  • update manager has killed wifi after i finally got it working [closed]

    HI i had just got my wifi to work properly in 12.04 and I got a pop up from update manager saying there was 100's of updates I needed to install so i installed them it then said I needed to reboot which I did but now my wifi isn't working I go add a new connection and I have no wifi option just Ethernet also the pci card is showing no signs of life (the green light is not light) but when i go in to terminal and type lspci it is showing my wifi card in the list whats gone wrong and how do i fix it???

    I'm trying to install software by using apt-get and ubuntu software center UI, when I try the ubuntu software center it gets stuck saying installing and installs nothing and when I try the apt-get it gets stuck at the point "0% [Waiting for headers]" I tried modifying sources.list file.     I'm now using Ubuntu 12.04. In earlier versions you could associate a filetype with a specific command (e.g. self-compiled binary) by selecting "Open with" in the file's properties and select the command by providing the file path manually if it wasn't already in the list of applications. Is this possibility gone? The only way I found now is to create .desktop files and edit the mimetypes via an text editor.

    I used to have button in my file viewer window that allowed me to easily change from list to compact to icons, which was really convenient. Now, in 12.04 (running gnome fallback mode to mostly keep my original layout) I don't have that anymore, I have to go to 'view' and then at the bottom of the menu choose the way I want to display the files. Any way to get this switcher back? In its place I just have a search function and buttons that I don't need and never use.

    When you launch an instance and explicitly name it using: juju deploy lamp website1 Is there a way on the newly created instance to get the data that tells the machine that its: called website1 or even better: a unit number such as website1/0, website1/1 etc etc The reason for doing this is that in my charm I wish to set the hostname to this value. I did wonder if it was set via ec2metadata but it doesn't seem to list this information.

    I am trying to use SUN Spots with Ubuntu, but for some reason the SUN Spot Manager app is not seeing connected spot on USB port. Possibility that cdc_acm driver is not installed has been mentioned elsewhere, but I am complete beginner when it comes to Ubuntu, so I don't know where to find it or how to install it. Any input on this matter would be more than welcome. Addition: ls /dev/tty* returned the list that contains /dev/ttyACM0, but SUN spot is still not recognizing it.
