  What is the best application workflow metaphor for Drupal module? In PHP frameworks we think MVC-style. How do we think inside Drupal? Asumming I am writing some user-oriented module like Shop, Catalog or Forum. As far as I understand there are no or few MVC based modules. Should I generally treat Drupal modules (as sub-application) as a number of screens connected via forms and hyperlinks or there is a better way. My question may be a little bit speculative, but I hope someone will share my intent to think models, not just "scripts".

• Ejb lookup failing on WAS7.0 with NamingException

  Hi, I have an application developed on RAD using WAS 6.0. I migrated the code to WID 7.0. After making some changes in the EJB modules(Had to remove the bnd.xmi file from each ejb module to deploy the application on Application Server)the application is running fine, but the EJB modules give the following error: NamingException has Occured While Getting Local Home javax.naming.NameNotFoundException:nullName ejb/com/igcc not found in context "local:". I am not able to figure out what changes do it need to make to run the application on WID. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Ayush

• SWIG generated code fails to run on PHP 5.3.2 undefined symbol: zend_error_noreturn

  I have a library that I have been using successfully with PHP 5.1.6 with the help of some wrapper code generated by SWIG (v1.3.40). I have just upgraded to PHP 5.3.2 and I am seeing the following error: PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library '/usr/lib/php/modules/myLib_php.so' - /usr/lib/php/modules/myLib_php.so: undefined symbol: zend_error_noreturn in Unknown on line 0 On investigation it appears that the wrapper code produced by SWIG (myLib_wrap.c) includes calls to the PHP function: zend_error_noreturn and that this function isn't available in PHP 5.3.2? Has anyone seen this issue before? Things seem to work if I manually update the generated code so that instead of calling zend_error_noreturn it just calls zend_error. Is this approach safe?

  I've heard that DotNetNuke takes a bit of a hit for Search Engine Optimization. I'm not criticizing the platform, by the way; I love DNN. This is just what I've heard. As I understand it, the impact is from repetitive content, table-based layouts, and lots of extra markup. I've got a friend who would like to start an e-commerce site using DNN and some modules from Snowcovered. I was just wondering whether DNN would be a good platform to choose. The idea is attractive because of the ease with which a DNN commerce system can be deployed. Search-engine friendly URLs aren't the problem - the modules do that, it's whether DNN as a whole would be a good platform for this. Thanks very much for any help or advice.

Every request (event for static content) goes through the same .Net pipeline without exception. All custom HttpModule can handle any request. But sometimes you don't want these modules to execute for certain content (most often static content). In this regard, MS Cassini doesn't read/obey <system.webServer> web.config settings like IIS7 does. I'm particularly interested in these settings. <system.webServer> ... <handlers /> <modules /> </syste.webServer> Does UltiDev's Cassini (a separate payable product upgraded from MS Cassini) web server read these settings and execute as the web.config tells it to?

• Why is Apache seg faulting?

  We have a production server that seems to Seg Fault a few times every day. The fault is picked up by Apache and logged in the error log - but there seems to be no traffic around the time. If it's a request generating the fault then it looks like it happens before any other logging is made so I can't see how it's happening so it's very hard to debug.   I have a complex build process to generate a couple of python extension modules (.pyd). I want to include these in my setup.py for use with distutils. The distutils page talks in length about how to add extension modules from source, but I'd want to simply package these precompiled .pyd. What is the best practice to do this? Eventually, I'd also like to freeze everything in an executable with py2exe. Will I be able to do this if I directly specify the .pyd?

• When using a package or framework is there a standard way to use version control?

  i.e. Do you put the whole package under VCS or just the components you are programming? Packages by there nature will get upgraded and that code will need to be added into the VCS, plus there is a lot of code that is static. Specifically I am going to be working on Joomla, adding and building modules, customising modules and the look and feel. Initially this will be just me but will expand to possibly two more developers as the project ramps up. My reaction would be just to VCS the lot, it means that i know it is all there and deployment via CI is easier(?). The alternative is to exclude the bulk of the code that is not being altered which could be error prone and laborious. As there is not a specific answer for this and i am looking for either experience or best practice advice i have marked it community wiki.

  Hello. I'm trying to compile some WiFi drivers I downloaded from SerialMonkey: http://rt2x00.serialmonkey.com/wiki/index.php/Downloads It's about a driver for a Ralink rt73 chipset. I already got the build-essentials and the kernel-headers on my computer.   Today I was bitten again by "Mutable default arguments" after many years. I usually don't use mutable default arguments unless needed but I think with time I forgot about that, and today in the application I added tocElements=[] in a pdf generation function's argument list and now 'Table of Content' gets longer and longer after each invocation of "generate pdf" :) My question is what other things should I add to my list of things to MUST avoid? Mutable default arguments Import modules always same way e.g. from y import x and import x are different things, they are treated as different modules. • Why can you reference an imported module using the importing module in python

  I am trying to understand why any import can be referenced using the importing module, e.g #module master.py import slave and then >>>import master >>>print master.slave gives <module 'slave' from 'C:\Documents and Settings....'> What is the purpose of the feature? I can see how it can be helpful in a package's __init__.py file, but nothing else. Is it a side effect of the fact that every import is added to the module's namespace and that the module's namespace is visible from the outside? If so, why didn't they make an exception with data imported from other modules (e.g don't show it as part of the module's namespace for other modules)?

  Imagine I have a .Net application that supports user extensions in the form of Python modules by embedding IronPython. Using Ironclad, I can allow users to make use of the NumPy and SciPy packages from within their modules. How good is the interop provided by Ironclad? My question is: can I use a NumPy array of type T provided by the user's module in the rest of my app that requires an IList<T>? Edit To clarify, IronPython exposes any Python enumerable of objects of type T as an IEnumerable<T> or an IList<T>. I'm not sure if NumPy arrays fit in this category. I would rather not have to call .tolist() on the NumPy array as the arrays may be quite large.

  Is there an open source project that can serve as a good example on how to use the maven site plugin to generate reports? I would prefer it to consist of many modules, possibly hierarchically structured use as many plugins as possible (surefire, jxr, pmd, findbugs, javadoc, checkstyle, you name it) the reports should be aggregated: if some tests fail you want to have a single page that shows all modules with failing tests, not only a gazillion individual pages to check include enterprisey stuff (WAR, EAR etc), but this is not so important. The idea is to have something where you can gather ideas on how it is done and what is possible.

This question is specifically related to the effect of interdependencies of modules and the method of constructing those modules (i.e. via MEF or through new) on MEF's ability to resolve relationships. I have been in the dark for so long that instead of reading about MEF and trying different suggestions, I've added MEF to my solution and am stepping into the code. The part where it looks like it fails is when it calls partManager.GetSavedImport(). For some reason, the importCache is null, which I don't understand. All the way up to this point, it's been looking at the part (Window1) and trying to resolve two imported interfaces -- IError and IPlugin. I would have expected it to enter code that looks at other assemblies in the same executable folder, and then check it for exports so that it knows how to resolve the imports...

  So I'm starting up in Zend framework and looking to implement a site-wide "User" session.... something I can easily access from ALL modules/controllers in the application. Also should I use Zend_Session_Namespace or Zend_Http_Cookie and also how do I encrypt and xss clean the cookie or is that did automagically?

• Database on the fly with scripting languages

  I have a set of .csv files that I want to process. It would be far easier to process it with SQL queries. I wonder if there is some way to load a .csv file and use SQL language to look into it with a scripting language like python or ruby. Loading it with something similar to ActiveRecord would be awesome. The problem is that I don't want to have to run a database somewhere prior to running my script. I souldn't have additionnal installations needed outside of the scripting language and some modules. My question is which language and what modules should I use for this task. I looked around and can't find anything that suits my need. Is it even possible?

More explaination here. @author Reveller <me@localhost> @version 19:05 28-12-2008 I now have this: $text = preg_replace('/\r?\n *\* */', ' ', $text); It does the job partially: it only removes the * in front of each line. Who could help me so it also strips /** and the final slash /? Any help would be greatly appreciated! P.S: If, for instance, the commentlbock would contain something like /** * @foo Here's some slashes for ya: / and \ */ Then obviously the slashes after @foo may not be stripped. The reult would have to be: @foo Here's some slashes for ya: / and \ I hope there's a regex guru out there :-)
