• How to implement or emulate an "abstract" OCUnit test class?

  I have a number of Objective-C classes organized in an inheritance hierarchy. They all share a common parent which implements all the behaviors shared among the children. Each child class defines a few methods that make it work, and the parent class raises an exception for the methods designed to be implemented/overridden by its children. This effectively makes the parent a pseudo-abstract class (since it's useless on its own) even though Objective-C doesn't explicitly support abstract classes. The crux of this problem is that I'm unit testing this class hierarchy using OCUnit, and the tests are structured similarly: one test class that exercises the common behavior, with a subclass corresponding to each of the child classes under test. However, running the test cases on the (effectively abstract) parent class is problematic, since the unit tests will fail in spectacular fashion without the key methods. (The alternative of repeating the common tests across 5 test classes is not really an acceptable option.) The non-ideal solution I've been using is to check (in each test method) whether the instance is the parent test class, and bail out if it is. This leads to repeated code in every test method, a problem that becomes increasingly annoying if one's unit tests are highly granular. In addition, all such tests are still executed and reported as successes, skewing the number of meaningful tests that were actually run. What I'd prefer is a way to signal to OCUnit "Don't run any tests in this class, only run them in its child classes." To my knowledge, there isn't (yet) a way to do that, something similar to a +(BOOL)isAbstractTest method I can implement/override. Any ideas on a better way to solve this problem with minimal repetition? Does OCUnit have any ability to flag a test class in this way, or is it time to file a Radar? Edit: Here's a link to the test code in question. Notice the frequent repetition of if (...) return; to start a method, including use of the NonConcreteClass() macro for brevity.

• Using $.get with jquery validation

  I'm trying to use the Jquery builtin validator on my page. The issue is that I have certain fields that only are required if the JobID (entered into another field) does not already exist in our database. I have a simple service which simply takes JobID and returns True or False based on whether the JobID exists, but I can't seem to get this information where I want it. I've tried half a dozen different ways of setting variables and calling functions within functions and still cannot get a way to simply return the value of that page (which I've been trying to access with $.get() ) to my validator, so that required is set to true when the Job does not exist and false if the job already exists. • priority queue with limited space: looking for a good algorithm

  This is not a homework. I'm using a small "priority queue" (implemented as array at the moment) for storing last N items with smallest value. This is a bit slow - O(N) item insertion time. Current implementation keeps track of largest item in array and discards any items that wouldn't fit into array, but I still would like to reduce number of operations further. looking for a priority queue algorithm that matches following requirements: queue can be implemented as array, which has fixed size and _cannot_ grow. Dynamic memory allocation during any queue operation is strictly forbidden. Anything that doesn't fit into array is discarded, but queue keeps all smallest elements ever encountered. O(log(N)) insertion time (i.e. adding element into queue should take up to O(log(N))). (optional) O(1) access for *largest* item in queue (queue stores *smallest* items, so the largest item will be discarded first and I'll need them to reduce number of operations) Easy to implement/understand. Ideally - something similar to binary search - once you understand it, you remember it forever. Elements need not to be sorted in any way. I just need to keep N smallest value ever encountered. When I'll need them, I'll access all of them at once. So technically it doesn't have to be a queue, I just need N last smallest values to be stored. I initially thought about using binary heaps (they can be easily implemented via arrays), but apparently they don't behave well when array can't grow anymore. Linked lists and arrays will require extra time for moving things around. stl priority queue grows and uses dynamic allocation (I may be wrong about it, though). So, any other ideas?

  Hi, I making a game leaderboard on facebook. I'm not using connect but working inside the canvas. When I try to load the images from facebook it gives me the following error.   I am writing a PL/SQL procedure that loads some data from Schema A into Schema B. They are both very different schemas and I can't change the structure of Schema B. Columns in various tables in Schema A (joined together in a view) need to be inserted into Schema B as key=value pairs in 2 columns in a table, each on a separate row. For example, an employee's first name might be present as employee.firstname in Schema A, but would need to be entered in Schema B as: id=>1, key=>'A123', value=>'Smith' There are almost 100 keys, with the potential for more to be added in future. This means I don't really want to hardcode any of these keys. Sample code: create table schema_a_employees ( emp_id number(8,0), firstname varchar2(50), surname varchar2(50) ); insert into schema_a_employees values ( 1, 'James', 'Smith' ); insert into schema_a_employees values ( 2, 'Fred', 'Jones' ); create table schema_b_values ( emp_id number(8,0), the_key varchar2(5), the_value varchar2(200) ); I thought an elegant solution would most likely involve a lookup table to determine what value to insert for each key, and doesn't involve effectively hardcoding dozens of similar statements like.... insert into schema_b_values ( 1, 'A123', v_firstname ); insert into schema_b_values ( 1, 'B123', v_surname ); What I'd like to be able to do is have a local lookup table in Schema A that lists all the keys from Schema B, along with a column that gives the name of the column in the table in Schema A that should be used to populate, e.g. key "A123" in Schema B should be populated with the value of the column "firstname" in Schema A, e.g. create table schema_a_lookup ( the_key varchar2(5), the_local_field_name varchar2(50) ); insert into schema_a_lookup values ( 'A123', 'firstname' ); insert into schema_a_lookup values ( 'B123', 'surname' ); But I'm not sure how I could dynamically use values from the lookup table to tell Oracle which columns to use. So my question is, is there an elegant solution to populate schema_b_values table with the data from schema_a_employees without hardcoding for every possible key (i.e. A123, B123, etc)? Cheers.

• A problem with connected points and determining geometry figures based on points' location analysis

  In school we have a really hard problem, and still no one from the students has solved it yet. Take a look at the picture below: http://d.imagehost.org/0422/mreza.gif That's a kind of a network of connected points, which doesn't end and each point has its own number representing it. Let say the numbers are like this: 1-23-456-78910-etc. etc.. (You can't see the number 5 or 8,9... on the picture but they are there and their position is obvious, the point in middle of 4 and 6 is 5 and so on). 1 is connected to 2 and 3, 2 is connected to 1,3,5 and 4 etc. The numbers 1-2-3 indicate they represent a triangle on the picture, but the numbers 1-4-6 do not because 4 is not directly connected with 6. Let's look at 2-3-4-5, that's a parallelogram (you know why), but 4-6-7-9 is NOT a parallelogram because the in this problem there's a rule which says all the sides must be equal for all the figures - triangles and parallelograms. Also there are hexagons, for ex. 4-5-7-9-13-12 is a hexagon - all sides must be equal here too. 12345 - that doesn't represent anything, so we ignore it. I think i explained the problem well. The actual problem which is given to us by using an input of numbers like above to determine if that's a triangle/parallelogram/hexagon(according to the described rules). For ex: 1 2 3 - triangle 11 13 24 26 -parallelogram 1 2 3 4 5 - nothing 11 23 13 25 - nothing 3 2 5 - triangle I was reading computational geometry in order to solve this, but i gave up quickly, nothing seems to help here. One friend told me this site so i decided to give it a try. If you have any ideas about how to solve this, please reply, you can use pseudo code or c++ whatever. Thank you very much.

• Handling Incoming Mail to Multiple Recipients in PHP

  Alright, this may take a moment or two to explain: I'm working on creating an Email<SMS Bridge (like Teleflip). I have a few set parameters to work in: Dreamhost Webhosting PHP 5 (without PEAR) Postfix What I have right now, is a catch-all email address that forwards the email sent to a shell account. The shell account in turn forwards it to my PHP script. The PHP script reads it, strips a few Email Headers in an effort to make sure it sends properly, then forwards it to the number specified as the recipient. [email protected] of course sends an SMS to +1 (555) 123-4567. This works really well, as I am parsing the To field and grabbing just the email address it is sending to. However, what I realized that I did not account for is multiple recipients. For example, an email sent to both 5551234567 and 1235554567 (using the To line, the CC line, or any combination of those). The way email works of course, is I get two emails received, end up parsing each of them separately, and 5551234567 ends up getting the same message twice. What is the best way to handle this situation, so that each number specified in TO and CC can get one copy of the message. In addition, though I doubt its possible: Is there a way to handle BCC the same way?

  As a result of changes in the company, we have to rearrange our sitting plan: one room with 10 desks in it. Some desks are more popular than others for number of reasons. One solution would be to draw a desk number from a hat. We think there is a better way to do it. We have 10 desks and 10 people. Lets give every person in this contest 50 hypothetical tokens to bid on the desks. There is no limit of how much you bid on one desk, you can put all 50, which would be saying "I want to sit only here, period". You can also say "I do not care" by giving every desk 5 tokens. Important note: nobody knows what other people are doing. Everyone has to decide based only on his/her best interest (sounds familiar?) Since there are only 10 people, I think we can brute force it looking into all possible configurations, but I was wondering it there is a better algorithm for solving this kind of problems?

• Counter that will remember it's value

  I have a task to operate on complex number. Each number consists of double r = real part, double i = imaginary part and String name. Name must be set within constructor, so I've created int counter, then I'm sending it's value to setNextName function and get name letter back. Unfortunately incrementing this 'counter' value works only within costructor and then it is once again set to 0. How to deal with that?Some constant value? And second problem is that I also need to provide setNextNames(char c) function that will change the counter current value.   I'm a C# programmer constrained to write VB.NET code. While exploring NHibernate further for my current client, I encountered FluentNHibernate, which I find real attractive. But now, I wonder how to "translate" this C# code for component mapping into VB.NET code: Component(x => x.Address, m => { m.Map(x => x.Number); m.Map(x => x.Street); m.Map(x => x.PostCode); }); I know from here: Component(Of Client)(Function(c) c.Address, ...) what I miss is how to continue with the brackets in VB.NET, since there's no Begin End keywords or so. EDIT 1: Following Mr. JaredPar instructions, I figured that his solution might work. If we take the time to read his answer, we may notice that we both don't know what the MType is within his solution. I might have found out that the MType is: FluentNHibernate.Mapping.ComponentPart(Of TComponent) Thus, TComponent is, from my understanding, an anonymous type that I shall parameter to use. From this point of view, since I wish to map the properties of my Address object, replacing TComponent in my help method signature seems not to work. Private Sub MapAdresseHelper(Of Adresse)(ByVal a As FluentNHibernate.Mapping.ComponentPart(Of Adresse)) a.Map(Function(m) m.Number) a.Map(Function(m) m.Street).Length(50) a.Map(Function(m) m.PostCode).Length(10) End Sub The error I get is that my Address class doesn't have a property member named Street, for instance. It sees my Address type, it recognizes it, but it seems buggy somehow. I guess VBNET is poorly designed for lambda expressions and is less evolved than C# (Sorry, a bit of frustration due to the constraint of working with it and not being capable of doing things VERY easily done in C#.)   Hello, I am trying to figure out how to convert an "external relative path" to an absolute one: I'd really like a function that will do the following: $path = "/search?q=query"; $host = "http://google.com"; $abspath = reltoabs($host, $path); And have $abspath equal to "http://google.com/search?q=query" The problem is that it is not guaranteed to be in that format, and it could already be absolute, or be pointing to a different host entirely, and I'm not quite sure how to approach this.   Hello, I currently am displaying dates as follows "yyyy/mm/dd" in a wordpress blog (it needs to be input in this format because a plugin is using it to define a post expiration date).
