  • Function currying in Javascript

    - by kerry
Do you catch yourself doing something like this often? 1: Ajax.request('/my/url', {'myParam': paramVal}, function() { myCallback(paramVal); }); Creating a function which calls another function asynchronously is a bad idea because the value of paramVal may change before it is called.  Enter the curry function: 1: Function.prototype.curry = function(scope) { 2: var args = []; 3: for (var i=1, len = arguments.length; i < len; ++i) { 4: args.push(arguments[i]); 5: } 6: var m = this; 7: return function() { 8: m.apply(scope, args); 9: }; 10: } This function creates a wrapper around the function and ‘locks in’ the method parameters.  The first parameter is the scope of the function call (usually this or window).  Any remaining parameters will be passed to the method call.  Using the curry method the above call changes to: 1: Ajax.request('/my/url', {'myParam': paramVal}, myCallback.curry(window, paramVal)); Remember when passing objects to the curry method that the objects members may still change.

  • Multicast delegates in c#

    - by Jalpesh P. Vadgama
In yesterday’s post We learn about Delegates and how we can use delegates in C#. In today’s blog post we are going to learn about Multicast delegates. What is Multicast Delegates? As we all know we can assign methods as object to delegate and later on we can call that method with the help delegates. We can also assign more then methods to delegates that is called Multicast delegates. It’s provide functionality to execute more then method at a time. It’s maintain delegates as invocation list (linked list). Let’s understands that via a example. We are going to use yesterday’s example and then we will extend that code multicast delegates. Following code I have written to demonstrate the multicast delegates. using System; namespace Delegates { class Program { public delegate void CalculateNumber(int a, int b); static void Main(string[] args) { int a = 5; int b = 5; CalculateNumber addNumber = new CalculateNumber(AddNumber); CalculateNumber multiplyNumber = new CalculateNumber(MultiplyNumber); CalculateNumber multiCast = (CalculateNumber)Delegate.Combine (addNumber, multiplyNumber); multiCast.Invoke(a,b); Console.ReadLine(); } public static void AddNumber(int a, int b) { Console.WriteLine("Adding Number"); Console.WriteLine(5 + 6); } public static void MultiplyNumber(int a, int b) { Console.WriteLine("Multiply Number"); Console.WriteLine(5 + 6); } } } As you can see in the above code I have created two method one for adding two numbers and another for multiply two number. After that I have created two same CalculateNumber delegates addNumber and multiplyNumber then I have create a multicast delegates multiCast with combining two delegates. Now I want to call this both method so I have used Invoke method to call this delegates. As now our code is let’s run the application. Following is a output as expected. As you can we can execute multiple methods with multicast delegates the only thing you need to take care is that we need to type for both delegates. That’s it. Hope you like it. Stay tuned for more.. Till then happy programming.

  • Converting a generic list into JSON string and then handling it in java script

    - by Jalpesh P. Vadgama
We all know that JSON (JavaScript Object Notification) is very useful in case of manipulating string on client side with java script and its performance is very good over browsers so let’s create a simple example where convert a Generic List then we will convert this list into JSON string and then we will call this web service from java script and will handle in java script. To do this we need a info class(Type) and for that class we are going to create generic list. Here is code for that I have created simple class with two properties UserId and UserName public class UserInfo { public int UserId { get; set; } public string UserName { get; set; } } Now Let’s create a web service and web method will create a class and then we will convert this with in JSON string with JavaScriptSerializer class. Here is web service class. using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Web; using System.Web.Services; namespace Experiment.WebService { /// <summary> /// Summary description for WsApplicationUser /// </summary> [WebService(Namespace = "http://tempuri.org/")] [WebServiceBinding(ConformsTo = WsiProfiles.BasicProfile1_1)] [System.ComponentModel.ToolboxItem(false)] // To allow this Web Service to be called from script, using ASP.NET AJAX, uncomment the following line. [System.Web.Script.Services.ScriptService] public class WsApplicationUser : System.Web.Services.WebService { [WebMethod] public string GetUserList() { List<UserInfo> userList = new List<UserInfo>(); for (int i = 1; i <= 5; i++) { UserInfo userInfo = new UserInfo(); userInfo.UserId = i; userInfo.UserName = string.Format("{0}{1}", "J", i.ToString()); userList.Add(userInfo); } System.Web.Script.Serialization.JavaScriptSerializer jSearializer = new System.Web.Script.Serialization.JavaScriptSerializer(); return jSearializer.Serialize(userList); } } } Note: Here you must have this attribute here in web service class ‘[System.Web.Script.Services.ScriptService]’ as this attribute will enable web service to call from client side. Now we have created a web service class let’s create a java script function ‘GetUserList’ which will call web service from JavaScript like following function GetUserList() { Experiment.WebService.WsApplicationUser.GetUserList(ReuqestCompleteCallback, RequestFailedCallback); } After as you can see we have inserted two call back function ReuqestCompleteCallback and RequestFailedCallback which handle errors and result from web service. ReuqestCompleteCallback will handle result of web service and if and error comes then RequestFailedCallback will print the error. Following is code for both function. function ReuqestCompleteCallback(result) { result = eval(result); var divResult = document.getElementById("divUserList"); CreateUserListTable(result); } function RequestFailedCallback(error) { var stackTrace = error.get_stackTrace(); var message = error.get_message(); var statusCode = error.get_statusCode(); var exceptionType = error.get_exceptionType(); var timedout = error.get_timedOut(); // Display the error. var divResult = document.getElementById("divUserList"); divResult.innerHTML = "Stack Trace: " + stackTrace + "<br/>" + "Service Error: " + message + "<br/>" + "Status Code: " + statusCode + "<br/>" + "Exception Type: " + exceptionType + "<br/>" + "Timedout: " + timedout; } Here in above there is a function called you can see that we have use ‘eval’ function which parse string in enumerable form. Then we are calling a function call ‘CreateUserListTable’ which will create a table string and paste string in the a div. Here is code for that function. function CreateUserListTable(userList) { var tablestring = '<table ><tr><td>UsreID</td><td>UserName</td></tr>'; for (var i = 0, len = userList.length; i < len; ++i) { tablestring=tablestring + "<tr>"; tablestring=tablestring + "<td>" + userList[i].UserId + "</td>"; tablestring=tablestring + "<td>" + userList[i].UserName + "</td>"; tablestring=tablestring + "</tr>"; } tablestring = tablestring + "</table>"; var divResult = document.getElementById("divUserList"); divResult.innerHTML = tablestring; } Now let’s create div which will have all html that is generated from this function. Here is code of my web page. We also need to add a script reference to enable web service from client side. Here is all HTML code we have. <form id="form1" runat="server"> <asp:ScriptManager ID="myScirptManger" runat="Server"> <Services> <asp:ServiceReference Path="~/WebService/WsApplicationUser.asmx" /> </Services> </asp:ScriptManager> <div id="divUserList"> </div> </form> Now as we have not defined where we are going to call ‘GetUserList’ function so let’s call this function on windows onload event of javascript like following. window.onload=GetUserList(); That’s it. Now let’s run it on browser to see whether it’s work or not and here is the output in browser as expected. That’s it. This was very basic example but you can crate your own JavaScript enabled grid from this and you can see possibilities are unlimited here. Stay tuned for more.. Happy programming.. • Unity DontDestroyOnLoad causing scenes to stay open

    - by jkrebsbach
Originally posted on: http://geekswithblogs.net/jkrebsbach/archive/2014/08/11/unity-dontdestroyonload-causing-scenes-to-stay-open.aspxMy Unity project has a class (ClientSettings) where most of the game state & management properties are stored.  Among these are some utility functions that derive from MonoBehavior.  However, between every scene this object was getting recreated and I was losing all sorts of useful data.  I learned that with DontDestroyOnLoad, I can persist this entity between scenes.  Super.Persisting information between scenesThe problem with adding DontDestroyOnLoad to my "ClientSettings" was suddenly my previous scene would stay alive, and continue to execute its update routines.  An important part of the documentation helps shed light to my issues:"If the object is a component or game object then its entire transform hierarchy will not be destroyed either."My ClientSettings script was attached to the main camera on my first scene.  Because of this, the Main Camera was part of the hierarchy of the component, and therefore was also not able to destroy when switching scenes.  Now the first scene's main camera Update routine continues to execute after the second scene is running - causing me to have some very nasty bugs.Suddenly I wasn't sure how I should be creating a persistent entity - so I created a new sandbox project and tested different approaches until I found one that works:In the main scene: Create an empty Game Object:  "GameManager" - and attach the ClientSettings script to this game object.  Set any properties to the clientsettings script as appropriate.Create a prefab, using the GameManager.Remove the Game Object from the main scene. In the Main Camera, I created a script:  Main Script.  This is my primary script for the main scene.<code> public GameObject[] prefabs; private ClientSettings _clientSettings; // Use this for initialization void Start () { GameObject res = (GameObject)Instantiate(prefabs[0]); }</code>Now go back out to scene view, and add the new GameManager prefab to the prefabs collection of MainScript. When the main scene loads, the GameManager is set up, but is not part of the main scene's hierarchy, so the two are no longer tied up together. Now in our second scene, we have a script - SecondScript - and we can get a reference to the ClientSettings we created in the previous scene like so:<code>private ConnectionSettings _clientSettings; // Use this for initialization void Start () { _clientSettings = FindObjectOfType<ConnectionSettings> (); }</code>And the scenes can start and finish without creating strange long-running scene side effects.
