• how to don't store a repeated field of a Symfony form?

  Hello everybody, I am working with Symfony 1.4 and Doctrine. I have a model A with a email field. The form of A, display an input in which the user should insert the email correctly. But as everybody know sometiemes they don't do it. To fix this i have insert an extra field in the model (and in the form), called *repeat_email* to prevent the misspellings. Then, in the validation process, after validates all the fields, i use a global validator to compare the data of the two fields. This works, but i don't want to have the email stored two times in the database (i don't want the *repeat_email*). Is there any mechanism to use it in the validation process, but not to store it in the database? Thanks,

• Find the period of over speed ?

  Just something interesting come in my mind. Assume that we have a table (in SQL Server) like this: Location Velocity Time What is the best way to determine over speed periods (speed barrier is defined) ? My first idea was loading the table into an array, and then iterate over array to find these periods: (Pseudo C# code) bool isOverSpeed = false; for (int i =0;i<arr.Length;i++) { if (!isOverSpeed) if (arr[i].Velocity > speedBarrier) { #insert the first record into another array. isOverSpeed = true; } if(isOverSpeed) if (arr[i].Velocity < speedBarrier) { #insert the record into that array isOverSpeed = false; } } It works, but somewhat "not very effectively". Is there a "smarter" way, such as a T-SQL query or another algorithm to do this?

• copy an identity column into another table

  I have 2 tables that are related,both have identity columns for primary keys and i am using a vb form to insert data into them,My problem is that i cannot get the child table to get the primary key of the parent table and use this as its foreign key in my database. the data is inserted fine though no foreign key constraint is made.I am wondering if a trigger will do it and if so how. All my inserting of data is done in vb. The user wont insert any keys. all these are identity columns that are auto generated. If a trigger is my way out please illustrate with an example. If there is another way i can do this in VB itself then please advise and an example will be greatly appreciated Thanks in advance

  I have a question about inserting values into an input field from my MYSQL DB. First I have a form to save data from an inputfield to the database. An extra script filters diacrits Á=&Aacute; to html code. So Állo will be saved like &Aacute;llo When I insert the data from the DB to a 'div' it shows Állo. When I insert the data into a input field it shows &Aacute;llo What am I doing wrong I use JQUERY to save data to the DB with the $.post method without pagerefresh. I also get the data from the DB with JQUERY $.post method without pagerefresh. Hope somebody can help.

• What is XML good for and when should i be using it?

  I'm curious, I've been developing pretty powerful websites/web apps, and I've never learnt XML, even odder I've never really felt the need to. It's not like Curl or Prepared Statements where before knowing what they did and how they worked I had a feeling 'there's got to be an easier way to do this!' or 'there's got to be something designed for this!'. Currently I work with MySQL and JSON and I don't have this feeling of 'I need to learn that' (XML), this must be wrong! I'm really interested to hear some compelling arguments for XML, and learn about things which it can do beter than JSON or MySQL (or some other aspect of web dev) and when i should be using it!

  Currently i have varchar field. The delimiter is "$P$P$". The delimiter will appear atleast once and atmost twice in the varchar data. Eg. Sample Heading$P$P$Sample description$P$P$Sample conclusion Sample Heading$P$P$Sample Description If the delimiter appears twice, i need to insert a text before the second occurance of the delimiter. Now, is it that instead of PHP interpreter there is python interpreter & instead of php script there is python script, which contains both HTML & python (embedded in some kind of python tags). Can't one code in python without using Django. Because, I never encountered any post without django Please give me some kick start.

• Next Identity Key LINQ + SQL Server

  To represent our course tree structure in our Linq Dataclasses we have 2 columns that could potentially be the same as the PK. My problem is that if I want to Insert a new record and populate 2 other columns with the PK that was generated there is no way I can get the next identity and stop conflict with other administrators who might be doing the same insert at the same time. Case: A Leaf node has right_id and left_id = itself (prereq_id) **dbo.pre_req:** prereq_id left_id right_id op_id course_id is_head is_coreq is_enforced parent_course_id and I basically want to do this: pre_req rec = new pre_req { left_id = prereq_id, right_id = prereq_id, op_id = 3, course_id = query.course_id, is_head = true, is_coreq = false, parent_course_id = curCourse.course_id }; db.courses.InsertOnSubmit(rec); try { db.SubmitChanges(); } Any way to solve my dilemma?   We're using SQL Inserts to insert some data via a script into DB/2 tables, e.g. CREATE TABLE TICKETS (TICKETID VARCHAR(10) NOT NULL); On my home installation, this statement works fine (note that I'm using an integer which is autoatically cast into a VarChar): INSERT INTO TICKETS (TICKETID) VALUES (1); while at my customer's site I get a type error. My question(s): Is this behavior version dependent? (I use a DB2 Express V9.7, while the customer has an Enterprise V9.5) Is there a config option to change the behavior? (I would like my home install to behave as close as possible as the production environment is going to be.)

  Can anyone please tell me why does the following statement inside a given stored procedure returns repeated results even with locks on the rows used by the first SELECT statement?   What I got so far: It all begins with an HTML form which prompts the user for a username and password. From there it post the acquired user/pass to a servlet, GateKeeper. GateKeeper determines if the user/pass combination match any records in the MySQL database. Here is the sql I use: SELECT id FROM Users WHERE username='?' AND password=MD5('?') where the ? indicate information provided the previous HTML form. What I need now: I need some way to store the username and id of the record in the database. GateKeeper redirects the user to a control panel upon success. Therefore, I need a method to reference the username to display simple greetings, etc and also the id so it eliminates unnecessary calls to the database. The control panel may make AJAX calls to Servlets that preform some sort of task to the MySQL database.
