  I created a database on a local SQL server that we use for development. I created the log and data files on a second hard drive (E:\MSSQL\DATA). I am using this database to do some speed tests so I created a lot of data (7 Million rows). I started running some pretty intensive queries and to get some test data I ran an update statement that updated all 7 million rows and now it has taken up all of the space on my C:\, which I don't understand since I put the data files on the E:\. Is there some files on the C:\ that would be growing based on me running queries on this other database, if so how do I stop it? I am doing with this database but I need to get my C:\ back in order. The database file group was PRIMARY, is this relevant?

• How should i setup my PC partition?

  I want to clear out my PC and setup the partitions. Right now i have it as XP, Win-7, Vista, XP/Test/Spare I notice my PC is pretty good at virtualization, at least virtualizing linux. I also rarely boot out of my primary XP although i do find myself deving on windows 7 once in a while. So i figure i can have it as XP, Windows 7, data partition then... what? i still have one more slot. There may be a more useful way to do this so what do you guys think? My bro has 2gb partition that is used to restore the OS which can be ran during the bootup process. However i dont think i can do that with mine. So, what are you thoughts?

• Using an Apt Repository for Paid Software Updates

  I'm trying to determine a way to distribute software updates for a hosted/on-site web application that may have weekly and/or monthly updates. I don't want the customers who use the on-site product to have to worry about updating it manually I just want it to download and install automatically ala Google Chrome. I'm planning on providing an OVF file with Ubuntu and the software installed and configured. My first thought on how to distributed software is to create six Apt repositories/channels (not sure which would be better at this point) that will be accessed through SSH using keys so if a customer doesn't renew their subscription we can disable their account: Beta - Used internally on test data to check the package for major defects. Internal - Used internally on live data to check the package for defects (dog fooding stage). External 1 - Deployed to 1% of our user base (randomly selected) to check for defects. External 9 - Deployed to 9% of our user base (ramdonly selected) to check for defects. External 90 - Deployed to the remaining 90% of users. Hosted - Deployed to the hosted environment. It will take a sign off at each stage to move into the next repository in case problems are reported. My questions to the community are: Has anyone tried something like this before? Can anyone see a downside to this type of a procedure? Is there a better way?

• Long file path returning 404 for "hello.htm"

  Hello, I have a long file path that works on my server, but a simliar path returns a 404 error when it is on my clients (IIS6) server (http://ddmat.com/). Here's the functioning file path on my server: http://www.forgefx.com/projects/ddmat/install/Application Files/McCurdys_1_0_0_0/Content/FBX/CCAE1B33/Roof-sectionB-02.fbm/hello.htm My guesses: Maybe the file path is too long? Maybe the ".fbm" in the directory path is invalid? Sorry for the vauge problem description. Please let me know what additional info I can provide that'd be helpful. • Postfix Not Sending Email to Some Addresses?

  I'm using Jetpack on Wordpress, and it wasn't working. I was getting the following error: Diagnostic-Code: X-Postfix; unknown user: "jake" --60FD1138CAD.1354039466/example.com Content-Description: Undelivered Message (example.com substituted for our domain) We set up a test mail function, and that wasn't sending either. We changed the email to an outside email and it worked. Any thoughts why it won't send to an email that is at the same domain? Or why it sends to some emails but not others?   Occasionally I am surprised to open up my toolbox and find a great tool that I've had for years and never noticed.  The other day I had just such an experience with Windows Server 2008.  A co-worker of mine was squinting to read to screenshots that he had taken using the "Print Screen, paste" method in WordPad and asked me if there was a better tool available at a reasonable cost.  My first instinct was to take a look at CamStudio for him, but I also knew that he had an immediate need to take some more screenshots, so I decided to check and see if the Snipping Tool found in Windows 7 is also available in Windows Server 2008.  I clicked the Start button and typed “snip” into the search bar and while the Snipping Tool did not come up, a Control Panel item labeled “Record steps to reproduce a problem” did. The application behind the Control Panel entry was “Problem Steps Recorder” (PSR.exe) and I have confirmed that it is available in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 but have not checked other platforms.  It presents a pretty minimal and intuitive interface in providing a “Start Record”, “Stop Record”, and “Add Comment” button.  The “Start Record” button shockingly starts recording and, sure enough, the “Stop Record” button stops recording.  The “Add Comment” button prompts for a comment and for you to highlight the area of the screen to which your comment is related.  Once you’re done recording, the tool outputs an MHT file packaged in a ZIP archive.  This file contains a series of screen shots depicting the user’s interactions and giving timestamps and descriptive text (such as “User left click on “Test” in “My Page – Windows Internet Explorer”) as well as the comments they made along the way and some diagnostics about the applications captured. The Problem Steps Recorder looks like a simple solution to the most common of my needs for documentation that can turn “I can’t understand how to make it do what you’re reporting” to “Oh, I see what you’re talking about and will fix it right away”.  I you’re like me and haven’t yet discovered this tool give it a whirl and see for yourself.

• Stop Zabbix notification for nodes under zabbix-proxy when proxy service is down

  I have a zabbix-proxy and 12 nodes in that proxy. Right now whenever proxy service goes down. It send out of reach mail for all the 12 nodes. I want to send mail only for the zabbix proxy not for the nodes under that proxy Updated: Now I am trying to have a single trigger in which I want to check both the conditions like 1-check zabbix-host is not accessble from past x minutes. 2-check the host is not giving any data to the proxy(Host is down). Not the trigger should start shouting onle when we have condition in which proxy is running and node is down. I tried the below but its not working for me. Can some please help me out in this ({ip-10-4-1-17.ec2.internal:agent.ping.nodata(2m)}=1) & ({ip-10-4-1- 17.ec2.internal:zabbix[proxy,zabbixproxy.dev-test.com,lastaccess].fu??zzytime(120)}=1)

I am confused about the function of the I2C_SLAVE ioctl.From what i read,this ioctl is used to set the slave address. But we pass the slave address again when performing read/write using ioctl I2C_RDWR via addr in the structure i2c_msg. So then,what is the function of I2C_SLAVE command?Do i need to call it every time i perform a read or write operation? Thank you in advance.

• Questions, Knowledge Checks and Assessments

  Questions should be used to reinforce concepts throughout the title. You have the option to include questions in the course, in assessments, in Knowledge Checks, or in any combination. Questions are required for creating knowledge checks and assessments. It is important to remember that questions that are not in assessments are not tracked. Be sure to structure your outline so that questions are added to the appropriate assignable unit. I usually recommend that questions appear directly below their relative section. This serves two purposes. First, it helps ensure that the related content and question stay relative to one another. Secondly, it ensures that when the "link to subject" option is used it will relate back to the relative content. Knowledge checks are created using the questions that have been added to the related assignable unit. Use Knowledge Checks to give users an additional opportunity to review what they have learned. Knowledge Check allows users to check their own knowledge without being tracked or scored. Many users like having this self check option, especially if they know they are going to be tested later. Each assignable unit can have its own Knowledge Check. Assessments provide a way to measure knowledge or understanding of the course material. The results of each assessment are scored and tracked. Assessments are created using the questions that have been added to the relative assignable unit(s). Each assignable unit, including the Title AU, can have multiple assessments. Consider how your knowledge paths will be structured when planning your assessments. For instance, you can create a multiple-activity knowledge path, with multiple assessments from the same title or assignable unit. Also remember, in Manager an assessment can be either a pre or post assessment. Pre-assessments allow the student to discover what is already known in a specific topic or subject and important if the personal course feature is being used. Post-assessments allow you test the student knowledge or understanding after completing the material.

• Can't copy files with 'additional permissions' to ext4 drive -- files that have @ after permissions,

  I am copying files from Snow Leopard to a mounted ext4 share via Samba, that's on a Fedora machine. Some files cannot be copied, and give this error: The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have permission to access some of the items. I've noticed that the files that can't be copied have an @ at the end of their permissions whien I do 'ls -l' in the command line. For example, I can copy the second file but not the first: -rwxrwxrwx@ 1 miles staff 1448 May 14 22:55 test.txt -rw-r--r-- 1 miles staff 136 Apr 5 17:06 image.psd.zip From what I've found, the @ means the file has 'additional properties'. Does anyone know how I can resolve this issue so I can copy the files to the fileshare?? Thanks!

  I have tomcat server behind the apache. I am using mod_ssl and reverse proxy to the tomcat. All are running at default ports. The full error is as follow. ack Proxy Error The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server. The proxy server could not handle the request POST /pages/doeditpage.action. Reason: Error reading from remote server If I clean the browser cache the error goes away and comes back after few attempts. I test the same on Chrome/Firefox/IE on Windows platform. Wondering it works perfectly on Linux based Chrome/Firefox. I googled a lot there are few answers at stack overflow but I am not able to find my answer. Is this a server side problem? because so many browsers cant be wrong at same time on Windows.

  How can I automatically start a program on Amazon's EC2 Windows 2008 web servers? For example, if I wanted to test the "Digg effect" on a web page of mine, how could I open 100 windows 2008 servers at once, each loading one (or two?) instances of the firefox web browser? I have placed a sample batch file in the windows startup folder that echos the time it was called, but it is only started when I actually login remotely via the remote desktop protocol. I don't want to have to login to 100 servers to get my software to run :P What can I do? I am using this Windows 2008 Datacenter, Amazon-supplied AMI specifically: ami-a2698bcb

  Hi I'm using Powershell to query a remote computer in a domain for a wmi object, eg: "gwmi -computer test -class win32_bios". I get this error message: Value does not fall within the expected range Executing the query local under the same user works fine. It seems to happen on both windows 2003 and also 2008 systems. The user that runs the shell has admin rights on the local and remote server. I checked wmi and dcom permissions as far as I know how to do this, they seem to be the same on a server where it works, and another where it does not. I think it is not a network issue, all ports are open that are needed, and it also happens within the same subnet. When sniffing the traffic we see the following errors: RPC: c/o Alter Cont Resp: Call=0x2 Assoc Grp=0x4E4E Xmit=0x16D0 Recv=0x16D0 Warning: GssAPIMechanism is not found, either caused by not reassembled, conversation off or filtering. And an errormessage from Kerberos: Kerberos: KRB_ERROR - KDC_ERR_BADOPTION (13) The option code in the packet is 0x40830000 Any idea what I should look into?

• very long boot up with Ubuntu 10.04.4

  I installed Ubuntu 10.04.3 on Atom. Then I do the update and upgrade with: #apt-get update #apt-get upgrade #apt-get dist-upgrade The system can boot up now but in almost 2 minutes. After power on and system test, it will stop at "Verifying DMI pool data" for 10 seconds before the GRUB menu comes up. Then after the choosing of one item, to the start up of OS there is 100 seconds of black screen. The start up after that is normal and the operations in the system is also normal. I am concerned with if it is of hardware problem, or just some problem with the kernel. Also I want to know after "Verifying DMI pool data" what is done? And after we choose an item in GRUB menu, what does the system do? And where can I see the procedure of the whole boot up? • Requiring SSH-key Login Via PAM From Specific IP Ranges

  I need to be able to access my server (Ubuntu 8.04 LTS) from remote sites, but I'd like to worry a bit less about password complexity. Thus, I'd like to require that SSH keys be used for login instead of name/password. However, I still have a lot to learn about security, and having already badly broken a test box when I was trying to set this up, I'm acutely aware of the chance of screwing myself while trying to accomplish this. So I have a second goal: I'd like to require that certain IP ranges (e.g. 10.0.0.0/8) may log in with name/password, but everyone else must use an SSH key to log in. How can I satisfy both of these goals? There already exists a very similar question here, but I can't quite figure out how to get to what I want from that information. Current tactic: reading through the PAM documentation (pam_access looks promising) and looking at /etc/ssh/sshd_config.

• scalability with nginx, passenger, ruby on rails setup

  Hey guys I had a question regarding scalability for my RoR application. We have been optimizing our application over the last few days and after running blitz.io, notice that our application times out after maybe 1000 hits in 30 seconds we experienced massive timeouts. In the 1 minute test apparently 74% of users would have timed out. Look at the performance of my website: http://blitz.io/report/1c8eb2f395a5eadeabd62fd831ada9e5 Not saying that our website will in any way experience this now, but I wish to design the infrastructure to handle this. What is normally done in this situation? Currently we have one web server and one database server. Would load balancing be the route to go?

• IP addresses for Windows Azure servers seem to be from the US, when the servers are supposed to be located in Europe

  I have a couple of test servers on Windows Azure. One is in the North Europe location and the other is in West Europe. I yet to get around to testing which location offers better connection speeds from where I am (London, UK). The Northern Europe Azure datacentre is apparently in Ireland and the West Europe datacentre is in the Netherlands, which is weird in itself I think. But what I am confused about are the IP addresses are both 168.63.xxx.xxx. GeoIP lookup says that they are both located in the US, and traceroute from London to the addresses get to the US before failing to respond pings. What's going on?

• Bluehost: 1 Minute Delays?

  On Bluehost shared hosting (Apache 2.2 + FastCGI + APC), I have the problem that some requests take almost exactly one minute to respond. Yet time spent in PHP is only two seconds. To demonstrate the issue, I created a temporary test page. Sample output: When asking Bluehost support about the issue, I got the following reply: “the fastcgi process don't stay running they will only stay running for a certan period which would explain the timeouts you are seeing it traffic would spawn new ones. [...]” I understand that spawning new FastCGI processes takes some time. But almost exactly one minute? That must be some timeout. But which timeout may that be? What I want in the end: No request should take longer than five seconds to respond, even if it fails. When I asked Bluehost support to set the Apache TimeOut directive accordingly, they told me: “we do not modify the Apache Config File even on a virtual host level.”

• LDAP over SSL/TLS working for everything but login on Ubuntu

  I have gotten OpenLDAP with SSL working on a test box with a signed certificate. I can use an LDAP tool on a Windows box to view the LDAP over SSL (port 636). But when I run dpkg-reconfigure ldap-auth-config to setup my local login to use ldaps, my login under a username in the directory doesn't work. If I change the config to use just plain ldap (port 389) it works just fine (I can login under a username in the directory). When its setup for ldaps I get Auth.log shows: Sep 5 13:48:27 boromir sshd[13453]: pam_ldap: ldap_simple_bind Can't contact LDAP server Sep 5 13:48:27 boromir sshd[13453]: pam_ldap: reconnecting to LDAP server... • Prevent apache http server changing response code

  Hi all, I have a servlet providing a REST based service running on tomcat which I am accessing through Apache Http Server v2.2. My problem is that a response code for one for the service methods is being changed when it passes through http server. I have a curl script which I use to test the service. It is supposed to return a 204 No content response which it does when I hit the servlet directly. When I hit Apache with the script the response gets changed to a 200 Ok. Can anyone with experience of configuring Apache advise me how to fix this? Thanks, Brad.
