  • Strategy for developing namespaced and non-namespaced versions of same PHP code

    - by porneL
I'm maintaining library written for PHP 5.2 and I'd like to create PHP 5.3-namespaced version of it. However, I'd also keep non-namespaced version up to date until PHP 5.3 becomes so old, that even Debian stable ships it ;) I've got rather clean code, about 80 classes following Project_Directory_Filename naming scheme (I'd change them to \Project\Directory\Filename of course) and only few functions and constants (also prefixed with project name). Question is: what's the best way to develop namespaced and non-namespaced versions in parallel? Should I just create fork in repository and keep merging changes between branches? Are there cases where backslash-sprinkled code becomes hard to merge? Should I write script that converts 5.2 version to 5.3 or vice-versa? Should I use PHP tokenizer? sed? C preprocessor? Is there a better way to use namespaces where available and keep backwards compatibility with older PHP?

  • External resources in Flash

    - by Eric
Hey all. I'm working on an application that was originally intended for HTML, but I've recently concluded that the best thing to do for my purposes is to do it in Flash instead. One of the big things I need is to be able to bring in movieclips from external files and add them to my main movie at runtime (dynamic number of elements, skinning, etc.) Don't need full-on code for this, but I could use some assistance in tracking down the resources to learn how to do these things successfully. Tutorials, best practices… The usual suspects. I've been using Flash for a while now, and used to do this pretty easily in AS2, but I've had some hiccups using classes and addchild in an earlier attempt, so any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

  • Artificially create a connection timeout error

    - by Mark Ingram
I've had a bug in our software that occurs when I receive a connection timeout. These errors are very rare (usually when my connection gets dropped by our internal network). How can I generate this kind of effect artificially so I can test our software? If it matters the app is written in C++/MFC using CAsyncSocket classes. Edit: I've tried using a non-existant host, and I get the socket error: WSAEINVAL (10022) Invalid argument My next attempt was to use Alexander's suggestion of connecting to a different port, e.g. 81 (on my own server though). That worked great. Exactly the same as a dropped connection (60 second wait, then error). Thank you!

  • Cross-platform GUI toolkits with WPF-style composition capabilities

    - by Alexey Romanov
A huge advantage of WPF over, say, WinForms is its composability. To quote Programming WPF: One level up, WPF provides its “content model,” which allows any control to host any group of other controls. You don’t have to build special BitmapButton or IconComboBox classes; you put as many images, shapes, videos, 3D models, or whatever into a Button (or a ComboBox, ListBox, etc.) as suit your fancy. Are there any cross-platform GUI frameworks (preferably with Java bindings) out there which also let you do this?

  • Mimic an HTTPRequest and HTTPResponse object in Java

    - by Ankur
How do I mimic an HTTPServletRequest and HTTPServletResponse object. The reason is I want to test the behaviour of some servlets. I know JUnit probably provides this functionality but I don't know how to use it (I will learn soon) and need to do this reasonably quickly. HTTPServletRequest and HTTPServletResponse are both interfaces so they can't be instantiated. There is a HttpServletRequestWrapper which implements HttpServletRequest but it doesn't seem to have any setParameter() type methods and HttpServletResponse doesn't seem to have any implementing classes at all. How can I test my code by passing a suitable HttpServletRequest object and then checking that the received HttpServletResponse object matches what I expect?

  • creative way for implementing Data object with it's corespanding buisness logic class in java

    - by ekeren
I have a class that need to be serialized (for both persistentcy and client-server communication) for simplicity reasons lets call the classes Business a BusinessData and I prefix for their Interfaces. All the getter and setter are delegated from Business class to BusinessData class. I thought about implementing IBusinessData interface that will contain all the getter and setters and IBusiness interface that will extend it. I can either make Business extend BuisnessData so I will not need to implement all getter and setter delegates, or make some abstract class ForwardingBusinessData that will only delegate getter and setters. Any of the above option I loose my hierarchy freedom, does any of you have any creative solution for this problem... I also reviewed DAO pattern: http://java.sun.com/blueprints/patterns/DAO.html

  • Ruby on Rails: How to find all items with a hash that contain a specific value...

    - by kingjeffrey
Suppose I have three models: Student, SchoolClass, and DayOfWeek. There is a HABTM relationship between Student and SchoolClass, and between SchoolClass and DayOfWeek. What I'd like to do is find all school classes belonging to a given student that meet on Monday. Now I suppose I could do something like: @student = Student.find(:student_id) @student_classes = @student.school_classes.find(:all) @student_classes_on_monday = Array.new @student_classes.each do |student_class| if student_class.day_of_week.include?("Monday") @student_classes_on_monday << student_class end end But there has to be a more elegant way. Can you help me find it?

  • Stable Scala 2.8 plugin

    - by Felix
Does anyone know if there exists a stable version of the Scala plugin for eclipse, running with Scala 2.8 (any version of scala 2.8...RC or beta or whatever). I like the fact that it compiles 10 times faster than the netbeans plugin, but it is very unstable, and auto-imports doesnt work. Also, sometimes it cant find classes when I hit "run", then I have to clean it again. This is with some random nightly build of the 2.8 eclipse scala plugin. Is there a stable version? If so, can you link me to it? Thanks in advance :)

  • External class-calling

    - by anonymous
Hi guys i have a bit of a problem with a few classes, and i would be very grateful if someone can help me out. So i have: Already compiled executable (for whom i don't have the source) A class in that program that i want to call The program doesn't have export for the class, and that's my problem i don't have definition for this class, so is there a way to get a callback to this class? Example: In the compiled executable: foo::bar (example) { printf(example); } My app: CALLBACK(foo::bar, "this text must be passed as argument") Or in other words i want to call a class in other executable (without having its source) and pass arguments to its function.

  • Documenting logic in javadoc

    - by smayers81
I have a question about where to document logic in javadocs. For example, I have the following method signature in an interface: public int getTotalAssociationsAsParent(Long id, Long type); The method returns associations where the given ID is the parent and the association is of type 'type'. ID is required, but if type passed in is NULL, then I will return ALL associations where the ID is the parent. My question is where should this type of logic be documented? I hesitate putting it in the javadoc of the interface because that sort of constrains all implementing classes to adhere to that logic. Maybe in the future, I'll have an Impl class that throws an IllegalArgumentException if type is NULL. However, if I put it in non-javadoc in the Impl class, then consumers of this method won't know how the method behaves with a NULL type.

  • How does Rails find models and controllers? How can I get it to load more models?

    - by David
I'm trying to create a non-ActiveRecord model in app/models/gamestate.rb. Then inside my controller (PlayController) I should be able to do GameState.new, right? No go: NameError (uninitialized constant PlayController::GameState): app/controllers/play_controller.rb:23:in `play' (at least in the development environment) But! If I do have a model called app/models/play.rb, then it's automatically loaded and I can do Play.new. So my question is: how does Rails know which classes to load? What sort of name mangling does it do to get from play#action to PlayController to app/controllers/play_controller.rb to app/models/play.rb? It seems awfully fragile, but maybe a better understanding of how this works would help. And finally, how can I get it to load app/models/gamestate.rb?

  • Loose Coupling of Components

    - by David
I have created a class library (assembly) that provides messaging, email and sms. This class library defines an interface IMessenger which the classes EmailMessage and SmsMessage both implement. I see this is a general library that would be part of my infrastructure layer and would / can be used across any development. Now, in my application layer I have a class that requires to use a messaging component, I obviously want to use the messaging library that I have created. Additionally, I will be using an IoC container (Spring.net) to allow me to inject my implementation i.e. either email or sms. Therefore, I want to program against an interface in my application layer class, do I then need to reference my message class library from my application layer class? Is this tightly coupling my application layer class to my message class library? Should I be defining the interface - IMessenger in a seperate library? Or should I be doing something else?

  • Mapping an Array to a Single Row

    - by João Bragança
I have the following classes: public class InventoryItem { private Usage[] usages = new Usage[12]; virtual public Usage[] Usages { get { return usages; }} virtual public string Name{get;set;} } public class Usage { virtual public double Quantity{get;set;} virtual public string SomethingElse{get;set;} } I know that Usages.Length will always be 12. I think it would be best to store it in the DB like so: Name nvarchar(64), Usage_Quantity_0 float, Usage_SomethingElse_0 nvarchar(16), Usage_Quantity_1 float, Usage_SomethingElse_1 nvarchar(16), ... Usage_Quantity_11 float, Usage_SomethingElse_11 nvarchar(16), How can I get this done?

  • Mixing table per subclass and per hierarchy in hibernate

    - by Xelluloid
In my database there are two three tables. The first one, table ABSTRACT, holds three columns id, type, someText This table contains all abstract information for the abstract class abstract. Now the two tables CONCRETEONE and CONCRETETWO contain all information for the concrete classes concreteOne and concreteTwo. Now I know I could use the table per subclass strategy from hibernate to create a mapping with inheritance. But as I have a column that marks the type of the concrete implementation could it be possible to create some mixed behaviour like a table per subclass strategy with an discriminator?

  • Best way to model map values in Grails?

    - by Mulone
Hi guys, I have to implement map values in my Grails app. I have a class that can contain 0..N OsmTags, and the key is unique. In Java I would model this with a Map in each object, but I don't know how to map classes in Grails. So I defined this class: class OsmTag { /** OSM tag name, e.g. natural */ String key /** OSM tag value, e.g. park */ String value static constraints = { key blank:false, size:2..80,matches:/[\S]+/, unique:false value blank:false, size:1..250,matches:/[\S]+/, unique:false } } That works ok, but it's actually quite ugly because the tag key is not unique. Is there a better way to model this issue? Cheers

  • Automatic database generation / migration with perl

    - by pistacchio
Hi, In Ror or Django or web2py you can "describe" a database (as a set of classes that remaps to tables) and the framework (having being provided with a connection string to the desired database) generates the tables, fields, relations and in the case of RoR and web2py it also keeps it up-to-date (eg, removing a class drops the table, adding a property to the class triggers an "alter table add" etc). Is there any perl module that does the same? Eg, it takes the YAML / XML / JSON description of a database as input and modifies / generates the database accordingly? Thanks in advance.

  • Pass a Delphi class to a C++ function/method that expects a class with __thiscall methods.

    - by Alan G.
I have some MSVC++ compiled DLL's for which I have created COM-like (lite) interfaces (abstract Delphi classes). Some of those classes have methods that need pointers to objects. These C++ methods are declared with the __thiscall calling convention (which I cannot change), which is just like __stdcall, except a this pointer is passed on the ECX register. I create the class instance in Delphi, then pass it on to the C++ method. I can set breakpoints in Delphi and see it hitting the exposed __stdcall methods in my Delphi class, but soon I get a STATUS_STACK_BUFFER_OVERRUN and the app has to exit. Is it possible to emulate/deal with __thiscall on the Delphi side of things? If I pass an object instantiated by the C++ system then all is good, and that object's methods are called (as would be expected), but this is useless - I need to pass Delphi objects. Edit 2010-04-19 18:12 This is what happens in more detail: The first method called (setLabel) exits with no error (though its a stub method). The second method called (init), enters then dies when it attempts to read the vol parameter. C++ Side #define SHAPES_EXPORT __declspec(dllexport) // just to show the value class SHAPES_EXPORT CBox { public: virtual ~CBox() {} virtual void init(double volume) = 0; virtual void grow(double amount) = 0; virtual void shrink(double amount) = 0; virtual void setID(int ID = 0) = 0; virtual void setLabel(const char* text) = 0; }; Delphi Side IBox = class public procedure destroyBox; virtual; stdcall; abstract; procedure init(vol: Double); virtual; stdcall; abstract; procedure grow(amount: Double); virtual; stdcall; abstract; procedure shrink(amount: Double); virtual; stdcall; abstract; procedure setID(val: Integer); virtual; stdcall; abstract; procedure setLabel(text: PChar); virtual; stdcall; abstract; end; TMyBox = class(IBox) protected FVolume: Double; FID: Integer; FLabel: String; // public constructor Create; destructor Destroy; override; // BEGIN Virtual Method implementation procedure destroyBox; override; stdcall; // empty - Dont need/want C++ to manage my Delphi objects, just call their methods procedure init(vol: Double); override; stdcall; // FVolume := vol; procedure grow(amount: Double); override; stdcall; // Inc(FVolume, amount); procedure shrink(amount: Double); override; stdcall; // Dec(FVolume, amount); procedure setID(val: Integer); override; stdcall; // FID := val; procedure setLabel(text: PChar); override; stdcall; // Stub method; empty. // END Virtual Method implementation property Volume: Double read FVolume; property ID: Integer read FID; property Label: String read FLabel; end; I would have half expected using stdcall alone to work, but something is messing up, not sure what, perhaps something to do with the ECX register being used? Help would be greatly appreciated. Edit 2010-04-19 17:42 Could it be that the ECX register needs to be preserved on entry and restored once the function exits? Is the this pointer required by C++? I'm probably just reaching at the moment based on some intense Google searches. I found something related, but it seems to be dealing with the reverse of this issue.

  • C# Class Instantiation Overflow

    - by Goober
Scenario I have a C# Win Forms App, where the Main Form contains a loop that creates 3000 Instances of another form (Form B). Inside Form B there are a large number of properties and fields and a bunch of methods that do a fair amount of processing. Question Will the creation of 3000 of these classes give me problems? I'm thinking along the lines of memory exceptions? I've had 1 or 2 already, and I've also had an exception that says something along the lines of "Something went bang and this is usually a sign of corrupt memory somewhere else". Setup I'm using a DevExpress Ribbon Form and I haven't implemented Dispose on anything....Do I need to? Help greatly appreciated.

  • How do I convert a windows forms app from C# to VB ?

    - by SLC
I've been converting all kinds of other things, classes, interfaces, ASP.NET MVC apps, and WPF applications, but I am stumped as to how to convert a windows forms application, as the whole structure seems to be different. Does anyone have any advice on how to tackle this problem? I see essentially that you have two files, Form1.cs and Form1.Designer.cs. Literally translating them from C# to VB doesn't work because of some intricacies or other of how Visual Basic works. I think you /might/ be able to convert Form1.cs in this way, as it's just a constructor plus event handlers, but the designer contains the references to the controls etc. and I am not sure how to go about doing that. I am using Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2.

  • Using a "vo" for joined data?

    - by keithjgrant
I'm building a small financial system. Because of double-entry accounting, transactions always come in batches of two or more, so I've got a batch table and a transaction table. (The transaction table has batch_id, account_id, and amount fields, and shared data like date and description are relegated to the batch table). I've been using basic vo-type models for each table so far. Because of this table structure structure, though, transactions will almost always be selected with a join on the batch table. So should I take the selected records and splice them into two separate vo objects, or should I create a "shared" vo that contains both batch and transaction data? There are a few cases in which batch records and/or transaction records. Are there possible pitfalls down the road if I have "overlapping" vo classes?

  • Cleanly handling events

    - by nkr1pt
    I have code similar to this in all my observer classes that handle events fired by an event bus class. As you can see there are a lot of instanceof checks to choose the path of action needed to appropriately handle events, and I was wondering if this could be done more cleanly, eliminating the instanceof tests? @Override public void handleEvent(Event event) { if (event instanceof DownloadStartedEvent) { DownloadStartedEvent dsEvent = (DownloadStartedEvent)event; dsEvent.getDownloadCandidateItem().setState(new BusyDownloadingState()); } else if (event instanceof DownloadCompletedEvent) { DownloadCompletedEvent dcEvent = (DownloadCompletedEvent)event; dcEvent.getDownloadCandidateItem().setState(new FinishedDownloadingState()); DownloadCandidate downloadCandidate = dcEvent.getDownloadCandidateItem(). getDownloadCandidate(); if (downloadCandidate.isComplete()) { // start extracting } } else if (event instanceof DownloadFailedEvent) { DownloadFailedEvent dfEvent = (DownloadFailedEvent)event; dfEvent.getDownloadCandidateItem().setState(new FailedDownloadingState()); } }

  • Relevance of 'public' constructor in abstract class.

    - by Amby
Is there any relevance of a 'public' constructor in an abstract class? I can not think of any possible way to use it, in that case shouldn't it be treated as error by compiler (C#, not sure if other languages allow that). Sample Code: internal abstract class Vehicle { public Vehicle() { } } The C# compiler allows this code to compile, while there is no way i can call this contructor from the outside world. It can be called from derived classes only. So shouldn't it allow 'protected' and 'private' modifiers only. Please comment.

  • Problem with assigning elements of a class array to individual variables in MATLAB

    - by Marc
This is a bit of a duplicate of this question, this question, and this question, however those solutions don't work, so I'm asking mine. I've got an array of locally defined classes and I'd like to assign it to multiple, individual variables. This pattern doesn't work: %a is 2x1 of MyClass temp = mat2cell(a); [x,y] = temp{:}; %throws: ??? Insufficient number of outputs from right hand side of equal sign to satisfy assignment. Because temp is a single cell, with my 2x1 array in one cell, rather than a 2x1 cell array with one element of each of my original array in one cell. Any ideas?

  • Scala model-view-presenter, traits

    - by Ralph
I am a fan of Martin Fowler's (deprecated) model-view-presenter pattern. I am writing a Scala view class containing several button classes. I would like to include methods to set the action properties of the buttons, to be called by the presenter. A typical code fragment looks like this: private val aButton = new JButton def setAButtonAction(action: Action): Unit = { aButton.setAction(action) } This code is repeated for each button. If Java/Scala had the C preprocessor, I would create a macro to generate this code, given the button name (no lectures on the evils of the C preprocessor, please). This code is obviously very verbose and repetitive. Is there any better way way to do this in Scala, perhaps using traits? Please hold the lectures about scala.swing. I looking for a general pattern here.

I only know PHP/mysq/JS, and there is not much AI stuff examples in PHP. There are some books on AI on internet but they use Java , Python. Now I have to apply AI techniques on web application. Which language should i choose java or python. I searhed on internet that I can call java classes inside my php so that can help as as I am very good at php I have also seen that python can also be used with php as well So which way should I go and roughly how much it will take me to learn java I have done java basics but that was 6 years ago
