  • Loop through several servers, find specific dlls , get the dll version, internal filename and path?

    I am a newby to Powershell, and using PS v2. I can see the massive potential it has, but I just can't get the following code to work fully. I am trying to end up with a csv file that contains the wild carded required dlls in the GAC_MSIL or sub-directory, get the dll version, internal filename and path, and the server IP address. The code is below, and it is in single line format because it appears easier to remote onto one of the servers in the server farm and run the single line from that console, ue to security log-ins etc. The code has produced a set of results, but only for the last server, it probably does the first server, then overwrites it but I am not sure about that. I have done a lot of reading about using arrays, and custom objects, and had a go at doing that, but my scripting skills in PS are not yet up to it.   • AD domain on web servers behind NAT - DNS issues?

    I'm trying to setup an AD domain to manage the security between two Windows Server 2008 webservers that will sooner or later use NLB to balance website requests. I've hit a problem which I think is a simple solution and is down to DNS. My website domain is mydomain.com. The two servers are running behind a NAT firewall on the 10.0.0.0 IP range. I've setup the AD domain to be called ad.mydomain.com (as recommended by MS and a few other answers to questions on here). The second web server however doesn't want to join the domain, and gives an error pinning the problem on DNS - "ensure that the domain name is typed correctly" even though it queries the SRV record successfully and gets the correct DC back - dc.ad.mydomain.com. Doing a dcdiag /test:dns on the DC gives the Delegation error 'DNS Server dc.mydomain.com Missing glue A record'. I have a feeling I need to add something to the public DNS so that it in some way knows about ad.mydomain.com. Can anyone suggest whether I'm on the right track in adding something to the public DNS? Or whether it's something else? Many thanks

The error_log shows: [11061] auth_ldap authenticate: user quanta authentication failed; URI / [LDAP: ldap_simple_bind_s() failed][Can't contact LDAP server] Did I misunderstand? AuthBasicProvider ldap1 ldap2 only means that if mod_authz_ldap can't find the user in ldap1, it will continue with ldap2. It doesn't include the failover feature (ldap1 must be running and working fine)?

  • Is it worth hiring a hacker to perform some penetration testing on my servers ?

    I'm working in a small IT company with paranoid clients, so security has always been an important consideration to us ; In the past, we've already mandated two penetration testing from independent companies specialized in this area (Dionach and GSS). We've also ran some automated penetration tests using Nessus. Those two auditors were given a lot of insider information, and found almost nothing* ... While it feels comfortable to think our system is perfectly sure (and it was surely comfortable to show those reports to our clients when they performed their due diligence work), I've got a hard time believing that we've achieved a perfectly sure system, especially considering that we have no security specialist in our company (Security has always been a concern, and we're completely paranoid, which helps, but that's far as it goes!) If hackers can hack into companies that probably employ at least a few people whose sole task is to ensure their data stays private, surely they could hack into our small business, right ? Does someone have any experience in hiring an "ethical hacker"? How to find one? How much would it cost? *The only recommendation they made us was to upgrade our remote desktop protocols on two windows servers, which they were able to access because we gave them the correct non-standard port and whitelisted their IP

  • Copy one db diagram from one db to another on different servers? (Same db)

    I used the copy database wizard to copy my database from our test server to our production server, the database copied everything fine except for the diagram. Okay no problem, first I make sure the target database on production has the support objects created to use database diagraming. Then I select to import data from the other database and chose the dbo.sysdiagrams.Go through with the rest of the import data wizard, but then I get the following error: Validating (Error) Messages Error 0xc0202049: Data Flow Task: Failure inserting into the read-only column "diagram_id". (SQL Server Import and Export Wizard) Error 0xc0202045: Data Flow Task: Column metadata validation failed. (SQL Server Import and Export Wizard) Error 0xc004706b: Data Flow Task: "component "Destination - sysdiagrams" (31)" failed validation and returned validation status "VS_ISBROKEN". (SQL Server Import and Export Wizard) Error 0xc004700c: Data Flow Task: One or more component failed validation. (SQL Server Import and Export Wizard) Error 0xc0024107: Data Flow Task: There were errors during task validation. (SQL Server Import and Export Wizard) So apparently it didn't like that. What's the problem? I am pretty beginner in SQL Server and only do stuff via the GUI usually so am not sure what to do at this point. The databases are the same, but on different servers. Thanks!

  • error in IIS7 but not on IIS6

    I have a website that is we are now deploying to windows 2008 servers that has worked in the past on IIS6 without a problem. It is using .net 2 framework. Most of the website works.     I have several websites which get approximately 3000 pageviews in total per day, and I get this viewstate error roughly 5-10 times per day, caught in global.asax: System.Web.HttpException: Unable to validate data. at System.Web.Configuration.MachineKeySection.GetDecodedData(Byte[] buf, Byte[] modifier, Int32 start, Int32 length, Int32& dataLength) at System.Web.UI.ObjectStateFormatter.Deserialize(String inputString) I have tried: hard-coding the machine key in web.config for all websites hard-coding the machien key in machine.config adding items to the pages section of the web.config for all websites. Machine key looks like: <machineKey validationKey="key goes here" decryptionKey="key goes here" validation="SHA1" decryption="AES" /> Pages section looks like: <pages renderAllHiddenFieldsAtTopOfForm="true" validateRequest="false" enableEventValidation="false" viewStateEncryptionMode="Never"> The errors are not related to application pool recycling as best I can tell, as the pool is set to recycle at every 100,000 requests. I am not running a web farm or web garden. Quite often I get two or three of these errors in a row, as if a user is getting an error, going back, and then clicking the link again. Anyone have any ideas?

    I've been tasked with stress/load testing our company web site out of the blue and know nothing about doing so. Every search I make on google for "how to load test a web site" just comes back with various companies and software to physically do the load testing. For now I'm more interested in how to actually go about setting up a load test like what I should take into account prior to load testing, what pages within my site I should be testing load against and what things I'm going to want to monitor when doing the test. Our web site is on a multi-tier system complete with a separate database server (IIS 7 Web Server, SQL Server 2000 db). I imagine I'd want to monitor both the web server and the database server for testing load however when setting up scenarios to load test the web server I'd have to use pages that query the database to see any load on the database server at the same time. Are web servers and database servers generally tested simultaneously or are they done as separate tests? As you can see I'm pretty clueless as to the whole operation so any incite as to how to go about this would be very helpful. FYI I have been tinkering with Pylot and was able to create and run a scenario against our site but I'm not sure what I should be looking for in the results or if the scenario I created is even a scenario worth measuring for our site.   • Getting an ASP.MVC2/VS2010 application to work in IIS 7.5

    I've recently downloaded beta 2 of VS2010 and started playing with ASP.NET MVC2. Initial development was done with Casini, but now I wanted to run the application from IIS 7.5 (I'm running Windows 7). I've installed the IIS6 metabase compatiblity and I run VS2010 as administrator so I can use the "Create Virtual Directory" button from the "Web" tab of the project settings. This created the web application entry in IIS, but it doesn't work. When I go to the main page (http://localhost/MyMvcApp/) I get a HTTP 403 error. When I go directly to one of the sub-pages (http://localhost/MyMvcApp/Home/) I get an HTTP 404. So I guess for some reason the URL routing isn't working. I've already added UrlRouting as a module and a handler to the web.config. In my searches this is offered as a solution for some similair problems. But for me this still doesn't work.   • Transfer all 1&1 web and e-mail services to own Synology NAS using No-IP for DDNS

    I have a domain x-treem.net. The registrar is DomainDiscover and I have a hosting package with 1&1 which includes web and e-mail. I also have an additional package with 1&1 - Microsoft Exchange which centralises all my e-mails, tasks, contacts, notes, etc. and I connect to it with my PC (Outlook) and my Android phone. I have just purchased a Synology NAS (DS213) and I can see I can run a web server (Web Station), e-mail server (Mail Server) on it amongst other things. I am behind a dynamic IP. So, I'm looking to get some clarification on what I must do to consolidate my services and make use of my NAS to do as much as possible and save third-party hosting costs. My registrar specifies nameservers as NS45.1AND1.CO.UK and NS46.1AND1.CO.UK. The MX record is mx00.1and1.co.uk and mx01.1and1.co.uk. I'm aware of the concept of DDNS and I am looking at using No-IP.com for this. This is where I need clarification. If I registered with the No-IP paid service and pointed my registrar to No-IP's nameservers, and used the DDNS support on my NAS (which supports No-IP), then any requests to x-treem.net would go to my NAS. Is that correct? Therefore, web requests would hit the web server on my NAS, and e-mails would hit the mail server on my NAS? So, given all of the above, I can then drop 1&1 completely and use my NAS for everything. I use MySQL, phpMyAdmin, phpBB on 1&1 all of which the Synology NAS appears to support in its available packages. As for Microsoft Exchange, Synology offers Zafara which appears to be a drop-in replacement for Exchange. Am I on the right track here, or is there anything I am missing?

  • How does a web server/the http protocol handle version control and compression?

    When a client browser requests a file from the web server, I know that some kind of check is performed, because the files needed to serve the web page may already be cached by the web browser. So, if a file exists in the cache, no files are sent. But if the file on the server has changed since the file was cached in the browser, the file is sent and updated anyhow. Then, if you have compression like gzipping enabled on the server, the files that are to be provided to the client must be gzipped on the way, requiring some amount of server side processing. But how is this managed? The logical approach seems to me, that the web server should have a cache as well, containing the newest version of all files that have been requested within a certain time span, thus a compressed version of these files, so that compression would not have to be done each time a files is requested. And also, how are files eventually requested? Does the browser ask for files, each time it encounters one in the HTML code and the specific file is not stored in the local cache, or does it sum all the files that are needed up and ask for the whole bunch at the same time? But that's only guessing from a programming point of view, and I don't really know. If the answers are very different among web server systems, I'm primarily interested in Apache, but other answers are appreciated, too.

Hello World sample app This is the static web page we will work with: Let's assume the following: The Hello World web page is running on server http://appserver.company.com:1234/ The Hello World web page path is: http://appserver.company.com:1234/helloworld/ Initial Pagelet Producer setup Let's assume that the Pagelet Producer server is running on http://pageletserver.company.com:8889/pagelets/ First let's check that Pagelet Producer is up and running.     Hi, We are using Twitterizer for Twitter integration to get the Tweets details. When making call to the method OAuthUtility.GetRequestToken, following exception is coming. System.Security.SecurityException: Request for the permission of type 'System.Net.WebPermission, System, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed. When the application is hosted on IIS 5, the application works fine and the above error is coming only when the application is hosted in IIS 7 on Windows 2008 R2. and the method OAuthUtility.GetRequestToken throws above exception. It seems the issue is something with code access security. Please suggest what kind of permissions should be given to fix the security exception. The application has the Full Trust and I have even tried by registering the Twitterizer DLL in GAC and still the same error is coming. I am not sure what makes the difference between IIS 5 and IIS 7 with regards to code access security to cause that exception. Following is the stack track of the exception.
