• Is WPF the Future of Windows UI Development?

  We're debating whether our future Windows UI development should be WinForms or WPF. How have some of you made this decision? Most of our applications are LOB applications, and I'm not sure I see a clear and overwhelming benefit to WPF for these types of applications. However, my knowledge of WPF is limited. I'm also a little concerned that WPF will be in vogue for another couple years and then Microsoft will get tired of it and push something else on us. I guess one argument against this is the fact that Visual Studio 2010 is a WPF application. Thanks.

• Binding Many-to-Many Core Data relationships in UI

  Basically my setup is this. I have a many-to-many relationship in Core Data where a student entity can have multiple courses, and a course entity can have multiple students. My problem is in trying to figure out how to bind this relationship to the UI in Interface Builder. I want to be able to add courses to a course array controller, then have those courses displayed in a popup menu in a NSTableView in the Edit Student window where you can add courses to a student. • JQUERY POST, UI to show if status is "saving" "still saving" "error" "complete"

  I have a JQUERY Post call which is posting critical data to the server. Which if isn't posted successfully, results in a huge loss of important data. I have a save banner UI show on the page before the JQUERY POST, after the JQUERY Post it has the Save Banner go away. I'd like an inbetween state, where if the save is taking longer than 1 second, it updates from "saving" to "saving..." but if it doesn't save within 4 seconds, it says "error, try again" something like that. Any ideas on how to accomplish this with JQUERY?

• UI Controls layer on top of operating system.

  I'm kind of curious about what layer writing a UI platform to the level of Win32 or the X Windowing System would fall in the grand scheme of an operating system. What layers below do they primarily make use of, is it heavily based on direct communication with the graphics card driver (I can't imagine going though a rendering pipeline like OpenGL for this), or is there a graphical platform as part of the operating system which extracts this out a little more. I'm also interested in the creation of shells and the like, and I"m particularly curious as to how people go about creating alternative shells for windows, what do people look for when figuring out what methods to call or what to hook into, etc? I guess I'm fairly lost at these concepts and finding it difficult to find documentation on them. I was initially excited to have taken Operating Systems in college but it was all low level resource management stuff. Thanks all, Mason

  Hello folks, i have searched similar posts on google & stackoverflow to no use. Basically, what i have is a new aspx page. I have the following files referenced in the head section. jquery-ui-1.7.2.custom.css jquery-1.3.2.min.js jquery-ui-1.7.2.custom.min.js Theme:smoothness UI Version: 1.7.2 for jQuery 1.3.2 I have nothing else going on in the page but still get the error 'error updating JScript Intellisense. I am using VS2008 SP1. Any ideas? TIA ps: VS shows intellisense if i refer to 1.4.1.js & 1.4.1-vsdoc.js

Now i have a bean that has other beans as a property. eg User has property username, and usertype of type UserType; Whats the best strategy in java. Do i loop through the fields in an if else loop? eg. get field list if field is of type text use text field else if field is a number user a number field etc. is there a shortcut to the ifs?

• UI not redrawing after display powered off on Win 7

  Some portions of my application's interface are not getting refreshed after Windows 7 powers down the display. More specifically, I'm swapping out images, User Controls, and a button's content while the display is powered off and after it has been restarted, and this isn't being reflected in the UI until I minimize and restore the window or move it to one of the screen's edges. I've tried calling the Window's InvalidateVisual() method when the app was in a state where it needed to redraw, and that didn't solve the problem. I have only been able to reproduce this issue on Windows 7. Any ideas?

• Windows.Forms.Timer instance and UI threads

  I have a custom control whose primary purpose is to draw data. I want to add a ScheduleUpdate(int milliSeconds) method to the control which will force an update X milliseconds from now. Since this is all GUI land, I should be using a Windows.Forms.Timer, but how does this timer instance know which thread it belongs to? What if ScheduleUpdate() is called from a non-UI thread? Should I construct the timer in the Control constructor? Or perhaps the Load event? Or is it safe to postpone construction until I'm inside ScheduleUpdate()? I know there are some very similar questions about this already, but I don't have a Timer component on my control, I'm constructing it on a when-it's-needed basis.

• Binding jQuery UI plugin after $.load

  I have a function that attaches the jQuery UI DatePicker (with my options) to a passed jQuery object: function bindDatepicker($obj) { if ($obj == null) $obj = $("input.date"); $obj.datepicker( { appendText: '(yyyy-mm-dd)', autoSize: true, changeMonth: true, changeYear: true, closeText: 'Done', dateFormat: 'yy-mm-dd', defaultDate: '+1m', minDate: +1, numberOfMonths: 2 } ); } I call this at the beginning of every page to bind it to input elements: $(function() { bindDatepicker($("input.date")); }); This works fine. My problem comes in when I load form elements using $.load(). I cannot attach the DatePicker to any of the loaded elements. For example: $("#id").load("urlToLoad", function() { bindDatepicker($("input.date")); }); Loads the form elements into a div just fine, but will not attach the DatePicker. Why is this? • How do you handle large repeated UI elements with JQuery

  Howdy, Here's the situation: You have a very complex UI element that is repeated in a list. Each has a menu on it, buttons, it hides and shows subelements, buttons for switch it's state, etc, etc. The elements are populated via JSON so you have to construct the elements and the functionality of the fly. What's the best way to accomplish this with JQuery? Where would you save the reusable template for the DOM structure? How would you add the behavior on? $().live? .livequery? onclick? manual after every JSON get? I guess I just see a lot of people doing different things. What's your experience with performance?   I have a number of inputs on a page function as JQ UI datepicker. Each needs to have different settings. I want to minimize the JS so I save the settings as an attribute in each individual . <input type="text" class="datepicker" name="dateofbirth" id="dateofbirth" size="20" value="" options="{ dateFormat: 'yy-mm-dd',changeYear: true,yearRange: '1920:2010'}" /> <input type="text" class="datepicker" name="expdate" id="expdate" size="20" value="" options="{ yearRange: '2011:2020'}" /> I use js to load the options dynamically as the settings. $(document).ready(function(){ $(".datepicker").each(function(index){ $(this).datepicker("option" , $(this).attr('options')); }); }); datepicker is not functioning. If I empty the parentheses after $this.datepicker it works fine. I have also tried another way to assign settings. ("option",...) no dice.

• clicking anchor element within jquery tab loads new page *outside* tab

  Hello, I would like to be able to click on an achor element from a page inside a jQuery tab and have that new page load directly inside the original tab. I used sample code from the jQuery tutorial page but to no avail! When I click on the anchor tag, I get redirected to www.google.com but lose my tabs. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? would really appreciate it. • How can I separate Logic/UI in Android

  Hi, I want as my application to be structured in 2 parts: the logic code and the UI. I've tried to implement that using a controller class(here I keep the logic code) inside of each activity. The activity send messages to controller and receive the answer in two ways: the answer is returned immediately (if the action is not complex and it can be done in a verry short time) the activity set some listeners and the controller fire this listener when the action is complete. The problems appears when the controller have a lot of objects(each object should handle a set of actions and for each action I have to set & trigger a listener): it is hard to keep the code syncronized. I'm asking if you know a better way to implement this mechanism. Thank you.

  I am really hating SharePoint as there are hardly any good/concrete documentation. I developed custom List "MainCatalog" with few columns (not site columns). Create features and elements with MOSS feature builder at Site collection level so scope="site" installed via stsadm activated via UI "went to site collection website", Site Setting Site collection Feature (and saw my custom list "MainCatalog") and was able to activate. then went to "mySiteCollection Site Settings Site Libraries and Lists " My list is showing But it shows in the "mySiteCollection Create Custom Lists "MainCatalog" I guess it's showing there as a template... But my intention is to deploy this list from development to test environment. EXTREMELY STRESSED. I AM ON THIS FOR LAST 8 DAYS.....

• Problem with TabHost UI layout.

  What I'm trying to do is create a layout like this: +--------+ Search |EditText| [Button] +--------+ +---------+ |Tab 1 |---------+ | |Tab 2 | |---------+---------+-----------------+ | ListView Item 1 | | ListView Item 2 | | ListView Item 3 | | ListView Item 4 | | ListView Item 5 | | ListView Item 6 | | ListView Item 7 | | ListView Item 8 | | ListView Item 9 | | ListView Item 10 | +-------------------------------------+ So that's a TextView saying 'Search', an EditText and a button. Then below it the tabs - Tab 1 has a ListView, Tab 2 some other stuff. I can get a simple TabHost setup with two tabs working fine but can't get the above to lay out properly. Any hints ? I'd create the UI in the Eclipse designer and check the XML from that, except the designer doesn't work with TabHost. And DroidDraw doesn't seem to know about TabHost.

  in the cpanel that i'm developing thre is a department for articles in arabic and english so i used two tinymce editors one for arabic and the other is for english it works as expected, but the problem is that when i'm using chrome browser the page suddenly become not responding and never come back and i need to restart it but in IE8 no problem at all. i've found in chrome task manager that the memory usage of the page is over 22 kilobyte. i'm also using jquery ui. i've tried the following 1- using jquery plugin the compressor tiny_mce_gzip.php 2- decreasing the plugins of tinymce [ispell,layers,..] what is the solution or what is the cause

• How to learn a C++ GUI library effectively?

  Hello everyone, I have many options for GUI in my head while searching in stackoverflow, but these are what I chose among others: Qt gtkmm GTK+ I used GTK+ couple years ago, and I felt so painful when using C API without string object and containers. I prefer C++ style, I then switched to C++ gtkmm, but the documentation was bad at that time. I found no help when encountering an issue. Now I want to give a hard try for Qt4, but I really want to know how to learn a GUI librarie effectively. With core C++, I usually pick up a problem and try to solve it in different ways using that particular technique, functionality. On the other hand, after skimming through the documentation from Qt site, I don't think this way of studying is applicable, since the GUI classes and APIs are so much bigger. Plus I'm still in school, so I won't have much time to play all the day long with it. How do you guys learn GUI before? Can anyone share some experiences how they learn thing, that would be an invaluable input for me! Best regards, Chan Nguyen

As a result, I need to use the new .live() option. However, I want to bind an autocomplete...
