  • Java EE@Java Day Taipei 2014

    Java Day Taipei 2014 was held at the Taipei International Convention Center on August 1st. Organized by Oracle University, it is one of the largest Java developer events in Taiwan. This was another successful year for Java Day Taipei with a fully sold out venue. In addition to Oracle speakers like me, Steve Chin and Naveen Asrani, the event also featured a bevy of local speakers including Taipei Java community leaders. Topics included Java SE, Java EE, JavaFX and Big Data. I delivered a keynote on Java EE 7/Java EE 8 as well as a talks on aligning the JavaScript ecosystem with Java EE 7 and using NoSQL solutions in Java EE applications.   • Exadata, Exalogic and Exalytics Partner Demo Equipment Purchase Initiative

    Oracle is pleased to announce that as part of the Demo Equipment Purchase Program, until December 31, 2012, Oracle VADs may purchase Exadata, Exalogic and Exalytics configurations, for their own demonstration purposes or to distribute to a partner for the partner's demonstration use, at 25% off the list price. In addition, purchasing partners will be eligible to receive 10% of list price (excluding support) in MDF funds to support the partner's Exadata/Exalogic/Exalytics demand generation activities.     Two new Java ME related JSRs were submitted to the JCP program office this week and are now available for review. JSR 360, Connected Limited Device Configuration (CLDC) 8, has been submitted by Oracle for JSR Review.  This review period is open until 15 October.  The ME EC will vote on the JSR Approval Ballot 16-29 October. JSR 361 Java ME Embedded Profile, has been submitted by Oracle for JSR Review. This review period is open until 15 October.  The ME EC will vote on the JSR Approval Ballot 16-29 October.

  • GlassFish Community Event @ JavaOne - Save the date!

    The interest for having a GlassFish community event at JavaOne is still very strong both inside Oracle and in the community, so this year again we'll be hosting a get together on the Sunday prior to the main event. If you're in town and attending JavaOne, mark your calendars : Sunday 2nd, October 2011 - 12:30pm-4:30pm in the Moscone This will be an opportunity to discuss the community status (adoption of Java EE 6, GlassFish 3.1.x) and hear about future plans, mainly around Java EE 7 and the related GlassFish release(s). We'd also like to have several participants share their deployment stories as well as some time for an free-form unconference format and some team building activity. Of course, beyond all the content shared in slides, this should really also be a good excuse to meet folks from the community and from the core GlassFish team at Oracle. Here's a post on last year's event. And before anybody asks, we are still exploring the party situation :-)

  • How to use NVIDIA GeForce M310 on Ubuntu 12.10 running as guest in Virtualbox?

    Last couple of weeks played around with Ubuntu 12.10. This is running as a guest on Virtualbox hosted at Windows 7. There have been some challenges with the Unity 3D stuff. Particular due to not supporting X11 release 1.13 till very recently. Since today we are able to download Virtualbox version 4.2.2 which has through guest additions also support for X11 release 1.13. SO far great work everybody. Since Unity now only runs in 3D mode it would be nice to access the graphics card directly from Virtualbox. lshw -c display shows: VGA compatible controller; product: VirtualBox Graphics Adapter. QUESTION: how to get the 3D and other graphics directly supported by the hardware ie Nvidia GeForce M310

  • Unable to start ubuntu

    Need your help here: I'm unable to start Wbuntu in my laptop. I'm sharing ubuntu with Windows 7 in my laptop, and after I install Ubuntu when I boot my laptop and choose ubuntu as my operating system the following error appears: Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem: Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer Choose your language settings, and then click "Next." Click "Repair your computer." If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance. File: \ubuntu\winboot\wubildr.mbr Status: 0xc0000098 Info: The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt. Any ideas?

  • Desktop empty under Ubuntu 12.04

    My problem is that my desktop is empty -- there are no files or directories in it. The launcher on the left and the menu at the top are both ok. But, after a recent upgrade from 12.04 to 12.10, everything in my Desktop was emptied. I do have files in my ~/Desktop directory, which is what I want displayed. In ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs, I also have XDG_DESKTOP_DIR="$HOME/Desktop/". Is there something else I should be looking for? I actually have another Ubuntu machine and I don't have the same problem there after upgrading. So, I don't think this is a bug with 12.10 but just some setting (a package, etc.) that was set in one machine but not the other. Oh, I am not sure if this is related to nautilus, but the two machines have the same nautilus-related packages installed... Any help would be appreciated!
