• Which data structure for List of objects + datagrid wiev

  Hi, I have to develop a code which will store a list of objects, as example below 101, value 11, value 12, value 13 ...etc 102, value 21, value 22, value 23 ...etc 103, value 31, value 32, value 33 ...etc 104, value 41, value 42, value 43 ...etc Now, the difficulty is, that first column is an identifier, and whole table should always be sorted by it. Easy access to each element is required. Additionally, list should be easily updated, and extended by adding element at the end as well as in front and still keep being sorted by first column. Finally, I would like to be able to display values of the above in datagridview. What is most important is a performance of the implementation, as rows will be updated many times per second, and datagridview should be able to display all changes immediately. I was thinking about creating class for the values, and then a Dictionary but encountered a problem with displaying values in gridview. What would be the most optimal way of implementing the code? • In what specific areas has F# proven more applicable than C#?

  Over the last few years F# has evolved into one of Microsoft's fully supported languages employing many ideas incubated in OCaml, ML and Haskell. Over the last several years C# has extended it's general purpose features by introducing more and more functional language features: LINQ (list comprehension), Lamdas, Closures, Anonymous Delegates and more... Given C#'s adoption of these functional features and F#'s taxonomy as an impure functional language (it allows YOU to access framework libraries or change shared state when a function is called if you want to) there is a strong similarity between the two languages although each has it's own polar opposite primary emphasis. I'm interested in any successful models employing these two languages in your production polyglot programs and also the areas within production software (web apps, client apps, server apps) you have written in F# in the past year or so that you would previously have written in C#. • What does the 'X' in .aspx, docx, xlsx, etc... represent?

  It's one of those things you just take for granted until one day someone asks you and you realize you can't answer it. Much like for years I never questioned the use of 1033 directories in Microsoft products for years until one day, someone asked me about it. Around the release of .NET and Office 2007, Microsoft added an x to basically all of their extensions and I frankly took it as representing XML, but that simply doesn't make sense with .aspx. So, I realize this is a very non technical question, but now that the question has been asked of me and my googling hasn't given me an answer, can anyone tell me with authority what the X represents? Is it extended? Xml? Or is there no meaning behind it?

• In WPF using a ListView is there an elegant way to auto resize items?

  I recently wrote, my first, WPF application that has a list of items that are polled from a web-serivce. The items are displayed/data-bound in a ListView via a GridView. A background thread periodically polls the web-serivce and updates the list. If, say, I had three items initially bound to the ListView that simply display a description and the three descriptions where something like: - ProjectA - ProjectB - ProjectC Later a new item is added with a description of 'AReallyReallyLongProjectName', I would end up with a list like: - ProjectA - ProjectB - ProjectC - AReallyR The GridViewColumn would not update it's width and would subsequently cut off any new items that extended the original width. I added this bit of code which forces the column to resize, but it just seems a little hacky. (Just seems weird to set a width just to set it back to nothing to force the resize) if(gridView != null) { foreach(var column in gridView.Columns) { if (double.IsNaN(column.Width) column.Width = column.ActualWidth; column.Width = double.NaN; } } Is there a better, more elegant solution, to accomplish this same thing?

  I'm developing an iPhone app that uses the Extended Audio File Services. I try to use ExtAudioFileRead to read the audio file, and store the data in an AudioBufferList structure. AudioBufferList is defined as: struct AudioBufferList { UInt32 mNumberBuffers; AudioBuffer mBuffers[1]; }; typedef struct AudioBufferList AudioBufferList; and AudioBuffer is defined as struct AudioBuffer { UInt32 mNumberChannels; UInt32 mDataByteSize; void* mData; }; typedef struct AudioBuffer AudioBuffer; I want to manipulate the mData but I wonder what does the void* mean. Why is it void*? How can I decide what data type is actually stored in mData?

• Extending Multiple models in Codeigniter 2

  How do you set up CI2 to allow extending of multiple models? I can only get it to extend one model (put in /application/core) named MY_Model (case sensitive). To choose what model to extend I am doing; in the model.. require_once APPPATH.'core/MY_Another_model.php'; class Test_model extends MY_Another_model { ... } I can't find where in the core system code where it states only to allow models that are being extended to be called MY_Model. Thank you for any and all help.

  As I see it most applications have a requirement for some form of validation and a number of fantastic free offerings are available (I.E., Fluent Validation, Validation Block, Spring, Castle Windsor, etc). My question is why does the .NET Framework not include any inbuilt validation libraries? I am aware the .NET Framework allows a developer the ability to build their own validation libraries/methods/etc. and anything provided as part of the .NET Framework would not always meet everyone’s needs. But surely something could have been included? ASP.NET has a minimal set of validators but these have not really been extended since .NET 2.0 was released.

• Design pattern for extending Android's activities?

  While programming on Android, I end up writing a parent activity which is extended by several others. A bit like ListActivity. My parent activity extends Activity. if I intend to use a Map or a List, I can't use my parent activity as superclass - the child activity can only extend one activity obviously. As such I end up writing my parent activities with the same logic for Activity, ListActivity, MapActivity and so forth. What am I looking for is some sort of trait functionality/design pattern which would help in this case. Any suggestions?

  I'm trying to read an Excel file (.xls, I think Excel 2003 compatible) via OleDB, but it fails to get the values for referenced fields.   I am creating a logger for an application. I am using a third party logger library. In which logger is implemented as singleton. I extended that logger class because I want to add some more static functions. In these static functions I internally use the instance (which is single) of Logger(which i inherited). I neither creates instance of MyLogger nor re-implemented the getInstance() method of super class. But I am still getting warnings like destructor of MyLogger can not be created as parent class (Loggger) destructor is not accessible. I want to know, I am I doing something wrong? Inheriting the singleton is wrong or should be avoided??

• New wxpython controls not displaying until resize

  I have created a custom control (based on a panel) in wxPython that provides a list of custom controls on panel within it. The user needs to be able to add rows at will and have those rows displayed. I'm having trouble getting the new controls to actually appear after they are added. I know they are present, because they appear after a resize of the frame, or if I add them before Show() is called on the frame. I've convinced myself it's something basic, but I can't find the mistake. The add function looks like this: def addRow(self, id, reference, page, title, note): newRow = NoteListRow(self.listPanel, id, reference, page, title, note) self.listSizer.Add(newRow, flag=wx.EXPAND | wx.LEFT) self.rows.append(newRow) if len(self.rows) == 1: self.highliteRow(newRow) self.Refresh() self.Update() return newRow I assume I'm missing something about how refresh and update are supposed to behave, so even a good extended reference on those would likely be helpful.

• .NET TreeView causes application to crash when trying to check Parent node

  I have a TreeView with check boxes, and when a user checks a child node, I want to go up the tree and check each parent. However, for some reason my application blows up whenever I touch the parent node. For the nodes in my tree, I've extended TreeNode to create my own objects with some data that I need to store in them, but I still reference them as TreeNodes when checking/unchecking. • Prevent mapping all public members of a class in Fluent NHibernate

  I have a class generated from a WSDL that has a bunch of public properties and a public event. I'm extending this class with my own and adding some properties to it. All of my own properties are declared virtual, but the base class properties are not virtual. I'm using Fluent NHibernate's ClassMap to map only the properties from my extended class. How do I prevent (Fluent)NHibernate from trying to persist all the base class's public members? • Cookies ignored on Apache/Magento installation

  I'm running a Magento based website store on Linux/Apache. In order that user logins are maintained, I've set my cookie lifetime to be close to two years. The cookies are sent out with the right times, I can see them in my browsers. When I visit the site from a previously logged-in browser after about a day, the user is logged out. I can still see the cookies, with their extended life, present in the browser. Where should I start looking to get to the bottom of this issue?

• Flickering when repainting a JPanel inside a JScrollPAne

  I'm having a problem with repainting a JPanel inside a JScrollPane. Basically, I'm just trying to 'wrap' my existing EditPanel (it originally extended JPanel) into a JScrollPane. It seems that the JPanel updates too often (mass flickering). How would I stop this from happening? I tried using the setIgnoreRepaint() but it didn't seem to do anything. Will this current implementation work or would I need to create another inner class to fine-tune the JPanel I'm using to display graphics?   I have been trying to read a file in "cp037" encoding scheme using JAVA. I able to read a file in basic encoding schemes like UTF-8, UTF16 etc...After a bit of research on the internet i came to know that we need charset.jar or international version of JRE be installed to support extended encoding schemes. Can anyone send me a link for international version of JRE6 or JDK6. or is there any better way that i could read a file in cp037 encoding scheme. P.S: cp037 is a character encoding scheme supported by IBM Mainframes. All i need is to display a file in windows, which is being generated on IBM Mainframes machine, using a java program. Say, I want to add a new method or I want to change an existing method, like: class C(A): class b(A.b): def print_hello(self): print "Inner Class: Hello world" b = property(b) Now if I create C's object as c = C(), and call c.b I get TypeError: 'property' object is not callable error. How would I get pass this and call print_hello of the extended inner class? Disclaimer: I dont want to change the code for A class.

• new image makes http request even though cached?

  I have a javascript slide show that creates the next slide dynamically and then moves it into view. Since the images are actually sprites, the src is transparent.png and the actual image is mapped via background:url(.. in css. Everytime (well, most of the time) the script creates a new Element, Firefox makes an http request for transparent.png. I have a far-future expires header, and Firefox is respecting all other files' expiries. Is there a way to avoid these unnecessary requests. Even though the server is returning 304 unmodified responses, it would be nice if Firefox would respect the expiries on dynamically created images. I suspect that if I injected a simple string instead of using new Element, this might solve the problem, but I use some methods on Prototypes extended Element object, so I would like to avoid a bunch of html strings in my js file. This is a nit-picky question, but I'm working on front-end optimization now, so I thought I would address it. Thanks.

• Weird landscape UITabBarController Application startup

  Hi there. My application is quite simple, but I have some problems when it starts. I setted in the Info.plist to be landscaped, but it seems to ignore the order. In fact, when the app is loading the Simulator is landscaped, but then it returns in portrait mode. This is the hierarchy of the views and controllers: MainViewController (extends UITabBarController just to override shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:) Three extended UITableViewControllers as tabs (also those have the shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation correctly setted up). If I kinda force the orientation of the device to Landscape with: [[UIDevice currentDevice] setOrientation: UIInterfaceOrientationLandscapeRight]; Then for an instant the Simulator flashes in portrait mode, and then it goes landscaped. The problem is that in this way, the auto-rotation animations gets started, which is something I cannot tollerate. I just want a fixed, landscaped application. Any clues? Am I missing something?

  I created an app to post to pages the user chooses. How can I direct the message to a page Wall on behalf of the user? From my tests the post is sent, but the page can't see it and the page is not notified either. I have OAuth extended Permissions of publish_stream, what else do I need to my post not being invisible? I will try to clarify the problem in details: 1- I send a post to a Facebook page that is not mine, I'm just a normal user, via application that ask for publish_stream, read_stream permissions. 2- I verify the page logging as admin but no notification is delivered and I can't see the post on my Wall. 3-If I log as the sender user I can see the post on page Wall, it looks like the post is private and just the sender user can see It. If I try to recover the post via Graph API using the same user it returns false. 4- Only the users who has the app installed can see the post on page wall.

The function has several parameters: link text And before using FFT it converts image to a special one: The Bandpass Filter uses a special algorithm to reduce edge artifacts (before the Fourier transform, the image is extended in size by attaching mirrored copies of image parts outside the original image, thus no jumps occur at the edges) Can you tell me more about this special transform? Actually tiling mirrored image. I am writing on C++ and wish to rewrite that part of the program on C++.

• Why is 'using' improving C# performances

  It seems that in most cases the C# compiler could call Dispose() automatically. Like most cases of the using pattern look like: public void SomeMethod() { ... using (var foo = new Foo()) { ... } // Foo isn't use after here (obviously). ... } Since foo isn't used (that's a very simple detection) and since its not provided as argument to another method (that's a supposition that applies to many use cases and can be extended), the compiler could automatically call Dispose() without the developper requiring to do it. This means that in most cases the using is pretty useless if the compiler does some smart job. IDisposable seem low level enough to me to be taken in account by a compiler. Now why isn't this done? Wouldn't that improve the performances (if the developpers are... dirty).
