  • Seamless STP with Oracle SOA Suite

    - by user12339860
    STP stands for “Straight Through Processing”. Wikipedia describes STP as a solution that enables “the entire trade process for capital markets and payment transactions to be conducted electronically without the need for re-keying or manual intervention, subject to legal and regulatory restrictions” .I will deal with the later part of the definition i.e “payment transactions without manual intervention” in this article. The STP that I am writing about involves the interaction between a Bank and its’ corporate customers,to that extent this business case is also called “Corporate Payments”.Simply put a  Corporate Payment-STP solution needs to connect the payment transaction right from the Corporate ERP into the Bank’s Payment Hub. A SOA based STP solution can do a lot more than just process transaction. But before I get to the solution let me describe the perspectives of the two primary parties in this interaction. The Corporate customer and the Bank. Corporate's Interaction with Bank:  Typically it is the treasury department of an enterprise which interacts with the Bank on a daily basis. Here is how a day of interaction would look like from the treasury department of a corp. Corporate Cash Retrieve Beginning of day totals Monitor Cash Accounts Send or receive cash between accounts Supply chain payments Payment Settlements Calculate settlement positions Retrieve End of Day totals Assess Transaction Financial Impact Short Term Investment Desk Retrieve Current Account information Conduct Investment activities Bank’s Interaction with the Corporate :  From the Bank’s perspective, the interaction starts from the point of on boarding a corporate customer to billing the corporate for the value added services it provides. Once the corporate is on-boarded the daily interaction involves Handle the various formats of data arriving from customers Process Beginning of Day & End of Day reporting request from customers Meet compliance requirements Process Payments Transmit Payment Status Challenges with this Interaction :  Both the Bank & the Corporate face many challenges from these interactions. Some of the challenges include Keeping a consistent view of transaction data for various LOBs of the corporate & the Bank Corporate customers use different ERPs, hence the data formats are bound to be different Can the Bank’s IT systems convert the data formats that can be easily mapped to the corporate ERP How does the Bank manage the communication profiles of these customers?  Corporate customers are demanding near real time visibility on their corporate accounts Corporate customers can make better cash management decisions if they can analyse the impact. Can the Bank create opportunities to sell its products to the investment desks at corporate houses & manage their orders? How will the Bank bill the corporate customer for the value added services it provides. What does a SOA based Seamless STP solution bring to the table? Highlights of Oracle SOA based STP solution For the Corporate Customer: No Manual or Paper based banking transactions Secure Delivery of Payment data to the Bank from multiple ERPs without customization Single Portal for monitoring & administering payment transactions Rule based validation of payments Customer has data necessary for more effective handling of payment and cash management decisions  Business measurements track progress toward payment cost goals  For the Bank: Reduces time & complexity of transactions Simplifies the process of introducing new products to corporate customers Single Payment hub for all corporate ERP payments across multiple instruments New Revenue sources by delivering value added services to customers Leverages existing payment infrastructure Remove Inconsistent data formats and interchange between bank and corporate systems  Compliance and many other benefits

  • It’s official – Red Gate is a great place to work!

    - by red@work
    At a glittering award ceremony last week, we found out that we’re officially the 14th best small company to work for in the whole of the UK! This is no mean feat, considering that about 1,000 companies enter the Sunday Times Top 100 best companies awards each year. Most of these are in the small companies category too. It's the fourth year in a row for us to be in the Top 100 list and we're tickled pink because the results are based on employee opinion. We’re particularly proud to be the best small company in Cambridge (in the whole of East Anglia, in fact) and the best small software development company in the entire UK. So how does it all work? Well, 90% of us took the time to answer over 70 questions on categories such as management, benefits, wellbeing, leadership, giving something back and what we think of Red Gate as a whole. It makes you think about every part of day to day working life and how you feel about it. Do you slightly or strongly agree or disagree that your manager motivates your to do your best every day, or that you have confidence in Red Gate's leaders, or that you’re not spending too much time working? It's great to see that we had one of the best scores in the country for the question "Do you think your company takes advantage of you?" We got particularly high scores for management, wellbeing and for giving something back too. A few of us got dressed up and headed to London for the awards; very excited about where we’d place but slightly nervous about having to get up on stage. There was a last minute hic up with a bow tie but the Managing Editor of the Sunday Times kindly stepped in to offer his assistance just before we had our official photo taken. We were nominated for two Special Recognition Awards. Despite not bringing them home this year, we're very proud to be nominated as there are only three nominations in each category. First we were up for the Training and Development award. Best Companies loved that we get together at lunchtimes to teach each other photography, cookery and French, as well as our book clubs and techie talks. And of course they liked our opportunities to go on training courses and to jet off to international conferences. Our other nomination was for the Wellbeing award. Best Companies loved our free food (and let’s face it, so do we). Porridge or bacon sandwiches for breakfast, a three course hot dinner, and free fruit and cereals all day long. If all that has an affect on the waistline then there are plenty of sporty activities for us all to get involved in, such as yoga, running or squash. Or if that’s not your thing then a relaxing massage helps us all to unwind every few months or so. The awards were hosted by news presenter Kate Silverton. She gave us a special mention during the ceremony for having great customer engagement as well as employee engagement, after we told her about Rodney Landrum (a Friend of Red Gate) tattooing our logo on his arm. We showed off our customised dinner jacket (thanks to Dom from Usability) with a flashing Red Gate logo on the back and she seemed suitability impressed. Back in the office the next day, we popped open the champagne and raised a glass to our success. Neil, our joint CEO, talked about how pleased he was with the award because it's based on the opinions of the people that count – us. You can read more about the Sunday Times awards here. By the way, we're still growing and are still hiring. If you’d like to keep up with our latest vacancies then why not follow us on Twitter at twitter.com/redgatecareers. Right now we're busy hiring in development, test, sales, product management, web development, and project management. Here's a link to our current job opportunities page – we'd love to hear from great people who are looking for a great place to work! After all, we're only great because of the people who work here. • How to solve conflicts with another programmer..

    - by Tio
    Hi all.. I've read this question, but I think it doesn't really applies in my case.. I started to work at new company about 2 months ago with the position of senior web developer, there was already one programmer there, my position is above his, but I'm not his boss.. I don't tell him what to do.. Since the day I started to work at the company, I managed to implement a kind of a test server which he refuses to use, implemented a project management tool which he refuses to use also, and I'm in the process of implementing version control using mercurial ( damn Mercurial that's giving me so much headaches ), which he is going to use.. He is a nice guy, but just the other day we had a big discussion about "best practices", and "coding standards".. for me it's absolutely necessary to have this two things, at the place I'm currently working... otherwise it's not going to work.. This discussion, basically revolved about using short tags and the echo shortcut, and how we shouldn't use it anymore ( because I sometimes use short tags ).. this went for about 15 minutes, until I finally dropped the subject because I had work to do.. and of course he didn't budge even a millimeter, he's continuing to use short tags, and the echo shortcut and he not even cares about what I think.. When I mentioned that we are a team, he told me: "We are not a team, you work on your projects and I work on mine".. Let's just say, that the switch in my brain flipped, I raised my voice, and I told him that he was going nuts.. this was the most improper way to deal it with, I know, but there are certain things that can't be said to me.. The question here, is how do I deal with this? I want, to implement more changes on our work workflow, and I know that it's going to be a pain, with him always complaining and saying things like this.. Our boss is going to intervene in a few days, I talked to him today, the other programmer send him an email the day we had the discussion complaining.. Just to clarify, when I talk about implementing changes, I just don't appear at work, the next day with a sheet of paper, and say: "This is our we are doing things from now on! And there is no discussion.." For example, when I was trying to implement the project management tool, I took the time to talk to everybody that was going to be involved in it, to see what they think about it.. everyone was positive except him, he responded that it was just a mean to control us even more.. Does anyone has any idea on how to deal with this? PS: Truth to be told, I didn't start the best way with him, in the 4º day of work at the company, I found a really bad piece of code on our custom CMS, one of those things that I only expect to find in code produced by a programmer that has only 1 month of training in programming, and I talked to my boss about it... he showed up at the time I saw that piece of code, he saw my face and asked about it, so I told him.. I know the worst thing that can be said to a programmer is saying that their code is awful, but I've already learned that my code isn't the best of the world, so I take criticism in a completely different way now.. maybe he doesn't..

  • Big Data – ClustrixDB – Extreme Scale SQL Database with Real-time Analytics, Releases Software Download – NewSQL

    - by Pinal Dave
    There are so many things to learn and there is so little time we all have. As we have little time we need to be selective to learn whatever we learn. I believe I know quite a lot of things in SQL but I still do not know what is around SQL. I have started to learn about NewSQL recently. If you wonder what is NewSQL I encourage all of you to read my blog post about NewSQL over here Big Data – Buzz Words: What is NewSQL – Day 10 of 21. NewSQL databases are quickly becoming popular – providing the scale of NoSQL with the SQL features and transactions. As a part of learning NewSQL database, I have recently started to learn about ClustrixDB. ClustrixDB has been the most mature NewSQL database used by some of the largest internet sites in the world for over 3 years, with extensive SQL support. In addition to scale, it provides fast real-time analytics by bringing massively parallel processing (MPP), available only in warehousing databases, to the transactional database. The reason I am more intrigued about learning ClustrixDB is their recent announcement on Oct 31. ClustrixDB was only available as an appliance, but now with their software release on Oct 31, everyone can use it. It is now available as forever free for up to 12 cores with community support, and there is a 45 day trial for unlimited cluster sizes. With the forever free world, I am indeed interested in ClustrixDB now. I know that few of the leading eCommerce sites in the world uses them for their transactional database. Here are few of the details I have quickly noted for ClustrixDB. ClustrixDB allows user to: Scale by simply adding nodes to the cluster with a single command Run billions of transactions a day Run fast real-time analytics Achieve high-availability with recovery from node failure Manages itself Easily migrate from MySQL as it is nearly plug-and-play compatible, use MySQL drivers, tools and replication. While I was going through the documentation I realized that ClustrixDB also has extensive support for SQL features including complex queries involving joins on a dozen or more tables, aggregates, sorts, sub-queries. It also supports stored procedures, triggers, foreign keys, partitioned and temporary tables, and fully online schema changes. It is indeed a very matured product and SQL solution. Indeed Clusterix sound very promising solution, I decided to dig a bit deeper to understand who are current customers of the Clustrix as they exist in the industry for quite a few years. Their client list is indeed very interesting and here is my quick research about them. Twoo.com – Europe’s largest social discovery (dating) site runs 4.4 Billion Transactions a day with table sizes over a Terabyte, on a 168 core cluster. EngageBDR – Top 3 in the online advertising category uses ClustrixDB to serve 6.9 billion ads a day through real-time bidding platform. Their reports went from 4 hours to 15 seconds. NoMoreRack – Top 2 fastest growing e-commerce company in US used ClustrixDB for high availability and fast growth through Amazon cloud. MakeMyTrip – India’s leading travel site runs on ClustrixDB with two clusters running as multi-master in Chennai and Bangalore. Many enterprises such as AOL, CSC, Rakuten, Symantec use ClustrixDB when their applications need scale. I must accept that I am impressed with the information I have learned so far and now is the time to do some hand’s on experience with their product. I want to learn this technology so in future when it is about NewSQL, I know what I am talking about. Read more why Clustrix explains why you ClustrixDB might be the right database for you. Download ClustrixDB with me today and install it on your machine so in future when we discuss the technical aspects of it, we all are on the same page. The software can be downloaded here. • Good DBAs Do Baselines

    - by Louis Davidson
    One morning, you wake up and feel funny. You can’t quite put your finger on it, but something isn’t quite right. What now? Unless you happen to be a hypochondriac, you likely drag yourself out of bed, get on with the day and gather more “evidence”. You check your symptoms over the next few days; do you feel the same, better, worse? If better, then great, it was some temporal issue, perhaps caused by an allergic reaction to some suspiciously spicy chicken. If the same or worse then you go to the doctor for some health advice, but armed with some data to share, and having ruled out certain possible causes that are fixed with a bit of rest and perhaps an antacid. Whether you realize it or not, in comparing how you feel one day to the next, you have taken baseline measurements. In much the same way, a DBA uses baselines to gauge the gauge health of their database servers. Of course, while SQL Server is very willing to share data regarding its health and activities, it has almost no idea of the difference between good and bad. Over time, experienced DBAs develop “mental” baselines with which they can gauge the health of their servers almost as easily as their own body. They accumulate knowledge of the daily, natural state of each part of their database system, and so know instinctively when one of their databases “feels funny”. Equally, they know when an “issue” is just a passing tremor. They see their SQL Server with all of its four CPU cores running close 100% and don’t panic anymore. Why? It’s 5PM and every day the same thing occurs when the end-of-day reports, which are very CPU intensive, are running. Equally, they know when they need to respond in earnest when it is the first time they have heard about an issue, even if it has been happening every day. Nevertheless, no DBA can retain mental baselines for every characteristic of their systems, so we need to collect physical baselines too. In my experience, surprisingly few DBAs do this very well. Part of the problem is that SQL Server provides a lot of instrumentation. If you look, you will find an almost overwhelming amount of data regarding user activity on your SQL Server instances, and use and abuse of the available CPU, I/O and memory. It seems like a huge task even to work out which data you need to collect, let alone start collecting it on a regular basis, managing its storage over time, and performing detailed comparative analysis. However, without baselines, though, it is very difficult to pinpoint what ails a server, just by looking at a single snapshot of the data, or to spot retrospectively what caused the problem by examining aggregated data for the server, collected over many months. It isn’t as hard as you think to get started. You’ve probably already established some troubleshooting queries of the type SELECT Value FROM SomeSystemTableOrView. Capturing a set of baseline values for such a query can be as easy as changing it as follows: INSERT into BaseLine.SomeSystemTable (value, captureTime) SELECT Value, SYSDATETIME() FROM SomeSystemTableOrView; Of course, there are monitoring tools that will collect and manage this baseline data for you, automatically, and allow you to perform comparison of metrics over different periods. However, to get yourself started and to prove to yourself (or perhaps the person who writes the checks for tools) the value of baselines, stick something similar to the above query into an agent job, running every hour or so, and you are on your way with no excuses! Then, the next time you investigate a slow server, and see x open transactions, y users logged in, and z rows added per hour in the Orders table, compare to your baselines and see immediately what, if anything, has changed!

  • Do Great Work

    - by user12601034
    Have you ever attended an online conference and actually had a desire to attend all of it?? Yesterday I attended the first day of the Great Work MBA program, sponsored by Box of Crayons and hosted by Michael Bungay Stanier. The topic of the day was “Grounding Yourself,” and the day featured five speakers on five different topics. I have to admit that I started the first session with kind of a “blech” feeling that I didn’t really want to participate, but for some reason I did. So I listened to the first session, and I was hooked. I ended up listening to all of the sessions for the day, and I had some great take-aways from the sessions – my highlights included: The opposite of bravery isn’t fear, it’s settling. In essence, you need to be brave in order to accomplish anything. If you’re settling, you’re not being brave, and your accomplishments will likely be lackluster. Bravery requires confidence and permission. You need to work at being brave by taking small wins, build them up and then take slightly larger risks. Additionally, you need to “claim your own crown.” Nobody in the business world is going to give you permission to be a guru in X – you need to give yourself permission to become a guru in X and then do it. Fall in love with obstacles. Everyone is going to face some form of failure. One way to deal with this is to fall in love with solving the puzzle of obstacles. You don’t have to hit it if you can go around it. Understanding purpose brings out the best in people and the best people. As a leader, drawing in people who are passionate and highly motivated about their work creates velocity for your organization. Being clear about purpose is the first step in doing this. You must own your own story. Everything about you creates a “unique you” that is distinct from everyone else. As you take ownership of this, it becomes part of your strength. It’s not a strength if you’re running away from it. Focus on what’s right. Be aware of your tendency to interpret a situation a certain way and differentiate between helpful and unhelpful interpretations. Three questions for how to think differently: 1) Why? 2) Who says so? 3) What would happen if? These three questions can help you build alternative perspectives and options that can increase resiliency. Even though this first day was focused on “Grounding Yourself,” I see plenty of application in the corporate environment for both individuals and leaders of teams. To apply these highlights to my work environment, I would do the following: Understand the purpose – of my company, of my team and of my role on the team. If I know the purpose, I know what I need to bring to the table to make me, my team and my company successful. Declare your goals…your BEHAGS (big, hairy, audacious goals).Have the confidence to declare what you and/or your team is going to accomplish.Sure, you might have to re-state those goals down the line, but you can learn from that as well. Get creative about achieving your goals.Break down your obstacles by asking yourself what is going to stop you from achieving your goals and then, for each obstacles, ask those three questions:Why?Who says so? What would happen if? Focus on what’s right.I had a manager who asked us to write status reports every week.“Status” consisted of 1) What did I accomplish; 2) What will I accomplish next week; 3) How can my manager help me.The focus on our status report was always “what’s right”(“what’s wrong” was always a conversation at the point in time it was needed). I’m normally a skeptic of online webcasts/conferences, and I normally expect to take away maybe one or two ideas. I’m really glad, however, that I took the time to listen to all of the sessions yesterday, and I hope that my take-aways inspire you to think about how you might do great work also. --

  • DateTimePicker automatically move to next datepart

    - by Leon Tayson
    Currently, when using the datetimepicker, after you enter the month you have to either hit the right arrow or the "/" for it to move to the day. Is there a property that I can set or a way to know that the month is done and move to the day and move to the year after the user is done with the day? This is the same behavior with applications written in the old FoxPro/Clipper days.

  • How do I break down an NSTimeInterval into year, months, days, hours, minutes and seconds on iPhone?

    - by willc2
    I have a time interval that spans years and I want all the time components from year down to seconds. My first thought is to integer divide the time interval by seconds in a year, subtract that from a running total of seconds, divide that by seconds in a month, subtract that from the running total and so on. That just seems convoluted and I've read that whenever you are doing something that looks convoluted, there is probably a built-in method. Is there? I integrated Alex's 2nd method into my code. It's in a method called by a UIDatePicker in my interface. NSDate *now = [NSDate date]; NSDate *then = self.datePicker.date; NSTimeInterval howLong = [now timeIntervalSinceDate:then]; NSDate *date = [NSDate dateWithTimeIntervalSince1970:howLong]; NSString *dateStr = [date description]; const char *dateStrPtr = [dateStr UTF8String]; int year, month, day, hour, minute, sec; sscanf(dateStrPtr, "%d-%d-%d %d:%d:%d", &year, &month, &day, &hour, &minute, &sec); year -= 1970; NSLog(@"%d years\n%d months\n%d days\n%d hours\n%d minutes\n%d seconds", year, month, day, hour, minute, sec); When I set the date picker to a date 1 year and 1 day in the past, I get: 1 years 1 months 1 days 16 hours 0 minutes 20 seconds which is 1 month and 16 hours off. If I set the date picker to 1 day in the past, I am off by the same amount. Update: I have an app that calculates your age in years, given your birthday (set from a UIDatePicker), yet it was often off. This proves there was an inaccuracy, but I can't figure out where it comes from, can you?

  • problem with routing/T4MVC Url.Action()

    - by VinnyG
    I have these 2 routes : routes.MapRoute("Agenda", ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["eventsUrl"] + "/{year}/{month}", MVC.Events.Index(), new { year = DateTime.Now.Year, month = DateTime.Now.Month }); routes.MapRoute("AgendaDetail", ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["eventsUrl"] + "/{year}/{month}/{day}", MVC.Events.Detail(), new { year = DateTime.Now.Year, month = DateTime.Now.Month, day = DateTime.Now.Day }); And it work perfectly with this code : <a href="<%= Url.Action(MVC.Events.Detail(Model.EventsModel.PreviousDay.Year, Model.EventsModel.PreviousDay.Month, Model.EventsModel.PreviousDay.Day))%>" title="<%= Model.EventsModel.PreviousDay.ToShortDateString() %>"><img src="<%= Links.Content.images.contenu.calendrier.grand.mois_precedent_png %>" alt="événement précédent" /></a> Except when I get to do the link to today, if it's today, il will point only to www.myurl.com/agenda, witch is the value of CnfigurationManager.AppSettings["eventsUrl"]. What am I doing wrong? It's like if it's today, it point bak to the default agenda... Thanks for the help!

  • Casting interfaces in java

    - by owca
    I had two separate interfaces, one 'MultiLingual' for choosing language of text to return, and second 'Justification' to justify returned text. Now I need to join them, but I'm stuck at 'java.lang.ClassCastException' error. Class Book is not important here. Data.length and FormattedInt.width correspond to the width of the line. The code : public interface MultiLingual { static int ENG = 0; static int PL = 1; String get(int lang); int setLength(int length); } class Book implements MultiLingual { private String title; private String publisher; private String author; private int jezyk; public Book(String t, String a, String p, int y){ this(t, a, p, y, 1); } public Book(String t, String a, String p, int y, int lang){ title = t; author = a; publisher = p; jezyk = lang; } public String get(int lang){ jezyk = lang; return this.toString(); } public int setLength(int i){ return 0; } @Override public String toString(){ String dane; if (jezyk == ENG){ dane = "Author: "+this.author+"\n"+ "Title: "+this.title+"\n"+ "Publisher: "+this.publisher+"\n"; } else { dane = "Autor: "+this.author+"\n"+ "Tytul: "+this.title+"\n"+ "Wydawca: "+this.publisher+"\n"; } return dane; } } class Data implements MultiLingual { private int day; private int month; private int year; private int jezyk; private int length; public Data(int d, int m, int y){ this(d, m, y, 1); } public Data(int d, int m, int y, int lang){ day = d; month = m; year = y; jezyk = lang; } public String get(int lang){ jezyk = lang; return this.toString(); } public int setLength(int i){ length = i; return length; } @Override public String toString(){ String dane=""; String miesiac=""; String dzien=""; switch(month){ case 1: miesiac="January"; case 2: miesiac="February"; case 3: miesiac="March"; case 4: miesiac="April"; case 5: miesiac="May"; case 6: miesiac="June"; case 7: miesiac="July"; case 8: miesiac="August"; case 9: miesiac="September"; case 10: miesiac="October"; case 11: miesiac="November"; case 12: miesiac="December"; } if(day==1){ dzien="st"; } if(day==2 || day==22){ dzien="nd"; } if(day==3 || day==23){ dzien="rd"; } else{ dzien="th"; } if(jezyk==ENG){ dane =this.day+dzien+" of "+miesiac+" "+this.year; } else{ dane = this.day+"."+this.month+"."+this.year; } return dane; } } interface Justification { static int RIGHT=1; static int LEFT=2; static int CENTER=3; String justify(int just); } class FormattedInt implements Justification { private int liczba; private int width; private int wyrownanie; public FormattedInt(int s, int i){ liczba = s; width = i; wyrownanie = 2; } public String justify(int just){ wyrownanie = just; String wynik=""; String tekst = Integer.toString(liczba); int len = tekst.length(); int space_left=width - len; int space_right = space_left; int space_center_left = (width - len)/2; int space_center_right = width - len - space_center_left -1; String puste=""; if(wyrownanie == LEFT){ for(int i=0; i<space_right; i++){ puste = puste + " "; } wynik = tekst+puste; } else if(wyrownanie == RIGHT){ for(int i=0; i<space_left; i++){ puste = puste + " "; } wynik = puste+tekst; } else if(wyrownanie == CENTER){ for(int i=0; i<space_center_left; i++){ puste = puste + " "; } wynik = puste + tekst; puste = " "; for(int i=0; i< space_center_right; i++){ puste = puste + " "; } wynik = wynik + puste; } return wynik; } } And the test code that shows this casting "(Justification)gatecrasher[1]" which gives me errors : MultiLingual gatecrasher[]={ new Data(3,12,1998), new Data(10,6,1924,MultiLingual.ENG), new Book("Sekret","Rhonda Byrne", "Nowa proza",2007), new Book("Tuesdays with Morrie", "Mitch Albom", "Time Warner Books",2003, MultiLingual.ENG), }; gatecrasher[0].setLength(25); gatecrasher[1].setLength(25); Justification[] t={ new FormattedInt(345,25), (Justification)gatecrasher[1], (Justification)gatecrasher[0], new FormattedInt(-7,25) }; System.out.println(" 10 20 30"); System.out.println("123456789 123456789 123456789"); for(int i=0;i < t.length;i++) System.out.println(t[i].justify(Justification.RIGHT)+"<----\n");

  • Is it worth learning Perl 6?

    - by Andres
    I have the opportunity to take a two day class on Perl 6 with the Rakudo Compiler. I don't want to start a religious war, but is it worth my time? Is there any reason to believe that Perl 6 will be practical in the real world within the next two years? Does anyone currently use it effectively? Update I took the class and learned a lot. However, after day 1, my mind was a bit overwhelmed. There are tons of cool ideas in perl 6, and it will be neat to see what filters up to other languages. Overall the experience was a positive use of my time, though I wasn't able to absorb as much on the second day. If it were a three day class it would have been unproductive just because there is a limit to how much you can process in a short amount of time.

  • How to sort a boxplot by the median values in pandas

    - by Chris
    I've got a dataframe outcome2 that I generate a grouped boxplot with in the following manner: In [11]: outcome2.boxplot(column='Hospital 30-Day Death (Mortality) Rates from Heart Attack',by='State') plt.ylabel('30 Day Death Rate') plt.title('30 Day Death Rate by State') Out [11]: What I'd like to do is sort the plot by the median for each state, instead of alphabetically. Not sure how to go about doing so.

  • Unable to set variables in bash script in Mac OSX

    - by cohortq
    Hello! I am attempting to automate moving files from a folder to a new folder automatically every night using a bash script run from applescript on a schedule. I am attempting to write a bash script on Mac OSX, and it keeps failing. In short this is what I have (all my ECHOs are for error checking): !/bin/bash folder = "ABC" useracct = 'test' day = date "+%d" month = date "+%B" year = date "+%Y" folderToBeMoved = "/users/$useracct/Documents/Archive/Primetime.eyetv" newfoldername = "/Volumes/Media/Network/$folder/$month$day$year" ECHO "Network is $network" $network ECHO "day is $day" ECHO "Month is $month" ECHO "YEAR is $year" ECHO "source is $folderToBeMoved" ECHO "dest is $newfoldername" mkdir $newfoldername cp -R $folderToBeMoved $newfoldername if [-f $newfoldername/Primetime.eyetv]; then rm $folderToBeMoved; fi Now my first problem is that I cannot set variables at all. Even literal ones where I just make it equal some literal. All my echos come out blank. I cannot grab the day, month, or year either,it comes out blank as well. I get an error saying that -f is not found. I get an error saying there is an unexpected end of file. I made the file and did a chmod u+x scriptname.sh I'm not sure why nothing is working at all. I am very new to this bash script on OSX, and only have experience with windows vbscript. Any help would be great, thanks!

  • ASP MVC 2: Error with dropdownlist on POST

    - by wh0emPah
    Okay i'm new to asp mvc2 and i'm experiencing some problems with the htmlhelper called Html.dropdownlistfor(); I want to present the user a list of days in the week. And i want the selected item to be bound to my model. I have created this little class to generate a list of days + a short notation which i will use to store it in the database. public static class days { public static List<Day> getDayList() { List<Day> daylist = new List<Day>(); daylist.Add(new Day("Monday", "MO")); daylist.Add(new Day("Tuesday", "TU")); // I left the other days out return daylist; } public class Dag{ public string DayName{ get; set; } public string DayShortName { get; set; } public Dag(string name, string shortname) { this.DayName= name; this.DayShortName = shortname; } } } I really have now idea if this is the correct way to do it Then i putted this in my controller: SelectList _list = new SelectList(Days.getDayList(), "DayShortName", "DayName"); ViewData["days"] = _list; return View(""); I have this line in my model public string ChosenDay { get; set; } And this in my view to display the list: <div class="editor-field"> <%: Html.DropDownListFor(model => model.ChosenDay, ViewData["days"] as SelectList, "--choose Day--")%> </div> Now this all works perfect. On the first visit, But then when i'm doing a [HttpPost] Which looks like the following: [HttpPost] public ActionResult Registreer(EventRegistreerViewModel model) { // I removed some unrelated code here // The code below executes when modelstate.isvalid == false SelectList _list = new SelectList(Days.getDayList(), "DayShortName", "DayName"); ViewData["days"] = _list; return View(model); } Then i will have the following exception thrown: The ViewData item that has the key 'ChosenDay' is of type 'System.String' but must be of type 'IEnumerable<SelectListItem>'. This errors gets thrown at the line in my view where i display the dropdown list. I really have no idea how to solve this and tried several solutions i found online. but none of them really worked. Ty in advance!

  • Incorrect site usage report (Sharepoint)

    - by Jorge E. Barsoba
    Hi... After restarting "Windows Sharepoint Services Timer" service the "Site usage report" shows only one day of activity (matches the day we restarted the service) while every other day has zeros. I took a look in the "\LOGS\" dir and is plenty of logs with the visit's information for the whole year! Why the usage report ignores it? I think maybe the log file of the day showed could have some kind of mark that the other ones doesn't... Thanks, Jorge.

  • Using the groupby method in Python, example included

    - by randombits
    Trying to work with groupby so that I can group together files that were created on the same day. When I say same day in this case, I mean the dd part in mm/dd/yyyy. So if a file was created on March 1 and April 1, they should be grouped together because the "1" matches. Here's the code I have so far: #!/usr/bin/python import os import datetime from itertools import groupby def created_ymd(fn): ts = os.stat(fn).st_ctime dt = datetime.date.fromtimestamp(ts) return dt.year, dt.month, dt.day def get_files(): files = [] for f in os.listdir(os.getcwd()): if not os.path.isfile(f): continue y,m,d = created_ymd(f) files.append((f, d)) return files files = get_files() for key, group in groupby(files, lambda x: x[1]): for file in group: print "file: %s, date: %s" % (file[0], key) print " " The problem is, I get lots of files that get grouped together based on the day. But then I'll see multiple groups with the same day. Meaning I might have 4 files grouped that were created on the 17th. Later on I'll see another unique set of 2 files that are also created on the 17th. Where am I going wrong?

  • C# Finisar SQLite DateTime Comparison Problem

    - by Emanuel
    My "task" database table look like this: [title] [content] [start_date] [end_date] [...] [...] [01.06.2010 20:10:36] [06.06.2010 20:10:36] [...] [...] [05.06.2010 20:10:36] [06.06.2010 20:10:36] And I want to find only those records that meet the condition that a given day is between start_date and end_date. I've tried the following SQL expression: SELECT * FROM task WHERE strftime ('%d', start_date) <= @day AND @day <= strftime ('%d', end_date) Where @day is an SQLiteParameter (eq 5). But no result is returned. How can I solve this problem? Thanks.

  • RoR | how to get content_tags to nest?

  • Most efficient way to check if a date falls between two dates?

    - by Dave Jarvis
    Given: Start Month & Start Day End Month & End Day Any Year What SQL statement results in TRUE if a date lands between the Start and End days? 1st example: Start Date = 11-22 End Date = 01-17 Year = 2009 Specific Date = 2010-01-14 TRUE 2nd example: Start Date = 11-22 End Date = 11-16 Year = 2009 Specific Date = 2010-11-20 FALSE 3rd example: Start Date = 02-25 End Date = 03-19 Year = 2004 Specific Date = 2004-02-29 TRUE I was thinking of using the MySQL functions datediff and sign plus a CASE condition to determine whether the year wraps, but it seems rather expensive. Am looking for a simple, efficient calculation. Update The problem is the end date cannot simply use the year. The year must be increased if the end month/day combination happens before the start date. The start date is easy: Start Date = date( concat_ws( '-', year, Start Month, Start Day ) The end date is not so simple. Thank you!

  • In git, how can I get the diff between two dates?

    - by Weidenrinde
    Basically, I am looking for something equivalent to cvs diff -D"1 day ago" -D"2010-02-29 11:11". While collecting more and more information, I found a solution. I paste it here, for others that might have similar problems. Things I have tried: In git, how can I get the diff between all the commits that occured between two dates? was ansered here with: git whatchanged --since="1 day ago" -p But this gives a diff for each commit, even if there are multiple commits in one file. I know that "date" is a bit of a loose concept in git, I thought there must be some way to do this. git diff 'master@{1 day ago}..master gives some warning warning: Log for 'master' only goes back to Tue, 16 Mar 2010 14:17:32 +0100. and does not show old diffs. git format-patch --since=yesterday --stdout does not give anything. revs=$(git log --pretty="format:%H" --since="1 day ago");git diff $(echo "$revs"|tail -n1) $(echo "$revs"|head -n1) works somehow, but seems complicated and does not restrict to the current branch. git diff $(git rev-list -n1 --before="1 day ago" master) seems to work and a default way to do similar things, although more complicated than I thought. Funnily, git-cvsserver does not support "cvs diff -D" (without that it is documented somewhere).

  • JSF 2.0 Problem

    - by Sarang
    I am doing a project where I am using JSF 2.0 & Primefaces UI Components. There is a tab view component with tabs, "Day","Week" & "Month". In all tab, I have to display Bar Charts in each. For the same, I am fetching three list using the following three method. In the following code, UpdateCountHelper is fetching the data from database. So, UpdateCountHelper is taking some time for fetching data. This is code for fetching lists : public List<UpdateCount> getDayUpdateCounts() { if (projectFlag == true) { if (displayFlag == 1) { dayUpdateCounts = UpdateCountHelper.getProjectUpdates(1); } else { dayUpdateCounts = UpdateCountHelper.getProjectUpdates(name, 1); } } else { dayUpdateCounts = UpdateCountHelper.getResourceUpdates(userName, 1); } return dayUpdateCounts; } public List<UpdateCount> getMonthUpdateCounts() { if (projectFlag == true) { if (displayFlag == 1) { monthUpdateCounts = UpdateCountHelper.getProjectUpdates(30); } else { monthUpdateCounts = UpdateCountHelper.getProjectUpdates(name, 30); } } else { monthUpdateCounts = UpdateCountHelper.getResourceUpdates(userName, 30); } return monthUpdateCounts; } public List<UpdateCount> getWeekUpdateCounts() { if (projectFlag == true) { if (displayFlag == 1) { weekUpdateCounts = UpdateCountHelper.getProjectUpdates(7); } else { weekUpdateCounts = UpdateCountHelper.getProjectUpdates(name, 7); } } else { weekUpdateCounts = UpdateCountHelper.getResourceUpdates(userName, 7); } return weekUpdateCounts; } This is code for UI of Bar Chart : <p:panel id="Chart"> <p:tabView dynamic="false" cache="false"> <p:tab title="Day"> <p:panel id="chartDayPanel"> <center> <h:outputText id="projectWiseDayText" rendered="#{systemUtilizationServiceBean.projectFlag}" value="Project Wise Day Update"/> <p:columnChart id="projectWiseDayUpdateChart" rendered="#{systemUtilizationServiceBean.projectFlag}" value="#{systemUtilizationServiceBean.dayUpdateCounts}" var="dayWiseUpdate" xfield="#{dayWiseUpdate.name}" height="200px" width="640px"> <p:chartSeries label="Project Wise Current Day Update" value="#{dayWiseUpdate.noUpdates}"/> </p:columnChart> <h:outputText id="resourceWiseDayText" rendered="#{systemUtilizationServiceBean.resourceFlag}" value="Resource Wise Day Update"/> <p:columnChart id="resourceWiseDayUpdateChart" rendered="#{systemUtilizationServiceBean.resourceFlag}" value="#{systemUtilizationServiceBean.dayUpdateCounts}" var="dayWiseResourceUpdate" xfield="#{dayWiseResourceUpdate.name}" height="200px" width="640px"> <p:chartSeries label="Resource Wise Current Day Update" value="#{dayWiseResourceUpdate.noUpdates}"/> </p:columnChart> </center> </p:panel> </p:tab> <p:tab title="Week"> <p:panel id="chartWeekPanel"> <center> <h:outputText id="projectWiseWeekText" rendered="#{systemUtilizationServiceBean.projectFlag}" value="Project Wise Week Update"/> <p:columnChart id="projectWiseWeekUpdateChart" rendered="#{systemUtilizationServiceBean.projectFlag}" value="#{systemUtilizationServiceBean.weekUpdateCounts}" var="weekWiseUpdate" xfield="#{weekWiseUpdate.name}" height="200px" width="640px"> <p:chartSeries label="Project Wise Current Week Update" value="#{weekWiseUpdate.noUpdates}"/> </p:columnChart> <h:outputText id="resourceWiseWeekText" rendered="#{systemUtilizationServiceBean.resourceFlag}" value="Resource Wise Week Update"/> <p:columnChart id="resourceWiseWeekUpdateChart" rendered="#{systemUtilizationServiceBean.resourceFlag}" value="#{systemUtilizationServiceBean.weekUpdateCounts}" var="weekWiseResourceUpdate" xfield="#{weekWiseResourceUpdate.name}" height="200px" width="640px"> <p:chartSeries label="Resource Wise Current Week Update" value="#{weekWiseResourceUpdate.noUpdates}"/> </p:columnChart> </center> </p:panel> </p:tab> <p:tab title="Month"> <p:panel id="chartMonthPanel"> <center> <h:outputText id="projectWiseMonthText" rendered="#{systemUtilizationServiceBean.projectFlag}" value="Project Wise Month Update"/> <p:columnChart id="projectWiseMonthUpdateChart" rendered="#{systemUtilizationServiceBean.projectFlag}" value="#{systemUtilizationServiceBean.monthUpdateCounts}" var="monthWiseUpdate" xfield="#{monthWiseUpdate.name}" height="200px" width="640px"> <p:chartSeries label="Project Wise Current Month Update" value="#{monthWiseUpdate.noUpdates}"/> </p:columnChart> <h:outputText id="resourceWiseMonthText" rendered="#{systemUtilizationServiceBean.resourceFlag}" value="Resource Wise Month Update"/> <p:columnChart id="resourceWiseMonthUpdateChart" rendered="#{systemUtilizationServiceBean.resourceFlag}" value="#{systemUtilizationServiceBean.monthUpdateCounts}" var="monthWiseResourceUpdate" xfield="#{monthWiseResourceUpdate.name}" height="200px" width="640px"> <p:chartSeries label="Resource Wise Current Month Update" value="#{monthWiseResourceUpdate.noUpdates}"/> </p:columnChart> </center> </p:panel> </p:tab> </p:tabView> </p:panel> Now, I have to display same data in other tabview with same tabs as mentioned above & only thing is now I have to display in Pie Chart. Now in pie chart, I am using the same lists. So, it will again fetch the data from database & waste time. To solve that problem I have created other three lists & have given only reference of those previous lists. So, now no database fetching occur. The Code for applying the reference is : public List<UpdateCount> getPieDayUpdateCounts() { pieDayUpdateCounts = dayUpdateCounts; return pieDayUpdateCounts; } public List<UpdateCount> getPieMonthUpdateCounts() { pieMonthUpdateCounts = monthUpdateCounts; return pieMonthUpdateCounts; } public List<UpdateCount> getPieWeekUpdateCounts() { pieWeekUpdateCounts = weekUpdateCounts; return pieWeekUpdateCounts; } But, over here the problem occurring is that only chart of which the tab is enable is displayed but the other remaining 2 tabs are not showing any chart. The code for UI is : <p:tabView dynamic="false" cache="false"> <p:tab title="Day"> <center> <p:panel id="pieChartDayPanel"> <h:outputText id="projectWiseDayPieChartText" rendered="#{systemUtilizationServiceBean.projectFlag}" value="Project Wise Day Update"/> <p:pieChart id="projectWiseDayUpdatePieChart" rendered="#{systemUtilizationServiceBean.projectFlag}" value="#{systemUtilizationServiceBean.dayUpdateCounts}" var="dayWisePieUpdate" categoryField="#{dayWisePieUpdate.name}" dataField="#{dayWisePieUpdate.noUpdates}" height="200" width="200"/> <h:outputText id="resourceWiseDayPieChartText" rendered="#{systemUtilizationServiceBean.resourceFlag}" value="Resource Wise Day Update"/> <p:pieChart id="resourceWiseDayUpdatePieChart" rendered="#{systemUtilizationServiceBean.resourceFlag}" value="#{systemUtilizationServiceBean.dayUpdateCounts}" var="dayWiseResourcePieUpdate" categoryField="#{dayWiseResourcePieUpdate.name}" dataField="#{dayWiseResourcePieUpdate.noUpdates}" height="200" width="200"/> </p:panel> </center> </p:tab> <p:tab title="Week"> <center> <p:panel id="pieChartWeekPanel"> <h:outputText id="projectWiseWeekPieChartText" rendered="#{systemUtilizationServiceBean.projectFlag}" value="Project Wise Week Update"/> <p:pieChart id="projectWiseWeekUpdatePieChart" rendered="#{systemUtilizationServiceBean.projectFlag}" value="#{systemUtilizationServiceBean.weekUpdateCounts}" var="weekWisePieUpdate" categoryField="#{weekWisePieUpdate.name}" dataField="#{weekWisePieUpdate.noUpdates}" height="200" width="200"/> <h:outputText id="resourceWiseWeekPieChartText" rendered="#{systemUtilizationServiceBean.resourceFlag}" value="Resource Wise Week Update"/> <p:pieChart id="resourceWiseWeekUpdatePieChart" rendered="#{systemUtilizationServiceBean.resourceFlag}" value="#{systemUtilizationServiceBean.weekUpdateCounts}" var="weekWiseResourcePieUpdate" categoryField="#{weekWiseResourcePieUpdate.name}" dataField="#{weekWiseResourcePieUpdate.noUpdates}" height="200" width="200"/> </p:panel> </center> </p:tab> <p:tab title="Month"> <center> <p:panel id="pieChartMonthPanel"> <h:outputText id="projectWiseMonthPieChartText" rendered="#{systemUtilizationServiceBean.projectFlag}" value="Project Wise Month Update"/> <p:pieChart id="projectWiseMonthUpdatePieChart" rendered="#{systemUtilizationServiceBean.projectFlag}" value="#{systemUtilizationServiceBean.monthUpdateCounts}" var="monthWisePieUpdate" categoryField="#{monthWisePieUpdate.name}" dataField="#{monthWisePieUpdate.noUpdates}" height="200" width="200"/> <h:outputText id="resourceWiseMonthPieChartText" rendered="#{systemUtilizationServiceBean.resourceFlag}" value="Resource Wise Month Update"/> <p:pieChart id="resourceWiseMonthUpdatePieChart" rendered="#{systemUtilizationServiceBean.resourceFlag}" value="#{systemUtilizationServiceBean.monthUpdateCounts}" var="monthWiseResourcePieUpdate" categoryField="#{monthWiseResourcePieUpdate.name}" dataField="#{monthWiseResourcePieUpdate.noUpdates}" height="200" width="200"/> </p:panel> </center> </p:tab> </p:tabView> What should be the reason behind this ?
