• Have you considered doing revenue sharing to fund development of a mobile app? How would you do it?

  I am looking to build multiple mobile apps which leverage existing content and resources by enabling these mobile apps with web services. I will duplication much of the same features which are also in place and add more features that are possible on a mobile device like address book, maps and calendar integration to make the service much more useful. To fund these projects I see that I have 2 options. First I could simply quote them for the project based on my hourly rate and the estimate in hours that I will take the to complete the job. That may be a high number. The second option would be to do shared revenue with ads placed in the app. I could then take a percentage of any revenue that is generated from the app. There is also a hybrid where I might charge for a percentage of the estimated quote and then take a percentage of the revenue sharing. So my question is how much should I propose for the revenue sharing? Should it be 30%? Or maybe I should make it 70% up to a point that a certain dollar amount is reached? And should the revenue sharing agreement be for 12 months, 24 months or more? Should I include in the proposal an agreement that they will help promote this app with their content and resources? Ultimately this system will benefit both sides because it extends their reach into the mobile space instead of where they are currently with just print and web. I have tried to find some examples with a few Google searches but I keep hitting content about the Google and Apple revenue sharing models. I would like to get some solid examples that are working to compare against so that my proposal do build these apps is not completely off base.

• iPhone: App crashes when I click on a cell in table view.

  Hi there, Compiling my application works—everything is fine. The only errors I get are by deprecated functions (setText). The only problem is now, is that when I tap on a cell in my table, the app crashes, even though it's meant to push to the next view in the stack. Any solutions are appreciated, if you need any code, just ask. Also, how can I only make sure that one cell goes to only one view? For example: When I tap on CSS, it takes me to a new table with different levels of CSS. WHen I tap on an item in that new view, it comes up with an article on what I just selected. Regards, Jack

  I have created a view in Drupal. I"m using javascript to modify css in each row. The script runs on the first row, but does not make the changes on the rest of rows from the view. • Using jQuery with Windows 8 Metro JavaScript App causes security error

  Since it sounded like jQuery was an option for Metro JavaScript apps, I was starting to look forward to Windows 8 dev. I installed Visual Studio 2012 Express RC and started a new project (both empty and grid templates have the same problem). For example, using the innerHTML property to add script or malformed HTML will generate this exception. Use the toStaticHTML method to filter dynamic content, or explicitly create elements and attributes with a method such as createElement. This error doesn't cause any immediate issues for the user, but given its location, I am worried it will cause capability-discovery tests in jQuery to fail that shouldn't. I would prefer to be able to use the selector engine and event handling systems, but I would live without them if I had to. How does one get the latest jQuery to play nicely with Metro development?

• How to implement a download for dynamic files in asp.net with masterpages

  Hello, the title says it all. I have seen some similar questions on SO like this or this, but either i have overlooked something or my requirement is different, neither works. My situation is following: i have a Masterpage one of its contentpage is called MasterData.aspx MasterData has an asp.net ajax tabcontainer control with one usercontrol in every tabpanel these usercontrols(f.e. MD_Customer.ascx)hold the main content(like a normal page) they all have GridViews in it and i want to provide an Excel-Export-Button What i've tried is is to use an iframe like here. But the function that adds the iframe to the document gets never called and therefore i never see the save-as-dialog. Maybe this is caused by using a MasterPage. Does somebody has an idea on how to provide a button in an UpdatePanel that causes an async postback, so that i can generate a CSV dynamically in codebehind and write it to the response? • Server returns 500 error only when called by Java client using urlConnection/httpUrlConnection

  Hi - I'm having a very strange problem. I'm trying to call a servlet (JSP) with an HTTP GET and a few parameters (http://mydomain.com/method?param1=test&param2=123). If I call it from the browser or via WGET in a bash session, it works fine. However, when I make the exact same call in a Java client using urlConnection or httpURLConnection, the server returns a 500 error. I've tried everything I have found online including: urlConn.setRequestProperty("Accept-Language", "en-us,en;q=0.5"); Nothing I've tried, however, has worked. Unfortunately, I don't have access to the server I'm calling so I can't see the logs. • HTTP Handler error when downloading files - SSL

  Ok big problem as this is affecting two projects on our new server. We have a file that is downloaded by users, the files are downloaded using a HTTPHandler. Since moving the site to the server and setting SSL the downloads have stopped working and we get an error message "Unable to download DownloadDocument.ashx" from site". DownloadDocument.ashx is the handler page that is set in the web.config and the button that goes there is a hyperlink with the id of the document as a querystring. Ive read the article on http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316431 and read a few other requests on this site but nothing seems to be working. • Suggestion on UPnP presentation

  Hi all, I am working on an embedded device (bit higher end in terms of system resources but still an embedded one) which has lot of media content in it. I am trying to make it UPnP complaint and want to be able to control this device using a UPnP complaint control point/companion device like ipad. The step towards this is to be able to present the playlist content to the user. We thought of using HTML5 as a format to use. But as I am a noob in web technologies, I am not sure whats the best way to produce and present rich dynamic web pages. The content thats presented are video/audio listing that device can play and want this listing to be generated using the user's input criteria. So, what would be the best way to generate these dynamic pages which are rich and rendered as HTML5 pages. (looked at XML & XSLT, but there seems to be some limitations in how well one can use XSLT from some rewviews I saw). • Using Pastebin API in Node.js

  I've been trying to post a paste to Pastebin in Node.js, but it appears that I'm doing it wrong. Now, I've been searching forever on possible causes. I also tried setting the encoding on the write req.write(query, 'utf8') because the Pastebin API mentions that the POST must be UTF-8 encoded. I rewrote the thing over and over and re-consulted the Node HTTP documentation many times. I'm pretty sure I completely missed something here, because I don't see how this could fail. Does anyone have an idea of what I have done wrong?

• JQuery - is at least one checkbox checked

  I am in the process of learning JQuery thanks mostly to the positive reference here on Stack Overflow. I need a function that checks all the checkboxes in an element which have the same CSS class. It should returns true if at least one of them is checked. There are also other boxes in the element that are irrelevant to the check. The CSS class is unnecessary and only in place to create a way to identify the checkboxes in the group. It feels like bad practice, so any recommendations about other ways to identify them are welcome.

• Shadowbox not working in IE

  Hi guys, I have a bit of a problem with my shadowbox, it works fine in FF, but it refuses to work in IE 7 or 8. I would prefer that the tooltip track along with the mouse's movement over the link and that the tooltip's appearace (background color, opacity, border color, etc.) be configurable. The two most popular tooltips that I have found, "clueTip" and Jörn Zaefferer's "Tooltip" do not seem to fit the bill, unless I am missing something. Ultimately, the links and images will be dynamically generated.

• Grep expression with special file names

  i am a real beginner in csh/tcsh scripting and that's why i need your help. The problem is I have to go through some regular files in directories and find those files, that have their own name in its content. In the following piece of script is cycle in which I am going through paths and using grep to find the file's name in its content. What is surely correct is $something:q - is array of paths where i have to find files. The next variable is name in which is only name of current file. for example: /home/computer/text.txt (paths) and: text.txt (name) And my biggest problem is to find names of files in their content. It's quite difficult for me to write correct grep for this, cause the names of files and directories that i am passing through are mad. As of now, I've started learning XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, PHP, and mySQL, but with so many combinations, I want to plan ahead to have a marketable combination of skills as early on as possible. • Scroll event of jquery is not working in IE 7 with IE 7 standard but works in IE8,9

  I have an example below which has a terms div which has some terms and conditions as content. When the user scroll the div to bottom, then the checkbox is enabled. This is only not working only in IE 7 with IE 7/8/9 standards (I am changing the standard options from Developer window).   i have this code running to load my images all asynch and show a ajax loading image until the real image is downloaded. $('img.loadable-image').css('background', 'transparent url(/images/ajax-loader1.gif) no-repeat center center') $('img.loadable-image').load(function() { $(this).css('background', ''); }); this works in that it shows my ajax loading icon until the images is downloaded but it also shows the background as well here is a screenshot of what i get: as you can see on the left, you see the little ajax loader but also see the missing image square around it. any suggestions?

• NSPopupButton Bindings with Value Transformer

  I don't know if what I see with a popup button populated by bindings with a value transformer is the way it's supposed to be or not -- the unusual thing I'm seeing (at least with respect to what I've seen with value transformers and table views) is that the "value" parameter in the transformedValue: method is the whole array bound to the array controller, not the individual strings in the array. When I've done this with table views, the transformer is called once for each displayed row in the table, and the "value" parameter is whatever object is bound to that row and column, not the whole array that serves as the content array for the array controller. I have a very simple app to test this. When I run the program, the log from the transformedValue: method is this: 2012-09-19 20:31:39.975 PopupBindingWithTransformer[793:303] ( ) 2012-09-19 20:31:40.019 PopupBindingWithTransformer[793:303] ( William, Thomas, Alexander, James ) This doesn't seem to be other people's experience from what I can see on SO. Is there something I'm doing wrong with either the bindings or the value transformer?

• PHP - Concatenating objects and casting to string - bad idea?

  Is it bad practice to concatenate objects when used in this context: $this->template->head .= new View('custom_javascript') This is the way i normally add extra css/js stuff to specific pages. I use an MVC structure where my basic html template has a $head variable which I set in my main Website_controller. I have used this approach for a while as it means I can just add bits and pieces of css/js stuff from whichever page/controller needs it. But having come across a problem in PHP 5.1.6 where the above code results in "Object ID #24", the result of toString() not being called i think, I am rethinking whether i should just fix this to work in PHP 5.1.6 or if i should rethink this approach in general. Any pointers appreciated!

• XHTML editor wanted!

  I need an editor that outputs clean HTML, and preferably strict XHTML with CSS, as I am going to display the resulting pages as help pages in a java application using xhmtlrenderer ("Flying Saucer") which apparently very much prefers XHTML with CSS 2.1. Having searched stackoverflow for HTML editor and XHTML editor, I've found several mentioned. Aptana is one, Eclipse's Web Tools is another, and KompoZer is a third. I am going to try these out. With this question, I ask whether there are other good options that would satisfy my requirements, and if there are any one of these mentioned or new ones that you'd recommend in particular, that I should focus a bit extra on?
