  • How to use the unit of work and repository patterns in a service oriented enviroment

    I've created an application framework using the unit of work and repository patterns for it's data layer. Data consumer layers such as presentation depend on the data layer design. For example a CRUD abstract form has a dependency to a repository (IRepository). This architecture works like a charm in client/server environments (Ex. a WPF application and a SQL Server). But I'm looking for a good pattern to change or reuse this architecture for a service oriented environment. Of course I have some ideas: Idea 1: The "Adapter" design pattern Keep the current architecture and create a new unit of work and repository implementation which can work with a service instead of the ORM. Data layer consumers are loosely coupled to the data layer so it's possible but the problem is about the unit of work; I have to create a context which tracks the objects state at the client side and sends the changes to the server side on calling the "Commit" (Something that I think the RIA has done for Silverlight). Here the diagram: ----------- CLIENT----------- | ------------------ SERVER ---------------------- [ UI ] -> [ UoW/Repository ] ---> [ Web Services ] -> [ UoW/Repository ] -> [DB] Idea 2: Add another layer Add another layer (let say "local services" or "data provider"), then put it between the data layer (unit of work and repository) and the data consumer layers (like UI). Then I have to rewrite the consumer classes (CRUD and other classes which are dependent to IRepository) to depend on another interface.     We set the Group Policy for our Domain and OUs to show the logon message: Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Options\ Interactive logon: Message text for users attempting to log on but nothing happen when the client computer logon. I checked the RSOP.MSC to see the group policy that set and the message is set on client computer but it doesn't show at the logon prompt. so what should I do? We have Windows server 2003 AD and Windows XP Pro on client computer.

  • TightVNC (or any VNC) viewer windows scaling

    Hi, I am currently using TightVNC to connect to multiple remote hosts in LAN. I start 16 VNC viewers, set Scaling by: Auto (in connection options display), and then select all viewer windows and use Tile Horizontally, which covers my entire screen with VNC viewers. It all works sort of nice, except that desktop interaction is really slow when there are more then 4 VNC viewers. My question is, does VNC client (not just TightVNC, but any compatible client) support some kind of smart scaling option, so that client tells server something along the lines of: "Okay, I'm displaying your entire screen in a window size 300x225 px, so can you please start sending encoded images on that resolution?", at which point interactiveness of open connections dramatically increase, and when I decide to go full screen on some connection, client and server re-negotiate and server starts sending full resolution images again?   • IIS 7.5 Manager crashes when adding a custom error page

    I'm running a local IIS 7.5 server in Win 7 Pro, and I'm trying to add a custom error page for 403 responses. When I click OK to add a custom error page for my site, IIS Manager just vanishes. The server is still running, and I can re-start IIS Manager, but the new page has not been saved. I've also tried adding it directly to web.config, but that just gives me The page cannot be displayed because an internal server error has occurred. Does anyone know why this might be happening? Edit: The event log implies that an invalid character in the path caused the crash, but It occured even when I copied & pasted a path from a valid entry.     I have Chrome associated with .xlsx file on windows 8.1 machine In Control Panel\Programs\Default Programs\Set Associations it is not possible to remove association only to change it to another program. In Control Panel\Programs\Default Programs\Set Default Programs\Set Program Associations , .xlsx is not present in Chrome. I removed all keys from HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.xlsx Still Chrome remains associated with that extension in Control Panel\Programs\Default Programs\Set Associations, Windows Explorer shows the Chrome icon with the .xlsx file.

    Possible Duplicate: When is a BIG Rewrite the answer? Software rewriting alternatives Are there any actual case studies on rewrites of software success/failure rates? When should you rewrite? We're not a software company. Is a complete re-write still a bad idea? Have you ever been involved in a BIG Rewrite? This is an area of discussion I have long been curious about, but overall, I generally lack the experience to give myself an answer that I would fully trust. We've all been there, a new client shows up with a half-complete project they are looking to finish and launch. For whatever reason, they fired their previous developer, and it's now up to you to save the day. I am just finishing up a code review for a new client, and in my estimation is would be better to scrap what the previous developers built since and start from scratch. There's a ton of reasons why I am leaning toward this way, but it still makes me nervous since the client isn't going to want to hear "those last guys built you a big turd, and I can either polish it, or throw it in the trash". What are your general rules for accepting these projects? How do you determine whether it will be better to start from scratch or continue with the existing code base? What other extra steps might you take to help control client expectations, since the previous developer may have inflated those expectations beyond a reasonable level? Any other general advice?

    I am pretty new to exposing the WCF services hosted on IIS over internet. I will be deploying a WCF service over IIS(6 or 7) and would like to expose this service over the internet. This will be hosted in a corporate network having firewall, I want this service to be accessible over the internet(should be able to pass through the firewall) I did some research on this and some of the pointers I got: 1. I could use wsHTTPBinding or nettcpbinding (the client is intended to be .net client). Which of the bindings is preferable. 2. To overcome the corporate I came across DMZ server, what is the purpose of this and do I really need to use this). 3. I will be passing some files between the client and server, and the client needs to know the progress of the processing on server and the end result. I know this is a very broad question to ask, but could anyone give me pointers where I could start on this and what approach to take for this problem.

    I am having some trouble getting the logic down for this. Currently, I have an app that animates the astar pathfinding algorithm. On start of the app, the ui will show the following: User can press "space" to randomly choose start/end coords, then the app will animate it. Or, user can choose the start/end by left-click/right-click. During the animation, the user can also left-click to generate blocks, or right-click to choose a new destiantion. Where I am stuck at is how to handle the events while the app is animating. Right now, I am checking events in the main loop, then when the app is animating, I do event checks again. While it works fine, I feel that I am probably doing it wrong. What is the proper way of setting up the main loop that will handle the events while the app is animating? In main loop, the app start animating once user choose start/end.   • What ports does Advantage Database Server need?

    I have an application which uses ADS and I am attempting to deploy it in a Windows network environment with a rather restrictive firewall. I am having a problem configuring firewall ports appropriately. ADS lives on \\server, and it's listening on port 1234. When \\client tries to connect to \\server\tables, I get Error 6420 (Discovery process failed). When \client tries to connect to \\server:1234\tables, I get error 6097, bad IP address specified in the connection path. \\server is pingable from \\client, and I can telnet to \server:1234. If I try to connect from a client machine inside the firewall, either connection path works fine. It seems there must be something else I need to open in the firewall. Any ideas? Thanks, Aaron. Edit: I should have specified that the firewall is open to \\server:1234 specifically for TCP traffic. Is UDP involved here in some way?

  • ssh login successful, but scp password gives me "Permission denied"

    I'm trying to get some blogging software up on an organizational remote server. I tried to set up a SSH Key but was having problems and decided that getting the blog up and running was more important than dealing with the SSH Key issue, so I ssh-keygen -R remoteserver.com. Now I can successfully login with ssh -v [email protected] and the correct password. Once logged in I can move around and read any file and directory that I should be able to read. But when I try to edit an existing -rw-r--r-- file with VIM, it shows up as read-only, if I try to edit permissions I get chmod: file.ext: Operation not permitted, and if I try to scp a new file from my local machine I'm prompted for the remote user's password, and then get scp: /home/path/to/file.ext: Permission denied. Since I didn't have any of these problems before I tried to set up the ssh key, I suspect these anomalies are a side effect of that, but I don't know how to troubleshoot this. So what does a foolish server-newb, such as myself, need to do to get edit capability back as a remote user? Addendum 1: My userids are different between my local machine and the remote server. It’s a cognitive software agent called sysbrain, and it allows satellites to read English-language technical documents, which in turn instruct the satellites on how to do things such as autonomously identifying and avoiding obstacles." Gee, why does this sound so incredibly familiar?  Skynet (Terminator) "In the Terminator storyline, Skynet was originally installed into the U.S. military mainframe to control the national arsenal on August 4, 1997. On August 29 it gained self-awareness[1] and the panicking operators, realizing the extent of its abilities, attempted to shut it down. Skynet perceived the attempt to deactivate it as an attack and came to the conclusion that all of humanity would attempt to destroy it. To defend itself, it determined that humanity should be exterminated." Alright so it's not in control of the national arsenal, but it's only a matter of time before one of these satellites read Snooki's book and convinces a military satellite that we need to be exterminated.

    I have CentOS 5 installed on my server. I'm in VPS server. I have site where I have constant online ~150. First look on site looks OK. But when I go through links, sometimes I receive Out of memory PHP error. It looks like this Fatal error: Out of memory (allocated 36962304) (tried to allocate 7680 bytes) in /home/host/public_html/sites/all/modules/cck/modules/fieldgroup/fieldgroup.install on line 100 And always, not allocated memory is very small. In average I have 30% CPU load, 25% RAM load. So I think here is not a physical memory problem. My PHP memory limit was set to 1500MB.     After cinnamon upgrade to 2.0.6-20131026040307-precise via synaptic, the "cinnamon settings" gui or window is broken. It appears blank, only showing the configuration category icons for "Appearance", "Preferences", "Hardware", and "Administration". The icons that should be within these categories are gone. I don't know if cinnamon-control-center was removed during the last cinnamon update, but this issue began on Oct. 25.     When creating a System DSN, I get the error: Connection failed: SQLState: '08001' SQL Server Error: 2 [Microsoft][SQL Server Native Client 10.0]Named Pipes Provider: Could not open a connection to SQL Server [2]. Connection failed: SQLState: 'HYT00' SQL Server Error: 0 [Microsoft][SQL Server Native Client 10.0]Login timeout expired I'm running Vista Home Premium 64-bit SP2, and installed SQL Server 2008 Express Advanced without errors. I'll be using the database locally for an app installed on the same PC. I'm able to successfully connect with SQL Server Management Studio using Windows Authentication (my Windows account is a member of local Administrators), and I can successfully create a database with default ownership (defaults to my Windows account). SQL Server Configuration Manager shows that Shared Memory, TCP/IP, and Named Pipes are enabled for SQL Native Client 10.0 Configuration, SQL Native Client 10.0 Configuration (32bit), and SQL Server Network Configuration (SQLEXPRESS). The SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS) and SQL Server Reporting Services (SQLEXPRESS) services are running. When I create a system DSN, my driver choices are SQL server (sqlsrv32.dll 4-10-09), which gives a generic wizard, and SQL Server Native Client 10.0 (sqlncli10.dll 7-10-08), which gives the SQL Server 2008 wizard. I choose the latter. I enter name, description, and have tried both MyPCName and 127.0.0.1 for the server name (browsing turns up nothing). After clicking Next, I leave it at Integrated Windows authentication, and leave Connect to server for additional options checked. After clicking Next, I get the error above. I know it's probably a simple answer, (permission issue?) and I'm a SQL noob, so I appreciate anything that would point me in the right direction. Thanks!

    How can I measure Citrix receiver framerate at the client end? I've tried FRAPS, but that doesn't seem to work. Is there a way to determine how many "frames" are sent per second from the client side? Assume a Windows 7 client connecting to a Windows 7 VM using the Citrix web plugin. To restate the question, how could I potentially measure the Citrix client's frame display rate for some 200px^2 area? Assume that the remote VM will try and play back a frame sequence at 24fps. Will any frames drop?
