  • How to chroot Apache on CentOS?

    I have been advised by a sysadmin, to run Apache in a chroot jail, in order to prevent that an attacker could take control of server. So my question is: What is the best method to chroot Apache/2.2.3 in RHEL/CentOS 5?, i only use the default modules that comes with Apache like mod_php and also mod_security. I heard of mod_security SecChrootDir but i don't know if it would be suitable for my config, it says that it's recommended only for static file serving in the documentation. Thank you!

    I've never done any scripting on Windows but now I need to write a batch file that downloads a file off the internet (amongst other things). If it was linux I would use wget. Is there a builtin executable that will download a file to a given directory? This needs to run on XP.

  • Getting Rails Application Running Under IronRuby Rack

    Anyone else playing with ironruby? I have successfully got the IronRuby.Rails.Example project running on my local machine under IIS 5.1. I am now attempting to get my own demo rails site running in the same way. My web.config is slightly different from the example project. I am attempting to only use what was distributed with IronRuby 1.0 and what I have installed using gems. I am getting the following error which doesn't give me a lot to go on: D:/demo/config/boot.rb:66:in `exit': exit (SystemExit) After trying many different things, I think it is having a problem finding gems. I have attached my web config and ironrack.log. Does anyone have pointers on what I am doing wrong?   • Access denied when starting SQL Server Express from command line

    Windows 7 computer running SQL Server Express 2008 (sp1). When I try to run net start mssql$sqlexpress I receive an error: System error 5 has occurred. Access is denied The SQL service is running under "Network Service" account The service starts fine if I use the services window. Could somebody help me figure out why I am receiving this error?

    So I have several large text files I need to sort through, and remove all occurrences of lines which contain a given keyword. So basically, if I have these lines: This is not a test This is a test Maybe a test Definitely not a test And I run the script with 'not', I need to entirely delete lines 1 and 4. I've been trying with: PS C:\Users\Admin (Get-Content "D:\Logs\co2.txt") | Foreach-Object {$_ -replace "3*Program*", ""} | Set-Content "D:\Logs\co2.txt" but it only replaces the 'Program' and not the entire line.

  • "Zend Optimizer not installed" after I updated to Ubuntu 10.04

    Hi guys, I've just updated from 9.10 to 10.04. Everything seems to run fine except for zend optimizer which is throwing "Zend Optimizer not installed" error. I went to php.ini and the following line is still there Code: zend_extension=/etc/php5/ZendOptimizer.so Also I checked that the file does exist and that the php.ini I am looking at is in fact the php.ini file that is being used by the server.     I use jmeter to record requests and then perform a performance test after it records all the requests with proxy server. These requests contain a post form. After that I run the test cases, but I found the post form doesn't work -- it cannot create a record in the website's database automatically. But before that I used Webload and everything was OK.   • user crontabs don't work, only /etc/crontab

    Hi when I use the command crontab -e to set up cron, the commands get triggered (according to syslog) but nothing happens. Also if I run sudo crontab -e. The only way to actually get cron working is to manually etc /etc/crontab I'm confused, since syslog gives me the same output for both methods. Any ideas for tracing down this bug? Thanks alot!

  • Does switching Linux distributions trash your home directory?

    I have an Ubuntu installation on my netbook and after trying it out on a bootable USB I have decided to switch to Mint Linux. If I run the Mint installer from the USB will it totally trash my home directory? Or will it be equivalent to an upgrade where the systems files that need to be replaced will change leaving the users folders as is. (Yes, I plan to backup the important files in the /home folders before hand...)

  • Can't access server running CentOS 6.3 in vmware

    I just installed CentOS on a vmware machine that uses a bridged connection, installed apache, php and mysql, but when I run service httpd start I get a warning(?): Starting httpd: httpd: Could not reliably determine the server's fully qualified domain name, using localhost.localdomain for ServerName I can connect to the server using putty, so I really have no idea why it won't load in the browser. EDIT: Httpd starts successfully, return [ OK ]. Running netstat -tuplen | grep :80 yields: tcp 0 0 :::80 :::* LISTEN 0 40392 15894/httpd I am able to connect with putty to 192.168.0.113, but browser says can't connect to 192.168.0.113

  • MySQL and PostgreSQL on the same hardware

However now we have the requirement to also run MySQL as some software we want to use only supports that database. Since the storage on this machine is the most suitable for hosting a DB, and we don't currently have the budget for more hardware,we're thinking of running both of them on the same server.   • Internet Forwarding With Qemu?

I've been reading about all this bridging and stuff that is done to do that, but I was wondering if there was a simpler way, to just forward my internet connection (since I'm connected on the host machine) through qemu to the guest operating system.   • multiple webapps in tomcat -- what is the optimal architecture?

    I am maintaining a growing base of mainly Cocoon-2.1-based web applications [http://cocoon.apache.org/2.1/], deployed in a Tomcat servlet container [http://tomcat.apache.org/], and proxied with an Apache http server [http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/]. I am conceptually struggling with the best way to deploy multiple web applications in Tomcat. Since I'm not a Java programmer and we don't have any sysadmin staff I have to figure out myself what is the most sensible way to do this. My setup has evolved through 2 scenarios and I'm considering a third for maximal separation of the distinct webapps. [1] 1 Tomcat instance, 1 Cocoon instance, multiple webapps -tomcat |_ webapps |_ webapp1 |_ webapp2 |_ webapp[n] |_ WEB-INF (with Cocoon libs) This was my first approach: just drop all web applications inside a single Cocoon webapps folder inside a single Tomcat container. This seemed to run fine, I did not encounter any memory issues. However, this poses a maintainability drawback, as some Cocoon components are subject to updates, which often affect the webapp coding. Hence, updating Cocoon becomes unwieldy: since all webapps share the same pool of Cocoon components, updating one of them would require the code in all web applications to be updated simultaneously. In order to isolate the web applications, I moved to the second scenario. [2] 1 Tomcat instance, each webapp in its dedicated Cocoon environment -tomcat |_ webapps |_ webapp1 | |_ WEB-INF (with Cocoon libs) |_ webapp1 | |_ WEB-INF (with Cocoon libs) |_ webapp[n] |_ WEB-INF (with Cocoon libs) This approach separates all webapps into their own Cocoon environment, run inside a single Tomcat container. In theory, this works fine: all webapps can be updated independently. However, this soon results in PermGenSpace errors. It seemed that I could manage the problem by increasing memory allocation for Tomcat, but I realise this isn't a structural solution, and that overloading a single Tomcat in this way is prone to future memory errors. This set me thinking about the third scenario. [3] multiple Tomcat instances, each with a single webapp in its dedicated Cocoon environment -tomcat |_ webapps |_ webapp1 |_ WEB-INF (with Cocoon libs) -tomcat |_ webapps |_ webapp2 |_ WEB-INF (with Cocoon libs) -tomcat |_ webapps |_ webapp[n] |_ WEB-INF (with Cocoon libs) I haven't tried this approach, but am thinking of the $CATALINA_BASE variable. A single Tomcat distribution can be multiply instanciated with different $CATALINA_BASE environments, each pointing to a Cocoon instance with its own webapp. I wonder whether such an approach could avoid the structural memory-related problems of approach [2], or will the same issues apply? On the other hand, this approach would complicate management of the Apache http frontend, as it will require the AJP connectors of the different Tomcat instances to be listening at different ports. Hence, Apache's worker configuration has to be updated and reloaded whenever a new webapp (in its own Tomcat instance) is added. And there seems no way to reload worker.properties without restarting the entire Apache http server. Is there perhaps another / more dynamic way of 'modularizing' multiple Tomcat-served webapps, or can one of these scenarios be refined? Any thoughts, suggestions, advice much appreciated. Ron

  • Huawei E170 doesn't work with Windows 7

    I've got a "Huawei E170" (HSDPA broadband modem USB stick) with a driver CD for Windows XP & Vista, but now I got a netbook with Windows 7, and the driver installer won't run. I've called the telecom, but they just offered to sell me a new stick :-( Is there really no Win7 driver available for the E170 stick? Or can I trick it into installing anyway?

  • EXC_BAD_INSTRUCTION (SIGILL) at random during use of app. Bug in AppKit?

    I'm currently testing a new version of an app of mine on OSX 10.5 An user reported some weird crashes during use of the application, sadly not reproducible by me. At first sight it seems to happen randomly, once he had the crash while opening an NSOpenPanel and once during focusing an NSTextField and once during NSView switch in a parent view. If you have any idea which area I should look at it would be greatly appreciated! I'm completely lost here.   • ESXi 5.1 ghettoVCB stuck at Clone: 10% done

    Trying to run ghettoVCB for the first time here. I am using a NAS that is set up as a datastore on the host. I did a dry run and it completed without error. The VM is ~500GB and there is only one on the host that I'm trying to backup. Clone: 10% done. and it's been that way for over an hour now. Stuck at Clone: 10% done.. Thing is: I can see the vmdk on the NAS. And it looks like almost the whole thing is there. On the NAS it's showing ~430GB but on vSphere Client Summary is shows as 507GB. I don't see the vmdk on the NAS growing any more. The logfile mimics some of the above and is sitting at "Creating Snapshot..." and nothing else is coming in. Is the vmdk on the NAS showing all those GB because of the provisioning or something? i.e. is the size of the file not necessarily indicative of the amount of actual data that has been copied? Is there are reason it might be "Stuck" at 10%? i.e. could it really be taking this long? Any other tips? Thanks. Edit: as soon as I hit the Submit button, I glance over to see that it has incremented to 11% done. Good to know it'll be complete sometime around when the sun explodes.

  • Fedora 12 XFCE mount permissions

    I installed Fedora 12 with XFCE. When I run Gigolo to mount Windows partitions, I get an "Authentication is required" message. In Fedora 11 XFCE, there was a tool that changed the system permission to allow any user to mount any partition, but I can't find it in Fedora 12. How can I fix this problem and set all permissions needed?
