• SQL to get distinct statistics

  Hi, Suppose I have data in table X: id assign team ---------------------- 1 hunkim A 1 ygg A 2 hun B 2 gw B 2 david B 3 haha A I want to know how many assigns for each id. I can get using: select id, count(distinct assign) from X group by id order by count(distinct assign)desc; It will give me something: 1 2 2 3 3 1 My question is how can I get the average of the all assign counts? In addition, now I want to know the everage per team. So I want to get something like: team assign_avg ------------------- A 1.5 B 3 Thanks in advance!

• Scrum: What if the Product Owner has tasks?

  I have just started working with a team that has picked up some aspects of Scrum (two week timeboxing) but not others (the team does not currently agree to all estimates or to the number of points in a sprint, but I'll change this soon.) The product owner is also a technical resource (scientist) with some development background. Is it appropriate to have the product owner's tasks (which mostly involve research) mixed in with the team's tasks (some of which are research and some development). I have looked at a lot of resources and not found an answer. Thanks!

• How to select a names from a column MS Excel 2007

  Hey guys, I have an Excel document which has a list of students and their group names. I have another sheet within the the same excel document which is called comments. In this sheet, I would like to have a list of individual team names listed. There are 65 students and 14 defined groups. Is there a way to select the 14 group names, without repitition? Cell B3-B67 have the student names. Cell C3-C67 have the team names. The team names are entered against each student. I know in SQL I could use something like select distinct(team_name) but in Excel, how can I replicate this? Cheers, Alks.

  Hello guyz,i am new to daatbase and class diagram.I just get scenarios from internet and try to develop ERD and Class Diagram for them.But the following scenario has caused me some problems, and i am not sure about my design. "Whenever an employee fills leave application form, the leave application should be appeared for approval to his/her team leader. Team Leader has the option to change the date of requested leave and to approve or reject the leave. Employee also has the option to change date of previously unapproved leaves or to cancel any of unapproved leave. In case of team leader, he can approve his own leaves. Management should be able to create categories of leaves like (Casual, Sick, Planned work, etc) and should be able to adjust the days allocated to each type of leave". I have identified these as entities for ERD 1) Employee(I think i dont need to make entity for Technical lead,since he is an employee) 2) LeaveHistory 3) LeaveCategory Plz correct me if the system need more classes or entities

• Complicated football league Dynamic Ordering in MySQL?

  I have a table 'games' for a football league as follows: date home_team_id away_team_id home_score away_score - 1 2 6 21 - 3 1 7 19 I can't figure out how to dynamically generate a list of team ID's ordered by Wins (then points for if poss)? -- I have this query which works fine when I have a $team_id but of cause then I can only do 1 team at a time, and that doesn't allow for ordering at query level ((SELECT COUNT(*) FROM `games` WHERE ((`home_score` > `away_score`) AND `home_team_id` = '.$team_id.')) + (SELECT COUNT(*) FROM `games` WHERE ((`home_score` < `away_score`) AND `away_team_id` = '.$team_id.'))) AS `wins` I wonder if i can use this with some form of GROUP, or mySQL can know the $team_id itself? I've also tried some multiple JOINs with the 'team' table but they didn't work either. • Sequence Generators in T-SQL

  We have an Oracle application that uses a standard pattern to populate surrogate keys. We have a series of extrinsic rows (that have specific values for the surrogate keys) and other rows that have intrinsic values. We use the following Oracle trigger snippet to determine what to do with the Surrogate key on insert: 'IF :NEW.SurrogateKey IS NULL THEN SELECT SurrogateKey_SEQ.NEXTVAL INTO :NEW.SurrogateKey FROM DUAL; END IF;' If the supplied surrogate key is null then get a value from the nominated sequence, else pass the supplied surrogate key through to the row. I can't seem to find an easy way to do this is T-SQL. There are all sorts of approaches, but none of which use the notion of a sequence generator like Oracle and other SQL-92 compliant DBs do. Anybody know of a really efficient way to do this in SQL Server T-SQL? BTW we're using SQL Server 2008 if that's any help. TIA, Paolo

I would like to know when a player reach a milestone (eg 100 goals, 100 assists, 500 goals...) I would like to know also when a team reach a milestone. I want to know which player or team reach 100 goals first, second, third... I thought to use triggers with tables to accumulate the totals. Table player_accumulator (and team_accumulator) table would be player_id total_goals total_assists 1 3 6 team_id total_goals total_assists 8 3 1 9 0 5 Each time a row is inserted in stats table, a trigger will insert/update player_accumulator and team_accumulator tables. This trigger could also verify if player or team has reached a milestone in milestone table containing numbers milestone 100 500 1000 ... A table player_milestone would contains milestone reached by player: player_id stat milestone date 1 goal 100 2013-04-02 1 assist 100 2012-11-19 There is a better way to implements a "milestone" ? There is an easiest way without triggers ? I'm using PostgreSQL

• SQL Server 2000 DTS Package Failing with "The number of failing rows exceeds the maximum specified"

  I have inherited a SQL Server 2000 DTS package that migrates data from SQL Server to Oracle. This package moves about 20 tables' data to Oracle every night with no transformations, and it is then transformed by a set of SPs and used by a GIS application. Twice this week, during the migration between SQL Server and Oracle, the package has failed with "The number of failing rows exceeds the maximum specified". It has failed on a different table each time, though. Each time it's failed, we've rerun the process the next morning and it has worked. Because the process works the second time it's run, it makes me think the data is being changed by someone or something between the initial failure and our successful second run. I would like to change the DTS package to log the failing rows in a text document so we can compare them later. Can someone help me with that? I can't seem to figure that part out. Scott

• Should Marketing departments have basic HTML skills?

  Working within an organisation as part of the in-house site development team, a lot of my team's throughput is driven by the colouring-in (marketing) department. It is their responsibility to provide approved content and imagery for the features or enhancements that we include on each iteration of the company site. One thing I've noticed in this job and several previous ones is that the Marketing department is extremely particular about wording and presentation, but has little to no understanding of the actual medium with which they're working - the web. I find that my team is constantly making best guesses for various HTML attributes like image alt text, titles, rel tags, blockquote cite attributes and the like. How reasonable is it to expect that marketing departments have a strong understanding of the purpose of HTML metadata? Should it be the developer's job to remind and inform each time or are marketing departments falling behind the technology they're working with? What could I reasonably expect our marketing department to understand and provide every time with each new work request?

  Our (small to medium-sized) company is going to start enforcing an internet policy which everyone, including the team of 4 senior developers, will be subject to. Amongst other things, this means that developers will not be able to access: web based e-mail (Hotmail, Yahoo, Googlemail) instant messaging accounts (MSN Messenger) social networking sites (Facebook) streaming media (internet radio) At the moment, we don't have any restrictions on our internet use, so I really want to find out what the effect on the team will be. Then you get offered a permanent role at an IT solution provider as a Senior Developer/Technical Lead. Would you stick with the contracting, or go to the permanent role? The contract role: pays well will probably be extended provides finance industry experience is reasonably challenging, although I don't get much ownership over the projects The permanent role: pays less gives me technical lead/team lead experience- involves a range of websites for different clients, and I get to take ownership of projects much more challenging technically, as I have to "earn my stripes" within the team before I'll be given team lead responsibilities. If you were in this situation, would you take the pay-cut and go with the permanent role? Or would you continue contracting, and not feel like you might have missed out on something really good?

• Is there a more efficient way to retrieve tables from websites using wpf + webclient

  new to the community, but here is my first question that I am stuck on. I am new to WPF and WebClient using c# and I am attempting to make a program that access www.nba.com to populate a combobox I have with team names, and then when a user selects a team from the combobox, I wanted to populate a portion of the main window with the roster from the teams home site, same style and eveything. I was able to populate the combobox using the WebClient.OpenRead and reading in the markup to extract the team names. Now I am on the more difficult part. I was planning on using the same method to grab all the markup and then somehow display the table in a content panel, but I feel that this is a very tedious thing to do. Can anyone give me any tips for completing this action or is there a method in the webclient class that allows me to search a webpage for a table or object other than text? Thanks.

• How can programmers get the quiet working environment they need? [closed]

  We have an open plan office with all our programmers, web designers and client service team. Problem is my programmer team has to put up with dance music and wailing guitars all day due to the fact that designers and client services team think this makes the office a better environment. When I turn it off (by blocking the streaming of music on the router, he-he-he) they complain that its so quiet and dull. How do I explain to them that programmers need a calm quiet environment without coming across like a really annoying geek? Any other thoughts or ideas appreciated.

• Know if a Visual Studio Website project is recompiling itself in the background?

  A number of team members update a central ASP.NET dev site (Website project, not a Web application type). Some kinds of changes cause a recompile/rebuild in it. The large website takes a while to recompile and we've noticed it will still seemingly serve out dynamic pages before everything is internally updated. During the site's "gestation" period, our mileage varies while hitting it. Sometimes we get a correct page, sometimes an compilation error page that will eventually be served up without a compilation error, and at other times an unexpected hybrid. Is it possible to query an ASP.NET website application to see if it's currently compiling or rebuilding itself? If so I would write a status page that the team could reference when they're getting weird behaviour, so they would know to wait. Update: Our team often edit files manually on the dev server. For production we'd make pre-compiled pushes. The dev environment is a little more malleable and ever-changing so I'm looking for a solution to reducing the "confusion" there.

There is mutual agreement between the developers and Product Managers that there should be a business case behind every feature the development team builds. My question is, what is an effective way to make a business case for platform-level features that have higher up front cost but will provide long term benefits? For example, the development team would like to implement a plug-in framework. There is the higher up-front cost to implement a plug-in framework but delivering the subsequent features as plug-ins will be cheaper in the long run. This is obvious to everyone including the Product Managers. Is there a standard/simple way to express the cost-benefits? Is there a simple way to visualize it with a graph?

  I was recently asked by a Team Leader (not mine) if I would be willing to undertake a programming project. The members of his team are currently pre-occupied with other more important projects. I graduated college two years ago, and up until now programming has only been a hobby of mine. Recently I decided that I would like to pursue a career in software development. I accepted his offer so that I can gain some real-world experience and start building a portfolio. In about an hour I'm scheduled to meet with the Team Leader to discuss the details of what he needs. From a short e-mail exchange with him, I know that the base project is to update an existing ASP.NET form—but I also think there's more to it than that. Considering that I'd like to eventually put this project in a portfolio, what kinds of notes should I take at the meeting?

So you can insert a sub-level such as , continue to build the request, and remember to insert a closing tag". I'm interrested for this application. Do you know if this package exists ? • Use sudo su - <username> to access the <username's> account but sudo su - shouldn't be possible with a sudo user

My sudo users (for which their entry in sudoers file) should be able to access other user's account say Oracle using following command: sudo su - Oracle The above should work with giving current users password. But if the same user is firing the following command, sudo su - it shouldn't work and thus root access shouldnt be given to current user. I am not using su because because i dont want current user to know the credentials of other user(root,Oracle etc.). Can anyone please help me . Its urgent...
