Hi, If we are looking for line intersections (horizontal and vertical lines only) and we have n lines with half of them vertical and no intersections then Sorting the list of line end points on y value will take N log N using mergesort Each insert delete and search of our data structue (assuming its a b-tree) will be < log n so the total search time will be N log N What am i missing here, if the time to sort using mergesort takes a time of N log N and insert and delete takes a time of < log n are we dropping the constant factor to give an overal time of N log N. If not then how comes < log n goes missing in total ONotation run time? Thanks

Hi, A mortgage page on our website is accesible by multiple links on one page. In order to determine which of the links on that same page has been clicked on, I use event tracking. All events for these links are being stored under the category: "mortgage" When I look at the total number of pageviews for this mortgage page and the total number of events for the event category "mortgage", the number of pageviews is 10%-20% higher. Hi Guys, Ok I have a data table containing duplicate Reciept numbers and a transaction value for each record, I need to simply list the total for each unique Reciept number, this is obviously a simple problem but I am missing something. hi all i wana ask a question about crystal reporting in vs 2008 lets say i have a report with these data customer_ID Customer_Name Order_amoont Order_Date (#group1 VipCustomer) 1 xyz 3 1/1/2010 2 abc 4 2/2/2010 5 sds 21 3/12/2009 (#Group2 NormalCustomer) 3 tyt 2 3/3/2010 4 ha 4 21/3/2009 i want only to display records where Order_Date year is in 2010 only so i went to the section expert and i added a condintion in suppress formula Year(order_Date)=2010 and i get the result ,,the question is how to count how many vip customers ordered in 2010 only and how many normal customer order in 2010 only ,,then i want the total number of both type of customers to be displayed to have a report like that:: customer_ID Customer_Name Order_amoont Order_Date (#group1 VipCustomer) 1 xyz 3 1/1/2010 2 abc 4 2/2/2010 subtotal 2 (#Group2 NormalCustomer) 3 tyt 2 3/3/2010 subtotal 1 total 3 thnx

I've created a class in PHP that allows you to create custom HTML markup. It basically works a bit like FB Markup or EE tags. It works off a tag prefix, so you can add tags like this. <ctag:pagination per_page="20" total="500" page="0" base="http://localhost/page?page={page}" mode="smart" adjecents="5" /> My question is: Is the markup above better than the markup below? I'm asking as I'm considering branching my code to rework the tag matching so you can just generate custom html elements. It would well for a drop in HTML5 replacement service. Match the User Agent for a none HTML5 browser and replace the HTML5 elements with your own replacements. <pagination per_page="20" total="500" page="0" base="http://localhost/page?page={page}" mode="smart" adjecents="5" /> PS, if anybody wants to look at the class I've put a download here.

Texture allocations being doubled in iPhone OpenGL ES

The below couple lines are called 15 times during initialization. The tx-size is reported at 512 everytime, so this will allocate a 1mb image in memory 15 times, for a total of 15mb used.. However, I noticed instruments is reporting a total of 31 allocations! (15*2)+1 glTexImage2D(GL_TEXTURE_2D, 0, GL_RGBA, tx-size, tx-size, 0, GL_RGBA, GL_UNSIGNED_BYTE, spriteData); free(spriteData); Likewise in another area of my program that allocates 6 256x256x4 (256kB) textures.. I see 13 sitting there. (6*2)+1 Anyone know what's going on here? It seems like awful memory management, and I really hope it's my fault. Just to let everyone know, I'm on the simulator.

Problem in loading cities using JSON

I am using Geonames for loading the cities using JSON. Geonames data i imported into my database. I am using MS SQL 2008 Server. I display a dropdown for country select. Once the user select the country. I am loading all the cities into the autocomplete textbox. I am facing a delay in the getJSON method. Also it seems like executing asynchronous. So before getting all the data my autocompelte is getting filled. Below is my complete script. I think i have some problem in the loop. Accessing HTML 5 Video Progress Event with jQuery

Materialized Query Table in SQL Server 2005

In DB2 there is a support for Materialized Query Table (MQT). Basicly you write a query and create a MQT. But the difference from View is that the query is pre-executed and resulting data is stored in MQT and there are some options when to refresh/syncronize the MQT with base tables. I want same functionality in SQL Server. Is there a way to achieve same result? I've tables with millions of rows, and I want to show summary (like total # of members, total expense and etc) in dashboard. So I don't want to count every time user gets to dashboard, instead I want to store them in table and I want that table to be refresh each night. Any kind of hints, answers,suggestions and ideas are welcome. Thanks.

How can I limit the cache used by copying so there is still memory available for other cache?

Basic situation: I am copying some NTFS disks in openSuSE. Each one is 2TB. When I do this, the system runs slow. My guesses: I believe it is likely due to caching. Linux decides to discard useful cache (eg. kde4 bloat, virtual machine disks, LibreOffice binaries, Thunderbird binaries, etc.) and instead fill all available memory (24 GB total) with stuff from the copying disks, which will be read only once, then written and never used again. So then any time I use these apps (or kde4), the disk needs to be read again, and reading the bloat off the disk again makes things freeze/hiccup. Due to the cache being gone and the fact that these bloated applications need lots of cache, this makes the system horribly slow. Since it is USB,the disk and disk controller are not the bottleneck, so using ionice does not make it faster. I believe it is the cache rather than just the motherboard going too slow, because if I stop everything copying, it still runs choppy for a while until it recaches everything. And if I restart the copying, it takes a minute before it is choppy again. But also, I can limit it to around 40 MB/s, and it runs faster again (not because it has the right things cached, but because the motherboard busses have lots of extra bandwidth for the system disks). I can fully accept a performance loss from my motherboard's IO capability being completely consumed (which is 100% used, meaning 0% wasted power which makes me happy), but I can't accept that this caching mechanism performs so terribly in this specific use case. # free total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 24731556 24531876 199680 0 8834056 12998916 -/+ buffers/cache: 2698904 22032652 Swap: 4194300 24764 4169536 I also tried the same thing on Ubuntu, which causes a total system hang instead. ;) And to clarify, I am not asking how to leave memory free for the "system", but for "cache". I know that cache memory is automatically given back to the system when needed, but my problem is that it is not reserved for caching of specific things. Question: Is there some way to tell these copy operations to limit memory usage so some important things remain cached, and therefore any slowdowns are a result of normal disk usage and not rereading the same commonly used files? For example, is there a setting of max memory per process/user/file system allowed to be used as cache/buffers?

In .NET C#4.0 with the .NET Chart control I have this code to generate a pie chart: chart.Series[0].ChartType = SeriesChartType.Pie; foreach (Order order in orderCollection) { // If I set point.LegendText = order.UserName, .Group will erase it chart.Series[0].Points.AddXY(order.UserName, order.Total); } chart.DataManipulator.Sort(PointSortOrder.Ascending, "X", "Series1"); chart.DataManipulator.Group("SUM", 1, IntervalType.Months, "Series1"); This works well, it generates a pie chart with the top 10 users showing their total order sum. I would like to set the DataPoints' legendtext to the order.UserName property. The problem is, DataManipulator.Group overwrites the series DataPoints. So if I set the legendtext in the foreach loop, they will be erased after the Group call. And after the Group call, I don't see a way to retrieve the correct UserName for a DataPoint to set the legendtext. What is the best approach for this situation?

Retrieve names by ratio of their occurance

Hello, I'm somewhat new to SQL queries, and I'm struggling with this particular problem. Let's say I have query that returns the following 3 records (kept to one column for simplicity): Tom Jack Tom And I want to have those results grouped by the name and also include the fraction (ratio) of the occurrence of that name out of the total records returned. So, the desired result would be (as two columns): Tom | 2/3 Jack | 1/3 How would I go about it? Determining the numerator is pretty easy (I can just use COUNT() and GROUP BY name), but I'm having trouble translating that into a ratio out of the total rows returned. Any help is much appreciated!

But i would like to have the same i as in my <a> tag. What is the best way to handle this? I could put i in the data() of the <a> tag for example but i am sure there is a easier way.

Measuring daemon CPU utilization over a portion of it's wall clock run time

I am dealing with a network-related daemon: it takes data in, processes it, and spits it out. I would like to increase the performance of this daemon by profiling it and reducing it's CPU utilization. I can do this easily on Linux with gprof. However, I would also like to use something like "time" to measure it's total CPU utilization over a period of time. If possible, I would like to time it over a period that is less than its total run time: thus, I would like to start the daemon, wait awhile, generate CPU statistics, stop generating them, then stop the daemon at some later time. The "time" command would work well for me, but it seems to require that I start and stop the daemon as a child of time. Is there a way to measure CPU utilization for only a portion of the daemon's wall clock time?

Hy at all, today is the day of ...question. I've a single table, with a relation master-detail like this: RecordID MasterID Field1 Field2 .... NrDetail 1 0 xxx yyyy 1 2 0 aaaa bbbb 2 3 1 hhhhh ssss 0 4 2 eee sssss 0 5 2 jjj hhhh 0 As you can see, NrDetail contain the total of "child record". Unfortunately, i've to create this field... and i would like to write it in my table. So my SQL question is: how to do this type of SQL to write the field NrDetail ? Something like: UPDATE table SET NrDetail= (SELECT COUNT(*) as Total FROM table WHERE MasterID= RecordID) But i think there's some mistake... Thank you in advance !
