Why does my Perl CGI script cause a 500 internal server error?

Mobile Specific Site Development. Where to start?

I'm beginning the process of learning the ins and outs of developing sites for mobile web browsers. Are there any good resources/communities online that discuss mobile specific site development issues? My initial understanding is that to cover different phones you need to build one site that is enabled for browsers with the webkit engine (iphone, android, etc.) and another more basic site for other older browsers, is this assumption correct? Also what does developing for webkit mean exactly? How is it different than just using javascript/css/html? Is it the same except that you limit yourself to webkit specific functions and css? I looked on the webkit site, but it didn't explain it in those terms. Are there any other snafus I need to watch out for when developing for mobile browsers?

JQuery UI Tabs - replace tab and contents

What is the best way to replace the currently selected tab and its contents? The content is dynamically generated with jquery, not loaded via a URL. I need to do this from outside of any tab code or tab event handler (show, add, etc.). There is a link elsewhere on the page that should do the following when clicked: Change the tab's title Change the tab's className Clear out all elements of the tabcontent div Change the tabcontent div's className Generate new content inside the tabcontent div Note that the only reference this link's click() handler has is to the JQuery tabs object ($Tabs). I can get the selected tab with $Tabs.tabs('option','selected'). But how can I get a reference to the selected tab's tab and panel? Inside of a jquery tab handler (show, add, etc.), I have access to ui.tab and ui.panel, but is there a way to get them from a tabs option? Would it be better to simply remove the currently selected tab and then add a new tab in the same index location? I'd have to put the code to generate the tab content into the add() handler then I suppose.

Why doesn't this code work correctly?

I'm working on a website that displays galleries, using jCarousel. But no matter what I try, I can't get it to work, and I need to finish this by today. I have a very urgent schedule. My code basically takes image URLs from a database and sends them to AJAX, which passes it to jCarousel which makes the gallery. But there are a few problems: It doesn't display correctly! I can only get the last item pulled from the database, and it displays on the bottom-most row. After the item pulled from the database is displayed, the first time I click on "prev" there's no scroll effect, and the item just disappears! Only if I click on "next" 2-3 times there's a scroll effect and the item remains visible. My items are always displayed at the end of the carousel! This is urgent.. How can I reorder an mbox file chronologically?

Hello, I have a single spool mbox file that was created with evolution, containing a selection of emails that I wish to print. My problem is that the emails are not placed into the mbox file chronologically. I would like to know the best way to place order the files from first to last using bash, perl or python. I would like to oder by received for files addressed to me, and sent for files sent by me. Would it perhaps be easier to use maildir files or such? Execute function without sending 'self' to it

Is that possible to define a function without referencing to self this way? def myfunc(var_a,var_b) But so that it could also get sender data, like if I defined it like this: def myfunc(self, var_a,var_b) That self is always the same so it looks a little redundant here always to run a function this way: myfunc(self,'data_a','data_b'). Then I would like to get its data in the function like this sender.fields. UPDATE: Here is some code to understand better what I mean. User control loosing its contents when loaded programatically

I have a usercontrol which contains 2 repeaters and the code to populate them with data. If i manually insert this into the page then it works correctly, the repeaters populate etc. If I load it programatically using this method; 1) add class name to user control ClassName="ContentModule" 2) reference this in the default.aspx <%@ Reference Control="~/modules/content.ascx" %> 3) Add the code to my codebehind page_load to do the loading; Private loadmodule As ASP.ContentModule Try If themodule = "content" Then loadmodule = CType(LoadControl("~\Modules\Content.ascx"), ASP.ContentModule) Modulecontainer.Controls.Add(loadmodule) End If Catch ex As Exception Response.Write(ex.ToString & "<br />") End Try Nothing from within the usercontrol is loaded to the page. Although if I add some static text i.e "TEST" to the top of the usercontrol this is displayed ok on the default.aspx page. This makes me think that the control is loaded ok, but there is something in the way I have loaded it that is causing the contents to not properly execute. Very frustrating this one! Any help greatly appreciated!

jQuery UI split button toggle - toggle both parts of the button

I would like to implement a toggle splitbutton with jQuery UI that would on toggle action change the style of the "dropdown" part as well (as seen in http://jsfiddle.net/8khz2/3/ - I'd like to appear it on 1st click as white, same as "Toggle" button does). Does anyone see a way to achieve that out of the box or only with CSS, without additional javascript code? Somehow I don't see an option doing it only with CSS, since I can not nest the "dropdown" button in "Toggle", since toggle part is checkbox: <input type="checkbox" id="toggle"/><label for="toggle">Toggle</label> <button id="select">Select an action</button> The jsfiddle example is based on: http://jqueryui.com/button/#splitbutton

hi, i am new to a php site, only familiar with .net web forms sites. i can't figure out how routing is working on this php site. www.oursite.com/suggestions.php is to suggestions.php www.oursite.com/suggestions also loads the php fine www.oursite.com/suggestions/ loads the php, but no css is applied www.oursite.com/suggestions/anything - anything that comes after the '/' is ignored and suggestions is loaded without css. so oursite.com/suggestions////// works, as does oursite.com/suggestions/2/2/2/2/whatever i have searched but not found any good explanation on how this is working. can someone explain or provide a good resource? thank you.

Building asynchronous cache pattern with JSP

I have a JSP that will take some 8 minutes to render. The code logic itself can not be made more efficient (it will update often and be updated by basically a pointy haired boss). I tried wrapping it with a caching layer like <%@ taglib uri="/WEB-INF/classes/oscache.tld" prefix="oscache" %> <oscache:cache time="60"> <div class="pagecontent"> ..... my logic </div> </oscache:cache> This is nice until the 60 seconds is over. The next query after that blocks until the 8 minutes of rendering is done with again. I would need a way to build a pattern something like: If there is no version of the dynamic content in the cache run the actual logic (and populate the cache for subsequent requests) If there is a non-expired version of the dynamic content in the cache serve the output of the JSP logic from the cache If there is an expired version of the dynamic content in the cache serve the output of the JSP logic still from the cache AND run the JSP logic in the background so that the cache gets updated transparently to the user - avoiding the user have to wait for 8 minutes I found out that at least EHCache might be able to do some asynchronous cache updating but it did not sadly seem to apply to the JSP tags... Also I have to take in 10-20 parameters for the actual logic of the JSP and some of them should be used as a key for caching. Code example and/or pointers would be greatly appreciated. I do not frankly care if the solution provided is extremely ugly. I just want a simple 5 minute caching with asynchronous cache update taking into account some parameters as a key.

Detect remote charset in php

Hello, I would like to determine a remote page's encoding through detection of the Content-Type header tag <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=XXXXX" /> if present. I retrieve the remote page and try to do a regex to find the required setting if present. I am still learning hence the problem below... Here is what I have: $EncStart = 'charset='; $EncEnd = '" \/\>'; preg_match( "/$EncStart(.*)$EncEnd/s", $RemoteContent, $RemoteEncoding ); echo = $RemoteEncoding[ 1 ]; The above does indeed echo the name of the encoding but it does not know where to stop so it prints out the rest of the line then most of the rest of the remote page in my test. Example: When testing a remote russian page it printed: windows-1251" / rest of page .... Which means that $EncStart was okay, but the $EncEnd part of the regex failed to stop the matching. This meta header usually ends in 3 different possibility after the name of the encoding. "> | "/> | " /> I do not know weather this is usable to satisfy the end of the maching and if yes how to escape it. I played with different ways of doing it but none worked. Thank you in advance for lending a hand.

SIP UAS asks for OPTIONS

Hey, I have UAC that registers to a UAS, after registration the UAS sends me an OPTIONS request, what should I answer it? only the audio media streams? Update I: Allow me to explain myself better... if I want to invite someone to a session I USE the INVITE method and negotiate the media then, for that specific session. But once I register to the server, and it asks me for OPTIONS, then what should I supply, everything my client supports? once I answer it would it deduce that every INVITE I would request from now on would use these medias? or would I need to supply new media with every request? Is it possible to nest folders in the Flash Builder bin-debug

I'm trying to setup my bin-debug folder so that the structure looks like this: bin-debug assets img swf main.swf css style.css js swfobject.js index.html I've tried setting the project's output folder to: bin-debug/assets/swf which does get my main.swf where I want it, but then my other source folders get dumped into that swf folder as well. What I would really like is to tell Flash Builder to put my swf into a nested folder and to be able to specify where my build folders' output goes as well. Is this at all possible without resorting to ANT scripts?

I'm trying to add style elements to all ALL the head elements in a document, including those in an iframe. if i use var heads = document.getElementsByTagName('head'); It just returns the first head element and not the ones in the iframe. this is the complete code : var heads = document.getElementsByTagName("head"); var style = document.createElement("style"); style.type = "text/css"; style.appendChild(document.createTextNode(css)); for(var i=0;i<heads.length;i++) heads[i].appendChild(style); but this doesn't seem to work! am i doing something wrong here...?

Cannot find code completion and suggestions in Aptana 2.0

Greetings, I recently started using Aptana 1.5 to work on a site via FTP, developing pages in .php format with a mixture of HTML, CSS, jQuery, and -- naturally -- PHP. I develop a page with all of these elements together to save time, then separate them. One thing that I really liked about Aptana 1.5 was that it completed code (brackets, parentheses, etc) and suggested things as I typed. I upgraded to 2.0 today and cannot figure out for the life of me how to bring back all of these capabilities -- or remember if I had to do anything in 1.5 to get them. Here is a picture of what I am looking for Notice the suggestion for margin: and the "HTML, Js, CSS" up top. Any help with getting this to work in 2.0 would be greatly appreciated. Ever since installing 2.0, 1.5 has been throwing error messages and I can't seem to get my FTP settings to stay locked in.

Can someone give me an overview of ASP.net and how it's different from technologies such as php?

I've been doing the html and css for a site, sending it off to a guy to implement in a web server. I get a call from the designer freaking out about the progress, saying the clients aren't happy. He wants me to personally integrate my css with what's on the site. The site is done in ASP.net, time is short, and I'm a little in over my head. I have an understanding of how php works, but have never worked extensively with it. Looking at the stuff on the ftp, I can't even find equivalent of the index.html file (I know that when I go to the site itself, there is nothing after the base url, i.e., www.site.com/ brings me to the homepage.) Can anyone give me a few tips or links as to what I am to do with this, or where to even being navigating this site?
