  • Are there any GOOD Chef, Chef-Server and Chef-Client tutorials out there?

    Hi there, Chef from Opscode seems to be really useful for configuring servers and such, but trying to follow their documentation is a little difficult. Some terms are defined after they are used, and definitions sometimes reference new terms that you haven't yet encountered. Anyone know of any GOOD tutorials/walk-throughs for getting a good understanding of Chef, Chef-Server and Chef-Client? I remember seeing one video presentation online, but it barely scratched the surface.

    I am trying to create an iphone app for a large website (as big as amazon.com) and it involves using cookies and what not to get authenticated via the apache intercepter and access the web services exposed by the main website. For that I am looking for strategies to go about developing it. I am new to iphone dev and mostly looking for some architectural guidance. Does anyone know how does apps like ebay and amazon work seamlessly across the website and iphone?

  • Convert PDF to Word offline?

    Is there any way to convert a PDF to Word document via code? I'm aware of several online sites that will do it however we cannot use them due to security concerns. Opening the PDF in Adobe, copying all of the text and pasting into Word will not work as all of the text ends up jumbled around the place. Is there any kind of utility that might accomplish converting PDF to Word (or rtf)?

  • Using R to download zipped data file, extract, and import data

I tried something like: fileName <- "http://www.newcl.org/data/zipfiles/a1.zip" con1 <- unz(fileName, filename="a1.dat", open = "r") but I feel as if I'm a long way off. Any thoughts?

    Hi all, A Grails app I'm working on is becoming pretty big, and it would be good to refactor it into several modules, so that we don't have to redeploy the whole thing every time. In your opinion, what is the best practice to split a Grails app in several modules? In particular I'd like to create a package of domain classes + relevant services and use it in the app as a module. Is this possible? Is it possible to do it with plugins? Cheers, Mulone

I am aware that there are some third party softwares available, that would give me the list of the users online but i don't want to do that. Does anyone know how this can be achieved in asp.net?     As part of a homework assignment in Lisp, I am to use apply or funcall on any predicates I find. My question (uncovered in the coursework) is: how do I know when I've found a predicate in my list of arguments? I've done some basic google searching and come up with nothing so far. We're allowed to use Lisp references for the assignment - even a pointer to a good online resource (and perhaps a specific page within one) would be great!

    im moving from a c# VS2008 world into the mac world and I just wanted to know how I can create a quick little command line based application so that I can write many little objective-c apps without worrying about creating an iPhone app or whatever. Which projects do I create in xcode? I can see the Command Line Tool under "Mac os x" but the only options for the type is "C", "C++", "Core Data", "Core Foundation", "Core Services" and "Foundation" but no simple objective c project?     I have a PC on remote connected by network, but it occasionally crashes or is restarted by remote users. After the restart, some services and applications have to be in running status. So I would like to find out the reboot as soon as possible. I think PS may be a good choice with some scripts so that I could make remote call to get the last reboot timestamp information. Is there any way to get a remote Windows XP last reboot timestamp by using PowerShell 2.0?

  • Visual Studio appears to randomly adopt american keyboard layout

    Gah! this is really causing me hassle today. Suddenly without warning '@' (at symbol) and '"' (double quote) are trading places on my keyboard but ONLY in Visual Studio 2008 !!! I can't seem to find anything in help or online to explain/remedy this. Is there some keyboard shortcut I am inadvertantly executing?? I rebooted my PC and it went away for an hour or two and then suddenly came back. Oh the insanity :(
