  • Learning project Custom c# Cms [closed]

    I want to start new project customCms, cause I think it's a good starting point to implement my collected knowledge from c#, ddd, nhibernate, mvc3, js. It will be great if I hear some guidlines from expirienced users here. I will use C# ASP.NET MVC3 razor view engine. Also I was thinking of NHibernate ORM, I dont know if using Nhibernate will cause performanse down. Initially MSSQL 2008 will be used, but using ORM layer cause that I can switch to some other db with no pain. I was thinking to create News entity which will have properties Id Name Created Updated IntroText Content Title Author ListPhotos Every input will be validated with untroub. java script on the view, and it will be validated on db level as well. Maybe it is best approach to create some interface which will be implemented by my cmsClient entity like NewsEntity. In this interface will be included everything it should be requested from my client in future. At least some stuff which are not included in entity right now, consumed data by rss feed, wcf, etc. So basically everything you think its good idea from documentating project, to coding. Everyone is welcomed to brainstorm for custom cms.

  • How to delete multiple files with msbuild/web deployment project?

    I have an odd issue with how msbuild is behaving with a VS2008 Web Deployment Project and would like to know why it seems to randomly misbehave. I need to remove a number of files from a deployment folder that should only exist in my development environment. The files have been generated by the web application during dev/testing and are not included in my Visual Studio project/solution. Or it will remove only one or two of the three folders in the DeleteAfterBuild item group. There seems to be no consistency in when the build process decides to remove the files or not. When I've edited the configuration to include only Folder 1 (for example), it removes all the files correctly. Then adding Folder 2 and 3, it starts removing all the files as I want. Then, seeming at random times, I'll rebuild the project and it won't remove any of the files! I have tried moving these items to the ExcludeFromBuild item group (which is probably where it should be) but it gives me the same unpredictable result. Has anyone experienced this? Am I doing something wrong? Why does this happen?

We appreciate your eagerness and willingness to jump in and help us accomplish all of our goals here at acme (these roadrunner rockets don’t make themselves). You may have noticed that we have this thing called SharePoint lying around and we have invested some time in money to make it not a complete piece of garbage. So, I thought I’d give you some pointers to help make your stay here enjoyable and productive. Yeah… you don’t really know SharePoint Just because you had a mysite at your last organization or had a SharePoint 2003 team site does NOT mean you comprehend the vastness that is SharePoint. You don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes. You don’t know what should and should not be done. No, we CAN’T just query the SQL database directly. Yes, it really does take that long. No, we can’t do that out-of-the-box. Your experience doesn’t mean as much as you think it means… Yes, I’m aware that you co-created the internet with Al Gore and have been managing projects since I was blowing up GI Joe figures with firecrackers, however SharePoint is not like anything you have worked with before from a management perspective. Please don’t tell us the proper way to do our job or tell us how “you” would do it, and PLEASE don’t utter the words “I used to do some .NET development so let me know if you get stuck and need some guidance.” It MAY be possible for a incredible project manager to manage a SharePoint project and not understand the technology, but if you force your ideas on us or treat us like we don’t really know what we’re doing then you will prove yourself to NOT be one of those types. Oh no you didn’t… Please don’t tell us how you can bring in a group of guys of Kazakhstan to do the project for $20/hr. There are many companies out there who can do some really crappy SharePoint work and we don’t want to be stuck maintaining their junk. Do you know what it means to deploy a solution? Neither do some of those companies out there. However, there are are few AWESOME consulting firms out there but $150/hr is cheap for these guys. Believe me, it’s worth it though. You get what you pay for! Show us some respect We truly do appreciate and value your opinion and experience, but when we tell you something is different in SharePoint don’t be condescending and dismiss OUR experience and opinions. We have spent a lot of time and energy learning a very complicated technology that can open up a world of possibilities when used properly. We just want to make sure it is used properly. It’s not the same as .NET development. It’s not like a regular web application. There’s more going on behind the scenes than you can possibly fathom. Have a little faith in us please and listen when we talk. You may actually learn a thing or two. Take some time to learn the technology There is hope… you don’t have to be totally worthless. Take some time to learn SharePoint. Learn what it is and what it can do. Invest some time in learning our SharePoint environment. What’s our logical architecture and taxonomy?   • Is there any JavaScript Library to intelligently truncate strings?

    I need to truncate strings in a side menu to make the fit into a div without a linebreak. The divs have a fixed width. I'm looking for a library to do that for me. If a string is too long to fit into the div, it should be truncated like: <div>This string is too long</div> == <div>This string is...ong</div> As you can see, the string is not only truncated by an ellipsis but the last three letters are also visible. This is meant to increase readability. The truncation should not care about spaces. Does anyone know of a library that includes such functionality? We're mainly using jQuery throughout the project.   • C++ Project compiles as static lib, fails (linker error) as dynamic lib. why??

    Hi All. I've a VS2008 native C++ project, that I wish to compile as a DLL. It only references one external library (log4cplus.lib), and uses its functions. (also uses log4cplus's .h files , naturally). When I try to compile my project as a static library, it succeeeds. When I try as DLL, it fails : 1>MessageWriter.obj : error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol "public: static class log4cplus::Logger __cdecl log4cplus::Logger::getInstance(class std::basic_string<wchar_t,struct std::char_traits<wchar_t>,class std::allocator<wchar_t> > const &)" (?getInstance@Logger@log4cplus@@SA?AV12@ABV?$basic_string@_WU?$char_traits@_W@std@@V?$allocator@_W@2@@std@@@Z) referenced in function "class log4cplus::Logger __cdecl Log(void)" (?Log@@YA?AVLogger@log4cplus@@XZ) There are 4 more errors just like this related to functions within log4cplus.lib. It seems like something really stupid.. please help me :) Thanks!

  • Is it too early to start designing for Task Parallel Library?

    I have been following the development of the .NET Task Parallel Library (TPL) with great interest since Microsoft first announced it. There is no doubt in my mind that we will eventually take advantage of TPL. What I am questioning is whether it makes sense to start taking advantage of TPL when Visual Studio 2010 and .NET 4.0 are released, or whether it makes sense to wait a while longer. Why Start Now? The .NET 4.0 Task Parallel Library appears to be well designed and some relatively simple tests demonstrate that it works well on today's multi-core CPUs. I have been very interested in the potential advantages of using multiple lightweight threads to speed up our software since buying my first quad processor Dell Poweredge 6400 about seven years ago. Experiments at that time indicated that it was not worth the effort, which I attributed largely to the overhead of moving data between each CPU's cache (there was no shared cache back then) and RAM. Competitive advantage - some of our customers can never get enough performance and there is no doubt that we can build a faster product using TPL today. It sounds fun. Yes, I realize that some developers would rather poke themselves in the eye with a sharp stick, but we really enjoy maximizing performance. Why Wait? Are today's Intel Nehalem CPUs representative of where we are going as multi-core support matures? You can purchase a Nehalem CPU with 4 cores which share a single level 3 cache today, and most likely a 6 core CPU sharing a single level 3 cache by the time Visual Studio 2010 / .NET 4.0 are released. Obviously, the number of cores will go up over time, but what about the architecture? As the number of cores goes up, will they still share a cache? One issue with Nehalem is the fact that, even though there is a very fast interconnect between the cores, they have non-uniform memory access (NUMA) which can lead to lower performance and less predictable results. Will future multi-core architectures be able to do away with NUMA? Similarly, will the .NET Task Parallel Library change as it matures, requiring modifications to code to fully take advantage of it? Limitations Our core engine is 100% C# and has to run without full trust, so we are limited to using .NET APIs.

    I'm making a server library in which the packet association is done by enum. public enum ServerOperationCode : byte { LoginResponse = 0x00, SelectionResponse = 0x01, BlahBlahResponse = 0x02 } public enum ClientOperationCode : byte { LoginRequest = 0x00, SelectionRequest = 0x01, BlahBlahRequest = 0x02 } That works fine when you're working in your own project - you can compare which enum member is returned (i.e. if (packet.OperationCode == ClientOperationCode.LoginRequest)). However, since this is a class library, the user will have to define its own enum. Therefore, I have two enums to add as "abstract" - ServerOperationCode and ClientOperationCode. I know it's not possible to implement abstract enums in C#. How would I go doing this?

    Hello everyone :) I have an application that needs to operate on Windows 2000. I'd also like to use Visual Studio 2010 (mainly because of the change in the definition of the auto keyword). However, I'm in a bit of a bind because I need the app to be able to operate on older OS's, namely: Windows 2000 Windows XP RTM Windows XP SP1 Visual Studio 2010's runtime library depends on the EncodePointer / DecodePointer API which was introduced in Windows XP SP2. If using the alternate runtime library is possible, will this break code that relies on C++0x features added in VS2010, like std::regex?

  • Is there a way to trace through only project source in Delphi?

    I'm using Delphi 2010 and I'm wondering if there's a way to trace through code which is in the project without tracing through calls to included VCLs. For example - you put in a breakpoint and then use Shift+F7 to trace through line-by-line. Now you run into a call to some lengthy procedure in a VCL - in my case it's often a Measurement Studio or other component that draws the doodads for a bunch of I/O, OPC, or other bits. At any rate, what happens is that the debugger hops out of the active source file, opens the component source, and traces through that line by line. Often this is hundreds or thousands of lines of code I don't care about - I just want to have it execute and return to the next source line in MY project. Obviously you can do this by setting breakpoints around every instance of an external call, but often there are too many to make this practical - I'd be spending an hour setting a hundred breakpoints every time I wanted to step through a section of code. Is there a setting or a tool somewhere that can do this? Allow one to trace through code within the project while silently executing code which is external to the project?   • How can I tell NetBeans to use the latest available version of a JAR for a library?

    I have a Netbeans project with a library defined which includes several JARs. These JARs are versioned like lib\blah\com.blah.wibble.jar_0.6.1.201004161543 . These are nightly builds from another project so that version changes often. I know I can point NetBeans at the specific JARs with the version name, but this means that every time I get a new version I have to update the NetBeans library. I can also strip the version name from the JARs, but this makes it hard to track down bugs. "What version of the blah JARs?" is usually the second thing we ask when we find a bug. Is it possible to tell Netbeans to use included com.blah.wibble.jar_[??????] where ???? is some sort of automatic pointer to use the latest available version?

But when you're developing an app, it's up to you to implement these things based on low-level information about the number and locations of touches. It seems like this is a prime candidate for a library. You would register a delegate, set some parameters like multi-tap interval and swipe threshold, and get calls like swipeStarted/Ended, pinchStarted/Ended, multiTap, etc. Does such a library exist?

  • Pass Session data to a Class Library without using a bunch of constructors?

    Hi all, I've got my application here where literally every object has a lastUpdatedBy property. The information I put into here is the person's username, which is retrieved from the session("username") variable. How can I pass this data to my DAL in the class library? At first I was just passing in the value into each method, but this is ridiculous I thought, there should be no reason to do that every time a method is called. Then I thought well if I just put it in a constructor for each of the DAL related classes, that will make it even easier. However, even still on any given page, I've got a plethora of New() declarations, for which every single line I need to pass in the session username casted as a string. Is there an even still more efficient way of doing this so that I could only declare this in one place, and everything will know what it is and I can pass it to classes in a class library?

  • 2 Templates to one SharePoint Library, Default templates

    Ok, I'm not a script writer, otherwise I'd have this automated already. I need a quick assist in the most basic steps possible. I have a SharePoint form library using InfoPath based forms. I have a "Public" template for my customers which submits to a "Private" library, through very granulated permissions so they cannot view the library. The Private library has it's own template based on the original Public template. This way I can transition one form's information seamlessly to the new template. The new Private template would have all of the internal details that we do not want the customer to see, but also all information fron the customer-filled Public form. Is there any way to default all items opened from the Private library to use the Private Template, even though they were submitted form the Public template?

  • XBMC: Viewing podcasts in 'Library Mode'

    I'm having a great time getting to know XBMC, and so far for the most part I've been really happy with the results. I was chuffed when I followed the advice on this SU post and added TWiT as a video podcast with ease. However, when I go into Library Mode I can no longer access the podcasts I've added. I realise that one simple work-around is to come out of Library Mode to view podcasts, but in order to keep everything as simple (and appealing) to my wife as possible I'd rather remain in Library Mode so that on the rare occasion she wants to watch a DVD, she can do so without my help. Does anyone know a way to display podcasts in library mode? If this isn't possible is there a more elegant solution/work-around to going back and forth between library mode? Many thanks.

  • Windows Media Player library not appearing properly

    Windows Media Player library is listed 80% under unknown artist/unknown album despite each song containing the album and artist details. The library location is usually unresponsive and Media Player 12 is usually hanging for 3 or 4 minutes every 5 or 6 minutes. Library was fine two weeks ago then I had updated and it has not worked right since. My PC specifics: Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit 8 GB ram Processor 3.76 Ghz Primary drive 1Tb Secondary drive 500Gb Default save for the library is on the secondary drive. I've already tried media player settings troubleshooter and the library troubleshooter to no avail.
