  I would like to install vmware server 1.x on ubuntu 10.04 server amd64 alpha 3. Would this work? Or should I go with ubuntu 9.04 for now? Edit: In the meantime I decided to go with vmware 2.x. I just installed it on ubuntu server 8.04 LTS amd64 and I am quite happy with it so far.

  Normally we create service accounts in Active Directory, and if we install things like SQL Server, etc, we set the software services we set them to use those service accounts. The service accounts don't have the ability to be used to log into a workstation interactively. For Proof of concepts, we're installing SQL Server and other software on Virtual windows 7 workstations that aren't part of a domain, so we are creating local accounts that will be used by windows services. Is it possible to stop those users from appearing as options on the login screen?

Specifically, I want the printable IPA characters to show up. It's not important to fix multi-codepoint glyphs, although it would be nice.   We have some MS SQL servers that are setup with different instances on the same server to separate applciation DB's as well as some servers that are setup with all DB's on the same instance, just separated with security settings. When is it advisable to create a new instance for SQL server and install your DB's in that instance as opposed to just creating a new DB on the same instance and putting security around the database itself? Is there more to the decision that just a security aspect?

• XAMPP won't start because I'm already running MySQL on port 3306

  I'm trying to start XAMPP, but it fails with only the word 'Busy' in the Control Panel console. I ran xampp/install/portcheck.bat to see if the ports were available, and I see that port 3306 is busy (because I'm running MySQL as a service on it). I suppose that XAMPP wants to take over and run MySQL on that port. Can anyone tell me how to get XAMPP to just make use of the existing server and not try to control it itself?

• Remotely Trigger WSUS Downloaded update Installation

  I have a Tripp-Lite Smart150rmxl2ua UPS. The software from their website doesn't seem to work properly. I also tried "apcupsd" which is an open source software which i am supposed to be able to use to manage my UPS and I had no luck with that either since Windows 7 did not want to install and use the drivers since they are "incompatible". Is there another good working open source software out there? It sucks that Tripp-Lite doesn't supply its customers with working software.

  How costly (CPU or memory wise) is it to have multiple instances of SQL server 2005 instead of only one instance with prefixed databases? A company have three application providers. They each will install one application and they each require two or three databases. Should they all use the same instance or should every provider use it's own named instance?
