  • Load large images into Bitmap?

    I'm trying to make a basic application that displays an image from the camera, but I when I try to load the .jpg in from the sdcard with BitmapFactory.decodeFile, it returns null. It doesn't give an out of memory error which I find strange, but the exact same code works fine on smaller images. How does the generic gallery display huge pictures from the camera with so little memory?

  • If I create a transient property in the model, isn't this managed by core data then?

    Just to grok this: If I had a transient property, lets say averagePrice, and I mark that as "transient" in the data modeler: This will not be persistet, and no column will be created in SQLite for that? And: If I make my own NSManagedObject subclass with an averagePrice property, does it make any sense to model that property in the xcdatamodel file? Would it make a difference if I would simply create a property in my subclass and not model that in the entity? (I think: yes, it doesn't matter at all ... but not sure)

    I got exception when I tried to delete one NSManageObject at the event of tableView:commiteEditingStyle:forRowAtIndexPath:. Here is the part of my codes: - (void)tableView:(..)tableView commitEditingStyle:(..)editingStyle forRowAtIndexPath:(..)indexPath { if (editingStyle == UITableViewCellEditingStyleDelete) { [managedObjectContext deleteObject: [fetchedResultController objectAtIndexPath:indexPath]]; ... } } The exception was thrown at the line of deleteObject:(method of my local NSManagedObjectContext). This is the exception message: uncaught exception 'NSObjectInaccessibleException', reason: 'The NSManagedObject with ID:0x3d07a30 <x-coredata://0D2CC9CB-042B-496D-B3FE-5F1ED64EAB97/paymentType/p2> has been invalidated.' I tried to get entity object first and then to delete it. The entity looks OK but still the exception was at delete: NSManagedObject *entityToDelete = [fetchedResultsController objectAtIndexPath:indexPath]; [mangedObjectContext deleteObject:entityToDelete]; // Exception again. I am not sure if the entity object retrieved from the fetchedResultsController(NSFetchedResultsController type) cannot be deleted? If so, is there any other way to get the entity object for deleting?

    As per the latest update of Kindle V2.5, it has support of "continue downloading books while the app is in the background on iOS 4 devices". How is it possible to download content in background? As per the iOS multitasking documentation, only audio, voip & location updates are possible in background. And I've also maken sure that NSURLConnection doesn't download new data work while app goes background. Then how's it possible with Kindle app? Edit: I haven't checked Kindle App in iOS4 multitasking enabled device. So if anyone let me (& community) know what exactly Kindle app does to download, that would be very much helpful.

  • ImageViews sometimes not displaying in FrameLayout activity

    The top level layout in my activity is a framelayout. I have completed, debugged and tested this app and it works exactly like it should in all respects on my g1 and on various emulators. But on 3.7-inch displays running 2.1+, some imageviews packed in a linearlayout are periodically not visible. I know that they are there because you can touch and drag them with effect in the app. So I assume somehow they have gotten under the SurfaceView that is the main component of the app. This is apparently so even though the SurfaceView is declared in the xml prior to the LinearLayout. However, the ImageViews IN the LinearLayout are added programmatically towards the end of onCreate(). Framelayout stacks everything that is added to it, one on top of the other--the only way you will see more than one child of a frame layout is if they are smaller than the screen and are placed apart from eachother. Oddly, sometimes the imageviews ARE visible--it is random. Anyway, I've been trying to combat this with framelayout.bringChildToFront(View v) on the linearlayout without success. I wonder if anyone has any insight into how the behavior could be random like that, and how I should code these imageviews to keep this from happening, and why the problem appears only to occur on 3.7 vs 3.2 inch screens (as it happens, the two 3.2-inch screens were both htc, so vendor might be factor too). [edit] Actually, I've determined that this is a 2.2 issue, not a screen size (or even vendor) issue. Can't ensure that ImageViews added to a framelayout with a SurfaceView in it will appear on top of the surfaceview. I ran some tests in the respective onDraw() methods and the imageviews are 'visible' (0), and nothing does anything to the alpha of the drawables, which are there as well at ondraw().     So I'm working on a web-app for the Google Marketplace that's going to involve integration with Google Drive. Part of what I want to be able to do with the app involves something along the lines of adding a menu option to the Drive menu interface. For instance, you could be editing a document in drive and browse to File-"My new fancy option." Does anyone know if this is possible? Or if it is not, is there another way of adding this sort of custom action functionality where you are able to perform non Drive standard actions on files from within the Drive interface?

  • iOS: How to access the `UIKeyboard`?

    I want to get a pointer reference to UIKeyboard *keyboard to the keyboard on screen so that I can add a transparent subview to it, covering it completely, to achieve the effect of disabling the UIKeyboard without hiding it. In doing this, can I assume that there's only one UIKeyboard on the screen at a time? I.e., is it a singleton? Where's the method [UIKeyboard sharedInstance]. Brownie points if you implement that method via a category. Or, even more brownie points if you convince me why it's a bad idea to assume only one keyboard and give me a better solution.

    I have a localized string which needs to take a few variables. However, in localization it is important that the order of the variables can change from language to language. So this is not a good idea: NSString *text = NSLocalizedString(@"My birthday is at %@ %@ in %@", nil); In some languages some words come before others, while in others it's reverse. I lack of an good example at the moment. How would I provide NAMED variables in a formatted string? Is there any way to do it without some heavy self-made string replacements? Even some numbered variables like {%@1}, {%@2}, and so on would be sufficient... is there a solution?

    I am developing and tableView in which in each row I have to display the click counter and row number.Each cell must have an initial click counter value of 0 when application is initialized. Then increment the click counter value within a cell whenever a user clicks on the cell. I have take 26 fixed rows. I have taken tableData.plist file as in the attached image. I am initializing the self.dataArray with the plist .   • Custom action getting published multiple times on user's timeline for same object

    I just noticed that when I publish an action on the user's timeline for the same object multiple times, using facebook's 'built-in' action type (eg: 'read' an article), i get an error response, something like "action is already associated to the user on this object". But when i try to do the same for a custom action that i created(eg: 'agreed' with an article), I don't get any error message, instead the actions gets published multiple times. I want my custom action to behave just like facebook's default action-type.

  • Strange behaviour of NSScanner on simple whitespace removal

    I'm trying to replace all multiple whitespace in some text with a single space. This should be a very simple task, however for some reason it's returning a different result than expected. I've read the docs on the NSScanner and it seems like it's not working properly! NSScanner *scanner = [[NSScanner alloc] initWithString:@"This is a test of NSScanner !"]; NSMutableString *result = [[NSMutableString alloc] init]; NSString *temp; NSCharacterSet *whitespace = [NSCharacterSet whitespaceCharacterSet]; while (![scanner isAtEnd]) { // Scan upto and stop before any whitespace [scanner scanUpToCharactersFromSet:whitespace intoString:&temp]; // Add all non whotespace characters to string [result appendString:temp]; // Scan past all whitespace and replace with a single space if ([scanner scanCharactersFromSet:whitespace intoString:NULL]) { [result appendString:@" "]; } } But for some reason the result is @"ThisisatestofNSScanner!" instead of @"This is a test of NSScanner !". If you read through the comments and what each line should achieve it seems simple enough!? scanUpToCharactersFromSet should stop the scanner just as it encounters whitespace. scanCharactersFromSet should then progress the scanner past the whitespace up to the non-whitespace characters. And then the loop continues to the end. What am I missing or not understanding?

  • iOS - Passing variable to view controller

    I have a view with a view controller and when I show this view on screen, I want to be able to pass variables to it from the calling class, so that I can set the values of labels etc. First, I just tried creating a property for one of the labels, and calling that from the calling class. For example: SetTeamsViewController *vc = [[SetTeamsViewController alloc] init]; vc.myLabel.text = self.teamCount; [self presentModalViewController:vc animated:YES]; [vc release]; However, this didn't work. So I tried creating a convenience initializer. SetTeamsViewController *vc = [[SetTeamsViewController alloc] initWithTeamCount:self.teamCount]; And then in the SetTeamsViewController I had - (id)initWithTeamCount:(int)teamCount { self = [super initWithNibName:nil bundle:nil]; if (self) { // Custom initialization self.teamCountLabel.text = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%d",teamCount]; } return self; } However, this didn't work either. It's just loading whatever value I've given the label in the nib file. I've littered the code with NSLog()s and it is passing the correct variable values around, it's just not setting the label. Any help would be greatly appreciated. EDIT: I've just tried setting an instance variable in my designated initializer, and then setting the label in viewDidLoad and that works! Is this the best way to do this? Also, when dismissing this modal view controller, I update the text of a button in the view of the calling ViewController too. However, if I press this button again (to show the modal view again) whilst the other view is animating on screen, the button temporarily has it's original value again (from the nib). Does anyone know why this is?

    So i'm using coredata to model my relationships . This is the model in brief Type A can have one or more types of type B Type B has a inverse relationship of being associated with one of type A Type B can have one or more types of type C Type C has a inverse relationship of being associated with one of type B From a UI standpoint , I have a Navigation controller with controllers that successively sets up the first A object (VC-1) , then another viewcontroller (VC-2) creates a B object ( I pass in the A object to this controller) and the B object is added to the A object . Similarly the same thing happens with B and C . The third Viewcontroller (VC3) first creates a C object and assigns it to the passed B Object . Also between these viewcontrollers the managedObjectCOntext is also passed . SO my use case is such that while viewcontroller (VC-3) is the top controller a button action will keep creating multiple objects of type C and add them to the same type B object that was passed . Also as part of this function I save the managedObject context after saving each type C . e.g. code in viewcontroller 3 - (void) SaveNewTypeC { TypeC *newtypeC = (Question*)[NSEntityDescription insertNewObjectForEntityForName:@"TypeC" inManagedObjectContext:managedObjectContext]; [newtypeC setProp1:] ; [newtypeC setProp2:] .. .. **[typeBObject addTypeCInTypeBObject:newtypeC];** [section setTotalCObjectCount:[ NSNumber numberWithInt:typeCIndex++]]; NSError *error = nil; if (![managedObjectContext save:&error]) { // Handle error NSLog(@"Unresolved error %@, %@, %@", error, [error userInfo],[error localizedDescription]); exit(-1); // Fail } [newtypeC release]; } - (IBAction)selectedNewButton:(id)sender { [self SaveNewTypeC]; [self startRepeatingTimer]; } The BAD ACCESS seems to appear when the bold line above executes Relating to some HashValue .
