  • Which languages support class replacement?

    - by Alix
    Hi, I'm writing my master thesis, which deals with AOP in .NET, among other things, and I mention the lack of support for replacing classes at load time as an important factor in the fact that there are currently no .NET AOP frameworks that perform true dynamic weaving -- not without imposing the requirement that woven classes must extend ContextBoundObject or MarshalByRefObject or expose all their semantics on an interface. You can however do this in Java thanks to ClassFileTransformer: You extend ClassFileTransformer. You subscribe to the class load event. On class load, you rewrite the class and replace it. All this is very well, but my project director has asked me, quite in the last minute, to give him a list of languages that do / do not support class replacement. I really have no time to look for this now: I wouldn't feel comfortable just doing a superficial research and potentially putting erroneous information in my thesis. So I ask you, oh almighty programming community, can you help out? Of course, I'm not asking you to research this yourselves. Simply, if you know for sure that a particular language supports / doesn't support this, leave it as an answer. If you're not sure please don't forget to point it out. Thanks so much!

  • Cocos2d and MPMoviePlayerViewController - NSNotificationCenter not working

    - by digi_0315
    I'm using cocos2d with MPMoviePlayerViewController class, but when I tryed to catch notification status when the movie is finished I got this error: Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '-[NSCFString movieFinishedCallback]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x5d23730' my playVideoController.m are: @implementation PlayVideoViewController +(id) scene{ CCScene *scene = [CCScene node]; CCLayer *layer = [credits node]; [scene addChild: layer]; return scene; } -(id)initWithPath:(NSString *)moviePath{ if ((self = [super init])){ movieURL = [NSURL fileURLWithPath:moviePath]; [movieURL retain]; playerViewController = [[MPMoviePlayerViewController alloc] initWithContentURL:movieURL]; player = [playerViewController moviePlayer]; [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] addObserver:self selector:@selector(movieFinishedCallback) name:MPMoviePlayerPlaybackDidFinishNotification object:player]; [[[CCDirector sharedDirector] openGLView] addSubview:playerViewController.view]; [player play]; } return self; } -(void)movieFinishedCallback{ CCLOG(@"video finished!!"); } in .h: #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> #import "cocos2d.h" #import <MediaPlayer/MediaPlayer.h> @interface PlayVideoViewController : CCLayer { NSURL *movieURL; MPMoviePlayerViewController *playerViewController; MPMoviePlayerController *player; } +(id) scene; @end and I call it in appDelegate.m: - (void) applicationDidFinishLaunching:(UIApplication*)application { CC_DIRECTOR_INIT(); CCDirector *director = [CCDirector sharedDirector]; [director setDeviceOrientation:kCCDeviceOrientationLandscapeLeft]; EAGLView *glView = [director openGLView]; [glView setMultipleTouchEnabled:YES]; [CCTexture2D setDefaultAlphaPixelFormat:kTexture2DPixelFormat_RGBA8888];//kEAGLColorFormatRGBA8 NSString *path = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:@"intro" ofType:@"mov" inDirectory:nil]; vi ewController = [[[PlayVideoViewController alloc] initWithPath:path] autorelease]; } what i'm doing wrong? anyone can help me please?? • Unity in C# for Platform Specific Implementations

    - by DxCK
    My program has heavy interaction with the operating system through Win32API functions. now i want to migrate my program to run under Mono under Linux (No wine), and this requires different implementations to the interaction with the operating system. I started designing a code that can have different implementation for difference platform and is extensible for new future platforms. public interface ISomeInterface { void SomePlatformSpecificOperation(); } [PlatformSpecific(PlatformID.Unix)] public class SomeImplementation : ISomeInterface { #region ISomeInterface Members public void SomePlatformSpecificOperation() { Console.WriteLine("From SomeImplementation"); } #endregion } public class PlatformSpecificAttribute : Attribute { private PlatformID _platform; public PlatformSpecificAttribute(PlatformID platform) { _platform = platform; } public PlatformID Platform { get { return _platform; } } } public static class PlatformSpecificUtils { public static IEnumerable<Type> GetImplementationTypes<T>() { foreach (Assembly assembly in AppDomain.CurrentDomain.GetAssemblies()) { foreach (Type type in assembly.GetTypes()) { if (typeof(T).IsAssignableFrom(type) && type != typeof(T) && IsPlatformMatch(type)) { yield return type; } } } } private static bool IsPlatformMatch(Type type) { return GetPlatforms(type).Any(platform => platform == Environment.OSVersion.Platform); } private static IEnumerable<PlatformID> GetPlatforms(Type type) { return type.GetCustomAttributes(typeof(PlatformSpecificAttribute), false) .Select(obj => ((PlatformSpecificAttribute)obj).Platform); } } class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { Type first = PlatformSpecificUtils.GetImplementationTypes<ISomeInterface>().FirstOrDefault(); } } I see two problems with this design: I can't force the implementations of ISomeInterface to have a PlatformSpecificAttribute. Multiple implementations can be marked with the same PlatformID, and i dont know witch to use in the Main. Using the first one is ummm ugly. How to solve those problems? Can you suggest another design?

  • Accept templated parameter of stl_container_type<string>::iterator

    - by Rodion Ingles
    I have a function where I have a container which holds strings (eg vector<string>, set<string>, list<string>) and, given a start iterator and an end iterator, go through the iterator range processing the strings. Currently the function is declared like this: template< typename ContainerIter> void ProcessStrings(ContainerIter begin, ContainerIter end); Now this will accept any type which conforms to the implicit interface of implementing operator*, prefix operator++ and whatever other calls are in the function body. What I really want to do is have a definition like the one below which explicitly restricts the amount of input (pseudocode warning): template< typename Container<string>::iterator> void ProcessStrings(Container<string>::iterator begin, Container<string>::iterator end); so that I can use it as such: vector<string> str_vec; list<string> str_list; set<SomeOtherClass> so_set; ProcessStrings(str_vec.begin(), str_vec.end()); // OK ProcessStrings(str_list.begin(), str_list.end()); //OK ProcessStrings(so_set.begin(), so_set.end()); // Error Essentially, what I am trying to do is restrict the function specification to make it obvious to a user of the function what it accepts and if the code fails to compile they get a message that they are using the wrong parameter types rather than something in the function body that XXX function could not be found for XXX class.

  • Reverse geocode coordinates to street address and setting as subtitle in annotation?

    - by Krismutt
    Hey everybody! Basically I wanna reverse geocode my coordinates for my annotation and show the address as the subtitle for the annotation. I just cant figure out how to do it... savePosition.h #import <Foundation/Foundation.h> #import <MapKit/MapKit.h> #import <MapKit/MKReverseGeocoder.h> #import <AddressBook/AddressBook.h> @interface savePosition : NSObject <MKAnnotation, MKReverseGeocoderDelegate> { CLLocationCoordinate2D coordinate; } @property (nonatomic, readonly) CLLocationCoordinate2D coordinate; -(id)initWithCoordinate:(CLLocationCoordinate2D) coordinate; - (NSString *)subtitle; - (NSString *)title; @end savePosition.m @synthesize coordinate; -(NSString *)subtitle{ return [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%f", streetAddress]; } -(NSString *)title{ return @"Saved position"; } -(id)initWithCoordinate:(CLLocationCoordinate2D) coor{ coordinate=coor; NSLog(@"%f,%f",coor.latitude,coor.longitude); return self; MKReverseGeocoder *geocoder = [[MKReverseGeocoder alloc] initWithCoordinate:coordinate]; geocoder.delegate = self; [geocoder start]; } - (void)reverseGeocoder:(MKReverseGeocoder *)geocoder didFailWithError:(NSError *)error { } - (void)reverseGeocoder:(MKReverseGeocoder *)geocoder didFindPlacemark:(MKPlacemark *)placemark{ NSString *streetAddress = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@", [placemark.addressDictionary objectForKey:kABPersonAddressStreetKey]]; } @end any ideas?? Thanks in advance!

  • Remove this URL string when login fails and simply show div error

    - by Anagio
    My developer built our registration page to display a div when logins failed based on a string in the URL. When logins fail this is added to the URL /login?msg=invalid The PHP in my login.phtml which displays the error messages based on the msg= parameter is <?php $msg = ""; $msg = $_GET['msg']; if($msg==""){ $showMsg = ""; } elseif($msg=="invalid"){ $showMsg = ' <div class="alert alert-error"> <a class="close" data-dismiss="alert">×</a> <strong>Error!</strong> Login or password is incorrect! </div>'; } elseif($msg=="disabled"){ $showMsg = "Your account has been disabled."; } elseif($msg==2){ $showMsg = "Your account is not activated. Please check your email."; } ?> In the controller the redirect to that URL is else //email id does not exist in our database { //redirecting back with invalid email(invalid) msg=invalid. $this->_redirect($url."?msg=invalid"); } I know there are a few other validation types for disabled accounts etc. I'm in the process of redesigning the entire interface and would like to get rid of this kind of validation so that the div tags display when logins fail but not show the URL strings. If it matters the new div I want to display is <div class="alert alert-error alert-login"> Email or password incorrect </div> I'd like to replace the php my self in my login.phtml and controller but not a good programmer. What can I replace $this->_redirect($url."?msg=invalid"); with so that no strings are added to the URL and display the appropriate div tags? Thanks

  • Dynamic Auto updating (to UI, Grid) binding list in C# Winform?

    - by Dhana
    I'm not even sure if i'm doing this correctly. But basically I have a list of objects that are built out of a class/interface. From there, I am binding the list to a datagrid view that is on a Windows Form (C#) Here the list is a Sync list which will auto update the UI, in this case datagridview. Every thing works fine now, but now i would like to have the List should have an dynamic object, that is the object will have by default two static property (ID, Name), and at run time user will select remaining properties. These should be bind to the data grid. Any update on the list should be auto reflected in the grid. I am aware that, we can use dynamic objects, but i would like to know , how to approach for solution, datagridview.DataSource = myData; // myData is AutoUpdateList<IPersonInfo> Now IPersonInfo is the type of object, need to add dynamic properties for this type at runtime. public class AutoUpdateList<T> : System.ComponentModel.BindingList<T> { private System.ComponentModel.ISynchronizeInvoke _SyncObject; private System.Action<System.ComponentModel.ListChangedEventArgs> _FireEventAction; public AutoUpdateList() : this(null) { } public AutoUpdateList(System.ComponentModel.ISynchronizeInvoke syncObject) { _SyncObject = syncObject; _FireEventAction = FireEvent; } protected override void OnListChanged(System.ComponentModel.ListChangedEventArgs args) { try { if (_SyncObject == null) { FireEvent(args); } else { _SyncObject.Invoke(_FireEventAction, new object[] { args }); } } catch (Exception) { // TODO: Log Here } } private void FireEvent(System.ComponentModel.ListChangedEventArgs args) { base.OnListChanged(args); } } Could you help out on this?

  • keyUp event heard?: Overridden NSView method

    - by Old McStopher
    UPDATED: I'm now overriding the NSView keyUp method from a NSView subclass set to first responder like below, but am still not seeing evidence that it is being called. @implementation svsView - (BOOL)acceptsFirstResponder { return YES; } - (void)keyUp:(NSEvent *)event { //--do key up stuff-- NSLog(@"key up'd!"); } @end --ORIGINAL POST-- I'm new to Cocoa and Obj-C and am trying to do a (void)keyUp: from within the implementation of my controller class (which itself is of type NSController). I'm not sure if this is the right place to put it, though. I have a series of like buttons each set to a unique key equivalent (IB button attribute) and each calls my (IBAction)keyInput method which then passes the identity of each key onto another object. This runs just fine, but I also want to track when each key is released. --ORIGINAL [bad] EXAMPLE-- @implementation svsController //init //IBActions - (IBAction)keyInput:(id)sender { //--do key down stuff-- } - (void)keyUp:(NSEvent *)event { //--do key up stuff-- } @end Upon fail, I also tried the keyUp as an IBAction (instead of void), like the user-defined keyInput is, and hooked it up to the appropriate buttons in Interface Builder, but then keyUp was only called when the keys were down and not when released. (Which I kind of figured would happen.) Pardon my noobery, but should I be putting this method in another class or doing something differently? Wherever it is, though, I need it be able to access objects owned by the controller class. Thanks for any insight you may have.

  • How do I create a graph from this datastructure?

    - by Shawn Mclean
    I took this data structure from this A* tutorial: public interface IHasNeighbours<N> { IEnumerable<N> Neighbours { get; } } public class Path<TNode> : IEnumerable<TNode> { public TNode LastStep { get; private set; } public Path<TNode> PreviousSteps { get; private set; } public double TotalCost { get; private set; } private Path(TNode lastStep, Path<TNode> previousSteps, double totalCost) { LastStep = lastStep; PreviousSteps = previousSteps; TotalCost = totalCost; } public Path(TNode start) : this(start, null, 0) { } public Path<TNode> AddStep(TNode step, double stepCost) { return new Path<TNode>(step, this, TotalCost + stepCost); } public IEnumerator<TNode> GetEnumerator() { for (Path<TNode> p = this; p != null; p = p.PreviousSteps) yield return p.LastStep; } IEnumerator IEnumerable.GetEnumerator() { return this.GetEnumerator(); } } I have no idea how to create a simple graph with. How do I add something like the following undirected graph using C#: Basically I'd like to know how to connect nodes. I have my own datastructures that I can already determine the neighbors and the distance. I'd now like to convert that into this posted datastructure so I can run it through the AStar algorithm. I was seeking something more like: Path<EdgeNode> startGraphNode = new Path<EdgeNode>(tempStartNode); startGraphNode.AddNeighbor(someOtherNode, distance);

  • Silverlight - C# and LINQ - Ordering By Multiple Fields

    - by user70192
    Hello, I have an ObservableCollection of Task objects. Each Task has the following properties: AssignedTo Category Title AssignedDate I'm giving the user an interface to select which of these fields they was to sort by. In some cases, a user may want to sort by up to three of these properties. How do I dynamically build a LINQ statement that will allow me to sort by the selected fields in either ascending or descending order? Currently, I'm trying the following, but it appears to only sort by the last sort applied: var sortedTasks = from task in tasks select task; if (userWantsToSortByAssignedTo == true) { if (sortByAssignedToDescending == true) sortedTasks = sortedTasks.OrderByDescending(t => t.AssignedTo); else sortedTasks = sortedTasks.OrderBy(t => t.AssignedTo); } if (userWantsToSortByCategory == true) { if (sortByCategoryDescending == true) sortedTasks = sortedTasks.OrderByDescending(t => t.Category); else sortedTasks = sortedTasks.OrderBy(t => t.Category); } Is there an elegant way to dynamicaly append order clauses to a LINQ statement?

  • Why does this program take up so much memory?

    - by Adrian
    I am learning Objective-C. I am trying to release all of the memory that I use. So, I wrote a program to test if I am doing it right: #import <Foundation/Foundation.h> #define DEFAULT_NAME @"Unknown" @interface Person : NSObject { NSString *name; } @property (copy) NSString * name; @end @implementation Person @synthesize name; - (void) dealloc { [name release]; [super dealloc]; } - (id) init { if (self = [super init]) { name = DEFAULT_NAME; } return self; } @end int main (int argc, const char * argv[]) { NSAutoreleasePool * pool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; Person *person = [[Person alloc] init]; NSString *str; int i; for (i = 0; i < 1e9; i++) { str = [NSString stringWithCString: "Name" encoding: NSUTF8StringEncoding]; person.name = str; [str release]; } [person release]; [pool drain]; return 0; } I am using a mac with snow leopard. To test how much memory this is using, I open Activity Monitor at the same time that it is running. After a couple of seconds, it is using gigabytes of memory. What can I do to make it not use so much?

  • Java: autofiltering list?

    - by Jason S
    I have a series of items arriving which are used in one of my data structures, and I need a way to keep track of those items that are retained. interface Item {} class Foo implements Item { ... } class Baz implements Item { ... } class StateManager { List<Foo> fooList; Map<Integer, Baz> bazMap; public List<Item> getItems(); } What I want is that if I do the following: for (int i = 0; i < SOME_LARGE_NUMBER; ++i) { /* randomly do one of the following: * 1) put a new Foo somewhere in the fooList * 2) delete one or more members from the fooList * 3) put a new Baz somewhere in the bazMap * 4) delete one or more members from the bazMap */ } then if I make a call to StateManager.getItems(), I want to return a list of those Foo and Baz items, which are found in the fooList and the bazMap, in the order they were added. Items that were deleted or displaced from fooList and bazMap should not be in the returned list. How could I implement this? SOME_LARGE_NUMBER is large enough that I don't have the memory available to retain all the Foo and Baz items, and then filter them.

  • using STI and ActiveRecordBase<> with full FindAll

    - by oillio
    Is it possible to use generic support with single table inheritance, and still be able to FindAll of the base class? As a bonus question, will I be able to use ActiveRecordLinqBase< as well? I do love those queries. More detail: Say I have the following classes defined: public interface ICompany { int ID { get; set; } string Name { get; set; } } [ActiveRecord("companies", DiscriminatorColumn="type", DiscriminatorType="String", DiscriminatorValue="NA")] public abstract class Company<T> : ActiveRecordBase<T>, ICompany { [PrimaryKey] private int Id { get; set; } [Property] public String Name { get; set; } } [ActiveRecord(DiscriminatorValue="firm")] public class Firm : Company<Firm> { [Property] public string Description { get; set; } } [ActiveRecord(DiscriminatorValue="client")] public class Client : Company<Client> { [Property] public int ChargeRate { get; set; } } This works fine for most cases. I can do things like: var x = Client.FindAll(); But sometimes I want all of the companies. If I was not using generics I could do: var x = (Company[]) FindAll(Company); Client a = (Client)x[0]; Firm b = (Firm)x[1]; Is there a way to write a FindAll that returns an array of ICompany's that can then be typecast into their respective types? Something like: var x = (ICompany[]) FindAll(Company<ICompany>); Client a = (Client)x[0]; Or maybe I am going about implementing the generic support all wrong?

  • What's the best way to only output a tag if it exists in XSL?

    - by Morinar
    I'm working on an interface with a 3rd party app that basically needs to take XML that was spat out by the app and convert it into XML our system can deal with. It's basically just applying a stylesheet to the original XML to make it looks like "our" XML. I've noticed that in other stylesheets we have, there are constructs like this: <xsl:for-each select="State"> <StateAbbreviation> <xsl:value-of select="."/> </StateAbbreviation> </xsl:for-each> Basically, the "in" XML has a State tag that I need to output as our recognized StateAbbreviation tag. However, I want to ONLY output the StateAbbreviation tag if the "in" XML contains the State tag. The block above accomplishes this just fine, but is not very intuitive (at least it wasn't to me), as every time I see a for-each I assume there is more than one, whereas in these cases there is 0 or 1. My question: is that a standard-ish construct? If not, is there a more preferred way to do it? I could obviously check the string length (which is also being done in other stylesheets), but would like to do it the same, "best" way everywhere (assuming of course that a "best" way exists. Advice? Suggestions?

  • iPhone: Calling dealloc on parentViewController causes an exception

    - by arielcamus
    Hi, I'm dealing with viewDidUnload and dealloc methods and I've founded a problem when calling [super dealloc]; in parent view controller. I have a lot of view controllers with custom code which I have putted outside on a parent view controller. So, when defining my view controllers I set a reference to the super class: @interface LoginViewController : AbstractViewController Then, at the dealloc method I call the AbstractViewController dealloc method: //(Login View Controller code) - (void)dealloc { [user release]; [passwd release]; [super dealloc]; } [super dealloc] execute the following code: //(Abstract View Controller code) - (void)dealloc { [dbUtils release]; [loadingView release]; [super dealloc]; } If I simulate a memory warning on iPhone Simulator, the following exception is thrown: 2010-03-03 11:27:45.805 MyApp[71563:40b] Received simulated memory warning. 2010-03-03 11:27:45.808 MyApp[71563:40b] *** -[LoginViewController isViewLoaded]: message sent to deallocated instance 0x13b51b0 kill quit However, if I comment the [super dealloc] line in AbstractViewController the exception is not thrown and my app still running. Thank you for your help once again!

  • How do I call an Obj-C method from Javascript?

    - by gnfti
    Hi all, I'm developing a native iPhone app using Phonegap, so everything is done in HTML and JS. I am using the Flurry SDK for analytics and want to use the [FlurryAPI logEvent:@"EVENT_NAME"]; method to track events. Is there a way to do this in Javascript? So when tracking a link I would imagine using something like <a onClick="flurryTrackEvent("Click_Rainbows")" href="#Rainbows">Rainbows</a> <a onClick="flurryTrackEvent("Click_Unicorns")" href="#Unicorns">Unicorns</a> "FlurryAPI.h" has the following: @interface FlurryAPI : NSObject { } + (void)startSession:(NSString *)apiKey; + (void)logEvent:(NSString *)eventName; + (void)logEvent:(NSString *)eventName withParameters:(NSDictionary *)parameters; + (void)logError:(NSString *)errorID message:(NSString *)message exception:(NSException *)exception; + (void)setUserID:(NSString *)userID; + (void)setEventLoggingEnabled:(BOOL)value; + (void)setServerURL:(NSString *)url; + (void)setSessionReportsOnCloseEnabled:(BOOL)sendSessionReportsOnClose; @end I'm only interested in the logEvent method(s). If it's not clear by now, I'm comfortable with JS but a recovering Obj-C noob. I've read the Apple docs but the examples described there are all for newly declared methods and I imagine this could be simpler to implement because the Obj-C method(s) are already defined. Thank you in advance for any input.

  • How do I make my ArrayList Thread-Safe? Another approach to problem in Java?

    - by thechiman
    I have an ArrayList that I want to use to hold RaceCar objects that extend the Thread class as soon as they are finished executing. A class, called Race, handles this ArrayList using a callback method that the RaceCar object calls when it is finished executing. The callback method, addFinisher(RaceCar finisher), adds the RaceCar object to the ArrayList. This is supposed to give the order in which the Threads finish executing. I know that ArrayList isn't synchronized and thus isn't thread-safe. I tried using the Collections.synchronizedCollection(c Collection) method by passing in a new ArrayList and assigning the returned Collection to an ArrayList. However, this gives me a compiler error: Race.java:41: incompatible types found : java.util.Collection required: java.util.ArrayList finishingOrder = Collections.synchronizedCollection(new ArrayList(numberOfRaceCars)); Here is the relevant code: public class Race implements RaceListener { private Thread[] racers; private ArrayList finishingOrder; //Make an ArrayList to hold RaceCar objects to determine winners finishingOrder = Collections.synchronizedCollection(new ArrayList(numberOfRaceCars)); //Fill array with RaceCar objects for(int i=0; i<numberOfRaceCars; i++) { racers[i] = new RaceCar(laps, inputs[i]); //Add this as a RaceListener to each RaceCar ((RaceCar) racers[i]).addRaceListener(this); } //Implement the one method in the RaceListener interface public void addFinisher(RaceCar finisher) { finishingOrder.add(finisher); } What I need to know is, am I using a correct approach and if not, what should I use to make my code thread-safe? Thanks for the help!

  • Hiding a Bar button item in the view

    - by devb0yax
    How can you able to hide the (done) bar button item in a view? Basically, I have a view controller added with navigation bar (in IB) then, I also added a bar button item into the nav bar. I just want initially the (done) bar button item is hidden.. when input is in the text view the (done) button is already visible. Any idea on this implementation on a view controller? Here's my sample code: @interface MyTextViewViewController : UIViewController <UITextViewDelegate> { UITextView *m_textView; UIBarButtonItem *doneBarButtonItem; } @property(nonatomic,retain) IBOutlet UITextView *m_textView; @property(nonatomic,retain) IBOutlet UIBarButtonItem *doneBarButtonItem; - (IBAction)saveAction:(id)sender; .m file: - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; doneBarButtonItem.hidden = YES; --> compile error!!! } - (void)textViewDidBeginEditing:(UITextView *)textView { doneBarButtonItem.hidden = NO; --> compile error!!! } - (IBAction)saveAction:(id)sender { doneBarButtonItem.hidden = YES; --> compile error!!! ... }

  • [Cocoa] Placing an NSTimer in a separate thread

    - by ndg
    I'm trying to setup an NSTimer in a separate thread so that it continues to fire when users interact with the UI of my application. This seems to work, but Leaks reports a number of issues - and I believe I've narrowed it down to my timer code. Currently what's happening is that updateTimer tries to access an NSArrayController (timersController) which is bound to an NSTableView in my applications interface. From there, I grab the first selected row and alter its timeSpent column. From reading around, I believe what I should be trying to do is execute the updateTimer function on the main thread, rather than in my timers secondary thread. I'm posting here in the hopes that someone with more experience can tell me if that's the only thing I'm doing wrong. Having read Apple's documentation on Threading, I've found it an overwhelmingly large subject area. NSThread *timerThread = [[[NSThread alloc] initWithTarget:self selector:@selector(startTimerThread) object:nil] autorelease]; [timerThread start]; -(void)startTimerThread { NSAutoreleasePool *pool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; NSRunLoop *runLoop = [NSRunLoop currentRunLoop]; activeTimer = [[NSTimer scheduledTimerWithTimeInterval:1.0 target:self selector:@selector(updateTimer:) userInfo:nil repeats:YES] retain]; [runLoop run]; [pool release]; } -(void)updateTimer:(NSTimer *)timer { NSArray *selectedTimers = [timersController selectedObjects]; id selectedTimer = [selectedTimers objectAtIndex:0]; NSNumber *currentTimeSpent = [selectedTimer timeSpent]; [selectedTimer setValue:[NSNumber numberWithInt:[currentTimeSpent intValue]+1] forKey:@"timeSpent"]; } -(void)stopTimer { [activeTimer invalidate]; [activeTimer release]; }

  • How to encapsulate a third party complex object structure?

    - by tangens
    Motivation Currently I'm using the java parser japa to create an abstract syntax tree (AST) of a java file. With this AST I'm doing some code generation (e.g.: if there's an annotation on a method, create some other source files, ...) Problem When my code generation becomes more complex, I've to dive deeper into the structure of the AST (e.g. I have to use visitors to extract some type information of method parameters). But I'm not sure if I want to stay with japa or if I will change the parser library later. Because my code generator uses freemarker (which isn't good at automatic refactoring) I want the interface that it uses to access the AST information to be stable, even if I decide to change the java parser. Question What's the best way to encapsulate complex datastructures of third party libraries? I could create my own datatypes and copy the parts of the AST that I need into these. I could create lots of specialized access methods that work with the AST and create exactly the infos I need (e.g. the fully qualified return type of a method as one string, or the first template parameter of a class). I could create wrapper classes for the japa datastructures I currently need and embed the japa types inside, so that I can delegate requests to the japa types and transform the resulting japa types to my wrapper classes again. Which solution should I take? Are there other (better) solutions to this problem?

  • How good is the memory mapped Circular Buffer on Wikipedia?

    - by abroun
    I'm trying to implement a circular buffer in C, and have come across this example on Wikipedia. It looks as if it would provide a really nice interface for anyone reading from the buffer, as reads which wrap around from the end to the beginning of the buffer are handled automatically. So all reads are contiguous. However, I'm a bit unsure about using it straight away as I don't really have much experience with memory mapping or virtual memory and I'm not sure that I fully understand what it's doing. What I think I understand is that it's mapping a shared memory file the size of the buffer into memory twice. Then, whenever data is written into the buffer it appears in memory in 2 places at once. This allows all reads to be contiguous. What would be really great is if someone with more experience of POSIX memory mapping could have a quick look at the code and tell me if the underlying mechanism used is really that efficient. Am I right in thinking for example that the file in /dev/shm used for the shared memory always stays in RAM or could it get written to the hard drive (performance hit) at some point? Are there any gotchas I should be aware of? As it stands, I'm probably going to use a simpler method for my current project, but it'd be good to understand this to have it in my toolbox for the future. Thanks in advance for your time.

  • File streaming in PHP - How to replicate this C#.net code in PHP?

    - by openid_kenja
    I'm writing an interface to a web service where we need to upload configuration files. The documentation only provides a sample in C#.net which I am not familiar with. I'm trying to implement this in PHP. Can someone familiar with both languages point me in the right direction? I can figure out all the basics, but I'm trying to figure out suitable PHP replacements for the FileStream, ReadBytes, and UploadDataFile functions. I believe that the RecService object contains the URL for the web service. Thanks for your help! private void UploadFiles() { clientAlias = “<yourClientAlias>”; string filePath = “<pathToYourDataFiles>”; string[] fileList = {"Config.txt", "ProductDetails.txt", "BrandNames.txt", "CategoryNames.txt", "ProductsSoldOut.txt", "Sales.txt"}; RecommendClient RecService = new RecommendClient(); for (int i = 0; i < fileList.Length; i++) { bool lastFile = (i == fileList.Length - 1); //start generator after last file try { string fileName = filePath + fileList[i]; if (!File.Exists(fileName)) continue; // file not found } // set up a file stream and binary reader for the selected file and convert to byte array FileStream fStream = new FileStream(fileName, FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read); BinaryReader br = new BinaryReader(fStream); byte[] data = br.ReadBytes((int)numBytes); br.Close(); // pass byte array to the web service string result = RecService.UploadDataFile(clientAlias, fileList[i], data, lastFile); fStream.Close(); fStream.Dispose(); } catch (Exception ex) { // log an error message } } }
