• Trying to find a recent - PHP book - that utilizes SOLID principles! [closed]

  Pulling my hair out! I have heard of Martin Fowler's book PoEAA and the other book Head First OOA OOD but those are not in PHP. I desperately want to read them, but ONLY in PHP utilizing the - SOLID acronym - principles! Does anyone know of the absolute best, most recent PHP book that utilizes the SOLID principles and GRASP, and all the other best practices? I want to learn from the best possible source! Not beginner books! I already understand OOP. This seems like an almost impossible question to find the answer to and so I thought, hey, might as well post on stackexchange!! Surely someone out there must know!!!!!!!!!! Or if noone happens to know, Maybe they know of an open source application that utilizes these principles that is relatively small that is not a framework. Something that I can go through every single class, and spend time understanding the insides and outs of how the program was developed. Thanks so much in advance! • Websocket & HTTP proxy with server between two firewalls

  I have a server ("A") running behind a firewall, which serves HTTP and websockets. I have no control over the firewall, but do have an external server ("B") to which the internal server can connect (note that the reverse connection from B to A is not possible due to the firewall). How can I set up some sort of proxy on B such that an Internet client ("C") can access the resources on A? I'd prefer something lightweight—even a Python program or an SSH tunnel (which I've tried without success)—rather than something more heavyweight but robust.

• Windows global shortcut hijacked by Opera

  I have Chrome 37 installed as my main browser. Recently I needed to test a design in a new, Chromium based Opera version 21.0.1432.67. This later one hijacked my global shortcuts somehow, so if I press Ctrl+Shift+N to start a new session for testing, even if Chrome is running, and it is the active window, the shortcut starts a new Opera tab - even if the program is not running. It is highly annoying. Even if I uninstall Opera, I'm unable to use the aforementioned shortcut, because it will not work at all. Any hints on how to restore the original shortcut?

  Hi, Next year I will be doing a final year project at Uni. I've already thought of one and was wondering what you guys think of it. I want to create a University Information Search for prospective students who are trying to look for an affordable University to attend. It will depend on the student's family income and the grades they get. They enter in those two parameters (and some more) and it comes up with a list of suitable Unis based on their criteria. This is not about the price of tution fee. It's mostly to do with the cost of living. Stuff like: Rent (if living in a private flat). Student Accomadation. Cost of traveling to your home and back (for holidays). ...and some other stuff stuff I haven't thought about yet. It'll mostly be GUI driven with some textual information. I'm also thinking of using it as a website interface. What do you guys think? Can I program something like this Java? If there's any holes you see in my idea please tell me.

• Is using the student version of 3DS Max and Unity3d legal?

  I am developing an indie game together with my friend using Unity3D engine. I bought "Silo 3D" for modeling two month ago and for texturing I use 3D coat. We plan to sell our game in the future. For the animations I work with 3DS max (only animation part). My question is, can I work with a students license? The license for the original version is too expensive for me. I am still at the university and I can not buy the 3DS Max license which costs 4000 €. As an alternative I have the choice beetween Blender (can´t work with this software and don't have time to invest for learning a new program) and Truespace (can´t export fbx animation and specially with bones) so for me, 3DS Max is the best choice to be effective and quick. Is it possible to prove it when I export my fbx characters from 3DS Max to Unity3D? I mean can they find out that I have used the students license of 3DS Max for the animations after the release of the game? Maybe with help of DRM? Can I solve that problem when I export the fbx from 3DS Max to Blender and after that export the same fbx to Unity3D?

  Im automating my mac installation using 'puppet'. as a part of it I need to install several programs that come in a .dmg format. I use the following to mount them: sudo /usr/bin/hdiutil mount -plist -nobrowse -readonly -quiet -mountrandom /tmp Program.dmg The problem is that some .dmg files come with a license attached, and so script is stuck accepting the license. (there is no stdin/out when running with puppet, so I can't manually approve it to continue). Is there a way to pre-approve or force-approve the license?

• Ubuntu 12.04 Precise on Dell Inspirion Duo

  I installed 12.04 version of Ubuntu on my Dell Inspiron Duo. After installing with help of program like UNetBootIn or smth like that. ( Besides i have no problem with kernel panic on chargin on/off like in 11.10. ) After that i followed with steps from here, in the first post here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1658635 There left one big problem with touchscreen: When i whant to drag with touchscreen like i`m doing it with mouse (for ex. selecting multile files with mouse) the selectable rectangular doesnot shows while im dragging, when dragging was finished (i put my finger off) it shows the rectangular and hides it. This thing disables all my tries to drag a window or smth else.... Also some time after using touchscreen such things are disabeling: - Often - click from a mouse (after keyboard using functinality restores) - less often - mouse movement disables (sometimes restores sometimes not) - lesser than other - keyboards works but no sygnals accepting (keyoards has indicator, so thay react, mouse of course not) The test from eTouchU utility passes perfeclty. Any idia for solving this problem? P.S.: Im from Ukraine, so sorry if my possible grammar mistakes. P.P.S.: Besides how to know the physicall position of my tabled mode? For automaticall rotating. Like on each rotation do some script.

• Allow WRITE access to local folders machine in 2003SBS AD

  Have a SBS2003 client with a mess of a domain that is in process of being cleaned. But, for the life of me I cannot find a setting that will allow write access to the local hard disk for domain users with redirected profiles(to the server). This is needed only for one program that will not follow a symbolic link to the network path, instead it seems to be hard coded to the %appdata% folder but only on the c: drive.... So question is how can I allow "Domain users" write access to the local %appdata% directory? I have tried setting it manually on a machine but it kept resetting to RO no matter how many times I tried. Every time I would un-check the RO property it would reset sometime right after i hit OK. • Lotus Notes "Format painter" or Quick access to fonts.

  I got Lotus Notes 7.0.3 at my job and I miss the "format painter" to copy the style in my mails. Does it exist? If not, the biggest problems I got are when I paste text form another program. The style is imported and I don't like that. I got to search for the "Default sans serif" font (witch is somewhere in the middle of the font list, another annoying thing). Basically, I use "Default sans serif" for text and "Default Monospace" for code. Is there a way to put them at the top of the font list of to get a quick access to them, or maybe in a toolbar or something?

• Programs still opening websites through Google Chrome, despite its removal

  Even after I've uninstalled Google Chrome, when other programs want to open a website (e.g.: Yahoo! Messenger getting a profile) they will still attempt to do so through Chrome, and fail looking for it. I've read all the advice on how to make Firefox or IE for Windows 7 the default browser. I don't think Google would do this sort of "hijack the default browser" thing and I'm convinced it must be a trojan or virus or even a registry hack. If so, any ideas on how I would go about fixing this without purchasing every virus/trojan program until it was removed? That method could be an expensive fix.

• Accessing local files through an http:// address

  I would like to access a folder of mp3 files on my local Windows machine through http:// addresses. For example, typing http://localhost:9999/songs/test.mp3 into my browser would play test.mp3, which sits in a specified folder on my C: drive. What is the very simplest way to do this? (Background: a program I'm using wants me to enter the URLs of these files, but assumes they are remote and accessed over http. It doesn't accept URLs of the form file://C/Users.... So, I'd like to give these local files addresses that makes them "look" remote.)

• Finding a mentor online [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: How to find programming mentor? I'm a programming intern, but I want to "transition" into a product manager role after graduation. I just know that I will never be a super A++ Rockstar programmer, but from my internship I know that I can be a great program manager..one of those presumably rare people who can code well (enough)/speak programmer-ese and management-ese. Being a girl, I am looking for both male and female mentors. Female, because they know what its like to be a minority, and male, because..well, you guys are tough, and I believe to succeed in tech, a girl's gotta know how to act like a man (when appropriate). I've found some really amazing people I'd like to ask to be my mentor (in blogs, magazines, etc), but sadly, I live far, far away from them. Will be awkward/rude if I shoot them an email about being a mentor? What is the best way to establish a relationship with people like these that I admire? • How to verify that all files are intact prior to install?

  I'm working on my CMS (in PHP platform) for a long time now. The main program is done and I'm currently developing the Installer part. Installation itself will be fairly simple: Upload all files Verify that the "content/" dir has correct permissions Check if ALL files are intact and not modified [This is the subject of this question] Insert the config data and first settings Run install (Generate all DB tables and insert sample data etc.) Now the question-mark is at step 3. How do I verify ALL files? Verification itself should compare all CMS root-directories files against a list from remote location. List should contain filename, filesize and filetype. This way the user can check, that there are no unnecessary or corrupted files, that could indicated a breach in the software. I have seen some software installers do that, but I cannot find any right now and there for I'm clueless on the most optimal method for this. Of course there always is a simple array trick, but there surely must be a better and faster method?!

• Can I directly open an MMF Cash Drawer through RJ-11 port?

  My aunt bought this cash drawer at an auction recently and has tasked me with figuring how to open it via a computer. We have the key (pictured) and can open it manually, but I'd like to be able to plug it directly into a computer and open it via some sort of program or script. It has a built in rj-11 cord coming out of the back of it. Initial research shows that it might usually be used with a printer, but I want to be able to connect it directly to the computer.   Oracle OpenWorld Shanghai 2013 was held July 22nd – 25th at the International Expo Center in Shanghai, China. The conference drew over 19,000 attendees from 44 countries. In addition, 580 CxOs attended the Executive Edge program, and 430+ partners attended the Oracle Partner Network Exchange. The conference included a number of sessions on Big Data, Business Analytics, Business Intelligence and Enterprise Performance Management delivered by Oracle, our partners and customers.  I had the pleasure to attend the conference and delivered three sessions focused on Oracle’s Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) applications. Each of my sessions was well-attended, and in a few cases was standing room only, so there is clearly a lot of interest in the China market in EPM. The EPM and BI demo pods in the DemoGrounds at the conference also received a lot of traffic. In addition to the conference sessions I delivered, I had several meetings with customers and partners in Shanghai.These sessions and meetings I attended made clear the interest that customers in China have in improving their planning, management reporting, financial reporting, and profitability management processes.   Is there a constraint-based scheduling/calendar application? This application would be used to coordinate multiple people's schedules. Two basic use cases: Multiple people need to schedule a time to meet together. Everyone is busy at different days/times. Each person enters blocks of days/times they cannot meet, and the application suggests the best times to meet given a desired time range. Multiple people need to use some common resources for a specific length of time (over some time span like a week), but the exact date/time does not matter. These people enter the resources and time needed, and the application suggests the best way to share these resources. This use case still accounts for people's blocks of busy time. I imagine this program would be graphical, but other interfaces would be acceptable. Also preferable if web-based/works on both PC's and Mac's, but PC-only/Mac-only solutions are acceptable.

• Canadian English on Apple products

  Apple is an American company. As many of you probably know, Canadian English is different from American English, and closer to British English (e.g. colour instead of color). I use iWork and Microsoft Office for Mac (along with many other applications on OS X), and OS X, nor my iPhone, have an option to switch to Canadian English. Yes, you can select Canadian English as an input language in the language bar, but any program that uses the central OS X spell checking (from Mail to Office to iWork to Chrome) will check words against an American English dictionary. I know asking a question that involves an iPhone component is borderline off-topic, but I know on my iPhone I can select British English, but that turns my $ into £ and has a few other weird spelling quirks. Simple question: Is it possible to make OS X (and maybe the iPhone) use a Canadian English dictionary for its spell checking? Because British English just doesn't cut it anymore. Thanks!

• Do you know of an online back up & sync solution for Windows that actually works?

  I've been looking for some time for a program that backups your data to the cloud and is also able to sync 2 or more computers. By syncing I mean, if I change something on one computer that it should also apply the same change on another computer. I've tried two solutions so far which looked good initially but ultimately failed because they were buggy or simply don't work, or both. Syncplicity has messed up my file structure several times and they don't fix fix bugs that are literally over a year old. I then switched to SpiderOak which looked promising but ultimately had the same problems. Messed up my file structure several times, sometimes sync simply doesn't work, it's extremely inefficient and they keep pushing out releases were they say they fixed the sync bugs I reported but they did't. Does anyone of you know of an online sync solution that actually works?

• How to quickly start Programs like "regedit.exe" from the Windows 7 search bar using substring match

  The search bar in Windows 7 is very convenient to quickly start applications by pressing the Win-key and then entering the name of the application. For applications with a Program Menu entry like Firefox, it is sufficient to type Fire and Firefox will be displayed in the Programs section of the search results. For other applications like regedit.exe, I have to type the full command regedit before the correct choice regedit.exe appears. Is there any way to have regedit.exe appear already when I have just entered a substring? Please note: I have seen Add my applications to Vista’s Start Search, but I don't want to add anything to the Start Menu manually. This question is about if there is some configuration that can be tuned to make the results appear. I have also seen Search behavior of Windows 7 start menu, but my problem is not that the exe appears under Files, regedit.exe correctly appears under Programs, but it should appear already for a substring match.

I never had to use this format before. I went on ubuntu fourm they told me to use vlc media. I am using vlc media. mplayer, it still have error with that, sounds and video. • How to change the audio output device in Firefox or any other modern browser?

  I'm trying to play music through Ventrilo and currently I use Virtual Audio Cable. The way it works is that in foobar2000 (a music playing program) I set the output device in preferences to Virtual Audio Cable. Then in Ventrilo I log in to another name and set the input device to Virtual Audio Cable. This routes the music through the Virtual Audio Cable and allows me to play the music through Ventrilo. However, I would also like to change the output device for Firefox (or any other browser) or "Plugin Container for Firefix" to Virtual Audio Cable so that I could play music from Pandora or YouTube on to Ventrilo. Unfortunately I could not find an option for this anywhere.

• How do you get past the Analysis to Paralysis when working on a new project?

  I've been struggling with how to get my project going. I've got an old software package that is in need of desparate rewrite. I haven't compiled the source code since 2004. It still sells, it's stable but does require the “Run this program in compatibility mode for:” on a lot of the newer windows systems. It's also one of those hard coded 640 X 480 screen resolution programs. Yuck! I can't seem to get started with this rewrite. I'm constantly fiddling around with different things. I'll play around with different fluid layouts for a while. Then I start looking around at how the main menu should work/look. I quickly find out that there's this thing called "Cool Bars" and I'll spend hours playing with that. Then I start thinking about stuff like "Oh I need to make sure that the screen sizes are preserved so when the application gets relaunched it remebers how the screens were positioned." Which leads to what happens if they have two monitors? Which leads to what happens if they have a quad screen? Yikes it's got to stop. I have always been a slow starter. I think about stuff long and hard up front. This has always plagued me. Once I get my mind made up then bam... I'm off and running. I'm looking for advice from some other one-person software companies that can help someone like me get off to a quicker start?
