  • Small low resource music player?

    I'm looking for music player software that I can install on a 4GB thumb drive, it has to be small (so I have more room for music) and use as little system resources as possible. If it was compatible with Linux and Windows that would be great, but if not I would prefer it be compatible with Windows. I have been looking around, but I do not have time to try out every option available, so I thought this would be a good place to get some help. So what are some of the best options?

  • Knowledge and user generated content management system to track files, research, proposals, etc.?

    I'll try keep it short. Here's the scenario: We have employees all over the world performing similar work i.e. research, generating powerpoint slides, word documents, graphics, etc. Many times a lot of this previous work can be reused for another future project. The current arrangement is email and phone calls which as you would agree is quick if you know where to look but otherwise archaic and very very inefficient. So I am looking for software that will allow me to do the following: Tag files e.g. an investor presentation on cellphone usage in kenya would be tagged investor, cellphone, kenya Manage references e.g. if we read something on the internet, should be able to paste that link in some fashion and tag it as above. Preferably cloud based so that it can be accessed by anybody and additionally would be nice (though NOT must) to have access levels (director, manager, everyone) A nice interface that non technically savvy folks can warm up to ;) A desktop app would be handy so that people don't always have to click upload or something A tree based system is inefficient in this case because content is usually linked across branches and also people might not quite agree on one format of a tree. Tagging works around this very nicely. What I have considered so far: Evernote (for its more professional look) Springpad (for its versatility with content) Mendeley (this is a research manager and in some ways ideal, but i fear its limited to PDFs) The goal is that when somebody wants to look for a document, they don't have to ask a colleague, they can just search with keywords and all relevant information shows up.   • Mouse gestures for Windows with "Rocker" support

    I'm looking for a mouse gestures program for Windows (including XP). I've seen gMote and StrokeIt, both pretty good, but they're both missing one thing: support for Rocker Gestures. If you don't know it, a Rocker gesture is just holding your right mouse button, then clicking your left (and vice versa). StrokeIt, at least, supports Rocker gestures in one direction, but not the other. Anybody know of a good program that has support for Rocker gestures? Thanks

    I'm looking for a decent flash video downloader for Firefox. There are tons of them. I'd like to use it for a custom site with some random flash video player, not Youtube. How can it be accomplished? Edit: None of these methods you guys suggested worked so far; I looked up various places where the temporary file might end up - it just doesn't. It is indeed a flash player, but it seems like it's not caching - is that possible?

    Hi, I'm about to install new bunch of software on a Windows XP Pro PC and found InstallPad as a potential method to do it all. However before using it I was wondering if there were any other similar apps that could be better or easier to use? Requirements (should haves more than must haves): - Free - Easy to use and configure - preferably from point and click in a GUI instead of command line params or config files - Robust - bug free or still in active/ongoing development - Some level of support or active community for help or tips - Pre-existing file lists that can be adapted for own use or used outright.     What free antivirus solutions would you recommend? What are the limitations? What are the dangers of using free versions as opposed to paid solutions? E.g. are they less reliable? As mentioned by Tony, most of the free solutions are limited to personal use so the question will mainly focus on solutions for personal use. See if your antivirus of choice is already listed.     I found I have problem to be a little addictive with surfing on internet. I am trying to find a free ware, (or software), that can help me for exemple to be just 2 hours per day on internet. Like it is counting the minutes and than stop working. not just 2 hours in one time, but in whole day.... maybe that it has different modes (2hours together, in whole day, 2hours + little reserve time) but I need something that really take me away access from internet :) Just counting time, is not enough for me :) Hope we will find something because, I just can't avoid not to loose 4 hours on internet. For example I want every morming at 8:00 the program open a particular mp3 file. But suposse, by mistake, that I on my computer and 9:00, then I want that the program rememberme what I planned to open at 8:00. Show me the program as an active windows on my desktop. The windows of the program opened is what the user is seeing (Is at the first place in the desktop) and the rest of the program windows are below. Close programs or files in my own computer at a planned time. For example I want that the program mp3 file that was opened at 8:00 was closed at 10:00 if at that time still be opened. Detection of events. For instance If I open particular videogame program. then a mp3 file (with a recording message arguing why I shouldn´t continue playing that videogame at work time) is opened.   • Software to cache a web application for use offline

    My boss quite regularly has to demo our web application to clients in a situation with no wifi available and sketchy 3G access, quite often the 3G lets him down. I have considered setting a copy of our server up in a virtual machine on his laptop so he could demo it offline, but I fear this will just introduce more headaches when he forgets how to boot the VM up. What I'd ideally like is an app that records you logging into a web app, saves copies of all the pages and ties the links and buttons you click up to offline copies of the pages it saves. So you could run through the demonstration you're going to give and have it cache the pages. When you then click the same buttons and links in offline mode it will present the relevant offline pages. Does such a thing exist? Can anyone recommend any alternative solutions to this problem? Thanks, Anthony

  • What is the difference between these Pentium Extreme Edition CPUs?

    The CPU in question is the Pentium Extreme Edition 955. Intel's website shows four "versions", but for the most part they all look identical. They even share the same set of ordering codes. But one of them has a substantially lower TDP, which is seemingly unexplainable - since everything else is the same. Two of them say "LGA775, Tray" and I have no idea what "Tray" means either. Also, two of them have a different SPEC code. What I need to know is: What does "LGA775, Tray" mean? Why does the one CPU have a lower TDP? And what does that mean for me? Does that mean lower maximum power consumption? Does it mean the CPU may be more stable/endurant, because of a lower heat output? Why do two of them have a different SPEC code, and what does this mean? Finally, what does PLGA775 (as opposed to LGA775) mean, and do I need to be worried about that?   • Live screen annotation?

    Hey all, I'm in need of some software that will allow me to make annotations on the screen to ease the frustration of using a piece of low-quality software to verify some data. I've tried a few programs out, but so far none of them have one essential feature: I must be able to switch between the annotation software and the program without losing the annotations that I've previously made.   • Free Markdown JS viewer

    I'd like to use Markdown for documents to be exchanged with a colleague of mine. The ideal workflow would be IMHO editing the source in any plaintext editor while simultaneously viewing it in a browser. The client viewer should be able to redraw the text after each save automatically, and ideally even always switch to the most recent source file (so I don't need to navigate there manually). It'd be nice if I could (was allowed) modify the viewer a bit, things like using trailing spaces for line breaks are really terrible (I don't see them, my editor strips them, git complains about them, etc.). I'm interested in a software capable of this and easy to modify, and also in your opinions on the described workflow.

I can use notepad, but I have to use mouse or alt-tab extensively in order to switch from notepad to the player to pause the movie.   • Old laptop turns off due to overheating

    I have an old Laptop that powers off when the processor's temperature exceeds 84degs Celsius. The more annoying part is flash causes this the most of the times. If I watch a web feed for more than 15-20mins, it results into hard shutdown of the machine. I have an idea of a could-be solution to this problem, I want a program that would decrease the processor's clock speed to about 1.2GHz or whatever, leading it a lower temperature. Is there a program out there that does this? P.S. Someone please edit this and add the relevant tags, as I'm new and i have no idea of what tags to choose from.
