  • Problem with superfish submenu being trimmed by content in Firefox

    Greetings, I have a problem which would seem to involve some kind of z-index issue, but for a change it's in everything except IE. If you take a look at http://cougar.motivo.com.au/ in anything except Internet Explorer and hover over the last menu item "Contact Us" you can se what I'm referring to. Basically the supersub menu appears to be being trimmed by the width of the element below it. You can see via the source that I've tried setting z-indexes & position:relative, but at this point I'm stumped. Any and all input would be gratefully received :) P.S. I am aware that there are still a couple of issues in IE6. I am yet to have the pleasure of addressing those (groans).

  • Fading out everything but (this) - while honoring a click()

    I'm trying to achieve a fading navigation system, where everything in the nav but the element being hovered will fade out to say, 0.3 opacity. At the same time, I want clicks to have a greater "value", so as to not fade out a clicked element (or in this case, the active subpage).. That didn't make much sense to me either, I'll just post the code I have. <nav id="main"> <ul> <li> <a>work</a> </li> <li> <a>about me</a> </li> <li> <a>contact</a> </li> </ul> </nav> And the script that makes it sparkle: var nava = "nav#main ul li a"; $(nava).hover(function(){ $(nava).not(this).removeClass().addClass("inactive"); $(this).addClass("active"); }); $(nava).click(function(){ $(this).removeClass().addClass("active"); }); }); And the classes / css(less): .inactive{color:@color2; border-bottom:0 solid #000;} .active{color:@color1; border-bottom:1px solid #000;} nav#main ul li a{color:@color1;} Basically the hover states take priority over the click, which I do not want to happen. Ideally I'd like for all of the anchor elements to revert to its original state whenever you hover out from the unordered list holding it all.   • How to keep current selection for jqGrid pulldown edit

    When editing cells in jqGrid, specifically using a select pull-down to edit a cell, how does one make the current selection the current choice for that cell? In my page I have a cell where edittype:'select' is set but when one clicks on that row the value for that cells automatically changes to the first entry that my AJAX call returns. Is there something within JQGrid that needs to be set or does the object I send to jqGrid have to be of a certain format to do so?

  • How to prevent the copying of text from a textarea?

    I have an online typing software, which I'm currently working on. In the typing software, all is running good but I have come across the problem of dishonest users who might possibly type the text into the textarea, copy it, then reload the page (therefore resetting the timer) and pasting it in straightaway. So I was thinking along the lines of using something like evt.preventDefault(); when javascript detects the pressing of the ctrl / cmd button. But then again I realized that the user could go to the menu bar to press copy. So is there a cross-browser method to do both methods of disabling?   • Wait until image loads before performing function

    I'm trying to create a simple portfolio page. I have a list of thumbs and an image. When you click on a thumb, the image will change. When a thumbnail is clicked, I'd like to have the image fade out, wait until the image is loaded, then fade back in. The problem I have right now is that some of the images are pretty big, so it fades out, then fades back in immediately, sometimes while the image is still loading. I'd like to avoid using setTimeout, since sometimes an image will load faster or slower than the time I set.   • Javascript in chrome plugin has syntax error

  • Why am I losing my characters from my html string when trying to add html dynamically using javascri

    I have a page that I am trying to dynamically add some links to. The links are getting added to the page fine, but the '[' and ']' at either end of the line are getting dropped. The code from my .js file is: var html = "[ <a href='#'>Change</a>&nbsp;|&nbsp;<a href='#'>Remove </a> ]"; $(html).appendTo("#id123"); The result I want is: [ <a href='#'>Change</a>&nbsp;|&nbsp;<a href='#'>Remove</a> ] The result I'm getting is: <a href='#'>Change</a>&nbsp;|&nbsp;<a href='#'>Remove</a> If I wrap the line in a <span> tag like so: var html = "<span>[ <a href='#'>Change</a>&nbsp;|&nbsp;<a href='#'>Remove </a> ]</span>"; $(html).appendTo("#id123"); it renders as expected. I set a breakpoint on the code and checked the html var right before the .appendTo and it contains the '[' and ']'. Anyone know why this is happening? Are '[' and ']' special character that need escaped and I'm just forgetting that fact?

  • Remove innerHTML from div

    I'm trying to clear the div's innerHTML before repopulating it. I tried removeData() but once that's called, when I try to add the data, I get nothing from the next line after remove whereas if I remove the removeData() it's fine again. I just want to clear out any previous content in that div before I re-populate it. divToUpdate.removeData(); //clean out any existing innerHTML div content first divToUpdate.html(data); It looks like it never gets to my divToUpdate.html(data) for some reason after it calls that removeData();

  • PHP, Ajax, and the lifespan of the request

    I was wondering about the lifespan of a PHP script when called via Ajax. Assume that there is a long-running (i.e. 30 seconds) PHP script on a server and that page is loaded via Ajax. Before the script completes, the user closes the browser. Does the script continue running to completion, is it terminated, or is this a function of the server itself (I'm running Apache fwiw).   • whats faster, more efficient, loading a js file with arrays or populating arrays from tables

    I am rebuilding an ecom site where the product data is stored in a multidimensional JS array that gets loaded on page load. This data is constantly being accessed with JS due to the nature of the site, to update prices based on user selections. There are many options that affect final price. From a programming standpoint, a DB table is much easier to maintain and update than are JS arrays, and since I am porting the site over to PHP and MYSQL, I have been considering moving these arrays into tables. So, would it be better to populate an array from the DB on load so that the pricing data is always available to the JS, or stay with hard coded JS files? I considered getting data via ajax as needed, but since this site has to constantly update pricing with user interaction, I have pretty much ruled that out. How would you handle it?

  • Checking if radio buttons are checked in Firefox

    On my site, I have two checkboxes created in my ASP.NET MVC view like so: Html.RadioButton("check", "true", "true" == (string) ViewData["someKey"], new { id = "check1"}); Html.RadioButton("check", "false", "false" == (string) ViewData["someKey"], new { id = "check2"}); I am positive that ViewData["someKey"] has the value "true" in it. In my JS init function, I perform the following check: alert($('#check1').is(':checked') + " " + $('#check2').is(':checked')); In Firefox (and only Firefox), my alert dialog will show the following (it works as expected in every other browser): Initial page load: true false Normal refresh via Ctrl + R: false false Refresh skipping cache via Ctrl + Shift + R: true false I have tried many different methods of looking at the checkbox value, including $('#check1').attr('checked') without success. If I examine the HTML in Firebug, I can see that the first radio button has the property checked="checked" in it. Why is the checkbox value changing in FF when I refresh, and how can I mitigate this? Since this seems to be a FF-only bug, how can I change my code to make it work? This SO question seemed to ask something similar, but none of the proposed solutions seem to work in this case. Edit: I should also point out that when the radio button is rendered after the refresh in FF, it's not actually being displayed as checked either, despite what the HTML is telling me.   • iPad doesn't trigger resize event going from vertical to horizontal?

    Has anyone noticed this behavior? I'm trying to write a script that will trigger upon a resize. It works fine on normal browsers, works fine on iPhone, but on iPad, will only trigger going from horizontal to vertical viewport, not vice versa.   • JavaScript find box

    I'd like to duplicate the find feature (Ctrl-F in Firefox) for my users. In other words, a text box that as the user types, it finds the first occurrence of that text, and if they press "Next", it highlights the next occurrence and moves the page if necessary. I'm thinking the search input would have to be in a div that remained fixed, and as it found what it was looking for, would insert a named anchor just before it and then follow the hyperlink. Do you think this can be done?

  • Images are overflowing their container in IE8 with Fancybox

    In a sort of follow up to this question, I have another problem in IE8. When clicking the gallery and the lightbox appears, the images are overflowing their containing element (by the looks of things). Has anyone ever experienced this before? Of course, the good guys (Firefox/Safari/etc) display it perfectly. How do I fix this? Thanks UPDATE Should I just got with a new Lightbox?
