  I'm using the following code in an attempt to show a dialog with a list of errors on the client: if (rollout.ImportErrors.Count > 0) { ClientScript.RegisterClientScriptBlock(GetType(), "showErrors", "showErrors();", true); } The error count is non-zero and the following script block is emitted, but the script isn't executing. <script type="text/javascript"> //<![CDATA[ $("#error-report").dialog("open")//]]> </script> If I call the function directly from a Firebug console window, the dialog shows properly, so I know the dialog and my code are working. What am I doing wrong? BTW, this code is in a content page, using a content placeholder that 'injects' code into the element of the rendered page.

  I'm trying to call Window's SendMessage method in Delphi Prism, I've declared the class as follow: type MyUtils = public static class private [DllImport("user32.dll", CharSet := CharSet.Auto)] method SendMessage(hWnd:IntPtr; Msg:UInt32; wParam:IntPtr; lParam:IntPtr):IntPtr; external; protected public end; When I tried to compile, I get the error Unknown identifier "DllImport" I used this as an example, http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2708520/how-to-call-function-createprocess-in-delphi-prism and the syntax looks the same. Is there a setting I need to enable, or do I have a syntax error?

• Google Maps & jQuery InfoWindow Replacement

  Hi all, So I'm rewriting my first google maps app and I'm looking at how I create info windows on click of a marker and it seems very inefficent to be adding a listener for each. Previously I've used GInfoWindow and EBubble (http://econym.org.uk/gmap/ebubble.htm). I was thinking that I could use jQuery to show a div with dynamic data if I had a hook for each marker to show the window and relevant marker info (pulled from JSON). I can see each marker has a unique id (e.g. mtgt_unnamed_2822) but I'm not sure how to predicte this. Has anyone tried this before or know how to go about it? Thanks Denis

• MKMapView within UITableView

  I have a MKMapView within a UITableviewCell and I want to be able to disable scrolling of the table view when the user starts to drag within the map view. My plan had been to override the MKMapView touchesBegan/Moved etc methods and if they were called to then disable scrolling in the parent view. Scrolling in the parent view would be enabled again only when the touches in the MKMapView ended or were cancelled. My problem is that the touchesBegan/Moved methods inside MKMapView are not called - the problem is also discussed here: stackoverflow discussion. My table view is within a tab control, so I don't think I can extend UIWindow the way they describe, as there are several views that could be within the window, depending on which tab is active. How can I access the MKMapView touch events please?

  I'm hearing this alot, that you can develop an app in WPF and run it as a desktop app or in a browser. Is this really true? I've install visual studio 2010 and I see 2 project templates : WPF Windows Application and WPF Browser Application (XBAP). Currently reading a book on WPF, it talks about Page-Base app, which can be use for navigation. To creatre an app to run on your browser you have to use the WPF Browser Application. So if I start with WPF Windows Application template can I run it in a browser ? I am assuming not since most of my class will be Window and not Page ....

• Adding rows to UItableview and passing data between Viewcontrollers

  I have a list of websites in a plist, when the app loads this populates a tableview (which is inside a navigation controller) But I have added an add button to the navigation bar and then created another View Controller to deal with inputting of the new website (Like Title and URL). It is very similar to how the contacts app looks. There is a table view and when you tap add, the add UI slides up. I have got all this working great so far. My Problem is what happens when the user taps Done. I can add the website to the plist (each website is a dictionary in the plist with 2 keys, atm) But then how do I tell the tableView to update? The table view has not been removed from the main window, just the add view has been added on top of the "screen". Another way of asking is, when you tap Save on Add a Contact screen: (not my image) How does the new contact's data (Xyz's data) get shown on the tableview?

  Hi, PDF experts help needed, I am posting a form from PDF to a PHP script with Adobe Acrobat. I would like to set my PDF to display appropiate messages based upon some returned values. So I am looking for returned values... if there is any returned values after posting the form, how can I access them? Maybe, there is an option to set this in Adobe? Another thing: When the PDF form gets submitted and let's say I echo back a 'thank you' message from my form-handler PHP script, a new PDF gets created and opened displaying my message... is there a way to open that new message in the same window and close the form instead? • Redirect output to file

  Hi, I have a shell script which is currently running and was running from past 8 hours. It will complete only by tomorrow evening. At the end of the program, it will print 2 million words to standard output. I am running the program on the screen. I forgot to redirect the output to a file. I know I won't be able to copy the data from the window. Is there a way to output the command to a file. I don't want to restart the program. Any thoughts?? Thank you. Bala

  Q: What’s your current role and what career path brought you here? J.O.: I'm currently a partner and one of the founding team members at Altimeter Group.  I'm currently the Research Director, as well as wear the hat of Industry Analyst. Prior to joining Altimeter, I was an Industry Analyst at Forrester covering Social Computing, and before that, deployed and managed the social media program at Hitachi Data Systems in Santa Clara.  Around that time, I started a career blog called Web Strategy which focused on how companies were using the web to connect with customers --and never looked back. Q: As an industry analyst, what are you focused on these days? J.O.: There are three trends that I'm focused my research on at this time:  1) The Dynamic Customer Journey:  Individuals (both b2c and b2b) are given so many options in their sources of data, channels to choose from and screens to consume them on that we've found that at each given touchpoint there are 75 potential permutations.  Companies that can map this, then deliver information to individuals when they need it will have a competitive advantage and we want to find out who's doing this.  2) One of the sub themes that supports this trend is Social Performance.  Yesterday's social web was disparate engagement of humans, but the next phase will be data driven, and soon new technologies will emerge to help all those that are consuming, publishing, and engaging on the social web to be more efficient with their time through forms of automation.  As you might expect, this comes with upsides and downsides.  3) The Sentient World is our research theme that looks out the furthest as the world around us (even inanimate objects) become 'self aware' and are able to talk back to us via digital devices and beyond.  Big data, internet of things, mobile devices will all be this next set. Q: People cite that the line between work and life is getting more and more blurred. Do you see your personal life influencing your professional work? J.O.: The lines between our work and personal lives are dissolving, and this leads to a greater upside of being always connected and have deeper relationships with those that are not.  It also means a downside of society expectations that we're always around and available for colleagues, customers, and beyond.  In the future, a balance will be sought as we seek to achieve the goals of family, friends, work, and our own personal desires.  All of this is being ironically written at 430 am on a Sunday am.  Q: How can people keep up with what you’re working on? • Why is LOGON_USER Server Variable is blank on New Windows / New Tab?

  We are noticing some very strange behavior on an installation of a .NET2-based webapp on Server 2008. Our app uses "old school" Integrated Windows Authentication and simply reads the LOGIN_USER server variable from the request collection. There's a good reason for this, but that's somewhat irrelevant to the question, since the underlying WindowsAuthentication code from ASP.NET does the same thing. Anyway... When you enter the URL in the browser, it loads up just fine and displays the username (from LOGIN_USER) no problem. When you click on a link within the web app, it loads the page just fine and authenticates without any problems. When you "hard refresh" (Ctrl-F5) it also works just fine. However, when you click "open in a new window" or "open in a new tab", the LOGON_USER variable is blank Any ideas? Am I missing some IIS7 setting somewhere? Tested clients are Windows 7 with IE8 or Windows XP with IE6.

  I was reading this article - http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/dd419663.aspx And I came across this piece of code in the WPF Demo application that came with the article. This template applies a CustomerView to an instance of the CustomerViewModel class shown in the main window. <DataTemplate DataType="{x:Type vm:CustomerViewModel}"> <vw:CustomerView /> </DataTemplate> I substituted the angle brackets for square brackets - not sure how to post them. The code is in the MainWindowResourses.xaml and the code starts on line 19. Anyone know how I can do this in Silverlight ?? We don't have the DataType and I need to be able to tell the app that this View is associated with this ViewModel - so I can create a tab control with different view like the demo app. Cheers, EC

  Hi On my development system, I have python 2.6, python 1.1 and GAE. I have three projects running on python 2.6 and django 1.1. And 1 project using GAE, Python 2.6 and django 1.1. I have heard that, my set-up for running GAE using python 2.6 may create some head scratching problems while deploying it on the production server, because GAE supports only python 2.5. And using 2.6 is not recommended. Can I develop GAE application using python 2.6? If not what should be the solution, I am using Window vista as my development system.

• Python class design - Splitting up big classes into multiple ones to group functionality

  OK I've got 2 really big classes 1k lines each that I currently have split up into multiple ones. They then get recombined using multiple inheritance. Now I'm wondering, if there is any cleaner/better more pythonic way of doing this. Completely factoring them out would result in endless amounts of self.otherself.do_something calls, which I don't think is the way it should be done. To make things clear here's what it currently looks like: from gui_events import GUIEvents # event handlers from gui_helpers import GUIHelpers # helper methods that don't directly modify the GUI # GUI.py class GUI(gtk.Window, GUIEvents, GUIHelpers): # general stuff here stuff here One problem that is result of this is Pylint complaining giving me trillions of "init not called" / "undefined attribute" / "attribute accessed before definition" warnings.

• UIAlertView Dismiss Not Really Dismissed

  Below is the code I'm using to do a retry on an FBConnect session. When the [self loginToFaceBook] fires FBConnect adds a subview to 'window' which is still the UIAlert view, so when the UIAlert really dismisses it takes the FBConnect view with it. • Eclipse: Subclipse "Edit Conflicts"

  I have found that when using Subclipse to edit conflicts, all my syntax color settings are preserved except for the background color, which is reset to the standard white. Using my particular color scheme makes it almost impossible to read any of the text when stuck with a white background. Is there anywhere I can change this default background color? There doesn't seem to be any way to do this from the preferences window, but perhaps there is a config file somewhere I could edit? Any help would be very much appreciated (my eyes will thank you too)!

• How to automatically scroll ScrollViewer - only if the user did not change scroll position

  I would like to create the following behaviour in a ScrollViewer that wraps ContentControl: When the ContentControl height grows , the ScrollViewer should automatically scroll to the end. This is easy to achive by using ScrollViewer.ScrollToEnd(). However, if the user uses the scroll bar, the automatic scrolling shouldn't happen anymore. This is similar to what happens in VS output window for example. The problem is to know when a scrolling has happened because of user scrolling and when it happened because the content size changed. I tried to play with the ScrollChangedEventArgsof ScrollChangedEvent, but couldn't get it to work. Ideally, I do not want to handle all possible Mouse and keyboard events.

• tptp/profiling of web-application within eclipse - no data collectors available

  Hi, I have a problem with tptp/profiling within eclipse. Because at first I had some very strange problems, I downloaded the “TPTP all-in-one package” (tptp.runtime.allInOne.win32.win32.x86-TPTP-4.6.2.zip) and added the stuff I need (Jboss-Tools, etc.) I am using Windows XP SP3, Java 6u20, Eclipse 3.5.2.(, jboss-4.2.3.GA-jdk6) In "Profile Configurations"/Tab "Monitor" I got “IWAT0435E An error occurred when connecting to the host” and in the “Profile on Server” Window in the tab Monitor I got only “pre-JRE 1.5“ as choice. After disabling an enabling the IAC in “Preferences”/”Agent Controller” that IWAT...-problem was gone but now I don't get anything in the “Profile on Server”/”Monitor” tab, but it says “[Monitor] The launch requires at least one data collector to be selected.” any ideas?

The tutorials I've looked at for both libraries state nothing about this; so I assume that it's more of a C++ thing than a library thing. So I was wondering; how do you move a sprite? (When I say move, I mean have the sprite "glide" across the window at a set speed)

• An MCM exam, Rob? Really?

  I took the SQL 2008 MCM Knowledge exam while in Seattle for the PASS Summit ten days ago. I wasn’t planning to do it, but I got persuaded to try. I was meaning to write this post to explain myself before the result came out, but it seems I didn’t get typing quickly enough. Those of you who know me will know I’m a big fan of certification, to a point. I’ve been involved with Microsoft Learning to help create exams. I’ve kept my certifications current since I first took an exam back in 1998, sitting many in beta, across quite a variety of topics. I’ve probably become quite good at them – I know I’ve definitely passed some that I really should’ve failed. I’ve also written that I don’t think exams are worth studying for. (That’s probably not entirely true, but it depends on your motivation. If you’re doing learning, I would encourage you to focus on what you need to know to do your job better. That will help you pass an exam – but the two skills are very different. I can coach someone on how to pass an exam, but that’s a different kind of teaching when compared to coaching someone about how to do a job. For example, the real world includes a lot of “it depends”, where you develop a feel for what the influencing factors might be. In an exam, its better to be able to know some of the “Don’t use this technology if XYZ is true” concepts better.) As for the Microsoft Certified Master certification… I’m not opposed to the idea of having the MCM (or in the future, MCSM) cert. But the barrier to entry feels quite high for me. When it was first introduced, the nearest testing centres to me were in Kuala Lumpur and Manila. Now there’s one in Perth, but that’s still a big effort. I know there are options in the US – such as one about an hour’s drive away from downtown Seattle, but it all just seems too hard. Plus, these exams are more expensive, and all up – I wasn’t sure I wanted to try them, particularly with the fact that I don’t like to study. I used to study for exams. It would drive my wife crazy. I’d have some exam scheduled for some time in the future (like the time I had two booked for two consecutive days at TechEd Australia 2005), and I’d make sure I was ready. Every waking moment would be spent pouring over exam material, and it wasn’t healthy. I got shaken out of that, though, when I ended up taking four exams in those two days in 2005 and passed them all. I also worked out that if I had a Second Shot available, then failing wasn’t a bad thing at all. Even without Second Shot, I’m much more okay about failing. But even just trying an MCM exam is a big effort. I wouldn’t want to fail one of them. Plus there’s the illusion to maintain. People have told me for a long time that I should just take the MCM exams – that I’d pass no problem. I’ve never been so sure. It was almost becoming a pride-point. Perhaps I should fail just to demonstrate that I can fail these things. Anyway – boB Taylor (@sqlboBT) persuaded me to try the SQL 2008 MCM Knowledge exam at the PASS Summit. They set up a testing centre in one of the room there, so it wasn’t out of my way at all. I had to squeeze it in between other commitments, and I certainly didn’t have time to even see what was on the syllabus, let alone study. In fact, I was so exhausted from the week that I fell asleep at least once (just for a moment though) during the actual exam. Perhaps the questions need more jokes, I’m not sure. I knew if I failed, then I might disappoint some people, but that I wouldn’t’ve spent a great deal of effort in trying to pass. On the other hand, if I did pass I’d then be under pressure to investigate the MCM Lab exam, which can be taken remotely (therefore, a much smaller amount of effort to make happen). In some ways, passing could end up just putting a bunch more pressure on me. Oh, and I did.

• SQL SERVER – Planned and Unplanned Availablity Group Failovers – Notes from the Field #031

  [Note from Pinal]: This is a new episode of Notes from the Fields series. AlwaysOn is a very complex subject and not everyone knows many things about this. The matter of the fact is there is very little information available on this subject online and not everyone knows everything about this. This is why when a very common question related to AlwaysOn comes, people get confused. In this episode of the Notes from the Field series database expert John Sterrett (Group Principal at Linchpin People) explains a very common issue DBAs and Developer faces in their career and is related to Planned and Unplanned Availablity Group Failovers. Linchpin People are database coaches and wellness experts for a data driven world. Read the experience of John in his own words. Whenever a disaster occurs it will be a stressful scenario regardless of how small or big the disaster is. This gets multiplied when it is your first time working with newer technology or the first time you are going through a disaster without a proper run book. Today, were going to help you establish a run book for creating a planned failover with availability groups. To make today’s session simple were going to have two instances of SQL Server 2012 included in an availability group and walk through the steps of doing an unplanned failover.  We will focus on using the user interface and T-SQL to complete the failovers. We are going to use a two replica Availability Group where each replica is in another location. Therefore, we will be covering Asynchronous (non automatic failover) the following is a breakdown of our availability group utilized today. Seeing the following screen might be scary the first time you come across an unplanned failover.  It looks like our test database used in this Availability Group is not functional and it currently isn’t. The database status is not synchronizing which makes sense because the primary replica went down so it couldn’t synchronize. With that said, we can still failover and make it functional while we troubleshoot why we lost our primary replica. To start we are going to right click on the availability group that needs to be restarted and select failover. This will bring up the following wizard, which will walk you through several steps needed to complete the failover using the graphical user interface provided with SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS). You are going to see warning messages simply because we are in Asynchronous commit mode and can not guarantee ‘no data loss’ when we do failover. Just incase you missed it; you get another screen warning you about potential data loss because we are in Asynchronous mode. Next we get to connect to the specific replica we want to become the primary replica after the failover occurs. In our case, we only have two replicas so this is trivial. In order to failover, it’s required to connect to the replica that will become primary.  The following screen shows that the connection has been made successfully. Next, you will see the final summary screen. Once again, this reminds you that the failover action will cause data loss as were using Asynchronous commit mode due to the distance between instances used for disaster recovery. Finally, once the failover is completed you will see the following screen. If you followed along this long you might be wondering what T-SQL scripts are generated for clicking through all the sections of the wizard. If you have used Database Mirroring in the past you might be surprised.  It’s not too different, which makes sense because the data is being replicated via SQL Server endpoints just like the good old database mirroring. Now were going to take a look at how to do a failover with just T-SQL. First, were going to need to open a new query window and run our query in SQLCMD mode. Just incase you haven’t used SQLCMD mode before we will show you how to enable it below. Now you can run the following statement. Notice, we connect to the replica we want to become primary after failover and specify to force failover to allow data loss. We can use the following script to failback over when our primary instance comes back online. -- YOU MUST EXECUTE THE FOLLOWING SCRIPT IN SQLCMD MODE. :Connect SQL2012PROD1 ALTER AVAILABILITY GROUP [AGSQL2] FORCE_FAILOVER_ALLOW_DATA_LOSS; GO Are your servers running at optimal speed or are you facing any SQL Server Performance Problems?
