  • NSUserDefaults: detecting nil

    - by alJaree
    I have some code in my classes to read from NSUserDefaults NSUserDefaults *defs = [NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults]; score = [defs integerForKey:@"score"]; this causes a crash. Im guessing it is because the score value is nil or doesnt exist. How can I check if it is nil? EDIT. The following code causes a crash when storing to NSUserDefaults. NSUserDefaults *defs = [NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults]; [defs setInteger:0 forKey:@"score"]; [defs setInteger:3 forKey:@"lives"]; [defs release]; Im not sure what the issue is On some crashes there isnt even a crash report in the console. Thanks

  • Does it make a difference in performance if I use self.fooBar instead of fooBar?

    - by mystify
    Note: I know exactly what a property is. This question is about performance. Using self.fooBar for READ access seems a waste of time for me. Unnecessary Objective-C messaging is going on. The getters typically simply pass along the ivar, so as long as it's pretty sure there will be no reasonable getter method written, I think it's perfectly fine to bypass this heavy guy. Objective-C messaging is about 20 times slower than direct calls. So if there is some high-performance-high-frequency code with hundreds of properties in use, maybe it does help a lot to avoid unnessessary objective-c messaging? Or am I wasting my time thinking about this?

  • Why are all my masked views unmasked in my view snapshot?

    - by mystify
    I'm taking a snapshot of an view. This view has got some subviews which have layer masks applied to them. For some reason, those masks take no effect in the snapshot and the masked parts are completely visible. UIGraphicsBeginImageContext(theView.frame.size); [theView.layer renderInContext:UIGraphicsGetCurrentContext()]; UIImage *newImage = UIGraphicsGetImageFromCurrentImageContext(); UIGraphicsEndImageContext(); I assume this is a bug in the framework. But maybe it's not? Did I do anything wrong here?

    Could you please give some advises. I'am going to develop peer-to-peer VoIP iOS application. And want do it without any SIP proxy, SIP providers and other servers. Just VoIP calls frpm iOSdevice-to-iOSdevice. Both iOSdevice could be somewhere in Internet. Is it real in VoIP (with PJSIP for example and general with SIP)? Could you please point me to main keys that I need for development. I'am already read these topics. Is it real solve problems with addressing in my configuration. • What should be proper location for sqlit3 database file?

    - by Elliot Chen
    Hi, Everyone: I'm using a sqlite3 database to store app's data. Instead of building a database within program, I introduced an existing db file: 'abc.sqlite' into my project and put it under my 'Resources' folder. So, I think this db file should be inside of 'bundle', so at my init function, I used following statement to read it out: NSString *path = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:@"abc" ofType:"sqlite"]; if(sqlite3_open([path UTF8String], &database) != SQLITE_OK) ... It's ok that this db can be opened and data can be retrieved from it. BUT, someone told me that it's better to copy this db file into user folder: such as 'Document'. So, my question is: is it ok to use this db from main bundle directly or copy it to user folder then use that copy. Which is better? Thank you very much!

  • Why does UITableViewCell have a contentView property?

    - by mystify
    What's the point of this contentView property? I mean: Why aren't all the subviews just added to self? Let me get that right: Every cell is a view (UITabvleViewCell is a UIView subclass). And this fat view has another fat view with same bounds sitting on top of it, called contentView. That contentView then carries all those other subviews. Now why didn't they save that extra chunk of memory? Is there any genius logic behind this decision? Would love to understand the reason for this.

  • Received memory warning on setimage

    - by Sam Budda
    This problem has completely stumped me. This is for iOS 5.0 with Xcode 4.2 What's going on is that in my app I let user select images from their photo album and I save those images to apps document directory. Pretty straight forward. What I do then is that in one of the viewController.m files I create multiple UIImageViews and I then set the image for the image view from one of the picture that user selected from apps dir. The problem is that after a certain number of UIImage sets I receive a "Received memory warning". It usually happens when there are 10 pictures. If lets say user selected 11 pictures then the app crashes with Error (GBC). NOTE: each of these images are at least 2.5 MB a piece. After hours of testing I finally narrowed down the problem to this line of code [button1AImgVw setImage:image]; If I comment out that code. All compiles fine and no memory errors happen. But if I don't comment out that code I receive memory errors and eventually a crash. Also note it does process the whole CreateViews IBAction but still crashes at the end. I cannot do release or dealloc since I am running this on iOS 5.0 with Xcode 4.2 Here is the code that I used. Can anyone tell me what did I do wrong? - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; // Do any additional setup after loading the view, typically from a nib. [self CreateViews]; } -(IBAction) CreateViews { paths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask ,YES); documentsPath = [paths objectAtIndex:0]; //here 15 is for testing purposes for (int i = 0; i < 15; i++) { //Lets not get bogged down here. The problem is not here UIImageView *button1AImgVw = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(10*i, 10, 10, 10)]; [self.view addSubview:button1AImgVw]; NSMutableString *picStr1a = [[NSMutableString alloc] init]; NSString *dataFile1a = [[NSString alloc] init]; picStr1a = [NSMutableString stringWithFormat:@"%d.jpg", i]; dataFile1a = [documentsPath stringByAppendingPathComponent:picStr1a]; NSData *potraitImgData1a =[[NSData alloc] initWithContentsOfFile:dataFile1a]; UIImage *image = [[UIImage alloc] initWithData:potraitImgData1a]; // This is causing my app to crash if I load more than 10 images! //[button1AImgVw setImage:image]; } NSLog(@"It went to END!"); } //Error I get when 10 images are selected. App does launch and work 2012-10-07 17:12:51.483 ABC-APP[7548:707] It went to END! 2012-10-07 17:12:51.483 ABC-APP [7531:707] Received memory warning. //App crashes with this error when there are 11 images 2012-10-07 17:30:26.339 ABC-APP[7548:707] It went to END! • Sorting Objects in NSArray

    - by Sam Budda
    I have an NSArray with 3 objects in it. Each object is made up of 5 values. How can I sort by Date with in the objects? result: ( gg, "2012-10-28 01:34:00 +0000", "Church Bells", "pin_red", 1 )( iu, "2008-09-22 17:32:00 +0000", "Birthday Song", "pin_red", 1 )( "my birthday woo hoo", "2012-09-04 19:27:00 +0000", "Birthday Song", "pin_blue", 1 ) The results I am looking for - Sorted Array should look like this. ( iu, "2008-09-22 17:32:00 +0000", "Birthday Song", "pin_red", 1 ) ( "my birthday woo hoo", "2012-09-04 19:27:00 +0000", "Birthday Song", "pin_blue", 1 ) ( gg, "2012-10-28 01:34:00 +0000", "Church Bells", "pin_red", 1 ) I am getting this array from my nsdictionary object. dictionary = [[NSMutableDictionary alloc] initWithContentsOfFile:stringsPlistPath]; stringsMutableArray = [[NSMutableArray alloc] initWithObjects:nil]; for (id key in dictionary) { [stringsMutableArray addObject:[dictionary objectForKey:key]]; }

  • How to get colliding effect or bouncy when ball hits the track.

    - by Chandan Shetty SP
    I am using below formula to move the ball circular, where accelX and accelY are the values from accelerometer, it is working fine. But the problem in this code is mRadius (I fixed its value to 50), i need to change mRadius according to accelerometer values and also i need bouncing effect when it touches the track. Currently i am developing code by assuming only one ball is on the board. float degrees = -atan2(accelX, accelY) * 180 / 3.14159; int x = cCentrePoint.x + mRadius * cos(degreesToRadians(degrees)); int y = cCentrePoint.y + mRadius * sin(degreesToRadians(degrees)); Here is the snap of the game i want to develop: Updated: I am sending the updated code... mRadius = 5; mRange = NSMakeRange(0,60); -(void) updateBall: (UIAccelerationValue) accelX withY:(UIAccelerationValue)accelY { float degrees = -atan2(accelX, accelY) * 180 / 3.14159; int x = cCentrePoint.x + mRadius * cos(degreesToRadians(degrees)); int y = cCentrePoint.y + mRadius * sin(degreesToRadians(degrees)); //self.targetRect is rect of ball Object self.targetRect = CGRectMake(newX, newY, 8, 9); self.currentRect = self.targetRect; //http://books.google.co.in/books?id=WV9glgdrrrUC&pg=PA455#v=onepage&q=&f=false static NSDate *lastDrawTime; if(lastDrawTime!=nil) { NSTimeInterval secondsSinceLastDraw = -([lastDrawTime timeIntervalSinceNow]); ballXVelocity = ballXVelocity + (accelX * secondsSinceLastDraw) * [self isTouchedTrack:mRadius andRange:mRange]; ballYVelocity = ballYVelocity + -(accelY * secondsSinceLastDraw) * [self isTouchedTrack:mRadius andRange:mRange]; distXTravelled = distXTravelled + secondsSinceLastDraw * ballXVelocity * 50; distYTravelled = distYTravelled + secondsSinceLastDraw * ballYVelocity * 50; CGRect temp = self.targetRect; temp.origin.x += distXTravelled; temp.origin.y += distYTravelled; int radius = (temp.origin.x - cCentrePoint.x) / cos(degreesToRadians(degrees)); if( !NSLocationInRange(abs(radius),mRange)) { //Colided with the tracks...Need a better logic here ballXVelocity = -ballXVelocity; } else { // Need a better logic here self.targetRect = temp; } //NSLog(@"angle = %f",degrees); } [lastDrawTime release]; lastDrawTime = [ [NSDate alloc] init]; } In the above code i have initialized mRadius and mRange(indicate track) to some constant for testing, i am not getting the moving of the ball as i expected( bouncing effect when Collided with track ) with respect to accelerometer. Help me to recognize where i went wrong or send some code snippets or links which does the similar job. I am searching for better logic than my code, if you found share with me.

  • http authenitcation in xcode

    - by user313100
    I am trying to make twitter work in my app and everything works fine except the code does not seem to recognize an error from twitter. If the username/password are not valid, I get an error message through this function: - (void)connection:(NSURLConnection *)connection didReceiveData:(NSData *)data { NSString* strData = [[[NSString alloc] initWithBytes:[data bytes] length:[data length] encoding:NSASCIIStringEncoding] autorelease]; NSLog(@"Received data: %@", strData ) ; return ; } It prints: Received data: Could not authenticate you. . However, the app continues to the post a tweet view I have and ignores the error. Obviously, I do not have something setup right to detect such an error from twitter so my question is how do I get xcode to recognize an error like this? This uses basic http auth btw and don't mention anything about OAuth...just trying to get this to work for now.

  • Customizing File Linkage for a Build Configuration (Not Buil Target)

    - by ZaBlanc
    I have a project that has several build configurations (FREE version, male-only, female-only, etc.). I am avoiding using multiple build targets because (A) the products are mostly all the same and (B) I don't want to have to do checkbox-management to keep every file I have included with all the targets. However, I have just a few files it would be nice NOT to include in certain builds. For example, I have male and female voice files, but I only want the male files in the male build and female voices in the female build. Question...is there a way to manage the build configuration to prevent these files from being included/linked in? What are my options?

  • Push notification not received in ios5 device

    - by Surender Rathore
    I am sending push notification on device which has iOS 5.0.1, but notification is not received on iOS5 device. If i try to send notification on iOS4.3.3 device, it received on this device. My server is developed in c# and apple push notification certificate is used in .p12 format. My code to register the notification is - (BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary *)launchOptions { // Override point for customization after application launch. // Set the navigation controller as the window's root view controller and display. deviceToken = nil; self.window.rootViewController = self.navigationController; [self.window makeKeyAndVisible]; [[UIApplication sharedApplication] enabledRemoteNotificationTypes]; [[UIApplication sharedApplication] registerForRemoteNotificationTypes: UIRemoteNotificationTypeBadge | UIRemoteNotificationTypeSound | UIRemoteNotificationTypeAlert]; return YES; } - (void)application:(UIApplication *)application didRegisterForRemoteNotificationsWithDeviceToken:(NSData *)devToken { UIAlertView *alertView=[[UIAlertView alloc]initWithTitle:@"Succeeded in registering for APNS" message:@"Sucess" delegate:self cancelButtonTitle:@"Ok" otherButtonTitles:nil]; [alertView show]; [alertView release]; deviceToken = [devToken retain]; NSMutableString *dev = [[NSMutableString alloc] init]; NSRange r; r.length = 1; unsigned char c; for (int i = 0; i < [deviceToken length]; i++) { r.location = i; [deviceToken getBytes:&c range:r]; if (c < 10) { [dev appendFormat:@"0%x", c]; } else { [dev appendFormat:@"%x", c]; } } NSUserDefaults *def = [NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults]; [def setObject:dev forKey:@"DeviceToken"]; [def synchronize]; NSLog(@"Registered for APNS %@\n%@", deviceToken, dev); [dev release]; } - (void)application:(UIApplication *)application didFailToRegisterForRemoteNotificationsWithError:(NSError *)error { NSLog(@"Failed to register %@", [error localizedDescription]); UIAlertView *alertView=[[UIAlertView alloc]initWithTitle:@"FAILED" message:@"Fail" delegate:self cancelButtonTitle:@"Ok" otherButtonTitles:nil]; [alertView show]; [alertView release]; deviceToken = nil; } - (void)application:(UIApplication *)application didReceiveRemoteNotification:(NSDictionary *)userInfo { NSLog(@"Recieved Remote Notification %@", userInfo); NSDictionary *aps = [userInfo objectForKey:@"aps"]; NSDictionary *alert = [aps objectForKey:@"alert"]; //NSString *actionLocKey = [alert objectForKey:@"action-loc-key"]; NSString *body = [alert objectForKey:@"body"]; // NSMutableArray *viewControllers = [NSMutableArray arrayWithArray:[self.navigationController viewControllers]]; // // if ([viewControllers count] > 2) { // NSRange r; // r.length = [viewControllers count] - 2; // r.location = 2; // [viewControllers removeObjectsInRange:r]; // // MapViewController *map = (MapViewController*)[viewControllers objectAtIndex:1]; // [map askDriver]; // } // // [self.navigationController setViewControllers:viewControllers]; // [viewControllers release]; //NewBooking,"BookingId",Passenger_latitude,Passenger_longitude,Destination_latitude,Destination_longitude,Distance,Time,comments NSArray *arr = [body componentsSeparatedByString:@","]; if ([arr count]>0) { MapViewController *map = (MapViewController*)[[self.navigationController viewControllers] objectAtIndex:1]; [map askDriver:arr]; [self.navigationController popToViewController:[[self.navigationController viewControllers] objectAtIndex:1] animated:YES]; } //NSString *sound = [userInfo objectForKey:@"sound"]; //UIAlertView *alertV = [[UIAlertView alloc] initWithTitle:actionLocKey // message:body delegate:nil // cancelButtonTitle:@"Reject" // otherButtonTitles:@"Accept", nil]; // // [alertV show]; // [alertV release]; } Can anyone help me out with this issue.   • Getting invalid context errors

    - by Andrew
    I don't have much code thus far, only this to start: UIGraphicsBeginImageContextWithOptions(bounds.size, NO, 0); CGContextRef context = UIGraphicsGetCurrentContext(); CGMutablePathRef outerPath; CGMutablePathRef highlightPath; CGRect outerRect = rectForRectWithInset(bounds, 1); CGRect highlightRect = CGRectMake(outerRect.origin.x, outerRect.origin.y + 1, outerRect.size.width, outerRect.size.height); And then the problematic bit, which when commented out, the error goes away: CGContextSaveGState(context); CGContextAddPath(context, highlightPath); CGContextSetFillColorWithColor(context, [[UIColor colorWithWhite:1.0 alpha:0.05]CGColor]); CGContextFillPath(context); CGContextRestoreGState(context); Below that is simply: UIImage *image = UIGraphicsGetImageFromCurrentImageContext(); UIGraphicsEndImageContext();

  • Object leak using "retain"

    - by Abhinav
    I have a property defined with retain attribute which I am synthesizing: @property (nonatomic, retain) UISwitch *mySwitch; And inside my loadView I am doing this: self.mySwitch = [[UISwitch alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, 40, 20)]; And finally inside my dealloc I am doing this: self.mySwitch = nil; Am I leaking this object (mySwitch) as I have used one alloc? Should I autorelease it while assigning it frame? Please suggest.

  • How to add an extra plist property using CMake?

    - by Jesse Beder
    I'm trying to add the item <key>UIStatusBarHidden</key><true/> to my plist that's auto-generated by CMake. For certain keys, it appears there are pre-defined ways to add an item; for example: set(MACOSX_BUNDLE_ICON_FILE ${ICON}) But I can't find a way to add an arbitrary property. I tried using the MACOSX_BUNDLE_INFO_PLIST target property as follows: I'd like the resulting plist to be identical to the old one, except with the new property I want, so I just copied the auto-generated plist and set that as my template. But the plist uses some Xcode variables, which also look like ${foo}, and CMake grumbles about this: Syntax error in cmake code when parsing string <string>com.bedaire.${PRODUCT_NAME:identifier}</string> syntax error, unexpected cal_SYMBOL, expecting } (47) Policy CMP0010 is not set: Bad variable reference syntax is an error. Run "cmake --help-policy CMP0010" for policy details. Use the cmake_policy command to set the policy and suppress this warning. This warning is for project developers. Use -Wno-dev to suppress it. In any case, I'm not even sure that this is the right thing to do. I can't find a good example or any good documentation about this. Ideally, I'd just let CMake generate everything as before, and just add a single extra line. What can I do?
