ssl between balancer members?

I have apache running on one machine as a load balancer: <VirtualHost *:443> ServerName ssl.example.com DocumentRoot /home/example/public SSLEngine on SSLCertificateFile /etc/pki/tls/certs/example.crt SSLCertificateKeyFile /etc/pki/tls/private/example.key <Proxy balancer://myappcluster> BalancerMember http://app1.example.com:12345 route=app1 BalancerMember http://app2.example.com:12345 route=app2 </Proxy> ProxyPass / balancer://myappcluster/ stickysession=_myapp_session ProxyPassReverse / balancer://myappcluster/ </VirtualHost> Note that the balancer takes requests under SSL port 443, but then communicates to the balancer members on a non-ssl port. Is it possible to have the forwarding to the balancer members be under SSL too? If so, is this the best/recommended way? If so, do I have to have another SSL cert for each balancer member? Does the SSLProxyEngine directive have anything to do with this?

How to set up dual quadro cards on RHEL 5.5?

I have a RHEL 5 workstation with 2 nvidia Quadro FX4500 cards, with one display attached to each card. After doing a clean install of RHEL 5.5, the second display doesnt work (it worked ok in RHEL 5.2). Neither separate X screens nor Xinerama are working. The kernel version is 2.6.18-194.el5 I've tried nvidia drivers 185.18.36 (the ones that i was using on 5.2) and the latest 260.19.36 and neither works. How to Recover HDD Formatted by "Create a Recovery Drive" Tool of Windows 8.1?

I have 2 TB USB HDD which had these drives F: about 1 TB with 750 GB data H: about 120 GB with 60 GB data I: about 780 GB with 250 GB data (For TV: It was raw in Windows but visible in the Smart TV) I took 521 MB from last part of H to get new G drive. Then I run "Create a Recovery Drive" tool of Windows 8.1 and chose G drive. It said all data in the drive will be deleted. I thought it is just G drive but it deleted my whole HDD. It created 32 GB new F drive with writing 337 MB on it and rest of HDD is unallocated. I tried these programs to get my first 3 drives but non of them helped for getting 1st partition. Static error page served by nginx when my application is down

So every URL like http://example.com/* should server a static html file, like /var/www/example/foo.html. Trying to specify that in my nginx config is giving me fits and infinite loops and whatnot. I'm trying things like location / { root /var/www/example; index foo.html; rewrite ^/.+$ foo.html; } How would you get every URL on your domain to serve a single static file?

HP-UX - custom rsync path

There are a range of HP-UX 11.11 hosts I'm unable to install rsync (I'm limited to a non-privileged user) I've extracted both rsync binary and libpopt.sl, libiconv.sl, libintl.sl from the depots into one of that user's directories: /home/zenith/rsync/ Problem is, I can't get my RH Linux box communicating with it: rsync -e --rsync-path=/home/zenith/rsync/rsync --compress=9 -pgtov --filter=+rs_/'*.log' --exclude='*' [email protected]:/home/zenith/service/logs/ /u01/rsync_depot/service/192.102.14.18/ /usr/lib/dld.sl: Can't find path for shared library: libintl.sl /usr/lib/dld.sl: No such file or directory sh: 1644 Abort(coredump) I've added to the remote host .profile export SHLIB_PATH=/usr/lib:/home/zenith/rsync export PATH=$PATH:/home/zenith/rsync but still, no libintl.sl is found. How well will ntpd work when the latency is highly variable?

I have an application where we are using some non-standard networking equipment (cannot be changed) that goes into a dormant state between traffic bursts. The network latency is very high for the first packet since it's essentially waking the system, waiting for it to reconnect, and then making the first round-trip. Subsequent messages (provided they are within the next minute or so) are much faster, but still highly-latent. A typical set of pings will look like 2500ms, 900ms, 880ms, 885ms, 900ms, 890ms, etc. Given that NTP uses several round trips before computing the offset, how well can I expect ntpd to work over this kind of link? Will the initially slow first round trip be ignored based on the much different (and faster) following messages to/from the ntp server? Thanks and Regards.

Domain points me to some malicious URL and I can't get rid of it

Whenever I enter my URL into the browser, it keeps pointing me to http://fornax.myvnc.com/dev The URL doesn't even work and my antivirus doesn't complain about it so I am not sure what is happening. I logged into my domain manager at godaddy and it says that the nameservers are pointing to: NS46.DOMAINCONTROL.COM and I am not sure where this came from either because my hosting is with lunarpages whose nameserver is NS1.LUNARMANIA.COM I tried looking into my .htaccess and it is blank. My index.php was hijacked with some malicious code so I removed it completely. Everything is supposed to be normal now but still some kind of a redirection is taking place and am not sure where this is happening. Any suggestions?

Compiling zip component for PHP 5.2.11 in MAMP PRO

Helo I installed MAMP PRO on my Macbook Pro (10.6) some time ago. Now I would like to use zip functions in php. I found that I must add zip.so to my extension folder and edited php.ini. On my computer I have two different versions of PHP one in MAMP folder and other in user/lib which was pre-installed on my system. Now I wish to compile my zip library for MAMP version. I got zip sources for my version of PHP then in terminal called function /Applications/MAMP/bin/php5/bin/phpize so it uses mamp php version ./configure make then I moved compile zip.so to extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20060613. When MAMP is launched it returns this error: [11-Apr-2010 16:33:27] PHP Warning: PHP Startup: zip: Unable to initialize module Module compiled with module API=20090626, debug=0, thread-safety=0 PHP compiled with module API=20060613, debug=0, thread-safety=0 These options need to match in Unknown on line 0 Can some body explain to me how to do this the right way.

nginx regex characters that require quoting?

So I was configuring nginx today and I hit a weird problem. I was trying to match a location like this: location ~ ^/([0-9]+)/(.*) { # do proxy redirects } ...for URLs like "http://my.domain.com/0001/index.html". This rule was never matching, despite the fact that it by all rights should. It took me awhile to figure out, based on this documentation, that some characters in regexes need to be quoted. The problem is, the documentation is for rewrites, and it specifically calls out curly braces, not square brackets. After a fair bit of experimentation that involved a lot of swearing, I discovered that I could fix the problem by quoting the regex like so: location ~ "^/([0-9]+)/(.*)" { # do proxy redirects } Is there a list somewhere of characters that nginx requires quoting regexes with? Or could there be something else going on here that I'm totally missing? This is my first nginx configuration job, so it's very possible I've misunderstood something...

Quickly open Windows Mobility Center in Windows 8 "tablet" mode

I am using a Surface Pro (2013). I would like to know if there is a quick way to open the Windows Mobility Center desktop program. I like to use this program because it is easy to manipulate during the "tablet" (non-keyboard, no-mouse) mode. This program has multiple ways to be started, according to From How to Open and Use Mobility Center in Windows 7 and Windows 8: (Windows 8) Press Windows key + X and select Mobility Center Open the Control Panel and select "Windows Mobility Center" Open the Run dialog and type "mblctr.exe" and press Enter key. None of these are quick and easy when in "tablet" mode. I would ideally like to swipe from right screen edge into to open the Settings pop up and select one icon that opens the Mobility Center. Alternatively, another way I would like to have implemented would be to touch the Windows icon on the tablet screen outside of the viewing area and touch an "app" to launch the Mobility Center. Alternatively, it would be nice to have a Live Tile App that duplicates this functionality.

Windows 7 PC crashes after being locked a few minutes

I have a problem with an Optiplex 755 PC running (32-bit) Windows 7 Professional. I just installed the operating system last week, and ever since, it seems to crash when I lock the screen. It doesn't happen immediately; it's usually after I walk away, so a few minutes (but I'm not sure exactly how many). I have this non-specific error in the Event log. I've run a chkdsk, thinking it might be hard drive-related, but that didn't help. postfix 5.7.1 Relay access denied when sending mail with cron

Reluctant to ask because there is so much here about 'postfix relay access denied' but I cannot find my case: I use php (Zend Framework) to send emails outside my network using the Google mail server because I could not send mail outside my server (user: web). However when I sent out an email via cron (user: root, I believe), still using ZF, using the same mail config/credentials, I get the message: '5.7.1 Relay access denied' I guess I need to know one of two things: 1. How can I use the google smtp server from cron 2. What do I need to change in my config to send mail using my own server instead of google Though the answer to 2. is the more structural solution I assume, I am quite happy with an answer to 1. as well because I think Google is better at server maintaince (security/spam) than I am. Samsung 830 very slow benchmark numbers

I just bought a new SSD, and installed a fresh copy of Windows on it. I didn't see any noticeable difference in boot times, app start-up times, so I decided to benchmark it. Asus P7P55D-E Intel i5-760 Samsung 830 256GB SATA III Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit The Windows experience index gave the drive a 7.3 rating, but real-world performance is not particularly impressive. Any ideas why the numbers are so low? UPDATE: It turns out that SATA III support is turned off by default on the P7P55D motherboard. After enabling it in BIOS (Tools - Level Up), the scores went up: Read Write Seq 325 183 4K 16 49 IOPS 32K 28K It's an improvement, but still far below what they should be for this drive.

Windows 8 - can't drag files from Explorer and drop on applications

In Windows 8 I find I can't drag files to applications like I've been able to do for as long as I can remember. Example: Drag MP3s to Winamp Drag folder full of music to Winamp Drag videos to VLC Drag txt, reg etc files to Notepad I have tried various combinations of: Running Explorer as administrator Running drop target as administrator Taking ownership of drop target application's folder Taking ownership of Explorer Changing user account to administrator Create a new user account Lowering UAC level Disabling UAC in GUI Disabling UAC in registry Running Explorer folders in a separate thread This is the last straw if there's no known proper (ie non hacky compromise) fix for this. "Little" things like this combined are a productivity nightmare and if I have to relearn so much and configure so much to get basic things done with an OS I might as well just move to Linux once and for all.

Effect of NonBlockingSendSpecialBuffering setting on Windows

Recently I ran into some issue related to the UDP sending on Windows. When the application tries to send the packets over UDP in non-blocking mode, often it received socket error 10035 (WSAEWOULDBLOCK) in the send(), so likely that the socket buffer is full. I only seen this issue on Windows 2008 and did not see the same problem on Windows 2003. I was doing some research and found the following article (although it mention TCP) http://support.microsoft.com/kb/823764 At the bottom it mentioned updating of the registry value HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\AFD\Parameters\NonBlockingSendSpecialBuffering to 1 But it didn't include further details Would anyone know what is the effect of setting this registry value and what does it do? I tried to research on the web but unable to find any reference, including the msdn website. Any help would be appreciated.

for what reason live USB linux images are not 100% persistent?

I understand that during CD-R times non-persistence had a purpose, but what's the purpose now that pretty much everyone uses USB flash drivers? not to mention USB3 sticks are pretty much 4x faster than my HD raid. I'm writing this while taking a break going over the linux from scratch guide... And i'm still baffled that this is not the norm already with all live images. So, Is there any reason (besides historical) that i'm missing and that will bite me after I finish this ext3-rw image?

Determining who is running with administrator rights?

I work at a small non-profit organization with about 55 desktop PCs running Windows XP Pro. The domain controller is running Windows Server 2003. I have a two-part question (note that I'm a bit of a newb when it comes to network administration). Part 1: Is there some simple way that I can determine which accounts are logged in with administrator rights? Part 2: Is there a way that I can remove administrator rights from users without sitting down at each individual machine? Thanks for considering my questions.

Citrix Secure Gateway not redirecting to login URL

We have an older setup for XenApp - users log in through Citrix Secure Gateway running on a windows box. (We hope to start using a NetScaler soon.) Earlier today, connections to https://citrix.company.com/ starting throwing up a 503 error page, instead of redirecting to https://citrix.company.com/Citrix/XenApp/ If you go directly to the /Citrix/Xenapp/ URL, the user is properly directed to the login page, and can launch apps. We've restarted the service, and rebooted the server. We haven't yet tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software. Before we do this, I'm looking for ideas as to how we can get the redirect working again without a fairly major outage window. To make things more interesting, many of our users have Citrix Receiver installed, also pointed at https://citrix.company.com/. Receiver makes itself the default launcher for ICA files, and gives a connection error when it tries to load apps - probably because of the same non-functional rediect?

Does anyone provide a Skype connection service?

Is there a way of offering Skype access to incoming calls while keeping all telephony traffic over our chosen business telephony provision? Is there a 3rd party who can route incoming Skype calls to our telephone system? The business has had requests from contacts wanting to call us via Skype, but we want to keep all telephony via our PBX and phone lines as our geographic location limits our available internet bandwidth. We also prevent installation of non-standard applications on desktops and do not want to add Skype to our build. I was wondering if there were any 3rd parties that provide a connection service that would allow our contacts to call via Skype and us receive the calls via our phone system.

Apache Options -Indexes give me 404 instead of 403, why?

I have an Apache/2.2.21 (Debian) webserver, which I disabled directory listing with Options -Indexes but now I got 404 error for a directory, but I think I should get a 403. I have no idea why I get 404, rather than 403. What should I check? I have disabled autoindex module, after it I got a 404 for every URL that request a directory listing (eg: www.somesite.com/dir ). How can I get a 403 for this. (The dir does exist) As a try I also put Options -Index in the end of main config file (apache2.conf).

Setup asp.net mvc application as subdomain website

I'm trying to setup a local application on a subdomain on our company server. There is already an installation of sharepoint running on http://companyweb/, but I would like my application to run on http://orders.companyweb/. I tried creating a new website, leaving the IP address the same as it is for http://companyweb, and just changing the host header value to orders.companyweb. However, no matter where I try to access the site from (different computers around the network, including the server itself), I keep getting 404 errors. I then tried setting up a simple index.html and serving that up as the highest priority; however, I still got 404 errors. This makes me think that I have actually setup the site itself wrong. What should I change to be able to access this application correctly on all the local computers?

What is the best way to hide a command prompt window

I'm running the headless interface of VirtualBox (VBoxHeadless.exe) with Ubuntu Server running on it. Every time I run VBoxHeadless, it starts a command prompt window which just sits on the taskbar taking space which could have been used by more useful programs. I want to hide this non-functional command prompt window (minimize to system tray or anything that just removes it visibly). How can I do this? It would be really cool, if this can be achieved without installing any 'minimize to system tray' utility. Any ideas??

Error pushing to remote with git

I have a fresh Centos 6 server stood up and I have installed git version 1.7.1 through yum. I am using the smart http method through apache for access. When I try to push to the remote server this is what I get: $ git push origin master Password: Counting objects: 6, done. Compressing objects: 100% (3/3), done. Writing objects: 100% (6/6), 436 bytes, done. Total 6 (delta 0), reused 0 (delta 0) error: unpack failed: index-pack abnormal exit I have tried these things which made no difference: chown -R apache:apache /path/to/git/repository (httpd runs as apache) chown -R apache:users /path/to/git/repository chmod -R 777 /path/to/git/repository (obviously not secure but wanted to eliminate this being a file permission problem) What can I try to get pushing to work?

Google and Yahoo redirect my site to malware, but direct url works fine. Any computer

I can go directly to the site doublewing.org or www. without issue, but if I click on the link in google or yahoo it redirects to spam sites. Swagbucks works though! This is not on a single computer this happens on systems isolated from each other(Try it, avast blocks it) . The site is runing joomla 1.5.25 . I deleted .htacces, put fresh index.php and index2.php files. and still get the same results. Any ideas?
