• Ubuntu 13.04 Eclipse 3.8.1 fresh install..cannot read Eclipse help files..ideas?

  I have recently setup a dual boot windows 7 /Ubuntu 13.04. Problem: I installed eclipse from the Ubuntu software center. Eclipse opens fine, but when i attempt to access the help i get a "server error 500".. What i know: the help file is located locally and read via the browser.. any ideas?.. nb.. novice linux user, happy to try anything to provide more data, ppls just be specific (ie assume i know zilch..) update jun 30th.. Although not an answer to this question, i have patched a working solution by removing the version of eclipse supplied by the Ubuntu software center and installing from eclipse.org.. details at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2157452 thanks

• How to prevent creation of monitors.xml?

  I'm using Ubuntu on a tablet and have a problem with the screen rotation, which I can fix by removing ~/.config/monitors.xml, but sadly every time I rotate the screen a new monitors.xml is created. Is there any way to prevent this? I already tried to create an empty file with the same name as root but it was still overwritten after rotating the screen. Edit: I think I finally found the reason for the problem. Everytime the orientation is changed the new orientation is saved in monitors.xml while the original monitors.xml is saved as monitors.xml.backup. By playing around with chattr I found out that this causes Ubuntu to try to restore monitors.xml out of monitors.xml.backup after every login. So if I turn the screen to the left and then back to normal monitors.xml says "orientation=normal" and monitors.xml.backup says "orientation=left". After the login Ubuntu overwrites monitors.xml with the backup and uses its configuration and turns the screen to the left.

• Can't adjust brightness on Samsung RV420 with fn keys

  Typing ls /sys/class/backlight/*/brightness outputs /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness /sys/class/backlight/samsung/brightness The max_brightness for the second is 8, but changing it with echo 2 | sudo tee /sys/class/backlight/samsung/brightness doesn't change brightness. I can do it by using intel_backlight: echo 2000 | sudo tee /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness (max_brightness: cat /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/max_brightness outputs 4648). But I want to do this work with the fn brightness keys, as I always did. I don't know what happened to stop working, maybe the use of +1 monitor and removing it in a wrong time or a system update. I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 64 bits in an Samsung RV420 notebook. Kernel Version is 3.2.0-27-generic. Could you help me? Please tell me what more info should I provide. Thanks!

  I have a web app thats been in active development for about 8 months now and its becoming apparent that the project has a need to maintain a separation between app specific code and our OO Javascript API. What I would like to do is have another repository with the following general structure of the js API code. repo_name | +---build | +---build_tools | +---doc | +---src | +---js Of course this structure is different from the original web app directory structure. If I make changes to this new repository how could I pull in those changes to the web app repository without unintentionally removing files or modifying the directory structure of the web app repository?

• How can I disable usb-autosuspend for a specific device?

  This is related to the issue discussed in this question. Summary: the mouse freezes when operating on battery since it is autosuspended after a certain time and needs more time to wake up. Disabling usb-autosuspend for the mouse's receiver in powertop is a temporary solution but does not survive a reboot. How can I permanently disable the usb autosuspend for only one specific device? A solution that does not involve installing additional packages is preferred (after all, I want to disable something) but not required. Removing powertop (which seems to be a solution for some) is not what I want - I like poertop... And installing laptop-mode-tools to disable usb_autosuspend alltogether is not what I want, either, thus the new question. Also: will this affect the battery of my notebook? The logitech unifying receiver for the mouse stays connected all the time, so if that prevents the autosuspend from happening for all devices that would probably be bad.

  I have setup a virtualhost for MacOSX Apache instalation. To further isolate the problem I check the same configuration with MAMP and the virtual host worked rigth, so the configuration files should be fine. What can be wrong?

• Right click menu stopped working in firefox

  Right click menu stopped working in firefox as well as address bar auto completion. I have tried removing and installing firefox again from software center, but the problem persist. UPDATE: Hehum, strange. I wanted to restart in safe mode, clicked help menu, and noticed that menu is ubuntu software center menu! Then cllosed software center, and menu was gone. So now right click is working, auto complete is working, but there is no main menu! Probably unity global menu integration problem. Also, there is no firefox in launcher nor alt+tab any more. Any idea? UPDATE: For some reason, it works after computer restart :o

• Clonezilla failing as soon as image copying begins

  I have been trying unsuccessfully to create an image of an Ubuntu 10.04 laptop system. As soon as the copying itself starts, the entire system crashes to a black screen. I suspect that the problem is overheating, and that's why I put an ice pack under the machine. That seems to have helped a bit, but it's still not getting through the copying process. Is there any other possible explanation for dying to a black screen like this? I'm just not relishing the task of removing the hard drive, mounting it elsewhere, and then doing a backup that way.

• Ever since installing Ubuntu Accomplishments, RSSOwl won't open without crashing. Why?

  I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 on an older machine, so I am accustomed to not being able to run resource-heavy apps well, or at all. However, RSSOwl had been running like a champ up until the moment I installed Ubuntu Accomplishments. I'm not the most code savvy, but I don't see what one of these would have to do with the other. I have already tried removing and re-installing RSSOwl, to no avail, and I'd rather not have to uninstall Accomplishments, because I love trophies of all kinds. Any ideas?

• Unable to keep the connecting using a wireless bridge

  I am running Ubuntu 12.04 on a dell inspiron desktop (core 2 duo) and am using wicd to manage my network/wifi. I've found that the WiFi card in the machine has trouble staying connected to my router (I believe this is a function of distance between the two), so I've taken an old Belkin F5d7231 wireless router and installed dd-wrt on it to use as a wireless bridge hoping that it will have better reception. I think everything up through the wireless bridge is working OK since I have no problems accessing the internet through it with my MacBook. The problem arises when I try to hook the ubuntu machine up to the wireless bridge. It will connect for a few minutes, but it will quickly disconnect without clear triggering event; it may be more likely to disconnect if there is a heavy traffic load going over it (could be something as simple as "cat big_text_file" in an ssh session). I've tried switching from dhclient to dhcpcd without much improvement.   Our website is set up to direct all traffic for www.example.com to example.com with a line in the htaccess file. With google analytics new in page analytics feature we are thinking of removing the line and allowing people to visit www.example.com as well to play with the new features. My question is this. How will this change affect our analytics data. -will nothing change and we can start using the new feature with our existing data -Are the two domains tracked separately and we will have to start over with www.example .com Any help would be great, as I can find nothing on googles help site covering this. • Used DBAN to wipe Lenovo u410 then installed Ubuntu. Need to install windows 8, but I get an error.

  When I try to boot from my windows 8 USB (tested on a separate PC), I get this error text "The boot configuration data for your pc is missing or contains errors." I want to install windows again so I can fix a battery issue I'm having. Lenovo's power management app has an option to keep the battery at 60% if the laptop stays plugged in most of the time. I enabled this, then formatted without changing it back. I think there might be a raid setup that I may need to remove or something. I don't mind removing Ubuntu and starting fresh. I would just love some help with all this, I'm a noob when it comes to Linux.

• Customize autoindent settings in VIMRC file

  I have autoindent enabled in my .vimrc file but have run into an annoying bug/feature. For example, when I'm tabbed in 3 times, and I hit return, the new line is also tabbed in 3 times. Then when I hit enter again, that new line is also indented 3 times, as it should. The problem occurs when I go back up to the previous line (the first of the 2 new lines). VIM automatically removes the whitespace because it saw it as an empty line. Is there a way to disable this from happening? I'd like to be able to back to coding like this: function test(){ <return> <return> } <up> <right> Thanks!

[A]ll, [2][U]serInteraction, [3][R]esultGeneration : u 2 User Interaction. Running "mocha integration\2userint.js" ... So essentially I have configured a batch "option" for each test file I have, which I can choose to run individually or all together. But adding and removing tests is a pain. Is there something that does this or anything like this automatically? Like reads all the files and asks me which file(s) I want to test. A GUI with checkboxes would be ultimate! but I'll take anything. I'm working in node.js

• When syncing, removed contacts still show upp (One contacts)

  Hi! I just tried out using the Ubuntu One Contacts app for android. First I imported all the contacts from my phone, SIM-card and Google mail account, then I spent quite a while removing duplicates which got imported. Then I tried to sync it for the first time. The strange thing is that I also got all the contacts which I removed from my contacts list on the website. So I have to set "show only contacts with phone numbers" to get all the email adresses I imported from google ealier to not show up, even though I deleted them from the contacts list and have only Ubuntu One contacts showing. Why is that? Thank you!

  If you have seen my last question: trapped inside a Graph : Find paths along edges that do not cross any edges How do you split an entire graph into distinct shapes 'trapped' inside the graph(like the ones described in my last question) with good complexity? What I am doing now is iterating over all edges and then starting to traverse while always taking the rightmost turn. This does split the graph into distinct shapes. Then I eliminate all the excess shapes (that are repeats of previous shapes) and return the result. The complexity of this algorithm is O(E^2). I am wondering if I could do it in O(E) by removing edges I already traversed previously. My current implementation of that returns unexpected results.

• How long does boot repair take?

  Reinstalling Ubuntu messed up my boot loader so I I tried to fix it with boot repair. It detected my OSX installation and asked about removing the "separate boot/EFI". It also said my partition was full despite the fact that it wasn't and asked me to remove stuff. I declined both and proceeded. It's been stuck at the "purge and reinstall the GRUB" stage for half an hour. Is this typical, bearing in mind I have a fast SSD and CPU? Is there a better way to re-install grub on a multi-booting UEFI system? Does my pastebin provide any insight?

• Several domains using 302 redirect to our domain

  I am wondering what implications we can run into if one of our dealers is redirecting several of their domains using a 302 to our domain. The reason they are doing this is because they want to have time to build on their current sites but still want some content on the domains they own. Currently our domain is under a Manual Penalty for back links that we are working on removing.   How can I remove or autohide to 0 the bottom Gnome panel from a remastered liveCD and autostart AWN (or any dock for that matter...) to replace it? , just as moonOS 4 (the distro that gave me the idea to try to do this) Using this command to enable the auto hide gconftool-2 -t bool -s /apps/panel/default_setup/toplevels/bottom_panel/auto_hide "true" i Figured out how to Autostart AWN,however that involves removing BOTH panels, so im not quite there yet Using UCK gconf-editor to manually edit the option to auto hide the bottom panel doesn't work, when testing the livecd BOTH panels are still there, even though i use the command and then run gconf-editor to check that the option is eneabled, which it is, however, once the livecd starts the autohide feature is disabled

• Skipping intermediate Ubuntu OS upgrade to latest one,How do I upgrade from 9.04 to 10.04.2?

  I'm currently runing Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty. I want to upgrade to 10.04.02, but whenever I use the Update manager to do this, it fails with the error "An upgrade from 'jaunty' to 'lucid' is not supported with this tool". I also tried to run sudo do-release-upgrade -d, but it fails with the same error message: Checking for a new ubuntu release Done Upgrade tool signature Done Upgrade tool Done downloading extracting 'lucid.tar.gz' authenticate 'lucid.tar.gz' against 'lucid.tar.gz.gpg' tar: Removing leading `/' from member names Reading cache Checking package manager Can not upgrade An upgrade from 'jaunty' to 'lucid' is not supported with this tool.
