• how to tile 3D mesh with image brush in XAML

  I have a 2D square in a ViewPort3D that I want to do a tiling of an image (like a checkerboard or flooring with "tiles" effect). I've created an image brush (the image is 50x50 pixels, the surface 250x550 pixels) and a viewport (trying to follow MS's site - though their example is for 2D), but only 1 of the colors in the "tile" image shows up and no tiling is seen. • Umbraco template issues

  Hi fellow Umbraco users, I'm currently building my first umbraco website and since I'm completely new to umbraco I've already ran into a problem which I'm sure is pretty straight-forward to do. That said, I'm by no means a beginner when it comes to building sites that run on a (open source) CMS as I've been using Joomla! since it was called Mambo. Anyway, the site I'm building is here: my site What I want to do is to have some content in the white box that changes when you mouseover/hover one of the menu items. Also that content has to stay "active" when you've clicked on a link (i.e. if you click on "Profile" I need to highlight the Profile menu item with the gray color and the white boxs content needs to be what would be related to the Profile menu item. How do I go about this? What would be the best practice when it comes to showing multiple content on a site? I've watched the video about multiple Content Place Holders, but I never really got it to work. I can't get a page to display in the NavigationPlaceHolder (the placeholder I put in the white box), but thats because the actual page is Frontpage.aspx and not WhateverIsInThenavigationPlaceHolder.aspx. If I go to the mysite.dk/WhateverIsInTheNavigationPlaceHolder.aspx it shows up fine. What have I missed here? :) Thanks in advance! • What are some programming techniques for converting SD images to HD images

  I'm taking programming class and instructor loves to work with images so most of our assignments involve manipulating raw RGB image data. One of our assignments is to implement a standard image converter that converts SD images to HD images and vice versa. I always take advantage of these types of assignments to go a little beyond what we were asked to do, so I added a basic anti-aliasing process that uses the average pixel color of the 3x3 surrounding pixels to improve the converted image. While it helps a bit, the resulting image still doesn't look good, which is ok because it's not expected to for the assignment. I've learned that converting an SD to HD images has shown to be much harder than down sampling to SD from HD just because SD to HD effectively involves increasing resolution when it is not there. Obviously, it is hard to create pixels from nothing, but I'd like enhance my anti-aliasing to something that provides better results when upscaling an image. Most of the techniques I find and read on the internet are far beyond my level of image processing and programming. Can anybody suggest any better methods or processes to create good HD content from SD content that may be within my programming skill level? I know that's a difficult thing to gauge since you don't know me, but perhaps knowing that I can write c++ code to read in raw RGB data and upscale/downscale it with simple average-anti-aliasing will give you an idea. • Should we migrate from svn to Team Foundation Server 2010?

  We are with 6 developer and currently use Visual Studio 2008 Professional with SVN and Visual SVN. As soon as vs2010 is released we will upgrade from vs2008 pro to vs2010 premium. However if Team Foundation Server has a proper source control included in vs2010 premium, then it does make sense to use it. We like SVN, but like tight integration of tools even better. On the internet information on SVN versus TFS 2010 seems to be scarce. Hence my question here. EDIT: This video looks very compelling. Is this marketing talk or real? Thank you all for your replies! I absolutely appreciate this. A little more background info. This is our current stack; vs2008 pro, Visual SVN, SVN, Jetbrain Teamcity. My main problem is that we use a lot of tools from different vendors which more or less integrate. Sometime more, mostly less. At least it takes a lot of time to set it up correctly. We currently do not use branches, but we want to. Therefore we have to set up SVN from scratch (we looked into it carefully). So let me rephrase my question: Should we set up SVN or start using TFS?

• Extracting email addresses in an html block in ruby/rails

  I am creating a parser that wards off against spamming and harvesting of emails from a block of text that comes from tinyMCE (so it may or may not have html tags in it) I've tried regexes and so far this has been successful: /\b[A-Z0-9._%+-]+@[A-Z0-9.-]+\.[A-Z]{2,4}\b/i problem is, i need to ignore all email addresses with mailto hrefs. for example: <a href="mailto:[email protected]">[email protected]</a> should only return the second email add. To get a background of what im doing, im reversing the email addresses in a block so the above example would look like this: <a href="mailto:[email protected]">moc.liam@tset</a> problem with my current regex is that it also replaces the one in href. Is there a way for me to do this with a single regex? Or do i have to check for one then the other? Is there a way for me to do this just by using gsub or do I have to use some nokogiri/hpricot magicks and whatnot to parse the mailtos? Thanks in advance! • Avoid the collapsing effect on TreeView after updating data

  I have a TreeView used to display events. It works great, however every time new events are coming in and populating the tree collapse the tree again to the original position. That is very annoying when the refresh time is less than 1 second and it does not allow the user to interact with the items of the tree.   Hi. I have a project in wich I must create a form editor (just like infopath) using wpf. For this I thought to use a RichTextBox and in there I would place InlineUIElements with the different controls (TextBox, ComboBox, etc.). The problem is that I can't change some properties associated with those controls. • Game of life in F# with accelerator

  I'm trying to write life in F# using accelerator v2, but for some odd reason my output isn't square despite all my arrays being square - It appears that everything but a rectangular area in the top left of the matrix is being set to false. I've got no idea how this could be happening as all my operations should treat the entire array equally. • Parsing basic math equations for children's educational software?

  Inspired by a recent TED talk, I want to write a small piece of educational software. The researcher created little miniature computers in the shape of blocks called "Siftables". [David Merril, inventor - with Siftables in the background.] There were many applications he used the blocks in but my favorite was when each block was a number or basic operation symbol. You could then re-arrange the blocks of numbers or operation symbols in a line, and it would display an answer on another siftable block. So, I've decided I wanted to implemented a software version of "Math Siftables" on a limited scale as my final project for a CS course I'm taking. What is the generally accepted way for parsing and interpreting a string of math expressions, and if they are valid, perform the operation? Is this a case where I should implement a full parser/lexer? I would imagine interpreting basic math expressions would be a semi-common problem in computer science so I'm looking for the right way to approach this. For example, if my Math Siftable blocks where arranged like: [1] [+] [2] This would be a valid sequence and I would perform the necessary operation to arrive at "3". However, if the child were to drag several operation blocks together such as: [2] [\] [\] [5] It would obviously be invalid. Ultimately, I want to be able to parse and interpret any number of chains of operations with the blocks that the user can drag together. Can anyone explain to me or point me to resources for parsing basic math expressions? I'd prefer as much of a language agnostic answer as possible.

  Hi all, I have a JavaFX app with a some code like this... public class MainListener extends EventListener{ override public function event (arg0 : String) : Void { statusText.content = arg0; } } statusText is defined like this... var statusText = Text { x: 30 y: stageHeight - 40 font: Font { name: "Bitstream Vera Sans Bold" size: 10 } wrappingWidth: 420 fill: Color.WHITE textAlignment: TextAlignment.CENTER content: "Status: awaiting DBF file." }; I also have some other Javacode that is load data, much like this.. public ArrayList<CustomerRecord> read(EventListener listener) { ArrayList<CustomerRecord> listOfCustomerRecords = new ArrayList<CustomerRecord>(); listener.event("Status: Starting read"); // ** takes a while... List<Map<String, CustomerField>> customerRecords = new Reader(file).readData(listener); // ** long running method over. listener.event("Status: Loaded all customers, count:" + listOfCustomerRecords.size()); return listOfCustomerRecords; } Now while the last method is in its long running call, I would expect to see my statusText updated to have 'Status: Starting read', but its doesn't. Its only when the read() method returns that the text is updated. If its was 'straight' java I would presume that the long running job is hogging the CPU, or the statusText needed to have repaint() called on it. Can anyone give me any ideas? Thanks Jeff Porter

• No right-click event Firefox 3.6

  I'm in the process of porting an app to JavaScript/CSS and it uses right-click. For some reason Firefox 3.6 for Windows isn't issuing a right-click event, but Chrome and IE do. Here's some test code. • What issues to consider when rolling your own data-backend for Silverlight / AJAX on non-ASP.NET ser

  I have read-only Silverlight and AJAX apps which read static text and XML files from a PHP/Apache server, which works very nicely with features such as asynchronous loading, lazy-loading only what I need for each page, loading in the background, developed a little query language to get a PHP script to create custom XML files etc. it's pragmatic read-only REST, and all works fast and fine for read-only sites. Now I want to also add the ability to write data from these apps to a database on the same PHP/Apache server. For those of you who have built similar data-access layers, what do I need to consider while building this, especially regarding security so that not just any client can write and alter my database, e.g.: check HTTP_USER_AGENT for security check REMOTE_ADDR for security require a special code for security, perhaps a list of TAN codes (such as banks use for online transactions) each which can only be used once, both the client and server have these I wonder if there is some kind of standard REST query I should lean on for e.g. building SQL-like statements in the URL parameters, e.g. http://www.thedatalayersite.com/query?insertinto=customers&... Any thoughts, notes from experience, ideas, gotchas, especially ideas on tightening down security in this endeavor would be helpful.

• Help with animating an element in jQuery

  I have an unordered list with a few list elements. #tags { width: 300px; height: 300px; position: relative; border: 1px solid red; list-style: none none; } #tags li { position: absolute; background: gray; } I have also started writing a jQuery plugin to animate the list elements. So far, I place the list elements randomly in the parent container, and choose a random font size for the text. My next step (which I am a bit stuck on) is to animate the list elements... essentially, I want the list elements to do something like this Slide from left to right whilst getting slightly larger up to the middle and then dropping in size back to normal when it hits the right border. Then, it should do the same in reverse, however it should also set a negative 'z-index' and maybe fade in opacity a bit. The first bit I'm really stuck on, is how to determine if the element is near the middle, in a way that I can have a value that starts at 0.1 on the far left hand size and is 1 in the middle and then back to 0.1 on the far right hand size. Basically, I want them to appear as if they are going around in a faux 3D circle into the page. Then I could do something like this $(this).css({ fontSize: percentageTowardsMiddle * 14, }); Do you know how I could do this? Thanks

The issue is: it is tough to determine if a "wheel" is out there, since any search for JavaScript libraries pulls up an ocean of HTML-centric stuff. I am not interested in HTML necessarily, just text.   Background Working in .NET 2.0 Here, reflecting lists in general. I was originally using t.IsAssignableFrom(typeof(IEnumerable)) to detect if a Property I was traversing supported the IEnumerable Interface. (And thus I could cast the object to it safely) However this code was not evaluating to True when the object is a BindingList<T>. Next I tried to use t.IsSubclassOf(typeof(IEnumerable)) and didn't have any luck either. (Already Working) Once inside this function, given the object the property resides on, and the PropertyInfo related, get the value of the property, cast it to an IEnumerable (assuming it's possible) and then iterate through each child and call ReflectObject(...) on the child with the count variable.

• Shadowbox.js and dailymotion videos

  Hi there. I have a site set up with some thumbs and links to videos hosted on vimeo. I show them in a overlay using shadowbox.js. This works perfect. Now I want to add a video hosted on dailymotion, but it doesn't work. The working link to vimeo video: <a rel="shadowbox;height=636;width=956" href="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=11377863&server=vimeo.com&show_title=1&show_byline=1&show_portrait=1&color=00ADEF&fullscreen=1" class="player_text">thumbnail here</a> The non working link to dailymotion video: <a rel="shadowbox;height=636;width=956" href="http://www.dailymotion.com/swf/xd6g8y?related=0&autoplay=1" class="player_text">thumbnail here</a> When the href is pasted in a browser, both links work fine. Both are played in a swf as far as I can see. So I can't see why shadowbox won't show it. Unless its a permission problem on the dailymotion video. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

• Why would delaying a thread response fix view corruption?

  6 times out of 10 my very simple iPhone app is getting a corrupted display on launch or crashes randomly. But it behaves fine in the simulator. The display corruption looks like mis-colored fonts, out of place font text, wrong background colors, etc. I've found a strange work-around.. when my thread delays by 2 seconds before calling the "done" notification, everything works swimmingly. The thread reads a web page and the "done" notification loads up a PickerView with strings. So what gives? • Bash: how to simply parallelize tasks?

  I'm writing a tiny script that calls the "PNGOUT" util on a few hundred PNG files. I simply did this: find $BASEDIR -iname "*png" -exec pngout {} \; And then I looked at my CPU monitor and noticed only one of the core was used, which is quite sad. In this day and age of dual, quad, octo and hexa (?) cores desktop, how do I simply parallelize this task with Bash? (it's not the first time I've had such a need, for quite a lot of these utils are mono-threaded... I already had the case with mp3 encoders). Would simply running all the pngout in the background do? How would my find command look like then? (I'm not too sure how to mix find and the '&' character) I if have three hundreds pictures, this would mean swapping between three hundreds processes, which doesn't seem great anyway!? Or should I copy my three hundreds files or so in "nb dirs", where "nb dirs" would be the number of cores, then run concurrently "nb finds"? (which would be close enough) But how would I do this?

• ASP.NET NamingContainer naming convention

  The Background Hello! I'm working on a project in which the client has required a lot of things to happen on a single page, and this has resulted in a rather large blob of HTML being rendered out to the client browser. The main issue is with input tags (where runat="server" attribute is set), these tend to cause a drastic increase in markup size due to validation, updatepanel triggers, viewstate, and the control markup itself. I've done what I can to reduce the amount of triggers I'm using, I'm compressing the viewstate (to something like 8% of the original viewstate size), I've gotten rid of a lot of ASP.NET Validators and rolled my own, and and I've been using ClientIdMode to reduce the length of the ID attributes of many asp.net elements. All of these combined significantly reduces the amount of HTML being sent to the client, (for example going from 2 megabytes for a request down to 500-600 kb - these are HUGE pages, mind you). The Issue One area which I've been having trouble reducing is simply the auto-generated 'name' attribute of input elements. <input name="ctl00$ctl00$ctl00$_main$_main$_bodyMatterPhase$_phaseTree$ctl00$_taskTree$ctl00$_taskDetails$_detailList$ctrl0$_row$_descriptionText" type="text" value="Investigation Week 1" maxlength="100" id="_taskTree_0__taskDetails_0__detailList_0__row_0__descriptionText_0" style="width:170px;"> As you can see above, the name attribute is 139 out of 297 characters, that's almost 50% of the tag markup taken up by that HUGE name. Does anyone have any ideas on how to stick a hook in somewhere in ASP.NET where I can somehow translate these or generate them differently; say instead of ctl00$ctl00$ctl00$_main$_main$_bodyMatterPhase$_phaseTree$ctl00$_taskTree$ctl00$_taskDetails$_detailList$ctrl0$_row$_descriptionText, it could be a GUID like 0x0AEED4B6445A11E08F873606E0D72085, which is 105 characters shorter. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

From my managed bean, if I do redirect, it works great (meaning that it execute my run() method inside my class that extends Runnable correctly).
