• MFC SDI Application without a default "New Document" on Startup

  My application is an SDI with multiple views. By default, it creates a new document when the application starts. I want to modify this behavior so that a new document is created only when user explicitly clicks on "New". Or at least mimic this behavior. Any ideas? I am using Visual Studio 2008 with MFC feature pack. I googled and found some solution to this problem in an old MS Journal article. But unfortunately it doesn't seem to work now. Any workarounds or solutions? In short, I need to differentiate between framework call to OnFileNew() and User Click on New.

• How to find the longest contiguous subsequence whose reverse is also a subsequence

  Suppose I have a sequence x1,x2,x3.....xn, and I want to find the longest contiguous subsequence xi,xi+1,xi+2......xi+k, whose reverse is also a subsequence of the given sequence. And if there are multiple such subsequences, then I also have to find the first. ex:- consider the sequences: abcdefgedcg here i=3 and k=2 aabcdddd here i=5, k=3 I tried looking at the original longest common subsequence problem, but that is used to compare the two sequences to find the longest common subsequence.... but here is only one sequence from which we have to find the subsequences. Please let me know what is the best way to approach this problem, to find the optimal solution.

  Hi guys, I am new to ninject, I am wondering how I can run custom initizlisation code when constructing the injected objects? ie. I have a Sword class which implements IWeapon, but I want to pass an hit point value to the Sword class constructor, how do I achieve that? Do I need to write my own provider? A minor question, IKernel kernel = new StandardKernel(new Module1(), new Module2(), ...); what is the actual use of having multiple modules in Kernel? I sorta understand it, but could someone give me a formal explaination and use case? Thanks a lot! James

• Installing Win32 shared SxS policy via WiX 3.0 MSM fails for 2nd app

  I am attempting to author a merge module for use by multiple application installers to install a Win32 Shared SxS Assembly and its associated Policy. I'm using WiX 3.0 to generate the MSM and test MSIs. So far it works fine for the first app installer that runs … but the second app installer fails because the Policy file already exists (HRESULT: 0x800700B7). What requirement(s) for correct Win32 Shared SxS Policy installation am I missing? I have submitted WiX bug 3005301 for this (https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=642714&aid=3005301&group_id=105970) and posted VS2008 projects that reproduce the problem. • what in/out bound mail system to use ? hosted or not ?

  hi all I have a ruby / rails application that integrates in and outgoing email directly into the app. The app is going to be running on multiple domains each with posible many users sending and recieving email. I have looked into sendgrid, mailchimp and mad mimi as hosted services and also looked to create my own email server. There are advantages and disadvantages of both solutions and i am not sure which one to go down and am hoping someone can give me advice ?? Any help will be great. I know email is a hassle to manage but once set up correctly cant be that bad ?? Thanks in advance Rick

• Creating a specialised view filtering form in Rails

  G'day guys, I have a current set of data, and I generate multiple analyses of this data (each analysis into its own active record item called a pricing_interval) using a helper function at the moment. Currently to analyse the set of data, you need a start time(using datetime_select) an integer (using text_field) and a name (using text_field) I would like on submission of the form to be redirected to the index page of my pricing_interval, as the values will be re-generated. Manually generating a range proves that my helper methods work. How would I build a form that on submit would send parameters to a function in the form of (date,integer,name) so that it could immediately begin work whilst redirecting the user to server/pricing_intervals Anything at all would help, I've spent hours over the past few days trying to get the rails form syntax working properly to no avail, a really straightforward guide to what I would implement to get this working would be amazingly appreciated. I've looked through the form guides, as I'm not creating an object, but merely parsing params, there's got to be an easy way to do this, right?

• Speed Difference between native OLE DB and ADO.NET

  I'm looking for suggestions as well as any benchmarks or observations people have. We are looking to rewrite our data access layer and are trying to decide between native C++ OLEDB or ADO.NET for connecting with databases. Currently we are specifically targeting Oracle which would mean we would use the Oracle OLE DB provider and the ODP.NET. Requirements: 1. All applications will be in managed code so using native C++ OLEDB would require C++/CLI to work (no PInvoke way to slow). 2. Application must work with multiple databases in the future, currently just targeting Oracle specifically. Question: 1. Would it be more performant to use ADO.NET to accomplish this or use native C++ OLE DB wrapped in a Managed C++ interface for managed code to access? Any ideas, or help or places to look on the web would be greatly appreciated.

  We're developing applications for AppExchange and are trying to figure out the best way to do development and release management. There are several issues around this: 1) Package Prefixes. We are developing code in unmanaged mode and releasing as managed, so we have to add all the package prefixes into the code. Is there a way to do this dynamically at runtime? Right now we're using an Ant script, which stops us benefitting from the force.com IDE plugin. 2) Resource files... We are doing some ajax-ey stuff and as a result have a few different resource files we upload, some of which are multiple file resources (zip files). Has anyone automated the building of these resources using ANT, and does that work well? Our environment seems very fragile and works for some developers and not others; have other people had this problem? How did you resolve it?

I am having a hard time to understand how I can save the authors in view function? I am thinking of using a hidden field to record all the author id's but I am having a hard time figuring out how to save it on the postback.

  I need to draw polygon using mouse and mark a particular area on google maps. The purpose is to mark an area on google maps and then showing hotels and attractions on that area. The user will mark the hotels on google map while creating them so the db will have their latitude and longitudes. How can I draw the polygon and fill it with a color as background to mark the area in Google Maps? I have read the API Manual “how to draw polygons?” basically you would need to mark multiple points and then combine them into a polygon. But I will need to do this using mouse drag, just like drawing a shape. Kindly help me out how to achieve this. Thanks in advance.

  Let's assume I have a main script, main.py, that imports another python file with 'import coolfunctions' and another: 'import chores' Now, suppose coolfunctions also uses stuff from chores, hence I declare 'import chores' inside coolfunctions. Since both main.py, and coolfunctions import chores ~ is this redundant? Is there any other way of doing this? Am I doing it correctly? I'm confused about how python projects should be structured in general. I have a "conf.py" file, that I import for a bunch of variables ~ is this a module or not? I load this conf file in multiple places as well.

• Undefined reference to cmph functions even after installing cpmh library

  I am using gcc 4.4.3 on ubuntu. I installed cmph library tools 0.9-1 using command sudo apt-get install libcmph-tools Now, when I tried to compile example program vector_adapter_ex1.c , gcc is able to detect cmph.h library in its include file but is showing multiple errors like vector_adapter_ex1.c:(.text+0x93): undefined reference to cmph_io_vector_adapter' vector_adapter_ex1.c:(.text+0xa3): undefined reference tocmph_config_new' vector_adapter_ex1.c:(.text+0xbb): undefined reference to cmph_config_set_algo' vector_adapter_ex1.c:(.text+0xcf): undefined reference tocmph_config_set_mphf_fd' even though, these are all defined in the source code of the cmph library. Could anyone tell the error that might have occurred or suggest an alternate method to go about building minimal perfect hash functions.

• How to use RadSpell within a Telerik MVC Grid editor popup?

  Is it possible to use RadSpell within a Telerik MVC Grid editor popup? I have followed some of the examples online to use RadSpell with ASP.NET MVC (http://www.telerik.com/help/aspnet-ajax/mvc-using-spellchecker.html and http://www.telerik.com/help/aspnet-ajax/spell-client-side-api.html) and I am able to attach multiple text controls to check but the display gets messed up when using Telerik MVC Grid editor popups since it's already in a modal. Sometimes it will randomly pick another div on the page and treats it like it's the main window (it will gray out just a portion of the page and I'll see the RadSpell popup peeking through but it's unusable). It seems like it chooses different places in the DOM to inject the iframe/radwindow for RadSpell as well. Any ideas? I didn't include any code because my implementation is a mess and I'd prefer to start with something simpler, from scratch.

• Composite events in locally scoped regions with Prism (CAL)

  I'm starting to train Prism (CAL) with a small application and faced some problems. I'm creating multiple instances of my MainView, which itself contains some regions, and display them in the Shell. I'm using locally scoped regions to easily handle view injections within my MainView. Currently I'm searching for a way of communication between the views (viewModels) inside the MainView. Composite events could do it, but when I publish those events, they are handled in all instances of my MainView, which I really don't want. Is there a way of raising "locally scoped" composite events like with locally scoped regions? Or may be there's a better way of communicating between views in my case?

• Best practice for submits redirecting to another page in MVC2?

  I have a situation with my MVC2 app where I have multiple pages that need to submit different information, but all need to end up at the same page. In my old Web Forms app, I'd have just accomplished this in my btnSave_Click delegate with a Redirect. There are three different types of products, each of which need to be saved to the cart in a completely different manner from their completely different product pages. I'm not going to get into why or how they're different, just suffice to say, they're totally different. After they're saved to the cart, I need to "redirect" to the Checkout view. But it should be noted, that you can also just browse straight to the Checkout view without having to submit any products to add to the cart. Here's a diagram of what I'm trying to accomplish, and how I think I need to handle it: Is this correct? It seems like a common scenario, but I haven't seen any examples of how I should handle this.   I have some address data which has been exported from a database. If the address had multiple lines, the exported data has joined all the lines into one string with the former lines being separated by dollars signs. Here's one of the addresses: INFORMATION DELIVERY DEPT$704 CHERRY ST$ATLANTA, GA 30332-0900 I'm splitting this into an array on the dollar sign and outputting the three array elements into separate tab-separated fields with printf. For some reason, it comes out like this: INFORMATION DELIVERY DEPT 704 CHERRY ST "ATLANTA, GA 30332-0900" I don't want the quotes around that final field. Can anyone explain why this is happening and how to suppress it? This is being done in Windows Vista with gawk3.1.6. Thanks! gary

• SubWebFolder and mutliple bin folders with Website model?

  Hi, I am looking for some advice on how what is the best approach to subweb folders and having mutliple bin folders in the WebSite Project model. For adding new pages at a later stage without recompiling the core files of a website and without building a full fledged Plug-in framework api. I am aware of being able to drop in the compiled dlls into the main bin folder and to just copy over the new page files to a sub folder but I am looking for a more organized file/folder approach. Here is the how it was done with WAP: Moving the Code-Behind Assemblies/DLLs to a different folder than /BIN with ASP.NET 1.1 Multiple /bin folders in ASP.NET I should also mention that I see that I can still do it the old way with the website project model by making the adjustment to the config section mentioned here but I was wondering if that has any side affects.   When working on code from multiple authors, I often encounter the issue of curly-brace preference (same line vs new line). Is it good/bad practice or even a non-issue when it comes to matching the existing style vs using your own preference? Does the situation change if you are adding new code to a Class vs modifying existing code? Finally, if style should be matched, how far should the match propagate? i.e. the file, the class, subclasses etc. Example: if(this) { doThat(); } Vs. if(this){ doThat(); }

• VS 2010 Test Runner error "The agent process was stopped while the test was running."

  In Visual Studio 2010, I have a number of unit tests. When I run multiple tests at one time using test lists, I sometimes reveive the following error for one or more of the tests: The agent process was stopped while the test was running. It is never the same test failing, and if I try to run the test again, it succeeds. I found this bug report on Connect, which seems to be the same problem, but it does not offer a solution. Has anyone else seen this behaviour ? How I can avoid it ?

• Why is the JVM stack-based and the DalvikVM register based?

  I'm curious, why did Sun decide to make the JVM stack-based and Google decide to make the DalvikVM register based? I suppose the JVM can't really assume that a certain number of registers are available on the target platform, since it is supposed to be platform independent. Therefor it just postpones the register-allocation etc, to the JIT compiler. (Correct me if I'm wrong.) So the Android guys thought, "hey, that's inefficient, let's go for a register based vm right away..."? But wait, there are multiple different android devices, what number of registers did the Dalvik target? Are the Dalvik opcodes hardcoded for a certain number of registers? Do all current Android devices on the market have about the same number of registers? Or, is there a register re-allocation performed during dex-loading? How does all this fit together?
