• Visual Studio 2005 - strange characters rendered for ANSI text

  Hi all, Has anyone seen this odd text rendering issue in VS2005 before? The first line of using statements actually says "using System;". If I copy the line as it is displayed and paste into notepad, the text appears correctly, so clearly the character codes are correct. In addition, the solution compiles and runs correctly. I was thinking it might be due to ClearCase using a different character encoding as all the solutions we're using were freshly checked-out yesterday on to a new build machine, but this is only happening in 2 of our ~30 solutions. Incidentally the same .cs files when opened in VS2008 render correctly on this machine, could this be a corruption in VS2005?

• What /else/ causes this?

  MFC Toolbox Library.lib(SimpleFileIO.obj) : error LNK2005: _wcsnlen already defined in libcmtd.lib(wcslen_s.obj) fatal error LNK1169: one or more multiply defined symbols found This is driving me nuts. Normally, one would get this if the various projects that are a part of their solution do not agree on which CRT to use (single threaded, multi-threaded, release or debug). However, I have been over this thing about 500 times now, and they all agree. Background: this is a VS 2010 project just converted from VS 2008. MFC Toolbox Library.lib is set to compile as a static library, using /MTd, as is the target .exe I am trying to compile in this solution. Further, the solution that this is being converted from (VS 2008) already compiles & links properly!!! So it's not like that there is a disagreement between the two .vcproj's - or at least there wasn't before the conversion. Furthermore, the MFC Toolbox Library is used by about 25 other projects in another solution - and in that solution (Master Build English) it compiles & links against those other projects without complaint in both debug and release targets. I have just spent the last hour going over every single project property for this target project (Cimex Header Viewer) vs. several different target exe projects in Master Build English solution - and I cannot find a difference. They appear to be identical, excepting that they're different names. I've tried doing a clean & build all. I'm simply out of ideas. Does anyone have a thought on what else I might investigate??? I think I'm ready to start chewing glass. :(

• OpenGL index buffer object with additional data

  I have a large set of lines, which I render from a vertex buffer object using glMultiDrawArrays(GL_LINE_STRIP, ...); This works perfectly well. Now I have lots of vertex pairs which I also have to visualize. Every pair consists of two vertices on two different lines, and the distance between the vertices is small. However, I like to have the ability to draw a line between all vertex pairs with a distance less than a certain value. What I like to have is something like a buffer object with the following structure: i1, j1, r1, i2, j2, r2, i3, j3, r3, ... where the i's and j's are indices pointing to vertices and the r's are the distances between those vertices. Thus every vertex pair is stored as a (i, j, r) tuple. Then I like to have a (vertex) shader which only draws the vertex pairs with r < SOME_VALUE as a line. So my question is, what is the best way to achieve this?

• Compiling C Source with Makefile in Windows

  I'm trying to compile a downloaded program in Windows. The program is usually run in Linux, but is programmed to also run in Windows (the code has #if defined(_WIN32)'s in it, and claims to work with borland free tools). When I try to use make from the command line, it tells me "Incorrect command line argument: -C". In the makefile, there are many lines that say "make -C" followed by a directory name. Does this syntax not work in Windows? What is a correct way to do this? Is there any way to compile this for native use in Windows with this makefile?

• How to search for a string including spaces in Objective C?

  I have a real basic command-line program, in Objective-C, that searches for user inputed information. Unfourtunately, the code will only read the first word in series of words that the user enters. For example, if the user enters in "Apples are great", only "Apples" is kept (and hence searched later on), excluding the "are great" part of the sentence.   Hi, I have a script and I'm almost done but I get this error and frankly I have no idea what is wrong here. I'm rather new to Javascript so I suspect I did something wrong in the syntax somewhere. • O(N log N) Complexity - Similar to linear?

  Hey All, So I think I'm going to get buried for asking such a trivial but I'm a little confused about something. I have implemented quicksort in Java and C and I was doing some basic comparissons. The graph came out as two straight lines, with the C being 4ms faster than the Java counterpart over 100,000 random integers. The code for my tests can be found here; android-benchmarks I wasn't sure what an (n log n) line would look like but I didn't think it would be straight. I just wanted to check that this is the expected result and that I shouldn't try to find an error in my code. I stuck the formula into excel and for base 10 it seems to be a straight line with a kink at the start. Is this because the difference between log(n) and log(n+1) increases linearly? Thanks, Gav

  Hi, I've stumbled in a problem handling the \line-feed and \carriage-return characters in xml. I know that, according to http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-xml/#sec-line-ends, xml processors are required to replace any "\n\r" or lone "\r" sequences with "\n". The specification states that this has to be the behaviour for handling any "external parsed entity", does this apply to CDATA sections inside of an element as well? thank you, Michele I'm sure that msxml library for example converts every \n\r" or lone "\r" sequences to "\n", regardless of their being in a cdata section or not.

I have tried initializing a variable in the index method of the books controller but get exactly the same results. Thanks in advance! BTW had to make the links text because of stackoverflow limit.

  Hello, I am writing a CUDA kernel to create a 3x3 covariance matrix for each location in the rows*cols main matrix. So that 3D matrix is rows*cols*9 in size, which i allocated in a single malloc accordingly. I need to access this in a single index value the 9 values of the 3x3 covariance matrix get their values set according to the appropriate row r and column c from some other 2D arrays. In other words - I need to calculate the appropriate index to access the 9 elements of the 3x3 covariance matrix, as well as the row and column offset of the 2D matrices that are inputs to the value, as well as the appropriate index for the storage array. i have tried to simplify it down to the following: //I am calling this kernel with 1D blocks who are 512 cols x 1row.   I'm trying to extract the number '1' that appears on the line with the ID I'm feeding (i.e. 12072). I've been trying for the past 2 hours to get this regex to work but I'm at a loss. So far I've got 12072.*?(\d+)(?!.*\d) but this extracts me everything from 12072 to the 1. Here's the text: <td id="12072" scope="#999999" bgcolor="#999999" style="width: 65; color:#999999" align="center" onclick="DaySelect(this)" title="">1</td> <td id="12073" scope="#999999" bgcolor="#999999" style="width: 65; color:#999999" align="center" onclick="DaySelect(this)" title="">1</td> How can I match just the number 1 from the end of the line of the specified ID, surely there's a way to do this? Using the following grep command, I am able to extract all the lines which have a valid 'DisplayName' field grep DisplayName="[0-9A-Za-z[:space:]]*" e:\test However, I wish to extract just the name (ie "john") from each line instead of the whole line which is returned by grep. I tried pipelining the output to the cut command but it does not accept string delimiters.

  I am trying to loop through an existing table (tblSalesOrder) and I need to run through every line (where they relate to that particular customer) and write each line into an SQL statement and execute it. What is the easiest way to go about this procedure? The number of lines will need to be counted prior to data being written via SQL to a QuickBooks database. I can code something similar in php using the code below, but I am unsure how to convert this into a VBA friendly format: $sql_count = "SELECT count(*) FROM tblSalesOrder WHERE Customer='cust_number'"; execute_query($sql_count) When the above value is greater than 0, the vba code should loop through the queries.   I'm attempting to provide a confirmation link in my user welcome email and I'm getting the following Rails error: Need controller and action! It makes a fuss about this line: <p>Please take a moment to activate your account by going to: <%= link_to confirm_user_url(:id => @user.confirmation_code) %>.</p> In my development.rb environment, I have the following line: config.action_mailer.default_url_options = { :host => "localhost", :port => 3000 } There's no problem with the @user variable. I've tested the email with things like @user.username and @user.confirmation_code. I'm only getting trouble with url_for and named routes like confirm_user_url. When I check my routes with rake routes, confirm_user shows up, so it's not an issue with the named route not existing. I can't seem to figure it out. What gives?

• Is there a faster way to draw text?

  Shark complains about a big performance hit with this line, which takes like 80% of CPU time. I have a counter that is updated very frequently and performance seriously sucks. It's an custom UILabel subclass with -drawRect: implemented. Every time the counter value changes, this is used to draw the new text: [self.text drawInRect:textRect withFont:correctedFont lineBreakMode:self.lineBreakMode alignment:self.textAlignment]; When I comment this line out, performance rocks. Its smooth and fast. So Shark isn't wrong about this. But what could I do to improve this? Maybe go a level deeper? Does that make any sense? Probably drawing text is really so incredible heavy...?

• File upload fails when user is authenticated. Using IIS7 Integrated mode.

  These are the user identities my website tells me that it uses: Logged on: NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE (Can not write any files at all) and Not logged on: WSW32\IUSR_77 (Can write files to any folder) I have a ASP.NET 4.0 website on a shared hosting IIS7 web server running in Integrated mode with 32-bit applications support enabled and MSSQL 2008. Using classic mode is not an option since I need to secure some static files and I use Routing. In my web.config file I have set the following: <system.webServer> <modules runAllManagedModulesForAllRequests="true" /> </system.webServer> My hosting company says that Impersonation is enabled by default on machine level, so this is not something I can change. I asked their support and they referred me to this article: http://www.codinghub.net/2010/08/differences-between-integrated-mode-and.html Citing this part: Different windows identity in Forms authentication When Forms Authentication is used by an application and anonymous access is allowed, the Integrated mode identity differs from the Classic mode identity in the following ways: * ServerVariables["LOGON_USER"] is filled. * Request.LogognUserIdentity uses the credentials of the [NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE] account instead of the [NT AUTHORITY\INTERNET USER] account. This behavior occurs because authentication is performed in a single stage in Integrated mode. Conversely, in Classic mode, authentication occurs first with IIS 7.0 using anonymous access, and then with ASP.NET using Forms authentication. Thus, the result of the authentication is always a single user-- the Forms authentication user. AUTH_USER/LOGON_USER returns this same user because the Forms authentication user credentials are synchronized between IIS 7.0 and ASP.NET. A side effect is that LOGON_USER, HttpRequest.LogonUserIdentity, and impersonation no longer can access the Anonymous user credentials that IIS 7.0 would have authenticated by using Classic mode. How do I set up my website so that it can use the proper identity with the proper permissions? I've looked high and low for any answers regarding this specific problem, but found nil so far... I hope you can help!
