• Windows 7 x64 Hard Freezing (again)

  Awhile ago, my computer was randomly freezing a few minutes after booting, and I ended up replacing the CPU and mobo after testing the RAM and hard drive, I also couldn't find anything wrong with the video card. So after replacing the presumably faulty hardware, everything worked fine for about a month and a half. All of a sudden, My computer is randomly freezing a few minutes after loading up any intensive application (games, mostly). Most of the time it just freezes with the current frame until I hard reset, although once it printed a BSOD message stating that dxgmms1.sys was to blame. The only difference between these two episodes I can think of is that I can do word/internet/work without issue now, as opposed to the near uselessness my computer was rendered last time. For those of you who want to know, I tested my memory with memtest86 (for 64 bit machines). I can't figure out what could have started this latest round of issues, the event logger just states that a kernel-power event has occurred (like last time) but I think thats just a generic "this machine has rebooted after a sudden shutdown" message.

• Scheduler with Asp Mvc

  Hi, I want to use a Scheduler like Telerik Scheduler in my Mvc project. The problem is that the Scheduler is a Asp.Net WebForm control. For this reason, I must create a WebForm page in my Mvc project to put the Scheduler control. When I show the page, it work fine to render the layout of the control but if I try to interact with it; click for change date, change to day view to week view, the control don't change. I know that postback doesn't work in mvc project but does it work in a WebForm page in a Mvc project? If it doesn't work, it is the reason why when I try to interact with the control, the control don't respond. I think it's because the postback don't work and the Scheduler use 100 % Databinding where when I change date, the postback don't contain any data that I have changed and for this reason, the control can't change is layout. Have you any ideas about postback with WebForm in mvc project? What type of design can I adopt? (Two differents projets: One for my Scheduler with WebForm and another for all the rest of my website in Mvc project) Any other control easily to use with Scheduler? Tips and tricks when needing both WebForm control and Mvc control in Mvc project? Thank you very much.

• iphone - grouping UIImageViews x blocking elements

  I have to rotate several UIImageViews around a specific center. To accomplish this I am using the famous trick of putting these views as subviews of a larger one and rotating that one. The problem is that these subviews have to detect touches, because each one has buttons on it. The hierarchy is like this LARGE_VIEW | |_____ imageView1 | |_________ button1 | |_________ button2 | |_________ button3 | |_____ imageView2 |_________ button4 |_________ button5 |_________ button6 etc So, to make buttons respond to tap, I had to make this; [LARGE_VIEW setUserInteractionEnabled:YES]; [imageView1 setUserInteractionEnabled:YES]; [imageView2 setUserInteractionEnabled:YES]; ImageView1 and 2 are two vertical rows of buttons on each side of the screen. The problem is that there's another view below LARGE_VIEW and this view is not receiving the taps, because LARGE_VIEW is intercepting them first. I don't need LARGE_VIEW to detect any taps except on the two areas where imageView 1 and 2 are. LARGE_VIEW must let pass taps on the area defined by this rect (52, 0, 768-2*52, 1024). ImageView1 and 2 have this size: 52 pixels wide and 1024 pixels high (iPad). ImageView1's rect is: (0, 0, 52, 1024) and ImageView2's rect is: (768-52, 0, 52, 1024) LARGE_VIEW must let pass taps on the area defined by this rect (52, 0, 768-2*52, 1024). How to solve that? I need LARGE_VIEW detect taps on each rect defined on my previous paragraph and pass these taps to its subviews and just let pass taps outside these rects to the app, so other views BELOW, can detect taps too. thanks.

• Publishing WCF .NET 3.5 to IIS 5.1

  I've been developing a WCF web service using .NET 3.5 with IIS7 and it works perfectly on my local computer. I tried publishing it to a server running IIS 5.1 and even though I can view the WSDL in my browser, the client application doesn't seem to be connecting to it correctly. I launched a packet sniffing app (Charles Proxy) and the response for the first message comes back to the client empty (0 bytes). Every message after the first one times out. The WCF service is part of a larger application that uses ASP .NET 3.5. That application has been working fine on IIS 5.1 for awhile now so I think it's something specific to WCF. I also tried throwing an exception in the SVC file to see if it made it that far and the exception never got thrown so I have a feeling it's something more low level that's not working. Any thoughts? Is there anything I need to install on the IIS5 server? If so how am I still able to view the WSDL in my browser?

• spurious hardware memory 'errors' on hp dl380 g5's being generated

  Hi All, i've got 2 new HP dl380g5 servers running HP's esxi4 patched to 219382. they have both been patched up to the latest hp firmware levels (firmware cd 8.7) both are running 32gb (4 x 8gb sticks) both servers are showing the same symptoms - the memory lights come on for two (random) dimms on the front of the server and the health led turns red. sometimes the server stays up and running with no problems. othertimes the server locks dead and only a power reset can bring it back. there is nothing showing in the ilo logs and nothing within the vmware hardware monitoring. the memory has been replaced i've got other customers that have been running dl380g5's with out any issues on esx3.5 - this is our first vsphere deployment with them. these are meant to go live soon so any advice would be great. thanks in advance.

• What does an ACPI BIOS configure during boot?

  When a PC boots with an ACPI BIOS, what does it exactly do? I understand that the point of ACPI is to allow the OS to control hardware resources and power management but before the OS is loaded does ACPI configure just the devices needed to boot and then let the OS configure the rest? If the OS wants to re-asign hardware resources does it store this information in the ACPI tables so that the next time the system is booted it assigns them how the OS wants? The ACPI driver asks the PCI bus driver (Pci.sys) to enumerate devices on it's bus once the OS is loaded, how are these devices configured whilst the PC is booting when it doesn't have other bus drivers? Any help with any of the above questions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  When I try to boot Ubuntu 11.04, it just hangs when it gets to checking battery state. I know this issue is usually related to graphic drivers, but it worked like a charm for months now. Last time I was on Ubuntu I updated my system with the update manager, so maybe an update caused it. Anyway, I really need Ubuntu. I'm in the middle of work on a website and I have a deadline, so I need some help over here. Thanks. p.s. I tried reinstalling gnome-power-manager. Didn't work. And I'm not on a laptop.

• How can I determine what is causing SQL Server 2008 Express to hang Windows 7?

  I have SQL Server Express 2008 installed on a Windows 7 (32-bit) developer workstation. Whenever I run an application that accesses SQL Server the Windows 7 shell hangs when the application closes. Applications like Windows Explorer and Task Manager become completely unresponsive. The task bar will not allow any interaction. The only way to recover the system is to power cycle. Two of the applications in use when this happens are NUnit and SQL Server Management Studio. NUnit always runs the unit tests that interact with the database fine. SQL Server Management Studio will sometimes cause the problem while trying to explore the database. The Windows event log does not show any events that are obviously connected to the problem. I have reverted and reinstalled SQL Server Express 2008 several times. What can be done to identify what is causing SQL Server Express 2008 to hang the Windows 7 shell?

• Having trouble hiding keyboard using invisible button which sits on top of uiscrollview

  I have 3 items in play... 1) UIView sits at the base of the hierarchy and contains the UIScrollview. 2) UIScrollview that is presenting a lengthy user form. 3) An invisible button on the UIScrollview that I'm using to provide "hide the keyboard" features. Notice in the code below that I'm registering to be notified when the keyboard is going to appear and again when it's going to disappear. These are working great. My problem is seemingly one of "layers". See below where I insert the button into the view atIndex:0. This causes the button to be activated and "stuffed" behind the scrollview so that when you click on it, the scrollview grabs the touch and the button is unaware. There is no way to "reach" the button and suppress the keyboard. However, if I insert atIndex:1, the button gets super imposed on top of the text entry fields and so any touch at all is acted upon by the button, which immediately suppresses the keyboard and then disappears. How do I insert the button on top of the UIScrollview but behind the UITextfields that sit there? other logistics: I have a -(void) hidekeyboard function that I have setup with the UIButtion as an IBAction(). And I have the UIButton connected to "files owner" via a ctrl-drag/drop. (Do I need both of those conventions?) This code in ViewDidLoad()... • How do I controll clipping with non-opaque graphics-item's in Qt?

  I have a bunch of QGraphicsSvgItem's in a QGraphicsScene that are drawn connected by QGraphicsLineItem's. This show's a graph of a tree-structure. What I want to do is provide a feature where everything but a selected sub-tree becomes transparent. A kind of "highlight this sub-tree" feature. That part was easy, but the results are ugly because now the lines can be seen through the semi-transparent svg's. I am looking for some way to still clip other QGraphicsItem's in the scene to the svg item's, giving the effect that the svg's are semi-transparent windows to the background. • Sharepoint insists it knows the link to my UNC and won't let me remove hyperlink formatting

  We have a file share at work (one I do not have the power to rename) and it contains a space in it: \\WorkFileShare\Visual Studio\SP1 I'm creating a Wiki Entry that informs users they can locate the VS2010 SP1 download on this Share. For some reason, SharePoint will highlight and hyperlink the UNC up to the space. (I've been dealing with this behavior for years in Outlook and I fix by putting focus on the character before the space and then hitting backspace to remove the formatting). Simple enough and SharePoint also removes the formatting when you backspace on the character before the space. However, as soon as I move away from the link, SharePoint goes right back to highlighting and hyperlinking what it thinks is the UNC. Naughty Sharepoint!! So does anyone have any idea how to clear the formatting? NOTE: Highlighting the text and clicking on the "Clear Format" icon does not work.

• Looking for a router with multiple WAN ports and load balancing

  I'm going to be moving in a few months. The location I'm moving to is great except it's on a road with very few people, so the internet access option is limited to DSL at 1.6Mbps down, 384kbps up. This is much slower than I'm used to. One option is to get at least two of the DSL lines. There's also good possibility that I'll be able to get WiMax or similar. I've been looking around a bit and it seems like what I need is a load balancing router with multiple WAN ports. Can anyone recommend some good ones? I could also go with a small power efficient Linux box with multiple NICs. What would be good software for that? It'd need to be able to handle around 10Mbps. Thanks for any help

• ASP.NET MVC: Can't figure out what VirtualPath is?

  I have a View that displays a list of images and i am now trying to get it to display the images as thumbnails. Well, i'm pretty sure i got most of it right using VirtualPath's from a custom ActionResult although i can't seem to figure out what it is making the VirtualPath url?? BTW, i'm using XML to store the data from the images instead of SQL.   I'm trying to create a "scrollable" layout in Android. Even using developers.android.com, though, I feel a little bit lost at the moment. I'm somewhat new to Java, but not so much that I feel I should be having these issues--being new to Android is the bigger problem right now. The layout I'm trying to create should scroll in a sort of a "grid". I THINK what I'm looking for is the Gallery view, but I'm really lost as to how to implement it at the moment. I want it to "snap" to center the frame, like in the actual Gallery application. Essentially, if I had a photo gallery of 9 pictures, the idea is to scroll between them up/down AND side to side, in a 3x3 manner. Doesn't need to dynamically adjust, or anything like that, I just want a grid I can scroll through. I'm also not asking for anyone to give me explicit code for it--I'm trying to learn, more than anything. But pointing me in the right direction for helpful layout programming resources would be greatly appreciated, and confirming if it's a Gallery view I'm looking for would also be really helpful.   I have several TTTabGrids in my view and now I am stuck with the problem, that I can't figure out, how to detect, when a TTTabItem gets touched. If someone selects an item in one of the TTTabGrids I should upadate some labels. Can someone tell me a way how to detect, when the selection in a TTTabGrid gets changed?   When building your own computer one part was always a mystery to me: the motherboard. Picking a CPU/GPU/memory is easy- you just figure out where the various chips are in the low end to high end scale, do a little market research on what current games demand, and pick the parts from their respective continuums of low-to-high-end models. A mother board is more complicated though. Its features are not as obvious as "this motherboard is faster than that motherboard". Now you need to deal with part compatibilities, bus speeds, maybe power management stuff, etc. I'm interested in a short guide for selecting a motherboard, especially- what pitfalls to avoid (for example, can bus speed become a bottleneck?). To clarify: I'm not looking for motherboard recommendations. I'm looking for guidance regarding how to evaluate the fitness of a motherboard given the rest of the computer parts.

• How to set Laptop Brightness in Gnome and /proc on Thinkpad W510?

  I can set the brightness of my laptop screen already via /proc. I can read and change the value. Now I've set the value to 33 and then I went into gnome power management and enabled the option that it should reduce the backlight brightness being on battery. That works, the screen gets darker. If I now read out the current setting from /proc it still says it's 33. So I assume that there is another node in /proc to be used to control the brightness. The node I use so far is: /proc/acpi/video/VID/LCD0/brightness I'm using the nouveau driver. With the nvida driver the brightness can not be controlled.

• Dealing with rapid tapping on Buttons

  I have a Button with an OnClickListener. For illustrative purposes, consider a button that shows a modal dialog: public class SomeActivity ... { protected void onCreate(Bundle state) { super.onCreate(state); findViewById(R.id.ok_button).setOnClickListener( new View.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(View v) { // This should block input new AlertDialog.Builder(SomeActivity.this) .setCancelable(true) .show(); } }); } Under normal usage, the alert dialog appears and blocks further input. Users must dismiss the dialog before they can tap the button again. But sometimes the button's OnClickListener is called twice before the dialog appears. You can duplicate this fairly easily by tapping really fast on the button. I generally have to try several times before it happens, but sooner or later I'll trigger multiple onClick(...) calls before the dialog blocks input. I see this behavior in Android 2.1 on the Motorola Droid phone. We've received 4 crash reports in the Market, indicating this occasionally happens to people. Depending on what our OnClickListeners do, this causes all sorts of havoc. How can we guarantee that blocking dialogs actually block input after the first tap?

• Ubuntu 9.10 freezes when HDMI port is connected

  Hi, I have a Sony Vaio FW350 with a HDMI output. I'm trying to use it under Ubuntu 9.10 with a LG LCD monitor 21,5'. I've tried two approaches: Boot the laptop with the HDMI cable connected and monitor turned on. Result: LCD Monitor keeps turned on but the whole screen is black and Ubuntu do not seem to be initializing. Boot Ubuntu until the end. I then connect the HDMI cable into the Laptop. The mouse and the whole system freezes. In both cases the only way to turn off the laptop is holding the power button. I've looked around the internet for similar problems, but only found workarounds for the same problem with VGA input, not HDMI. I also tried to use metacity before connecting the cable, but still got the same result. Any hints?

  I am working on a multi-page assessment form where the questions/responses are database driven. Currently I the basic system working with Html.BeginForm via standard ASP.Net MVC. At this point in time, the key to the whole system is the 'Strongly Typed Partial Views'. When the question/response is read from the database, the response type determines which derived model is created and added to the collection. The main view it iterates through the collection and uses the 'Strongly Typed Partial Views' system of ASP.Net MVC to determine which view to render the correct type of response (radio button, drop down, or text box). I would like to change this process from a Html.BeginForm to Ajax.BeginForm. The problem is I don't have a clue as to how to implement the dynamic creation of the question/response in the JavaScript/jQuery world. Any thoughts and/or suggestions? • Strange problems with the Spring RestTemplate in Android application

  I begin to use RESTful api of the Spring Framework in my android client application. But I have encountered with problems when I tried to execute HTTP request via postForObject/postForEntity methods.   I am stuck with redirecting problem in ASP.NET MVC project. I have mapped tables via LINQtoSQL and each has unique ID as primary key. I am implementing functionallity of 'CREATE'. Basically, after new value is added into SQL table (which means I pressed Save button), I want to be redirected to Details of this freshly added item. When I check CallHierarchy in Visual Studio (2010 pro) the hierarchy is indeed little strange, like this : RedirectToAction(string,object) Calls To 'RedirectToAction' Create Calls To Create (no results) Calls From Create (methods of created instance. From there I'll get back to 'RedirectToAction' and to 'Calls to Create' and 'Calls From Create' etc. etc. - loop Edit Calls From 'RedirectToAction' Not supported I am looking for some tools or more specifically 'know how' (since VS probably has some tools) to debug this kind of situations. • My first MVVM application architecture setup

  Ok, time is coming for my first WPF project :). I work before with Flex and PureMVC and I know how project setup is important in RIA's. I decided to work with MVVM. And decided to work with PRISM framework. Application is somethin like operating system. There will be 'shell' (parent for smaller applications). Smaller application I plan to make like modules. So I plan to design structure of project something like this. Module_A {view, viewModel, model, assets} // for example calculator Module_B {view, viewModel, model, assets} // notebook etc I read prism doc and I see that parrent for all this modules should be shell project, and this is my main question here. Parrent_Project {App.xaml, Bootstrapper.cs, Shell.xaml} Because this shell will be fullscreen with background images (like operating system), right click with some features. Is that ok to create folder structure like in modulesXYZ for Shell.xaml here? I want to start project with good structure so any advice is welcome. Thanks
