    I would like to develop an information system for a school which will provide a single integrated source of information about any student who studies there. A full student profile will be built up year-by-year, as each student progresses through a degree program from their first point of contact with the university. Which type of JQuery should I use ? Which aspect or feature of it would be useful ? Also, which layer of the three-tier architecture does JQuery belong to ? It would be great if you could help me. Thank you.

This activity has a static layout(for testing purposes), but only thing I see is black(I even set the text color to white to check it out).   • Eclipse will not show 2.3 emulator for android compatibility package code

    I am trying to learn fragments to modernize an app I originally wrote for android 1.5 that uses Date Picker Dialog. I am using the android-support-v4 library. When I run the code in Eclipse Juno 20120614-1722 it only shows android 4.0 emulators and there is a red X beside my Samsung phone running 2.3.5. When I push the package to phone, the code runs.     I'm trying to create a three select dropdowns that represent a persons birthday. I'm taking into consideration that there are 4 months with 30 days, 7 with 31 ,and 1 with 28 or 29 depending if it's a leap year or not. I would like the days dropdown to show the number of days depending on which month is chosen in the month dropdown. Here's what I have now.   • Grabbing all <a> tags in a specific div and displaying them

    So I'v got a small problem with my portfolio site (you can see it at here) When you click on a portfolio piece, a top section opens up to reveal the details (Title, year, role, description) as well as the photos. I'v been able to get each project to replace all the text data, but I can't seem to get the images to load into the thumbnails. I have been able to get the last image i'm looking for in all of the images on the site, but not display each photo for each project. In the end my problem is adding the "tempProduct" object to the mutable array dataArray so that I can customize the table cells. Using the json framework im parsing out some json which returns an array of NSDictionary objects. Stepping through that my dictionary objects look good, I populate my custom object with properties for all my fields which goes through fine, and the values look right. However I cant add this to the array, I've tried several different implementations doesn't work. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. In some instances doing a po tempProduct prints the description and sometimes it does not. same with right clicking on the variable and choosing print description.   • Selecting Date Range on a PHP form and displaying results from MySQL database

    This may be something simple but I cant understand why this wouldn't work.. I have a php form where you can select a date range from drop downs. I've given the field names day, month year, and day1, month1, year1. When clicking submit it takes you to a second php form.   • How best to manage my growing data in Excel?

    This isn't a question about formulas or features in Excel. I'm debating the correct/best way to manage the growing amount of data 'I have to' manage in Excel (I produce PIVOT tables/reports for my management). DATA: I record the number of publications we order: cost, date ordered, start and end of subscription, who requested it, when they ordered it, when I ordered it, will it be cancelled next year, etc, etc, etc. DILEMMA: Obviously we re-order a lot of the same publications, so depending on how I manage the data I could be duplicating all over the place. OPTION 1: So, do I use ROWs = publication name in Row 1 and all the related columns for each financial year are copied and pasted after each financial year ready for the new FY information? This will lead to me going to column ZZ. OPTION 2: Or, do I use COLUMNs = each row has only one FY information for each publication and if we re-order or cancel a publication I re-type the publication name in a row below and fill in appropriate columns? This will lead to a long list of publications down to row 10000, and potential for misspelling of repeat ordered publication names. IDEAS: What's the best way - thinking in terms of pivot table best practice, being able to sum or count easy, report formatting, etc. Any best practices much appreciated.

  • Fast extraction of a time range from syslog logfile?

    I've got a logfile in the standard syslog format. It looks like this, except with hundreds of lines per second: Jan 11 07:48:46 blahblahblah... Jan 11 07:49:00 blahblahblah... Jan 11 07:50:13 blahblahblah... Jan 11 07:51:22 blahblahblah... Jan 11 07:58:04 blahblahblah... It doesn't roll at exactly midnight, but it'll never have more than two days in it. I often have to extract a timeslice from this file. I'd like to write a general-purpose script for this, that I can call like: $ timegrep 22:30-02:00 /logs/something.log ...and have it pull out the lines from 22:30, onward across the midnight boundary, until 2am the next day. There are a few caveats: I don't want to have to bother typing the date(s) on the command line, just the times. The program should be smart enough to figure them out. The log date format doesn't include the year, so it should guess based on the current year, but nonetheless do the right thing around New Year's Day. I want it to be fast -- it should use the fact that the lines are in order to seek around in the file and use a binary search. Before I spend a bunch of time writing this, does it already exist?

  • Is it okay to use an administrator account for everyday use if UAC is on?

    Since I switched to Windows 7 about 3 years ago, and now using Windows 8.1, I have become familiar with the concept of User Account Control and used my PC the following way: a standard account which I use for every day work and the built-in Administrator account activated and used only to elevate processes when they request so, or to ”Run as administrator” applications when I need to. However, recently after reading more about User Account Control, I started wondering if my way of working is good? Or should I use an administrator account for every day work, since an administrator account is not elevated until requested by apps, or until I request so via the ”Run as administrator” option? I am asking this because I read somewhere that the built-in Administrator account is a true administrator, by which I mean UAC doesn't pop up when logged in within it, and I am scared of not having problems when potential malicious software come into scene. I have to mention that I do not use it on a daily basis, just when I need to elevate some apps. I barely log in into it 10 times a year... So, how's better? Thanks for your answers! And Happy New Year, of course! P.S. I asked this a year ago (:P) and I think I should reiterate it: is an administrator account as safe these days as a standard account coupled with the built-in Administrator account when needed?

  • SQL SERVER – SOS_SCHEDULER_YIELD – Wait Type – Day 8 of 28

    This is a very interesting wait type and quite often seen as one of the top wait types. Let us discuss this today. From Book On-Line: Occurs when a task voluntarily yields the scheduler for other tasks to execute. During this wait the task is waiting for its quantum to be renewed. SOS_SCHEDULER_YIELD Explanation: SQL Server has multiple threads, and the basic working methodology for SQL Server is that SQL Server does not let any “runnable” thread to starve. Now let us assume SQL Server OS is very busy running threads on all the scheduler. There are always new threads coming up which are ready to run (in other words, runnable). Thread management of the SQL Server is decided by SQL Server and not the operating system. SQL Server runs on non-preemptive mode most of the time, meaning the threads are co-operative and can let other threads to run from time to time by yielding itself. When any thread yields itself for another thread, it creates this wait. If there are more threads, it clearly indicates that the CPU is under pressure. You can fun the following DMV to see how many runnable task counts there are in your system. SELECT scheduler_id, current_tasks_count, runnable_tasks_count, work_queue_count, pending_disk_io_count FROM sys.dm_os_schedulers WHERE scheduler_id < 255 GO If you notice a two-digit number in runnable_tasks_count continuously for long time (not once in a while), you will know that there is CPU pressure. The two-digit number is usually considered as a bad thing; you can read the description of the above DMV over here. Additionally, there are several other counters (%Processor Time and other processor related counters), through which you can refer to so you can validate CPU pressure along with the method explained above. Reducing SOS_SCHEDULER_YIELD wait: This is the trickiest part of this procedure. As discussed, this particular wait type relates to CPU pressure. Increasing more CPU is the solution in simple terms; however, it is not easy to implement this solution. There are other things that you can consider when this wait type is very high. Here is the query where you can find the most expensive query related to CPU from the cache Note: The query that used lots of resources but is not cached will not be caught here. SELECT SUBSTRING(qt.TEXT, (qs.statement_start_offset/2)+1, ((CASE qs.statement_end_offset WHEN -1 THEN DATALENGTH(qt.TEXT) ELSE qs.statement_end_offset END - qs.statement_start_offset)/2)+1), qs.execution_count, qs.total_logical_reads, qs.last_logical_reads, qs.total_logical_writes, qs.last_logical_writes, qs.total_worker_time, qs.last_worker_time, qs.total_elapsed_time/1000000 total_elapsed_time_in_S, qs.last_elapsed_time/1000000 last_elapsed_time_in_S, qs.last_execution_time, qp.query_plan FROM sys.dm_exec_query_stats qs CROSS APPLY sys.dm_exec_sql_text(qs.sql_handle) qt CROSS APPLY sys.dm_exec_query_plan(qs.plan_handle) qp ORDER BY qs.total_worker_time DESC -- CPU time You can find the most expensive queries that are utilizing lots of CPU (from the cache) and you can tune them accordingly. Moreover, you can find the longest running query and attempt to tune them if there is any processor offending code. Additionally, pay attention to total_worker_time because if that is also consistently higher, then  the CPU under too much pressure. You can also check perfmon counters of compilations as they tend to use good amount of CPU. Index rebuild is also a CPU intensive process but we should consider that main cause for this query because that is indeed needed on high transactions OLTP system utilized to reduce fragmentations. I saw with NHProf the sql generating for a select and here's the problem it's generating all the sql correctly but for week datepart.. this is part of the SQL generated: ....Datepart(day, MyDate) ... ....Datepart(month, MyDate) ... ....Datepart(year, MyDate) ... ....Datepart(hour, MyDate) ... ....Datepart(minute, MyDate) ... ....Datepart(second, MyDate) ... ....Datepart(this_.week, MyDate) ... where this_ is the alias for the table that nhibernate uses. so it's treating the week keyword for the datepart stuff as a column or something like that.
