  • Tmp issues with java service on windows 2008 service

    Hello! I am having a rather nasty problem with windows 2008 server. We have a java application that is running as a service using the local services user. The problem is this user does not have access to read/write to the specified java tmp directory (specified by the system). This means that every time the application tries to create a tmp file an IOException is thrown. Is there any way to make a java application that need access to the tmp directory run as a service without: Creating a new user specifically for the purspose Specifying a new tmp directory (which you will have to clean up yourself)

  • How do I decrease first load time in ASP.net MVC 2?

    I have an ASP.net MVC 2 application that runs well locally. However when I move the files to my production server, I get a first time lag of about 30 seconds, I assume this is a first compile. After that the application works fine. Then after about 20-30 minutes of non use, the applications takes another 30 seconds or so to load. I did try to precompile the code, but there is still a lag during the first load. Are there any trick to getting the application to work faster on the first load? I am using ASP.net 3.5, IIS 6 , visual studio 2010, MVC 2. Thanks

  • FB.logout not working in IE8

    I've integrated facebook login with my application and I want to logout the user from facebook when he logs out of my application. So I did the following: <a href="<c:url value='/security_logout'/>" onclick="FB.logout();">Logout</a> This works on Firefox and Chrome but doesn't work on IE8. In IE8 the user is logged out of the application but is not logged out of Facebook. Anyone else experiencing this?

  • Intercept windows open file

    Hello, I'm trying to make a small program that could intercept the open process of a file. The purpose is when an user double-click on a file in a given folder, windows would inform to the software, then it process that petition and return windows the data of the file. Maybe there would be another solution like monitoring Open messages and force Windows to wait while the program prepare the contents of the file. One application of this concept, could be to manage desencryption of a file in a transparent way to the user. In this context, the encrypted file would be on the disk and when the user open it ( with double-click on it or with some application such as notepad ), the background process would intercept that open event, desencrypt the file and give the contents of that file to the asking application. It's a little bit strange concept, it could be like "Man In The Middle" network concept, but with files instead of network packets. Thanks for reading.

    Is it always guaranteed that a multi-threaded application would run faster than a single threaded application? I have two threads that populates data from a data source but different entities (eg: database, from two different tables), seems like single threaded version of the application is running faster than the version with two threads. Why would the reason be? when i look at the performance monitor, both cpu s are very spikey ? is this due to context switching? what are the best practices to jack the CPU and fully utilize it? I hope this is not ambiguous.

    Hi All, We're evaluating MySQL and PostgreSQL for building our indic language web application which will use MySQL or PostgreSQL. One of my colleagues mentioned that MySQL had issues with i18n. I mostly come from the Oracle world and although I've played a lil with MySQL, I don't know enough to know that there are issues with its i18n support. Does anyone know issues with MySQL's i18n support and if PostgreSQL would be better placed for building an application with indic language support(kannada, telugu, tamil, etc) ? Just so you know, we're going to be using J2EE to build this application and we will be using JDBC drivers to access the DB. P.S : Will anything change if we were to use Rails to build the app instead of J2EE ? Thank you,

    I have an Ajaxable application which has some UpdateProgress for each postBack events. everything is good and working great. I want to display another Indicator in my SiteMapPath bar which shows a post back is happening no matter what. For example when user clicks on a button an UpdateProgress display an Indicator Image in central part of application. I want to display another image ( for every postbacks not only for one) in top of application toolbar.     I am developing an iPhone application for jail broken phones and in this application I would like to fetch user's phone number. I have gone through the entire stackoverflow.com and found some relevant answers but all of them are obsolete and doesn't work with iOS 4.0 anymore. The most famous solution for this problem is NSString *num = [[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] stringForKey:@"SBFormattedPhoneNumber"]; but as I mentioned this solution no more works with iOS 4.0 As my application is intended towards the jail broken phones and not intended the Apple app store so I am not worried about my app rejection, hence any private API will also work for me. Also please let me know if we can fetch IMSI number from SIM using any private APIs of iPhone

    I am working on my Office PC I dont have, I dont not have Admin rights to download IE8 in my PC..currently I am working in asp.net mvc application with IE6 Browser..some of the things are not working in IE6 for my application, can any body explain me what is the Differnce between IE6 and IE8 for web application, is there any chance that if the web pages are not showing correctly in IE6 it wil show in IE8? Ex: I used Microsoft Charting Controls to dispaly Pie chart for my applciation. the pie chart displaying in Firefox but not in IE6 Ex: some of the checkbox check events not working in IE6 but its working with Firefox. what is the good way to test wihout instaling IE8 on my PC? is there any tools are there? any documents to refer these stuff..? thanks

    Hi I have seen a few posts regarding Session and using target blank to open a new page. But I still don´t get it. Im working with an application which opens from a link on an Intranet site. I guess it uses target blank to get it in a new window. (I don´t have the source). If both windows are closed (My application and the Intranet site) it seems like the Session is destroyed. I need that to happen when my application is closed. (ie, still leaving the Intranet site open). If I use the site in my testenvironment without opening it from a page with target blank, it seems like I get the expected behaviour. Web.config has: pages enableSessionState="true" Thanks

  • chained msi's/Bootstrapper/prerequisite?

    I have a few component msi packages that need to installed together to form the end application. The problem is: the components that make up the package can be updated and the component relaunched on the http file server.What approach should i take? The installer that i am writing is the 'master' installer. Which needs to be able to read what version of each component is installed on ther client machine in order to perform an upgrade only on that one component. Also if the application is installed for the first time the installer will download and install all required components. I am using Installshield 2009. I have looked into chained MSI's but the master installer is empty. as it needs to be as lightweight as possible. I have no idea how to write a bootstrapper application and my company perfers that i use installshield to write the installer. I have researched - and apparently pre-requisites are not meant to be uninstalled.

  • Is there a way of combining Ogre3d's Hikari and BlazeDS?

    I am trying to load a swf into an Ogre3d/Hikari application and that swf uses BlazeDS to communicate with a Tomcat server. The swf is from another project that is used in a browser environment. So, the swf is served from Tomcat to the client's browswer. It seems like there are two main issues. The first is a sandbox issue with using the swf in a different sandbox type than a browser environment. The other issue seems to be setting up the BlazeDS message broker and the other communication channels and endpoints. As far as both of the issues are concerned, it seems like the Hikari application is similar to an Adobe Air application and can use similar approaches. Does this seem like a reasonable approach? Does anybody have any similar experiences? If so, how were things configured?

I have developped an application but when I want to start it in emulator, it takes about 2 hours to load it, and it's just the O/S! The application isn't started!     Hello everyone. I am using wxPython and Py2exe to create my application and my only problem is loading for example bitmaps. Ok so lets say I want to add an image to my application, and thats fairly easy using wxPython, and lets say it is on the same directory of my .py so for example: image = wx.StaticBitmap(self, -1, wx.Bitmap('image.bmp') Now, this works obviously fine, problem is when I convert to Py2exe, I would like to use the resources from the dlls that I included in the Py2Exe compilation. So basically what I want to do is to instead of including the images on the same folder as my application in order to work, I would like to use it from the resources so people won't see the images on the folder.

    In my 3.5 .net web application I have a background thread that does a lot of work (the application is similar to mint.com in that it does a lot of account aggregation on background threads). I do extensive exception handling within the thread performing the aggregation but there's always the chance an unhandled exception will be thrown and my entire application will die. I've read some articles about this topic but they all seem fairly outdated and none of them implement a standard approach. Is there a standard approach to this nowadays? Is there any nicer way to handle this in ASP.NET 4.0?

  • Comet with ASP.NET AsyncHttpHandlers

    I am implementing a comet using AsyncHttpHandlers in my current asp.net application. According to my implementation client initially sends Notification Hook request to server (with its user id) on AsyncHttpHandler, and on server side I maintain a Global (Application level) dictionary of userid(key) and IAynsResult (value). So when ever a request is received to send notification to a user I just pick the matching IAsyncResult from the Global Dictionary and send response to the client user. My concern is, is maintaing a Dictionary of Userid and IAsyncResult at Application level a good design? I feel it will put a lot of load on the server, at the time of high traffic. Is there any other way I can achieve the comet. or what will be the good design to achieve comet for high traffic scenarios.

The application in question is using wildcard mapping to allow for clean URLs since we are planning on upgrading to IIS 7.0 in the near future and we are also handling the caching and compression issues with a custom library so we would like to avoid turning wildcard mapping off unless absolutely necessary.
