  • changing ext4 journal data mode with remount?

    I'm tweaking ext4 file system for speed, one tweak at a time. First tweak is to change from "data=ordered" to "data=writeback". To test this, I execute "mount -n -o remount,data=ordered /" but I keep getting "mount: / not mounted already, or bad option". From lots of google'ing I found many questions about similar problems and one answer circa 2001+ext3 which says that you can't change the journal mode with remount. Is this limitation still current?

  • running csync2 in stand-alone server mode gives error

    I installed csync2 on two ubuntu node as documentation in http://oss.linbit.com/csync2/paper.pdf. when i use a one-shot command csync2 -xv every thing goes well. but when i try to run csync2 in stand-alone server mode i get error: Server error: Address already in use. i searched over net and no documentation found on this problem, even tracing code and grep in files didn't get any result of problem source. do you have any idea?

Presently, my work folder is setup as follows: (1)/work/ (2)/projects (3)/project_a (4)/final (which includes all final documents) (5)/contracts (5)/rfp_rfq (5)/change_orders (5)/communications (logs all emails, faxes, and meeting notes and minutes) (5)/financial (6)/paid (6)/unpaid (5)/reports (4)/old (include all documents that didn't make it into the project_a/final/ (3)/project_b (4) ... same as above ... (2)/references (3)/technical_references (3)/gov_regulations (3)/data_sources (3)/books (3)/topic_based (each area of my expertise has a folder with references in them) (2)/business_contacts (3)/contacts.xls (file contains all my contacts) (2)/banking (3)/banking.xls (contains a list of all paid and unpaid invoices as well as some cool stats) (3)/quicken (to do my taxes and yada yada) (4)/year (2)/education (courses I've taken (3)/webinars (3)/seminars (3)/online_courses (2)/publications (includes the publications I've made (3)/publication_id We're mostly 5 people working together part-time on this thing. Since this is a very structured approach, I find it really difficult to remember what I've done on previous projects and go back and forth easily. What are your suggestions on improving my processes? I'm open to closed and open source software (as long as the price isn't too high). I also want to implement a system where I can save most of the projects online to increase collaboration and efficiency and reduce bandwidth especially on document editing. Imagine emailing a document back and forth 5-10 times a day.

  • Combining two operators in Evil-mode Emacs

    In vim I've remapped > and < when in visual mode to >gv and <gv respectively, like so: vnoremap > >gv vnoremap < <gv Since my target for this question are folks experienced with emacs and not vim, what > and < do is indent/dedent visually selected text. What gv does is reselect the previously selected text. These maps cause > and < to indent/dedent and then reselect the previously selected text. I'm trying out emacs with evil-mode and I'd like to do the same, but I'm having some difficulty figuring out how, exactly, to accomplish the automatic reselection. It looks like I need to somehow call evil-shift-right and evil-visual-restore sequentially, but I don't know how to create a map that will do both, so I tried creating my own function which would call both sequentially and map that instead, but it didn't work, possibly due to the fact that both of them are defined, not as functions with defun but instead as operators with evil-define-operator. I tried creating my own operators: (evil-define-operator shift-left-reselect (beg end) (evil-shift-left beg end) (evil-visual-restore)) (evil-define-operator shift-right-reselect (beg end) (evil-shift-right beg end) (evil-visual-restore)) but that doesn't restore visual as expected. A stab in the dark gave me this: (evil-define-operator shift-left-reselect (beg end) (evil-shift-left beg end) ('evil-visual-restore)) (evil-define-operator shift-right-reselect (beg end) (evil-shift-right beg end) ('evil-visual-restore)) but that selects one additional line whenever it is supposed to reselect. For now I've been using the following, which only has the problem where it reselects an additional line in the < operator. (evil-define-operator shift-right-reselect (beg end) (evil-shift-right beg end) (evil-visual-make-selection beg end)) (evil-define-operator shift-left-reselect (beg end) (evil-shift-left beg end) (evil-visual-make-selection beg end)) and I've mapped them: (define-key evil-visual-state-map ">" 'shift-right-reselect) (define-key evil-visual-state-map "<" 'shift-left-reselect) any help / pointers / tips would be greatly appreciated.   • Windows crash report pop up 3 times when Windows XP starts after updating IE7 to IE8

    I just updated Internet Explorer 7 to IE 8. After the reboot, I have the Windows XP "send error report" dialog 3 times all with this info in it: AppName: update_kb24b8.exe AppVer: 7.0.6000.16981 ModName: urlmon.dll ModVer: 8.0.6001.18904 Offset: 0002df76 I uninstalled/updated all of my plugins and I still have this error 3 times each time I log in. Anyone know what is update_kb24b8.exe I didn't found a Microsoft KB with this number... BTW, after these 3 errors, everything s working well, including IE... Thanks!

  • 1 document pending in printer queue in System Tray that won't go away

    Edit: I didn't want to do it, but I restarted my computer - cleared the problem right away. Though if I were running a Windows 2003/2008 server, I would hate to have to restart the domain controller just to get rid of this irritating problem. If I run into this problem again, I'm going to try that remove printer/reinstall printer thing. Thanks for your help @Psychogeek. Points for your attempt. Running Windows 7, 32-bit Professional. My printer is an HP OfficeJet Wireless 8500. It's connected to my network wirelessly through TCP/IP as a standalone device. I was having some print problems awhile back and had to do some print spooler stuff as part of my troubleshooting (stopping the Print Spooler service, clearing the print spooler files from C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS and then restarting the service). I've finally narrowed it down to it being application specific, so that's that. However, as a leftover from all that troubleshooting, my printer icon is stuck in the tray - when I mouseover the icon, Windows says that there is 1 document(s) pending for my username. However, when I open up that printer's queue, there's nothing in there. I restarted the Printer Spooler service and also checked C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS if there's anything in there - nothing. I did a quick Google search and an answer from one of those "reps" at the Microsoft Socialnet site says for me to uninstall and reinstall the printer. The funny thing is, when I send print jobs, they print just fine - that 1 mystery document stuck in queue isn't stopping anything from happening. Short of having to do that, are there any other quick troubleshooting steps I may be missing?

    Suppose I take a PNG screenshot on a dual monitor system (let's assume for simplicity they are identical), The screenshot will capture both monitors. Now say I want to display that screenshot in an image viewer (windows photo viewer, xnview, etc) at fullscreen - I will then have to choose which monitor to display it on, distorting the image. Is there a way to strech it accross both monitors (aside of changing the windows display mode in the screen configuration window) ? I am using Windows 7 Thanks

I need to know how to set this so that the VM auto logs in with the domain account credentials used to log into the physical computer. Google hasn't helped me find the answer.

    I use Linux for hosting and editing code, but there are others at work that are using Windows. Sometimes they make the files have \r\n in them, and it's causing problems with version control. Should they be using the ASCII mode in their FTP manager? Should that force the line endings to be \n when uploading from Windows to Linux?

The idea is to have one Firefox instance for various "Serious Business" things and the other for regular browsing with dozens of add-ons securely isolated.

    With pure SQL - how to do it? I doubt it is possible, since even the SQL Management Studio fails to show the size of such a database in the UI. Already tried: exec sp_helpdb 'DbInRecMode' ...won't show anything; exec sys.sp_helpfile 'DbInRecMode' ... something like file not found (Msg 15325) Main pitfall seems to be the issue, that select * from DbInRecMode.dbo.sysfiles won't work when the database is in restoring mode. Any ideas?

    Tomcat 6 (as a windows service) seems to have a 'Start Mode' with options of 'java, jvm or exe' which can be set via the Tomcat Monitor (system tray icon). if I set this to 'java', I can see a forked 'java.exe' process for tomcat, if I chose either of the other two, I dont see a separate process. Anyway, would like to know if anyone has any information about what these settings mean and which one would be most appropriate in production.

    There's a website I sign into frequently, and I'm getting sick of entering my username and password every time. The website can remember who I am so long as I don't close my browser (Internet Explorer 8), but when I do it forgets me, and asks me to login again. I'm guessing this is because it's using a cookie (and perhaps a session) that expires when I close my browser. Is there anyway to make this information persistent across each time I load my browser? (I tried exporting the cookies to a file, and then importing them as soon as the browser was reloaded, but that didn't work either... I'm thinking the cookie text file needs to be modified somehow.) (FYI The website is http://blackboard.unh.edu, but you won't have access unless you happen to be a student there :-) NOTE: I'm not interested in using any password remembering features in the browser. The only solution I'm open to is making the cookie / session persistent somehow!
