    Hallo, I'm trying to deploy some classroom control software (NetSupport School) to some of the machines on our network but for some reason when you log off and restart the computer any user who logs on ends up re-installing the software while logging on. I spent two hours on the phone to the complanys support and we eventually nailed it down to most likely a setting in Active Directory or in the login.bat (drive mapping and settings) but we can't find anything in those that would say "run this installer at logon". Is there anywhere else on the system that would set something like this? Server 2003/XP. Ta!

    I have a debian server and I'm hosting music for an internet radio station. I have trouble with file names and paths because a lot of files got an invalid encoding, for example: ./music/Bändname - Some Title - additional Info/B?ndname - 07 - This Title Is Cörtain, The EncÃ?ding Not.mp3 Ideally, I would like to remove everything that is not letters A-Z/a-z or numbers 0-9 or dash -/underscore _... The result should look like something like that: ./music/Bndname-SomeTitle-additionalInfo/Bndname-07-ThisTitleIsCrtain,TheEnc?dingNot.mp3 How to achieve this for a batch of a lot of files and directories? I've seen this similar question: bulk rename (or correctly display) files with special characters But this only fixes the encoding, I would prefer a more strict approach as described above.

  • What's the behaviour when opening a group of files at once?

    I selected a group of .odt files, right-clicked the first one and selected open. I would have thought they would open in alphabetical order, but as the second screenshot shows, they're not - the one with "2014-11-13" opens before "2013-10-23". And then when I select the whole group and press Enter, they open in order - and sometimes they don't. What's the behaviour when you right-click and open for a batch of files? Does it start with the one you selected and pick random files in the list to open next?

  • Launching multiple applications with a single command/script/shortcut

    I realized a few days ago that every time I sit down at work, I do a few things after unlocking my computer. First, I open up Firefox, then I open up Chrome, then I log in to Digsby. I realized I could probably save repeating this daily by writing a small batch script to open up Firefox and Chrome , but I couldn't figure out how to make it work.. and since the whole effort is to save time I don't want to bash my head around in the windows command prompt to do it. I also tired this in powershell but ran in to a bunch of security nonsense. Is there a way to do this that I am missing? Bonus points if somebody has figured out how to manipulate Digsby via COM , scripting, or python =)

  • Is there a way to automatically keep Chrome/Ask Tool Bar from installing?

    So of lately, I've had to warn my users to watch out for unwanted programs that are coming in with Adobe Flash and Java updates. Adobe seems to be pushing Google's Chrome and Java with the Ask.com Toolbar. I admit that it could be much worse because both instance simply require an uncheck during some point of the update process, but on a large scale, prevention is better than confrontation. Any suggestions?

    I am trying to create a scheduled task to convert all my .vsd files to pdf so all of our devices can read them (linux, mac, smartphones, etc..) and I would prefer not paying for something that can be done with Visio + PDFcreator. The approach of using openoffice doesn't work with .vsd files since it's not a supported format ( Method/tools for batch-converting Microsoft Word files into PDF?) What I've currently is this: 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Visio11\VISIO.EXE' /pt "Z:\Archive\Files.vsd",-PPDFCREATORPRINTER /nologo That is able to open automatically the document I want and to prepare it to be printed, the only missing part is that it requires me to confirm on the printing dialog. There's some information here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314392 but it doesn't explain abotu non interactive printing.

Since I am not able to migrate it myself and would like an answer as soon as possible I'm reposting it here instead: I am to upgrade a printer driver remotely and has prepared a batch file for this. The only problem is that when I'm installing the drivers I get a popup in which I need to press "Continue Anyway" on. Is there a way to automatically accept this question?     I want to remotely control my home desktop PC (running Windows 7 Professional), mainly to perform the following tasks: Downloading email attachments, and sending emails with attachments Running UI-less programs whose only inputs are files and whose only outputs are files So far, the only solution I have found is to use Remote Desktop to connect to my PC, but this is very slow and inefficient, especially when there is no fast Internet connection available other than my cell phone's. I would like to be able to send batch commands to my PC, like: Download an email attachment Use it as input for an UI-less program Save the program's output to a file Send that file to myself as an email attachment Is this possible? How could I do it?

  • Make the recycle bin of the SSD on a RAID0 drive?

    I don't know about you folks, but I hate the idea of junk sitting on my tiny 30GB SSD. Any way to designate another drive to be the host of the Recycle Bin for items formerly on the SSD? Basically, I need to know how to make a lower-priority drive receive the recycled materials from the 'main' drive, which happens to be short on space. The best thing I can think of is a batch file that a) syncs 'recycle' to another drive; and b) empties the recycle bin. ... but that's too much work for me.

    I need to find the flavor of Windows that is running using a batch file that will run on anything from Windows NT to Windows 7. I'm using a method based on this page with some minor changes. Systeminfo gives the flavor of Windows that is running. Is there any authoritative list of names that can be returned? If so where would I find the list?   • Runas command for user without password

    I want to use the runas command in CMD and from Batch files to gain elevated permissions, but I don't have an admin password on my PC because it's my home computer and I'm the only user. Every time I try to use the runas command it asks me for a password, then tells me that blank passwords are not permitted, is there any way round this? I know I can just right click and select run as administrator, but I would much rather have a command that can do it as that is not always an option, and it's just a bit of a pain. I could just be making some kind of basic mistake as I'm not hugely experienced with command prompt, but I'm not completely clueless.

    I work for a company that uses Windows 7 for end user computing. The Windows 7 computers are updated via a WSUS installation, and access to Microsoft Update is blocked. We have a problem with a number of websites, who's certificates appears to be invalid, though they are perfectly ok. The problem is, that Windows 7 apparently does an on-demand update of root certificates through Windows Update, rather than rolling out a monthly update, as with Windows XP. Now that Windows Update is blocked, how should root certificates be updated? It appears that WSUS is not handling this feature. Thanks in advance.

  • Open Office: How to disable image link updates

    I'm writing a user manual to a card game and there is a looot of linked images. Open Office is working so slow because every time I flip to a page with linked images it starts to update them. Is it possible to tell Open Office to NOT update the links until I tell it to do so? I would like it to display the same snapshot it showed the last time I initiated link update.     I regularly work on different projects, using different software. For project 1 I need to open for ex : Filezilla, Gedit and Nautilus (set to a specific folder) For project 2 I need to open foz ex : Gimp, Nautilus (set to another specific folder) etc. What I would like is a kind of sessions manager, where I could create entries "project 1", "project 2", etc. And with one click or command, open all the softwares I need. Perhaps there's an easy way to write a batch file for this? Any idea is welcome :)

    Hi, I'm having space issues on my Vista machine and need to figure out what's taking up so much space. I would like to write a simple batch file that returns all folders under C: and the size of each folder. The dir command doesn't appear to return folder size. Unfortunately we don't have admin rights and can't install a third party application and we have other users in our group that also need this information. Thanks...
