I know about those 2 policy XML filesbut Java EE service which I'm trying to call is hosted on a IBM WebSphere Process Server to which I don't have access. • Using SiteMesh with RequestDispatcher's forward()

  I'm attempting to integrate SiteMesh into a legacy application using Tomcat 5 as my a container. I have a main.jsp that I'm decorating with a simple decorator. In decorators.xml, I've just got one decorator defined: <decorators defaultdir="/decorators"> <decorator name="layout-main" page="layout-main.jsp"> <pattern>/jsp/main.jsp</pattern> </decorator> </decorators> This decorator works if I manually go to http://example.com/my-webapp/jsp/main.jsp. However, there are a few places where a servlet, instead of doing a redirect to a jsp, does a forward: getServletContext().getRequestDispatcher("/jsp/main.jsp").forward(request, response); This means that the URL remains at something like http://example.com/my-webapp/servlet/MyServlet instead of the jsp file and is therefore not being decorated, I presume since it doesn't match the pattern in decorators.xml. I can't do a <pattern>/*</pattern> because there are other jsps that do not need to be decorated by layout-main.jsp. I can't do a <pattern>/servlet/MyServlet*</pattern> because MyServlet may forward to main.jsp sometimes and perhaps error.jsp at other times. Is there a way to work around this without expansive changes to how the servlets work? Since it's a legacy app I don't have as much freedom to change things, so I'm hoping for something configuration-wise that will fix this. SiteMesh's documentation really isn't that great. I've been working mostly off the example application that comes with the distribution. I really like SiteMesh, and am hoping I can get it to work in this case.

Oracle and MSFT stored procs are generated; Oracle ones have 3 extra parameters: Vret_val out number, Vparam2 in out number, Vparam3 in out number, ... the rest (The are not actually named Vparam2 and Vparam3, but this should not matter). The {{, }}, and (?) do throw me off because { reminds me of formatting, (?) hints at some advanced regex use. Unfortunately I am getting little help from a key person who is on vacation without a leash [smart]phone. I am guessing that I simply add 5 more lines for each additional parameter, and change String.Format("{{call {0}(?)}}", spName) to String.Format("{{call {0}(?,?,?)}}", spName). I forgot to mention that I am coding this "blindly" - I have a compiler to help me, but no environment set up to test this.   I'd like to create a MSBuild project that reflects the project dependencies in a solution and wraps the VS projects inside reusable targets. The problem I like solve doing this is to svn-export, build and deploy a specific assembly (and its dependencies) in an BizTalk application. My question is: How can I make the targets for svn-exporting, building and deploying reusable and also reuse the wrapped projects when they are built for different dependencies? I know it would be simpler to just build the solution and deploy only the assemblies needed but I'd like to reuse the targets as much as possible. • Keep Hibernate Initializer from Crashing Program

  I have a Java program using a basic Hibernate session factory. I had an issue with a hibernate hbm.xml mapping file and it crashed my program even though I had the getSessionFactory() call in a try catch try { session = SessionFactoryUtil.getSessionFactory().openStatelessSession(); session.beginTransaction(); rh = getRunHistoryEntry(session); if(rh == null) { throw new Exception("No run history information found in the database for run id " + runId_ + "!"); } } catch(Exception ex) { logger.error("Error initializing hibernate"); } It still manages to break out of this try/catch and crash the main thread. How do I keep it from doing this? The main issue is I have a bunch of cleanup commands that NEED to be run before the main thread shuts down and need to be able to guarantee that even after a failure it still cleans up and goes down somewhat gracefully. • How to format the Facebook news feed description of grouped app posts?

  I have an app which posts a message like this to a user's Facebook timeline: This is working fine, but if I post a few times, my posts get grouped on my news feed, and I get this: What settings should I use to control the way this news report appears? Instead of 'All about periods' and the page link in the box at the top, I'd like 'Body iQ Quiz' and the app description. Where would I set these values? And is it possible to make the grouped report say 'Jay cee Effex shared a link via Body iQ Quiz', the way the original post does? • how do simple SQLAlchemy relationships work?

  I'm no database expert -- I just know the basics, really. I've picked up SQLAlchemy for a small project, and I'm using the declarative base configuration rather than the "normal" way. This way seems a lot simpler. However, while setting up my database schema, I realized I don't understand some database relationship concepts. If I had a many-to-one relationship before, for example, articles by authors (where each article could be written by only a single author), I would put an author_id field in my articles column. But SQLAlchemy has this ForeignKey object, and a relationship function with a backref kwarg, and I have no idea what any of it MEANS. I'm scared to find out what a many-to-many relationship with an intermediate table looks like (when I need additional data about each relationship). Can someone demystify this for me? Right now I'm setting up to allow openID auth for my application. What does it do? What is a backref?

• Rails with passenger only runs in development

  Hey, I have a problem on one of our webservers. I'll try to explain it as clear as possible, but I'm not 100% aware of all the configuration of the server. There are 2 sites running next to eachother (blcc_preprod and blcc_prod), so in the 'sites-enabled' of apache this i have a file 'blcc' like this: <VirtualHost *:80> DocumentRoot /opt/dn/blcc/www RailsBaseURI /blcc_preprod RailsBaseURI /blcc_prod RailsEnv production </VirtualHost> My config/environments/production.log (from both) looks like this(I removed all comments, because it messes with the layout) config.cache_classes = true config.action_controller.consider_all_requests_local = false config.action_controller.perform_caching = true config.action_view.cache_template_loading = true config.log_level = :debug The weird thing is, that my production log dates from months ago, so something is really wrong. Could someone help? If you need more info, just ask. Thanks! • Trouble Running Leaks Instrument

  I'm having trouble running the Leaks Instrument since installing the 3.0 SDK. An NDA disclaimer here I don't think this is a 3.0 SDK issue, just a configuration problem. So I'm looking for advice on configuring the tools in question not the 3.0 SDK per se. Here’s the breakdown of the behavior I am seeing. My Application is compiled to OS version 2.2. I can run it out of XCode in debug mode on the Simulator and Device running 2.2, 2.2.1, 3.0. If I start it with Performance Tools - Leaks, I get an error message from the OS, “The application xxxx quit unexpectedly”, “Ignore, Report, Relaunch.” If I click “Ignore” one of two things will happen, either Leaks tells me it couldn’t attach, or Leaks stop responding to input and I have to Force Quit. Interesting thing is the Simulator starts in 3.0 OS. If I start Instruments Manually and attach to a running 2.2 Simulator it shows the same behavior. If I attach Leaks to an iPhone Device it works. It seems that once I launch Leaks my app won't run in the simulator until I do a new build. Any ideas for getting my Simulator/Leaks/Xcode synced back up? Thanks, Geoff

  TL;DR version: What do you use for configurable (and preferably captured) logging inside your C++ bits in a Python project? Details follow. Say you have a a few compiled .so modules that may need to do some error checking and warn user of (partially) incorrect data. Currently I'm having a pretty simplistic setup where I'm using logging framework from Python code and log4cxx library from C/C++. log4cxx log level is defined in a file (log4cxx.properties) and is currently fixed and I'm thinking how to make it more flexible. Second one seems to be somewhat cleaner, but it requires function signature alteration (or using kwargs and parsing them). • One config file for multiple environments

  I'm currently working with systems that has quite a lot of configuration settings that are environment specific (Dev, UAT, Production). Does anyone have any suggestions for minimizing the changes needed to the config file when moving between environments as well as minimizing the duplication of data in the config file? It's mostly Application settings rather than User settings. The way I'm doing it at the moment is something similar to this: <DevConnectionString>xyz</DevConnectionString> <DevInboundPath>xyz</DevInboundPath> <DevProcessedPath>xyz</DevProcessedPath> <UatConnectionString>xyz</UatConnectionString> <UatInboundPath>xyz</UatInboundPath> <UatProcessedPath>xyz</UatProcessedPath> ... <Environment>Dev</Environment> And then I have a class that reads in the Environment setting via the My.Settings class (it's VB project) and then uses that to decide what other settings to retrieve. This leads to too much duplication though so I'm not sure if it's worth it.

  Hello, I'd like to serialize some simple data model into xml, I've been using the standard java.org.w3c -related code (see below), the indentation is better than no "OutputKeys.INDENT", yet there is one little thing that remains - proper indentation for child elements. I know that this has been asked before on stackoverflow , yet that configuration did not work for me, this is the code I'm using : DocumentBuilderFactory factory = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance(); DocumentBuilder builder = factory.newDocumentBuilder(); Document doc = builder.newDocument(); doc = addItemsToDocument(doc); // The addItemsToDocument method adds childElements to the document. • Perl Module from relative path not working in IIS6

  Disclaimer: I am not a PERL developer and am learning by the seat of my pants. I am using a Perl module called from a CGI scipt in IIS 6 that is bombing. The identical folder structure on an XP machine (IIS 5.1) works fantastic. If I remove the module loading command at line 9, it will print "about to load" and "ok", but When I try to run use Language::Guess; I receive The specified CGI application misbehaved by not returning a complete set of HTTP headers. in the browser. The folder structure is /cgi-bin/test.pl /PerlModules/Language/Guess.pm I have tried adjusting the file/folder permissions and have reviewed my IIS configuration time and again. It runs fine from the command line on the IIS machine or if I copy the module into \Perl\site\lib, but I don't have permission to load modules on the shared server this script is destined for. Am I missing something simple? • Java Random Slowdowns on Mac OS cont'd

  I asked this question a few weeks ago, but I'm still having the problem and I have some new hints. The original question is here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1651887/java-random-slowdowns-on-mac-os Basically, I have a java application that splits a job into independent pieces and runs them in separate threads. The threads have no synchronization or shared memory items. The only resources they do share are data files on the hard disk, with each thread having an open file channel. Most of the time it runs very fast, but occasionally it will run very slow for no apparent reason. If I attach a CPU profiler to it, then it will start running quickly again. If I take a CPU snapshot, it says its spending most of its time in "self time" in a function that doesn't do anything except check a few (unshared unsynchronized) booleans. I don't know how this could be accurate because 1, it makes no sense, and 2, attaching the profiler seems to knock the threads out of whatever mode they're in and fix the problem. Also, regardless of whether it runs fast or slow, it always finishes and gives the same output, and it never dips in total cpu usage (in this case ~1500%), implying that the threads aren't getting blocked. I have tried different garbage collectors, different sizings the parts of the memory space, writing data output to non-raid drives, and putting all data output in threads separate the main worker threads. Does anyone have any idea what kind of problem this could be? Could it be the operating system (OS X 10.6.2) ? I have not been able to duplicate it on a windows machine, but I don't have one with a similar hardware configuration.

• POST xml to php with apache2

  I'm working on an application that receives XML data via POST, processes it with a PHP script, and returns an XML response. I'm getting the XML with this PHP code: $requestStr = file_get_contents('php://input'); $requests = simplexml_load_string($requestStr); which works fine on the Linux-based product hardware using nginx as the server. However, for testing I'd like to be able to run it on my MacBook Pro, so I can avoid the "build image, install on product, reboot product, wait, test change" loop while I do targeted development on this XML processor. I enabled "web sharing" which starts up Apache, added a rewrite rule to point a convenient URI at my development source directory and used curl to send a request to my PHP script thus: curl -H "Content-Type:text/xml" -d @request.xml http://localhost/test/path/testscript "testscript" is handled by the PHP script fine, but when it goes to read "php:://input" I get nothing -- the empty string. Anyone have a clue why this would work under Linux with nginx and not under MacOS with Apache? I've googled and searched stackoverlow.com to no avail. Thanks for any answers. UPDATE: I've discovered that at least in this configuration, reading from php://stdin will work fine, while php://input will not. Who knew?

• should the builder reset its build environment after delivering the product

  I am implementing a builder where in the deliverable is retrieved by calling Builder::getProduct() . The director asks various parts to build Builder::buildPartA() , Builder::buildPartB() etc. in order to completely build the product. My question is, once the product is delivered by the Builder by calling Builder::getProduct(), should it reset its environment (Builder::partA = NULL;, Builder::partB = NULL;) so that it is ready to build another product? (with same or different configuration?) I ask this as I am using PHP wherein the objects are by default passed by reference (nope, I don't want to clone them, as one of their field is a Resource) . However, even if you think from a language agnostic point of view, should the Builder reset its build environment ? If your answer is 'it depends on the case' what use cases would justify reseting the environment (and other way round) ? • Log4net RollingFileAppender doesn't roll over anymore after a couple of weeks

  Hello, I'm using log4net (v1.2.9.0) in a web project. Everything works like a charm, but after a couple of weeks the RollingFileAppender stops to roll over. Instead every log message is appended to the same file which therefore has a giant size by now. • Trying to use a grails domain class from the shell

  I'm new to Grails. I'm trying to experiement with my grails domains from the shell, and I can't get it to work. These domains work fine from the scaffold code when I run the app. Given this domain class class IncomingCall { String caller_id Date call_time int call_length static constraints = { } } I try to create an "IncomingCall" and save it from the shell. No matter what I do, I always get "Null"; the object isn't created. And if I try to create the object and then do a save, I get the "No hibernate session bound to thread" error (see below). groovy:000> new IncomingCall(caller_id:'555-1212', call_time: new Date(), call_length:10).save() ERROR org.hibernate.HibernateException: No Hibernate Session bound to thread, and configuration does not allow creation of non-transactional one here at org.springframework.orm.hibernate3.SpringSessionContext.currentSession (SpringSessionContext.java:63) at org.hibernate.impl.SessionFactoryImpl.getCurrentSession (SessionFactoryImpl.java:574) at groovysh_evaluate.run (groovysh_evaluate:3) ... groovy:000> How can I make this work from the shell?

• Is XMLReader a SAX parser, a DOM parser, or neither?

  I am testing various methods to read (possibly large, and very often) XML configuration files in PHP. No writing is ever needed. I have two successful implementations, one using SimpleXML (which I know is a DOM parser) and one using XMLReader. I know that a DOM reader must read the whole tree and therefore uses more memory. My tests reflect that. I also know that A SAX parser is an "event-based" parser that uses less memory because it reads each node from the stream without checking what is next. XMLReader also reads from a stream with the cursor providing data about the node it is currently at. So, it definitely sounds like XMLReader (http://us2.php.net/xmlreader) is not a DOM parser, but my question is, is it a SAX parser, or something else? It seems like XMLReader behaves the way a SAX parser does but does not throw the events themselves (in other words, can you construct a SAX parser with XMLReader?) If it is something else, does the classification it's in have a name?

  I'm trying to write validation rules for my data objects in a WPF application. I'm writing them in the configuration file, and so far they are working fine. I'm stumped on how to localize the messages using messageTemplateResourceName and messageTemplateResourceType. What I know is that the strings can be writen in a resource file, given a name and referenced by that name. I have tried writing the messages in the shell project's resource file but no sucess trying to retrieve the value. I only get the default built-in message. I've tried messageTemplateResourceType="typeof(Resources)" messageTemplateResourceType="Resources" messageTemplateResourceType="Resources.resx" messageTemplateResourceType="typeof(Shell)" messageTemplateResourceType="Shell" messageTemplateResourceType="Shell, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null" I've also tried adding a new resource file in the shell project, and adding a resource file to the data object's library. I'm all out of ideas Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm not even married to the idea of resource files, so if there are other ways to localize these messages I'd love to know! thanks

• Logback: What would cause DEBUG - WARN to append to file but NOT ERROR?

  I am running a Java program from Eclipe, and I am using the logback console plugin. I can see the ERROR level statements being appended to console (as well as all of the others). But for some reason my file, which is correctly recieving new DEBUG-WARN statements, is NOT recieving the ERROR level ones. • Emulating Visual Studio's Web Application "publish" at the command line

  Hi, I am trying to automate my deployment process and am now thoroughly confused. I know that there are many questions on stackoverflow about this, but they all have different solutions and none of them work. I have a Web Application project which I usually publish by right-clicking and selecting "Publish". I get a dialog box where I use the following options: Build configuration: Release Publish method: File system Target location: C:\Deployments\MyWebsite Replace matching files with local copies I should mention that in the properties of the project I have "Items to deploy" set to "Only files needed to run this application". After running this, my entire solution is built, dependencies are resolved, build events are run, web.config transformations are applied and the website is copied to C:\Deployments\MyWebsite, although non-required files such as code-behind files are not copied. I have not been able to replicate this... in fact at this stage I'm not even sure which command line tool am I supposed to be using - msbuild, msdeploy or aspnet_compiler? This guy asks almost the same question but his solution doesn't work at all. For example, build events do not run correctly because the macros are not resolved. Whats more, the files do not get copied into the correct directory at all... I can't even begin to explain what happens!
