  • Developing a cloud based app

    I am a company owner that has developed a cloud based app. My code writer has told me how good he is more than once, well, better stated, he did a good job telling me he was better than everyone else in my rather small community. In the last 18 months I have spent nearly 160,000.00 dollars trying to get this company to the "making money" stage. I am now nearly broke, sitting on the edge of a brilliant marketing plan to launch a much needed cloud based app. We did launch our app last year (late 2013), and the feedback was amazing from the users. One user that signed up to use the free app stated that we needed to call him the moment our company goes public because he wants to be the first to buy stock. Now, here's my problem. We did not originally set out to develop a freemium app, we just sort of ended up there by the natural progression of the app. So, now I have an app that really needs to be scrapped and re-built. Although I do feel my code writer has displayed some brilliance in what he has done, he was extremely weak on graphics and every time we speak he tells me there is a newer better way to code that he is trying to learn. So, here's the million dollar question. Ho do I find code writers that already know the newest, best ways to write code? Or maybe better asked, what is the newest best code writing technique? Second, is it even possible to find code writers that are good at graphics? In short, I am nearly broke and need to start over, but I do not know where to find people qualified to write it good the first time around and display good graphic skills. I am trying to build a team of writers instead of just one person. Maybe 3 good at code and two good at graphics, but I am clueless as to what criteria I should use to determine if I am building the right team members. Please help, I am sure you can tell I am fairly lost by my continued rambling.

If I want to read a book for the second time if I try to sync to the furthest page read it will push me to the last page because that's the furthest I've read. Am I doomed to only read Kindle books once?

  • Using nginx's proxy_redirect when the response location's domain varies

    I am making an web app using SoundCloud's API. Requesting an MP3 to stream involves two requests. I'll give an example. Firstly: http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/59815100/stream This returns a 302 with a temporary link to the actual MP3 (which varies each time), for example: http://ec-media.soundcloud.com/xYZk0lr2TeQf.128.mp3?ff61182e3c2ecefa438cd02102d0e385713f0c1faf3b0339595667fd0907ea1074840971e6330e82d1d6e15dd660317b237a59b15dd687c7c4215ca64124f80381e8bb3cb5&AWSAccessKeyId=AKIAJ4IAZE5EOI7PA7VQ&Expires=1347621419&Signature=Usd%2BqsuO9wGyn5%2BrFjIQDSrZVRY%3D The issue I had was that I am attempting to load the MP3 via JavaScript's XMLHTTPRequest, and for security reasons the browser can't follow the 302, as ec-media.soundcloud.com does not set a header saying it is safe for the browser to access via XMLHTTPRequest. So instead of using the SoundCloud URL, I set up two locations in nginx, so the browser only interacts with the server my app is hosted on and no security errors come up: location /soundcloud/tracks/ { # rewrite URL to match api.soundcloud.com's URL structure rewrite \/soundcloud\/tracks\/(\d*) /tracks/$1/stream break; proxy_set_header Host api.soundcloud.com; proxy_pass http://api.soundcloud.com; # the 302 will redirect to /soundcloud/media instead of the original domain proxy_redirect http://ec-media.soundcloud.com /soundcloud/media; } location /soundcloud/media/ { rewrite \/soundcloud\/media\/(.*) /$1 break; proxy_set_header Host ec-media.soundcloud.com; proxy_pass http://ec-media.soundcloud.com; } So myserver/soundcloud/tracks/59815100 returns a 302 to /myserver/soundcloud/media/xYZk0lr2TeQf.128.mp3...etc, which then forwards the MP3 on. This works! However, I have hit a snag. Sometimes the 302 location is not ec-media.soundcloud.com, it's ak-media.soundcloud.com. There are possibly even more servers out there and presumably more could appear at any time. Is there any way I can handle an arbitrary 302 location without having to manually enter each possible variation? Or is it possible for nginx to handle the redirect and return the response of the second step? So myserver/soundcloud/tracks/59815100 follows the 302 behind the scenes and returns the MP3? The browser automatically follows the redirect, so I can't do anything with the initial response on the client side. I am new to nginx and in a bit over my head so apologies if I've missed something obvious, or it's beyond the scope of nginx. Thanks a lot for reading.

  • Are web service handler chains possible under IIS / ASP.NET

    I'm working with a client who wants me to implement a particular design in an IIS/ASP.NET environment. This design was already implemented in Java, but I am not sure it is possible using Microsoft technologies. In a Tomcat/Java environment one can create so call Handler Chains. In essence a handler runs on the server on which the web service is running and it intercepts the SOAP message coming to the web service. The handler can perform a number of tasks before passing control to the web service. Some of these tasks may refer to authentication and authorization. Moreover, one can create handler chains, such that the handlers can run in a particular sequence before passing control to the web service. This is a very elegant solution, as certain aspects of authentication and authorization can be automatically performed, without the developer of the client application and of the web service having to invest anything in it. The code for the client application and the web service is not affected. You may find a number of articles on internet on this subject by searching on Google for "web service handler chain". I performed searches for web service handlers in IIS or ASP.NET. I get some hits, but apparently handlers in IIS have another meaning than that described above. My question therefor is: Can handler chains (as available in Java and Tomcat) be created in IIS? If so, how (any article, book, forum...)? Either a negative or a positive answer will be greatly appreciated. Mike

  • set service dependency on internet connection

    Hi, I have created a window service and set some dependencies like on MSMQ, MSSQLSERVER and so. Everything is working nice. but i need to send another dependency for my service. That is on internet connection. My service is responsible for sending emails. As soon my server starts, my service starts too and it finds if there is anything to send, if there is, it starts to send email, if during sending it is not able to connect to the internet it cannot send email. so i guess i should set my service dependency on internet connection too. I already set my window service dependency to MicrosoftSQL Server and Microsoft Message Queuing by editing the registry value. by adding new multi string value named "DependOnService", Type "REG_MULTI_SZ" and space separated names of the services that my service depends upon for the Data. For Microsoft SQL Server i set the value to "MSSQLSERVER" but i don't know the name of the internet service that i need to set dependency upon. how can i do this, any help please Thanks

  • Subversion 1.7.x and expat location in configure

    I am running CentOS 6.3 64bit and DirectAdmin control panel. Currently I have installed Apache Subversion 1.6.19 without any problems. I have installed expat and expat-devel and neon-devel using yum. When installing Apache Subversion 1.6.19 this configure command works fine: ./configure --prefix=/usr --with-ssl --with-apxs=/usr/sbin/apxs --with-apr=/usr/bin/apr-config However when installing Apache Subversion 1.7.7 using the same configure command as above, I get this error after doing commmand "make": /etc/httpd/lib/libaprutil-1.so: undefined reference to `XML_StopParser' collect2: ld returned 1 exit status make: *** [subversion/svnadmin/svnadmin] Error 1 However I found out I can solve that problem by adding this into the configure command: --with-expat=includes:lib_search_dirs:libs So it then looks like this: ./configure --prefix=/usr --with-ssl --with-expat=includes:lib_search_dirs:libs --with-apxs=/usr/sbin/apxs --with-apr=/usr/bin/apr-config However that configure command then give this warning: configure: WARNING: Expat found amongst libraries used by APR-Util, but Subversion libraries might be needlessly linked against additional unused libraries. It can be avoided by specifying exact location of Expat in argument of --with-expat option. So I want to solve that. I have experimentet alot, but not been able to figure out how to "specifying exact location of Expat" in configure command, and how to find out what the location should be? However after a lot of searching I found this: http://subversion.tigris.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=3997 - that is a FreeBSD user saying this: Building Subversion 1.7.x on FreeBSD currently requires a configure flag: --with-expat=/usr/local/include:/usr/local/lib:expat As that is the default location of expat on that platform, it would be nice if configure detected it automatically. However I am not using FreeBSD, I am running CentOS 6.3 64bit. Also remember I said I have installed expat and expat-devel and neon-devel using yum. However I tried to use the expat/command path posted by the FreeBSD user, and it seems to work, it does not give errors when running configure command, and does not give errors when running "make". This is what I used then: ./configure --prefix=/usr --with-ssl --with-expat=/usr/local/include:/usr/local/lib:expat --with-apxs=/usr/sbin/apxs --with-apr=/usr/bin/apr-config But this server is a production server, and therfor I need your help to advice if this is also correct to run on a CentOS server? Is the following path in expat command correct on CentOS?: --with-expat=/usr/local/include:/usr/local/lib:expat If not, please advice what it should be changed to.     This week we had the fifth webcast in our WebCenter in Action webcast series, "Los Angeles Department of Building & Safety Lowers Customer Service Costs with Oracle WebCenter", where customers Giovani Dacumos and Minh Ong from the Los Angeles Department of Building & Safety (LADBS), and Sheetal Paranjpye and Rajiv Desai from Oracle Partner 3Di, shared how Oracle WebCenter is powering LADBS' externally facing website and providing a superior self-service experience for their customers. We asked the speakers to provide some dialogue for Q&A.   Giovani Dacumos, Director of Systems and Minh Ong, LADBS Q: Did you run into any issues when integrating all of the different applications together?A: Yes. We did have issues integrating a secure sign on between the portal and other legacy applications. We used portlets and iframes to overcome those.  This is a new technology for us and we are also learning as we go so there were a lot of challenges in developing and implementing our vision. Q: What has been the biggest benefit your end users have seen?A: The biggest benefit for our ends users is ease-of-use. We've given them a system that provided a new and improved source of information, as well as a very organized flow of transaction processing. It has made our online service very user friendly. Q: Was there any resistance internally when implementing the solution? If so, how did you overcome that?A: There was no internal resistance during the implementation, only challenges. As mentioned earlier, this is a new technology for us. We've come across issues that needed assistance from Oracle. Working with 3Di and Oracle has helped us tremendously to find solutions to our implementation issues. Q: Given the performance, what do you estimate to be the top end capacity of the system? A: With the current performance and architecture we have, we are able to support approx 300-400 concurrent users.  We would need more hardware to support additional user load. Q: What's the overview or summary of feedback from the users interacting with the site?A: LADBS has a wide spectrum of customers, from simple users like homeowners to large construction firms. Anything new that we offer could be a little bit challenging for some, but overall, the customers liked it. They saw a huge improvement on the usability. Q: Can you describe the impressions about the site before and after the project within LADBS?A: The old site was using old technology and it was hard for us to keep on building into it as we got more business requirements. It made our application seem a bit complicated.  It was confusing for our new customers to use and we've improved on this with the new site. It's now easier for them to complete their transactions and, at the same time, allowed us to provide more useful information. Sheetal Paranjpye and Rajiv Desai, 3Di Q: Did you run into any obstacles when implementing the solution?A: Yes we did run into some obstacles. One of the key show stoppers was the issue with portlet to portal communication. The GIS viewer (portlet) needed information to be passed  to and from Permit LA (Portal), but we were able to get everything configured and up and working quickly! Q: Was there a lot of custom work that needed to be done for this particular solution?A: We have done some customizations where workflows/ Task flows are involved.  Q: What do you think were the keys to success for rolling out WebCenter?A: Having a service oriented architecture and using portlets have been the key areas for rolling out Oracle WebCenter at LADBS. The Oracle WebCenter Content integration allows the flexibility to business users to maintain the content, which has really cut down on the reliance of IT, and employee productivity has increased as a result.   • ADF Mobile - Update through Web Service (with ADF Business Components)

    In my previous blog entry I went over the basics of exposing ADF Business Components through service interfaces, and developing a simple ADF Mobile application that access and fetches data from those services. In this entry we'll dive a bit deeper  and address an update scenario through these web service interfaces. You can see the full demo video at the end of the post. In the first steps I show how to add an explicit method execution to fetch a specific record we want to update on the second page of a flow. For an update you'll be invoking a service method and passing the record you want to update as a parameter. As in many other Web services scenarios, we need to provide a complete object of specific type to the method. The ADF Web service data control helps you here by offering an object of this type that you can drag and drop into your page. The next step is to make sure to fill that object with the values you want to update. In the demo we do this through  coding in a backing bean that shows how to use the AdfmfJavaUtilities utility. The code gets the value from one field, gets a pointer to the parallel update field, and then copy from one to the other. At the end of the bean we manually execute the call to the update method on the Web service.   • User defined datatypes CANNOT be returned in web service in Jboss 5.0.1

    I am using Jboss 5.0.1, jdk 1.6.0 update 31 and implementing an EJB as a web service and my method in web service module returns an Array of JavaBean objects in my example BenefitLevel array object.   • SharePoint custom web service consumption problems - HTTP 401: Unauthorized

    I have a custom web service deployed into WSS 3. It has two web methods. The first one returns the version of the loaded assembly without any invocation of the SharePoint objects. The second returns some basic info about the library, something like: var spLibrary = [find library logic]; return spLibrary.Name+"@"+spLibrary.Url; In the client app I have something like the following: var service = new WebService1(); service.Url = [url]; service.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials; service.Method1(); service.Method2(); When the client app runs on the machine where SharePoint is deployed, everything works just fine. When the client app runs on the remote machine (but under the same user) the first method still works, but the second one throws System.Net.WebException: HTTP 401: Unauthorized. I have tried to set credentials manualy (service.Credentials = new System.Net.NetworkCredential(login, password, domain);) but this doesnt help. I've tried to invoke the built in SharePoint web services using a similar scenario, and they work just fine: Sorry for the mistake... Some methods were not working fine without the appropriate privileges. var service = new GroupsService(); service.Url = [url]; service.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials; service.SomeMethod();
