  • Transfer used ram to swap and free more physical ram

    - by AbuOmar
I have a vps with 256m physical ram and 512m swap space, I am trying to use a software that need more than 256m and less than 512m ram, so it uses swap. The problem is at some moment of the installation, the installation process checks the available physical ram, it's full (some swap is used), so it pauses the installation and tills that it must be some more ram to continue the installation.. I see that I need to move some of used physical ram to swap while the process is running.. Is there anyway I can do that? or any other solution! For sorry I am using openvz vps, and the vm.swappiness option can't be modified as a solution.

  • How to restrict Apache Location directive to cetain sub-domain?

    - by ohho
On our server www.example.com, we use the <Location> directive to proxy traffic to a back-end server: <Location /app1> ProxyPass http://192.168.1.20 </Location> Then we added a sub-domain uat.example.com which points to the same IP address of www.example.com. We want to use it as a proxy for client to test an app being developed. Hopefully, the client can access via: http:/uat.example.com/app2_uat Now if we add a Location: <Location /app2_uat> ProxyPass http://192.168.1.30 </Location> The client can access both: http:/www.example.com/app2_uat http:/uat.example.com/app2_uat How can I restrict Location such that only: http:/uat.example.com/app2_uat is accessible? (i.e. http:/www.example.com/app2_uat should not be accessible.)

  • Cent OS ifcfg configuration for ranges of IP's with different netmask

    - by Aaron Schlegel
I have 1 set of 30 public IP's with a netmask of 255.255.255.0 and another set of 30 IP's with a netmask of 255.255.255.128. Both sets of IP's also have different gateways. How can I virtually assign the IP's to the machine? I have tried creating ifcfg-eth0:0 ifcfg-eth0:1 ifcfg-eth0:X ect for each IP. Below is my ifcfg file with. I have this for each IP with the correct gateway IP and netmask for each of my 60 IP's. If I do ip addr show it does show all of the 60 addresses with the correct broadcast IP and netmask. However I can only use 30 of my IP's that are from the same netmask. Am I doing this correctly? If the IP's show up with ip addr show does that mean I have correctly assigned them to the machine virtually? I want to check before I blame my hosting company for not routing the IP's correctly. DEVICE="eth0:1" BOOTPROTO="static" DNS1="**.**.**.**" DNS2="**.**.**.**" GATEWAY="2**.**.***.126" HOSTNAME="localhost.localdomain" HWADDR="0*:19:**:**:**:**" IPADDR="2**.*.**.**" IPV6INIT="no" MTU="1500" NETMASK="255.255.255.128" NM_CONTROLLED="yes" ONBOOT="yes" TYPE="Ethernet" Also is there a better way to do this? I have used ifcfg-eth0:0-range1 before to assign a range of IP's from the same netmask. Is it possible to do this with ranges with different netmask? Thanks!

  • HTTP through a proxy server is not allowed

    - by jidma
When I try to connect to my Tomcat server on http://<servername>:8080 it works fine, but from another ISP provided it gives the following error: HTTP through a proxy server is not allowed. Some ISP apparently don't allow http over the port 8080, as they think the client uses a proxy. I also have a httpd running on port 80 for my website. So in order to avoid the proxy error, I would like to make to following routing: If the user connects to http://<servername>, then the website is served via apache. If the user connects to http://<servername>/AppName, then the port is rerouted to 8080, without the client (or his ISP) knowing. Is that possible (using iptables or something else) ? Thank you

  • Effect of HOME on libreoffice to convert to pdf as non-root user

    - by user1032531
I installed libreoffice-headless and can convert documents when logged on as root. I then tried doing so as another user, and it didn't show an error, but didn't convert the file. I then found that if I get rid of the HOME=/tmp/ayb, it works with the other user. Doesn't HOME=/tmp/ayb just allow files to default to this directory if not specified? (Sorry, I tried to search "Linux HOME", but as you probably expect, received a bunch of non-relevant results). If not, what is the purpose of specifying HOME? Why does setting HOME prevent it from converting on non-root users? Note that /tmp and /tmp/ayb or both 0777. Thank you [root@desktop ~]# yum install libreoffice-headless [root@desktop ~]# yum install libreoffice-writer [root@desktop ~]# ls -l total 48 -rwxrwxrwx. 1 NotionCommotion NotionCommotion 48128 Jul 30 02:38 document_34.doc [root@desktop ~]# HOME=/tmp/ayb; /usr/bin/libreoffice --headless -convert-to pdf --outdir /tmp/ayb /tmp/ayb/document_34.doc convert /tmp/ayb/document_34.doc -> /tmp/ayb/document_34.pdf using writer_pdf_Export [root@desktop ~]# rm d*.pdf rm: remove regular file `document_34.pdf'? y [root@desktop ~]# /usr/bin/libreoffice --headless -convert-to pdf --outdir /tmp/ayb /tmp/ayb/document_34.doc convert /tmp/ayb/document_34.doc -> /tmp/ayb/document_34.pdf using writer_pdf_Export [root@desktop ~]# rm d*.pdf rm: remove regular file `document_34.pdf'? y [root@desktop ~]# su NotionCommotion sh-4.1$ HOME=/tmp/ayb; /usr/bin/libreoffice --headless -convert-to pdf --outdir /tmp/ayb /tmp/ayb/document_34.doc sh-4.1$ rm d*.pdf rm: cannot remove `d*.pdf': No such file or directory sh-4.1$ /usr/bin/libreoffice --headless -convert-to pdf --outdir /tmp/ayb /tmp/ayb/document_34.doc sh-4.1$ rm d*.pdf rm: cannot remove `d*.pdf': No such file or directory sh-4.1$ exit exit [root@desktop ~]# su NotionCommotion sh-4.1$ /usr/bin/libreoffice --headless -convert-to pdf --outdir /tmp/ayb /tmp/ayb/document_34.doc convert /tmp/ayb/document_34.doc -> /tmp/ayb/document_34.pdf using writer_pdf_Export sh-4.1$ rm d*.pdf sh-4.1$ HOME=/tmp/ayb; /usr/bin/libreoffice --headless -convert-to pdf --outdir /tmp/ayb /tmp/ayb/document_34.doc sh-4.1$ rm d*.pdf rm: cannot remove `d*.pdf': No such file or directory sh-4.1$ /usr/bin/libreoffice --headless -convert-to pdf --outdir /tmp/ayb /tmp/ayb/document_34.doc sh-4.1$ rm d*.pdf rm: cannot remove `d*.pdf': No such file or directory sh-4.1$

  • How to install OpenOffice 3.1 in Headless Mode?

    - by Geo
I need to setup OpenOffice in a linux box that will never have X installed. Every time I run the setup program of the OpenOffice installer it complains that the system does not have an X Terminal. I am using OOo_3.1.0_LinuxIntel_install_wJRE_en-US.tar. I have done this headless install for version 2.4, but we are having some performance issues and we will like to test the 3.1 version. The rpm -i *rpm does not work, since it is also looking for libgnome inside it. We are trying to install the system in a CenOS 5.1. Any ideas are welcome?

  • Testlink stop working when configuring it to use LDAP

    - by YuriAlbuquerque
I have a TestLink webservice running on a server, and OpenLDAP running on other server. There are no firewall problems between them (I managed to configure Redmine, on the same server as TestLink, to use LDAP authentication). But whenever I place the configuration for LDAP in TestLink, TestLink stops working. I have no clue on what is happening. This is where I define LDAP's settings on custom_config.inc.php: $tlCfg->authentication['method'] = 'LDAP'; $tlCfg->authentication['ldap_server'] = 'serverip'; $tlCfg->authentication['ldap_port'] = '389'; $tlCfg->authentication['ldap_version'] = '2'; $tlCfg->authentication['ldap_root_dn'] = 'dc=mycompany,dc=com,dc=br'; $tlCfg->ldap_organization'] = ''; $tlCfg->authentication['ldap_uid_field'] = 'uid'; $tlCfg->authentication['ldap_bind_dn'] = 'myuser'; //Not actual login name and password, for obvious reasons $tlCfg->authentication['ldap_bind_passwd'] = 'mypassword'; $tlCfg->authentication['ldap_tls'] = false; $tlCfg->user_self_signup = true; I'm certain that OpenLDAP is 2.X. My TestLink version is 1.9.3 What could I be doing wrong?

  • How to create a snapshot volume to a remote server using kvm?

    - by Purres
I want to backup a few virtual machines to a backup server. Here're the backup steps. suspend a virtual machine create a snapshot of the virtual machine using lvcreate -s resume a virtual machine dd if=/virtual_machine_path | lzop > /temp/backup.lzo rsync /temp/backup.lzo -e "ssh " 1.2.3.4:/backup_path/ However, the hypervisor server doesn't have enough hard disk space to create a snapshot in step 2. Is there a way to create a logical volume snapshot to a remote server?

  • "TCP Sweep" - What is it? How am I causing it?

    - by Stephen Melrose
Hi there, I've just had an email from my hosting company telling me I'm in violation of their Acceptable Use Policy. They forwarded me an email from another company complaining about something to do with a "TCP sweep of port 22". They included a snippet from their logs, 20:29:43 <MY_SERVER_IP> 0.0.0.0 [TCP-SWEEP] (total=325,dp=22,min=212.1.191.0,max=212.1.191.255,Mar21-20:26:34,Mar21-20:26:34) (USI-amsxaid01) Now, my server knowledge is limited at best, and I've absolutely no idea what this is or what could be causing it. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you

  • Windows 7 client can't connect to CentOS PPTP VPN

    - by Chris
Have a Macintosh (10.8.2) that connects just fine to a CentOS 6.0 virtual private server (OpenVZ, with PPP added by the host) via PPTP. A Windows 7 Home Premium client (virtualized in Sun's Virtual Box), on the same computer, using the same Ethernet connection, cannot connect to the Linux VPN server. I have iptables disabled (for testing) on the Linux box. I have the Windows firewall turned off. /var/log/messages looks like this, for a Windows connection: Oct 12 18:44:30 production pptpd[1880]: CTRL: Client 66.104.246.168 control connection started Oct 12 18:44:30 production pptpd[1880]: CTRL: Starting call (launching pppd, opening GRE) Oct 12 18:44:30 production pppd[1881]: Plugin /usr/lib/pptpd/pptpd-logwtmp.so loaded. I have two servers both network cards speed is 10Gbps The inbound bandwidth between two servers is 10Gbps , the outbound bandwidth internet bandwidth is 500Mpbs Both servers using public ip addresses in public and private network Both servers transfer and connection on nginx port , and the server B used for streaming media , like youtube stream videos I check the transfer speed using iperf utility From Server A to Server B # iperf -c 0.0.0.1 -p 8777 ------------------------------------------------------------ Client connecting to 0.0.0.1, TCP port 8777 TCP window size: 85.3 KByte (default) ------------------------------------------------------------ [ 3] local 0.0.0.0 port 38895 connected with 0.0.0.1 port 8777 [ ID] Interval Transfer Bandwidth [ 3] 0.0-10.8 sec 528 KBytes 399 Kbits/sec My Current Connections in Server B # netstat -an|grep ":8777"|awk '/tcp/ {print $6}'|sort -nr| uniq -c 2072 TIME_WAIT 28 SYN_RECV 1 LISTEN 189 LAST_ACK 139 FIN_WAIT2 373 FIN_WAIT1 3381 ESTABLISHED 34 CLOSING Server A Network Card Information Settings for eth0: Supported ports: [ TP ] Supported link modes: 100baseT/Full 1000baseT/Full 10000baseT/Full Supported pause frame use: No Supports auto-negotiation: Yes Advertised link modes: 10000baseT/Full Advertised pause frame use: No Advertised auto-negotiation: Yes Speed: 10000Mb/s Duplex: Full Port: Twisted Pair PHYAD: 0 Transceiver: external Auto-negotiation: on MDI-X: Unknown Supports Wake-on: d Wake-on: d Current message level: 0x00000007 (7) drv probe link Link detected: yes Server B Network Card Information Settings for eth2: Supported ports: [ FIBRE ] Supported link modes: 10000baseT/Full Supported pause frame use: No Supports auto-negotiation: No Advertised link modes: 10000baseT/Full Advertised pause frame use: No Advertised auto-negotiation: No Speed: 10000Mb/s Duplex: Full Port: Direct Attach Copper PHYAD: 0 Transceiver: external Auto-negotiation: off Supports Wake-on: d Wake-on: d Current message level: 0x00000007 (7) drv probe link Link detected: yes The problem is : as you can see from iperf utility, the transfer speed from server A to server B slow when i restart network service the connection will be ok , after 2 minutes , it's getting slow How could i troubleshoot slow speed issue and fix it in server B ? Notice : if there any other commands i should execute in servers for more information, so it might help resolve the problem , let me know in comments

  • Apache HTTPd - rotatelogs not working

    - by Mike C
I've edited my conf.d/ssl.conf file and changed the TransferLog directive from: TransferLog logs/ssl_access_log to TransferLog "|/usr/sbin/rotatelogs logs/ssl_access_log.%Y-%m-%d.log 60" (I am using 60 seconds for testing) Since that change and an httpd restart my original ssl_access_log is not updating and a new log was not generated. What am I missing? in my error log, I am receiving this message Could not open log file 'logs/ssl_access_log.2014-05-30.log' (No such file or directory) piped log program '/usr/sbin/rotatelogs logs/ssl_access_log.%Y-%m-%d.log 60' failed unexpectedly

  • Fsck stuck on "Clone Multiply-claimed blocks"

    - by user3436581
Update: I fixed the issue. But I don't see eth0 directory in /sys/class/net Any idea how to fix that? I could not bring up eth0 and I need it badly so that I can backup everything over the network since I'm working on VM console. This virtual machine sda1 is stuck. I've tried e2fsck and fsck and both gets stuck after "Clone multiply-claimed blocls? yes" I've waited for around 5 to 8 hours and it still the same. I could not mount the filesystem without fixing these errors. I'm doing this after un-mounting all filesystems in rescue mode.. Reboot does not help. Any suggestions? • How to bypass AllowTCPFowarding=no by installing own forwarder?

    - by Eric B.
In the man pages for sshd_config, for the AllowTCPForwarding option, it states: AllowTcpForwarding Specifies whether TCP forwarding is permitted. The default is “yes”. Note that disabling TCP forwarding does not improve security unless users are also denied shell access, as they can always install their own forwarders. How do I install my own forwarder? I have a remote server in which I disabled TCPForwarding a long while ago. I would like to "enable" it for myself only, by using my own forwarder, while keeping the forwarding closed to the other users. I've looked around, but cannot seem to find the right pkgs to accomplish this. Can anyone please elaborate? Thanks! Eric

  • Deploying new code live

    - by nicoX
What's the best practise to deploy new code on a live (e-commerce) site? For now I have stopped apache for +/- 10 seconds when renaming directory public_html_new to public_html and old to public_html_old. This creates a short down-time, before I start Apache again. The same question goes if using Git to pull the new repo to the live directory. Can I pull the repo while the site is active? And how about if I need to copy a DB as well? During the tar (backup purpose) compression of the live site I noticed that changes occurred in the media directory. That indicated to me that files keep on changing periodically. And if these changes can interfere if Apache is not stopped during deployment.

  • allowing sudo to delete certain files

    - by chandank
I would like to allow to delete certain files in /tmp directory to sudo users. I have added the Allow_Cmnd /usr/sbin/userdel for sudo users but this does not delete all /tmp files associated with the user. So how shall I tweak the sudoers to allow them to delete certain files in /tmp directory only. I googled a bit but learned that regex may be be application at this. I tried couple of tweaks but its not working for me. I would like the users to have ability to execute command such as find /tmp -uid 10002 | grep joeuser | xargs rm -rf

  • SSH asking for password for one user and not another

I have two users on the same machine and am attempting to set up SSH for user#2. SSH was still asking for a password for the second user so I copied the .rsa file from user#1 to user#2. although they have identical files and permissions and although no password is asked of user#1, SSH still asks for a password from user#2. What could cause two users on the same machine with identical .rsa files to have different responses from SSH?

  • Proper procedure - sftp access to www folder - To be able to upload files

    - by Jay
My www folder is root:root. What should it be? My site works perfectly but maybe I am doing something wrong. My nginx.conf says user is 'nginx'. Should I be changing the www onwership and group to that or something else? Mainly I want to be able to sftp into the www folder using FileZilla. Preferably only allow access to the www folder. I want to be able to upload the website files but I just don't know the proper procedure. I have tried changing owners and groups but I get worried some part of the stack will not like it. For example does nginx play along, and php? I thought about having a sftp group or even an sftp user. But I don't want to go down a path that should be avoided. What should I be doing with my setup?
