• Display different layout according to Facebook connection status in Android

- by Rom Freiman
I'm building an Android application where I want users to connect by their facebook details. According to my design, when the application starts first time, I want to display a layout with LOGIN facebook button. After the user will perform login for the first time, I dont want to display this layout/activity again - when the application would be relanched, I want t display another (home) screen, and not the LOGIN one. How should I implement this functionality? Thanks

• Where to store: User connection information?

- by TomTom
;) I am writing a .NET application wher ethe user connects to a given server. ALl information within the application is stored in the server. But I want / need to store the following information for the user: The server he connected to last The username he used to connect last (and no, no password, never ever). Any idea where to store this best? the application config file is not sensible (user != admin, application.config is write protected for him). So, my options are: In the registry. 2 keys under my own subkey. In a sort of ini file, stored in the user's data directory (AppData). This would possibly also allow later expansion (into like saving more information, some of which may not fit into the registry). Anyone a tip? Other alternatives? I tend so far to go for the AppData directory with my own subfolder - simply because it is a nice preparation for later to keep like a local copy of configuration etc.

• Concept: Information Into Memory Location.

- by Richeve S. Bebedor
I am having troubles conceptualizing an algorithm to be used to transform any information or data into a specific appropriate and reasonable memory location in any data structure that I will be devising. To give you an idea, I have a JPanel object instance and I created another Container type object instance of any subtype (note this is in Java because I love this language), then I collected those instances into a data structure not specifically just for those instances but also applicable to any type of object. Now my procedure for fetching those data again is to extract the object specific features similar in category to all object in that data structure and transform it into a integer data memory location (specifically as much as possible) or any type of data that will pertain to this transformation. And I can already access that memory location without further sorting or applications of O(n) time complex algorithms (which I think preferable but I wanted to do my own way XD). The data structure is of any type either binary tree, linked list, arrays or sets (and the like XD). What is important is I don't need to have successive comparing and analysis of data just to locate information in big structures. To give you a technical idea, I have to an array DS that contains JLabel object instance with a specific name "HelloWorld". But array DS contains other types of object (in multitude). Now this JLabel object has a location in the array at index [124324] (which is if you do any type of searching algorithm just to arrive at that location is conceivably slow because added to it the data structure used was an array *note please disregard the efficiency of the data structure to be used I just want to explain to you my concept XD). Now I want to equate "HelloWorld" to 124324 by using a conceptually made function applicable to all data types. So that I can do a direct search by doing this DS[extractLocation("HelloWorld")] just to get that JLabel instance. I know this may sound crazy but I want to test my concept of non-sorting feature extracting search algorithm for any data structure wherein my main problem is how to transform information to be stored into memory location of where it was stored.

• Recognize active objects with a capacitive touch screen display

- by lucgian84
I'm trying to develop an app that can recognize an active object (for example: a memory) that touch the smartphone display. Before I start to develop I've to know if there's any objects that my touch screen display can recognize? Which device can be recognizable by a smartphone display? I'm interested to know that for iPhone or for Android phone. I found this app and you can see that with a card I can interact with a mobile device, now I'm asking you if anyone know how to do this kind of app with an iPhone or with an Android phone. Does anyone knows how to do that? There's a library (iOS or Android) to recognize object that I put over the display?

• Why should I use display:table instead of table

- by nimo9367
What's the benefits of structuring my site with divs and apply the display:table property ( display:tr, display:tr). Doesn't this mean that the divs will behave exactly like tr and td elements? I know I probably shouldn’t use tables or table behavior for layout at all but I'm just curious if there's a difference and a benefit?

• Converting a view to Bitmap without displaying it in Android?

- by sunil
Hi, I will try to explain what exactly I need to do. I have 3 separate screens say A,B,C. There is another screen called say HomeScreen where all the 3 screens bitmap should be displayed in Gallery view and the user can select in which view does he wants to go. I have been able to get the Bitmaps of all the 3 screens and display it in Gallery view by placing all the code in HomeScreen Activity only. Now, this has complicated the code a lot and I will like to simplify it. So, can I call another Activity from HomeScreen and do not display it and just get the Bitmap of that screen. For example, say I just call HomeScreen and it calls Activity A,B,C and none of the Activities from A,B,C are displayed. It just gives the Bitmap of that screen by getDrawingCache(). And then we can display those bitmaps in Gallery view in HomeScreen. I hope I have explained the problem very clearly. Please let me know if this is actually possible. Regards Sunil

• PHP - How do i display the first 20 li then have a link to display more (gallery)

- by Matt Rogers
I want to display about 20 li on a page with a link at the bottom that says something like 'display more'. This link will then clear the first 20 and display the next 20. How should i go about doing this. (I am creating a gallery) I was thinking about using PHP and MySQL. However for what I am doing I do not really need to store it in a database so is there an easier way of doing it only using html, php or javascript? thanks

• Problems extracting information from RSS feed description field

- by Graeme
Hi, I've built an iPhone application using the parsing code from the TopSongs sample iPhone application. I've hit a problem though - the feed I'm trying to parse data from doesn't have a separate field for every piece of information (i.e. if it was for a feed about dogs, all the information such as dog type, dog age and dog price is contained in the feed. However, the TopSongs app relies on information having its own tags, so instead of using it uses and . So my question is this. How do I extract this information from the description field so that it can be parsed using the TopSongs parser? Can you somehow extract the dog age, price and type information using Yahoo Pipes and use that RSS feed for the feed? Or is there code that I can add to do it in application? Update: To view the code of my application parser (based on the TopSongs Core Data Apple provided application, see below. Here's a sample of one item from the the actual RSS feed I'm using (the description is longer, and has status, size, and a couple of other fields, but they're all formatted the same.:

MOE, MARGRET STREET

District/Region: REGION 09
Location: MOE
Name: MARGRET STREET

/* File: iTunesRSSImporter.m Abstract: Downloads, parses, and imports the iTunes top songs RSS feed into Core Data. • vhost.conf file in PLESK not working as intended

- by Saif Bechan
I have configured a vhost file for my domain but it does not seem to work. These are the steps I took, please correct me if I am wrong. First I made a file called vhost.conf in: /var/www/vhosts/*domain*/conf/vhost.conf The content of the vhost file looks like this: <Directory /var/www/vhosts/*domain*/httpdocs> php_admin_flag engine on php_admin_flag display_errors on </Directory> Now in my /etc/php.ini i set display_errors=Off After everything i rebuild with: /usr/local/psa/admin/sbin/websrvmng -a But I don't see the any errors in my page. When i turn on the display_errors in /etc/php.ini only then can I see the errors. I know for a fact that the vhost file is read, because when i type nonsense values i get an error when restarting apache saying there are errors in the vhost file. Anyone know what the problem can be. Should there be special settings in either the php.ini file or the httpd.conf file. The httpd.conf i edit is in /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf. Is this the file that PLESK uses or is there another, because the values i see there do not really reflect the http folders of my domain. The httpd file looks like this now. # The document root DocumentRoot "/var/www/html" # i guess this is the base directory <Directory /> Order Deny,Allow Deny from all Options None AllowOverride None </Directory> # And i guess here are all my domains located, but there aren't any here <Directory "/var/www/html"> Options None AllowOverride None Order allow, deny Allow from all </Directory> Only this directory /var/www/html is not used by me, I use the directory /var/www/vhosts. The only folder found in /var/www/html is a folder called awstats. Does plesk use other files, and where are they located. I hope this all makes sense to anyone, and i hope i can find a solution

• Restored Domain Controller does not display any information using dcdiag command

- by dasko
I am testing restoring a domain controller from system state backup to different hardware in a non production environment as a sanity check for our restoration procedure. When i run the dcdiag command I get "blank info back" and all that is displayed are two lines as follows: Domain Controller Diagnosis Performing initial setup: and then I am returned to the command prompt. Even when I do dcdiag /v i get the same result. I have double checked the DNS settings and Active Directory works properly. All FSMO roles are being held by this restored Domain Controller. I am able to join test pc's to the domain without issue etc Is this a common issue or is there something that I am missing. Thanks.

• Getting apache to use ldap group and filesystem group information

- by Angelo
We have an Apache server which serves out of a particular directory, and just supplies a listing of files. From this directory, each subdirectory is owned by a certain group of users (at the filesystem level). User groups are determined by a posixGroup in ldap. Is there any simple way I can tell Apache to authorize access based on filesystem permissions, just like if the users were to access the filesystem from a shell? I would like to be able to simply add users/groups/directories without having to add another Directory or Location directive in Apache's conf?

• ASUS N56VZ-S4209P Screen saver, Screen dimming,sleep/hibernation mode not working according to power management settings

- by Alto Roos
I have a problem with my ASUS N56VZ-S4209P(Win8, I7-3630QM) laptop. If I use the fn+f7 command to turn off the screen it turns on by itself after a few seconds (the time varies between 1-10 seconds). In addition to this my screensaver doesn't activate at all and the laptop doesn't dim its screen after X minutes or goes into sleep/hibernation mode as specified in the power options when plugged in or on battery. As far as my knowledge goes it's not caused by the mouse or track pad at all since I can unplug my mouse and disable the track pad but the problem persist. I presume this is caused by the same problem? Does anyone know of a fix for this problem? It would be greatly appreciated. . . . I seem to have found a solution to the problem related to the screen that turns itself on again. The Power4Gear application has a setting which enables you to turn a "Presentation mode" "On" and "Off", if that setting is "Off" then it doesn't turn the screen on without any human interaction. Thus that part of the problem is fixed.

• There's a stray current flowing from my monitor through the VGA cable to the PC. Is this safe?

- by EApubs
I have two monitors in my machine. One is an old LCS samsung monitor. Recently, I started to hear a small hum in my speakers (subwoofer) and replaced them. The new one also got the issues then I found our that its a grounding issue. I unplugged the PC's power chord. The monitor is still switched on. When I checked, there's current in the earth pin (ground pin). When I unplug the monitor, there's no current and the speaker is normal. Now, I have moved that monitor to my dad's machine and took his monitor. My question is, is it a big issues? The house's earthing system is working and its grounding the current. I won't feel it if I touch the machine like in many other cases. But still, is it good to keep that monitor attached to my machine? Can it harm the computer? What should I do?

• Colors differ in the dual monitor

- by becomingGuru
I use a dual monitor. The colors appear entirely different on the new monitor than they do on my laptop. When you are selecting colors etc, to be included in a website design, it totally freaks me out. Is there no software solution that finds how the settings of one of the monitor is and puts that to the second one? Otherwise what all settings do I need to change manually on the second monitor to make it appear as it does on the laptop? Thanks in advance.

• How can I install CentOS without a keyboard, mouse, or monitor?

- by user1032531
I will be buying a new computer which will be used as a CentOS server. I will put it on my home LAN, and once it is set up, will access it only through SSH. I don't want to spend a lot of money (maybe $500), and I don't want to buy another monitor or keyboard just to through them away after the server is setup. My question is how do I access the computer without a keyboard and monitor when I install the operating system? For media, I can use either the DVD or an ISO on the USB, so am good there. But how do I see what I am doing and enter commands without a monitor or keyboard? I have a Window 7 laptop, an XP laptop, and a CentOS laptop. Can I use one of my laptops to act as the MMI (Man Machine Interface)? If not, what is the easiest and least expensive option? Thank you

• Sharing information between nodes in Beowulf Cluster

- by Alejandro Sazo
I am setting up a beowulf cluster and I've been reading that it might be necessary to make the home directory of the cluster users shared between them (assuming this users are local to each machine). The other case is leave each user with its own home and the communication is up to the master node. Another idea that came up was to use an LDAP unique user logged on each machine in the cluster, that keeps the idea of the shared home between nodes (but is only one home of one user). Which approach is better for this kind of cluster? Edit: The cluster is running openmpi and it will support cuda and opencl

• Blender refuses to start

- by Sekhemty
I'm trying to run Blender under Linux, but I'm unable to do that, whenever I try I get some errors. I'm using Kubuntu 12.04 with KDE 4.11.1. This is my video card: ~$ lspci | grep VGA 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] RV610/M74 [Mobility Radeon HD 2400 XT] I used to have installed the fglrx proprietary Catalyst drivers, but lately they gave me some system-wide problems and I had to revert to the open source Mesa drivers (I don't think that these details are important, but just in case, the whole story is here). Whit the fglrx drivers Blender was running fine, but now, whenever I try to start it, I get this error message (some parts are in italian, but I think that they are easily understandable): ~$ blender connect failed: No such file or directory Writing: /tmp/blender.crash.txt Errore di segmentazione (core dump creato) The content of /tmp/blender.crash.txt is as follows: # Blender 2.68 (sub 5), Revision: 60150 # backtrace /usr/lib/blender/blender() [0x877a41f] [0xb7756400] /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libLLVM-3.0.so.1(_ZN4llvm3ARM8SPRClassC1Ev+0x15) [0xa8f4a9d5] /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libLLVM-3.0.so.1(+0x25ca48) [0xa8eefa48] /lib/ld-linux.so.2(+0xeeab) [0xb7765eab] /lib/ld-linux.so.2(+0xef94) [0xb7765f94] /lib/ld-linux.so.2(+0x12fa6) [0xb7769fa6] /lib/ld-linux.so.2(+0xeccf) [0xb7765ccf] /lib/ld-linux.so.2(+0x127f4) [0xb77697f4] /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libdl.so.2(+0xbe9) [0xb4ff9be9] /lib/ld-linux.so.2(+0xeccf) [0xb7765ccf] /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libdl.so.2(+0x133a) [0xb4ffa33a] /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libdl.so.2(dlopen+0x47) [0xb4ff9c97] /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/mesa/libGL.so.1(+0x3cbf0) [0xb7717bf0] /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/mesa/libGL.so.1(+0x4079d) [0xb771b79d] /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/mesa/libGL.so.1(+0x1a3aa) [0xb76f53aa] /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/mesa/libGL.so.1(glXQueryVersion+0x2e) [0xb76f0cee] /usr/lib/blender/blender(_ZN15GHOST_WindowX11C1EP15GHOST_SystemX11P9_XDisplayRK10STR_Stringiijj18GHOST_TWindowStatei25GHOST_TDrawingContextTypebbt+0x11c) [0x8f54aec] /usr/lib/blender/blender(_ZN15GHOST_SystemX1112createWindowERK10STR_Stringiijj18GHOST_TWindowState25GHOST_TDrawingContextTypebbti+0xd7) [0x8f4f4a7] /usr/lib/blender/blender(GHOST_CreateWindow+0xb6) [0x8f4cf86] /usr/lib/blender/blender(wm_window_add_ghostwindows+0x205) [0x8799be5] /usr/lib/blender/blender(WM_check+0x50) [0x877b670] /usr/lib/blender/blender(wm_homefile_read+0x111) [0x87859f1] /usr/lib/blender/blender(WM_init+0xd2) [0x8787872] /usr/lib/blender/blender(main+0xe6e) [0x873848e] /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libc.so.6(__libc_start_main+0xf3) [0xb4e694d3] /usr/lib/blender/blender() [0x8778a99] The only thing that I can guess from this report is that the mesa drivers are somewhat involved, as I already suspected, but I don't have a clue on what I need to do to try to solve the issue.

• Is Displayport preferable to DVI for monitor connections?

- by Sliff
I'm currently running a single Dell 24" (2408WFP) screen, but am considering adding a second. The problem I've got is that I'm currently using the DVI connector to the on board graphics, so will need to purchase a new graphics card. The 2408WFP also has HDMI and DisplayPort inputs, so I was wondering if DisplayPort is worth considering at present over DVI? On the same subject, does anyone actually manufacture reasonably priced DisplayPort cards - all I've managed to find seem to very expensive workstation cards aimed at financial/design/simulation markets.
