  • How dinamically set validation attributes to a Model MVC 2?

    Lets says I have the following model public class Person { [NameIsValid] public string Name { get; set;} public string LastName { get; set; } } I created a custom attribute NameIsValid for this model. Lets says for ViewA I need the custom attribute validation in the model, but for ViewB I dont need this custom validation attribute, how can I dinamically set or remove the custom attribute from the model when need it?     I'm just looking in to the new .NET 4.0 features. With that, I'm attempting a simple calculation using Parallel.For and a normal for(x;x;x) loop. However, I'm getting different results about 50% of the time. long sum = 0; Parallel.For(1, 10000, y => { sum += y; } ); Console.WriteLine(sum.ToString()); sum = 0; for (int y = 1; y < 10000; y++) { sum += y; } Console.WriteLine(sum.ToString()); My guess is that the threads are trying to update "sum" at the same time. Is there an obvious way around it?

  • Changing populated DataTable column data types

    Hi, I have a System.Data.DataTable which is populated by reading a CSV file which sets the datatype of each column to string. I want to append the contents of the DataTable to an existing database table - currently this is done using SqlBulkCopy with the DataTable as the source. However, the column data types of the DataTable need to be changed to match the schema of the target database table, handling null values. I am not very familiar with ADO.NET so have been search for a clean way of doing this? Thanks.

  • Howto synchronize two folders (on different servers) after an (classic) ASP upload.

    hi I'm using a customized backend to upload images on a server. The issue is that the client has a load balanced server so I need to synchronize the upload folders on both server. I'm not able to know which server is executing on the backend. I'm just wondering which is the best way to compare and synchronize the folders on two servers? An FTP script using the windows "cron-job"? A shell script activated by ASP? Aa ASP script that uses FTP commands? thanks

  • using < > in a ASP.NET MVC Form causing problems...

    I have a problem that seems like there should be a simple solution but haven't found it yet. I have a pretty simple form that calls an action and passes it a FormCollection via HTTP Post. The form works perfectly until I introduce < or > into the field. Then I end up on a blank page having skipped the Action altogether. Need more information? Have any suggestions? Please help!

    The ASP.NET MVC HTML helper methods like .LabelFor and .EditorFor use model metadata to autogenerate labels for model properties. By default it uses the property name for the label text, but if that’s not appropriate, you can use a DisplayName attribute to specify the desired label text: [DisplayName("Remember me?")] public bool RememberMe { get; set; } I’m working on a multi-language web site, so the labels need to be localized. I tried pointing the DisplayName attribute to a resource string: [DisplayName(MyResource.RememberMe)] public bool RememberMe { get; set; } …but that results in the compiler error "An attribute argument must be a constant expression, typeof expression or array creation expression of an attribute parameter type”. I got around this by creating a custom LocalizedDisplayNameAttribute class that inherits from DisplayNameAttribute: 1: public class LocalizedDisplayNameAttribute : DisplayNameAttribute 2: { 3: public LocalizedDisplayNameAttribute(string resourceKey) 4: { 5: ResourceKey = resourceKey; 6: } 7:   8: public override string DisplayName 9: { 10: get 11: { 12: string displayName = MyResource.ResourceManager.GetString(ResourceKey); 13:   14: return string.IsNullOrEmpty(displayName) 15: ? string.Format("[[{0}]]", ResourceKey) 16: : displayName; 17: } 18: } 19:   20: private string ResourceKey { get; set; } 21: } Instead of a display string, it takes a constructor argument of a resource key. The DisplayName method is overridden to get the display string from the resource file (line 12). If the key is not found, I return a formatted string containing the key (e.g. “[[RememberMe]]”) so I can tell by looking at my web pages which resource keys I haven’t defined yet (line 15). The usage of my custom attribute in the model looks like this: [LocalizedDisplayName("RememberMe")] public bool RememberMe { get; set; } That was my first attempt at localized display names, and it’s a technique that I still use in some cases, but in my next post I’ll talk about the method that I now prefer, a custom DataAnnotationsModelMetadataProvider class…

    Areas are a great feature of MVC now. The let you put common code into an Area and then its segregated from other code. That makes it really easy to put those common feature in one spot and not have the interfere with other code. So today I was working on a new area and starting to test code in it. But the controller method could not be found. Testing the routes and all of the names proved no help either. So I am banging my head against the wall. Then I took a peak at one of the existing controllers in another Area in the same app. Looked similar, but … There was a Namespaceat the top of that controller with that Area in the Namespace.  I had copied my controller in from somewhere else and therefore it did not have the Namespace there.   I put in the right Namespace and cool, it worked right away. So add that to your list when testing.

  • Ridiculously easy AJAX with ASP.NET MVC and jQuery

    After deciding I wanted to dive full-on into the world of ASP.NET MVC 2, I  began doing some research into what would be the best way to support some of my required AJAX functionality on this platform.  The result of these efforts was a barrage of options – many of which required completely different JScript infrastructure than what I planned to go forward with.  As I’ve been delighted with jQuery so far, I began tossing out all approaches that didn’t natively leverage it… Thus, I planned to resist the temptation to take anymore <script> dependencies whatsoever, unless I thoroughly proved that jQuery could NOT do what I planned to do.   Here’s some code I wish I would’ve found early in my research.  This would’ve saved me quite a bit of time and search engine bandwidth. ;-)   <script type="text/javascript">     $(document).ready(function () {         $('#div_name_here').load('<%=Url.Action("ACTION_NAME_HERE","CONTROLLER_NAME_HERE")%>');         $('#id_of_link_I_want_trigger_the_ajax_call')       .bind('click', function (event) {           $('#div_name_where_I_want_to_have_the_ajax_response_loaded_here').load('<%=Url.Action("ACTION_HERE","CONTROLLER_HERE", )%>');       })     }) </script>

  • ASP.NET MVC 3 (C#) Software Architecture

    I am starting on a relatively large and ambitious ASP.NET MVC 3 project and just thinking about the best way to organize my code. The project is basically going to be a general management system that will be capable of supporting any type management system whether it be a blogging system, cms, reservation system, wikis, forums, project management system, etc…, each of them being just a separate 'module'. For those who don't want to read the long blog post the basic idea is that the core system itself is nothing more than a users system with an admin interface to manage the users system. Then you just add on module as you need them and the module I will be creating is a simple blog post to test it out before I move on to the big module which is a project management system. Now I am just trying to think of the best way to structure this so that it is easy for users to add in there own modules but easy for me to update to core system without worrying about the user modifying the core code. I think the ideal way would be to have a number of core projects that user is specifically told not to modify otherwise the system may become unstable and future updates would not work. When the user wants to add in there own modules, they would just add in a new project (or multiple projects). The thing is I am not sure that it is even possible to use multiple projects all with their own controllers, razor view template, css, javascript, etc... in one web application. Ideally each module would have some of it own razor view templates, css, javascript, image files and also need access to some of the core razor view templates, css, javascript, image files which would is in a separate project. It is possible to have 1 web application run off of controllers, razor view templates, css, javascript, image files that are store in multiple projects? Is there a better was to structure this to allow the user to easily add in module with having to modify the core code?

  • Error with ReportViewer in ASP.NET: "The server is not a compatible version" ?

    I deployed some SSRS reports created in Visual Studio 2008 to localhost:8080/ReportServer. ( Using VS 2008 .NET , Version 9.0.21022.8, SQL Server 2008 and XP Prof.) Calling them in the Webbrowser works fine, but now I'm trying to use them in an ASP.NET app with ReportViewer in VS 2008 and using local ASP.NET Development Server. Excecuting the following Code: ReportViewer1.ProcessingMode = ProcessingMode.Remote; IReportServerCredentials irsc = new CustomReportCredentials("xxx", "xxx", "xxx"); ReportViewer1.ServerReport.ReportServerCredentials = irsc; ReportViewer1.ServerReport.ReportServerUrl = new Uri("http://localhost:8080/ReportServer/ReportService2005.asmx?wsdl"); ReportViewer1.ServerReport.ReportPath = @"/AdventureWorks Sample Reports/Sales Order Detail"; ReportViewer1.ServerReport.Refresh(); results in the following exception: "# The version of the report server web service definition (WSDL) is either not valid or unrecognized. The server is not a compatible version. * System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: Server did not recognize the value of HTTP Header 'SOAPAction': http://schemas.microsoft.com/sqlserver/2005/06/30/reporting/reportingservices/LoadReport..."
