System randomly Crashing

Hi guys, Computer is running windows XP. seems to be crashing randomly, no pattern in its timing or activity to cause it. What could be causing this/how do I diagnose this? Server crashes when too much memory is allocated

Hi all, my server crashes whenever one of my users is running a 'R' script (this script requires a large amount of memory). Windows 7: app crashing/hanging on "save as" dialog

now this is really annoying - I'm having a global problem in Windows 7: when using the system's "save as"-file dialog, the main app will just hang. the mouse-cursor is showing progress, the whole app is hanging and I need to terminate it manually. it's happening with every app! (notepad, word, graphics app). I'm assuming it's something with the system enumerating the harddisk-drivenames or something. any idea how to fix this? by the way - when viewing the problem details - it's telling the module - it's msonsext.dll, looks like some office thing to me.

Why might login failures cause SQL 2005 to dump and ditch?

Our SQL 2005 server began timing out and finally stopped responding on Oct 26th. The application logs showed a ton of 17883 events leading up to a reboot. After the reboot everything was fine but we were still scratching our heads. Fast forward 6 days... it happened again. Then again 2 days later. The last night. Today it has happened three times to far. The timeline is fairly predictable when it happens: Trans log backups. Login failure for "user2". Minidump Another minidump for the scheduler Repeated 17883 events. Server fails little by little until it won't accept any requests. Reboot is all that gets us going again (a band-aid) Interesting, though, is that the server box itself doesn't seem to have any problems. CPU usage is normal. Network connectivity is fine. We can remote in and look at logs. Management studio does eventually bog down, though. Today, for the first time, we tried stopping services instead of a reboot. All services stopped on their own except for the SQL Server service. We finally did an "end task" on that one and were able to bring everything back up. It worked fine for about 30 minutes until we started seeing timeouts and 17883's again. This time, probably because we didn't reboot all the way, we saw a bunch of 844 events mixed in with the 17883's. Our entire tech team here is scratching heads... some ideas we're kicking around: MS Cumulative Update hit around the same time as when we first had a problem. Since then, we've rolled it back. Maybe it didn't rollback all the way. The situation looks and feels like an unhandled "stack overflow" (no relation) in that it starts small and compounds over time. Problem with this is that there isn't significant CPU usage. At any rate, we're not ruling SQL 2005 bug out at all. Maybe we added one too many import processes and have reached our limit on this box. (hard to believe). Looking at SQLDUMP0151.log at the time of one of the crashes. There are some "login failures" and then there are two stack dumps. 1st a normal stack dump, 2nd for a scheduler dump. ASP.NET web application can't find an assembly

I deployed an ASP.NET web application last night and I when I woke up this morning it was very slow and would occasionally just throw a 'Service Unavailable' error. I checked the Event Viewer and it was filled up with these errors: I'm puzzled as it was working perfectly when I deployed it (MonoTorrent is required to retrieve the number of seeders/leechers for a certain torrent off the tracker - this was working fine), but it's no longer working and whenever code that uses MonoTorrent gets involved, the worker process just crashes. MonoTorrent.dll is in the /bin/ directory.

Pinnacle Studio 14 Importer crashes on Windows 7 x64

Pinnacle Studio 14 Importer crashes on Windows 7 x64, thus I'm unable to import videos from my camcorder. I've Googled around and it seems to be a problem with x64 support in the program, but there is no info if it can somehow be remedied with Compatibility settings, XP mode. Further Googling got me this link, and none of the tips in site it links help. I've got no idea what ObjectDoct Plus 2 is (no a program or service installed by that name) which he claims causes the problem. Is that ObjectDoct critical to Pinnacle Studio and how to get rid of it (or any other advice how to make Studio 14 work on x64). UPDATE: 1) XP mode doesn't help as it doesn't handle Firewire, which is how my Canon HV20 must be connected to transfer HDV from tape. 2) I don't have that ObjectDock installed. 3) I don't wanna re-buy PS15 just to get this solved as PS14 should be able to do it.

Primary domain controller has crashed, secondary does not log in

Hi everybody, I had a primary domain controller on machine A and a secondary one on machine B in my AD domain. Due to some hardware/software problems, I decided to migrate the role of primary domain controller to machine B. Unfortunately, machine A has totally crashed and does not boot. Now I can not even log in to machine B (which itself was a controller in the domain). I need to log into machine B then choose it as the primary controller. I already have synced DNS and AD info. when machine A was alive. Anyone can provide an idea?

Makecert.exe hangs

I was following the steps in Scott Hanselman's blog post describing how to create a certificate authority and code signing certificate for PowerShell scripts. Initially, I created the certificate authority and a personal certifcate and used it to sign a powershell script successfully. All went as described in the blog post. The problem starts (as most do) when I did something that was (probably) stupid, although it seemed reasonable at the time. I wanted to start over and repeat the process again with a clean slate, so from the mmc certificates snap-in console, I deleted the personal certificate and the certificate authority I created previously. After that any time I try to use makecert, (just as I did the first time around), makecert either hangs or faults (which prompts to end or debug). Did I hose something up by deleting via the certificates snap-in? It didn't complain or warn me that it could be potentially hazardous. Is this just coincidence and something else entirely could be hosed? Get details / solve issue with a kernel panic?

I have a Lenovo T430 running Linux Mint 13 (MATE): joseph:~$ uname -a Linux joseph-T430-LM 3.2.0-23-generic #36-Ubuntu SMP Tue Apr 10 20:39:51 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux I installed Mint immediately after getting the laptop about two weeks ago, and have noticed that about once a day, the computer will completely freeze up- I can't use Ctrl+Alt+Backspace to restart X, I can't use Ctrl+Alt+F1 to get a text only terminal, can't move mouse, can't type, and if any music was playing it just gets stuck in about a 1-second loop. There is a Windows partition, but I haven't had any issues in Windows. I couldn't find a common thread between the freezes, they were seemingly random (sometimes right after I clicked the mouse, sometimes not; sometimes with Pandora/flash being used, sometimes not, etc). I assume they're kernel panics since it completely locks up, but the laptop doesn't have a capslock or scroll lock LED. It is on a dock and I do have a USB keyboard, but the scroll lock/capslock lights do not flash when it happens (not sure if this is indicating its not a kernel panic, or if the kernel panic just wouldn't illuminate the LEDs on a usb keyboard attached to a laptop dock). This was annoying but not terrible. However, I've found a way to reproduce it. I have a particular CSV file that when I open up in LibreOffice Calc and scroll around, the same thing happens- complete lock up. I really need to use this file, so I'd like to fix the issue, but at the least it's given me a test case to work with. So, having a case where I can cause this issue, what can I do to better find out what's going on? I've looked in /var/log/syslog but haven't found anything seemingly useful. Any thoughts?

powerpoint make computer shut down on dell optiplex 760

At my office we upgraded group of computers to windows 7 + office 2010, few of us have problem that when we work on powerpoint - once in a while the computer suddenly shut down (with out any message). Some of us - has no such problems. We checked and fount that the people who experience problems - use Dell Optiplex 760 PC, and everyone that have no problems use other models. We also found out that the processors of the 760's are not the same - some are Intel E7400 and one is Intel E8400, so I suspect that maybe the mother board is the problem Does any one no this problem? Does any one have an idea about it? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, Yael

Compaq R4000 laptop randomly locking up

I have a Compaq R4000 laptop with 2GB of RAM, running Ubuntu Linux 9.10. It is randomly locking up on me, approximately once every two days. I have a second partition with Windows XP Home installed, and I have had the system lock up in XP as well, meaning I believe this is a hardware issue. I have run two passes of Memtest86+ with no errors. The system has a fan that has died, so I initially suspected overheating. However the system just locked up on me while I was in the middle of typing a script to warn me / shut down if the temperature was too high. When the lockup happened the temperature was 88°F, so I am now starting to believe that may not be the issue. When the system locks up, I cannot SSH in nor ping it. Nothing shows in syslog when I reboot. I have configured it to send syslog messages to a local server as well and no messages appear on that server when the lockup happens. I am open to any and all advice!

Tomcat dying silently on regular basis

I can start up the service and it will run for a few days or just minutes before dying again. Is there somewhere else i could look for output? Could the kernel start killing threads due to a lack of ressources and by that bring the VM down?

Outlook express 6 crashes after "synchonizing account"

[EDIT: Revised OE version to match reality] I use Outlook Express (OE) 6.00.3790.3959 to read newsgroups. I regularly scan through about 100 newsgroups. When I select a newsgroup, and then select "synchronize account", OE goes through the newsgroups visibly updating the unread message count. It gets apparantly to the end, and then comes back to check for Watched Conversations, of which I typically have a few scattered across the newsgroups. It invariably crashes with some kind of access fault. A dialog box pops up saying "Want to debug with "; I invariable say No, and the process goes away. I restart OE, select the newsgroup, and skip "Synchronize Account"; I am able to read news and everything seems just fine. This behavior has occurred since I set it up several months ago. Is the newsgroups database screwed up? Can I run something like CHKDSK or Outlooks PST repair to fix things up? Any suggestions as to what to do? The system is Windows XP 64 system installed in January 2008. I accept Windows Updates and install them on a regular basis. I use Outlook (not OE) for regular email an it behaves perfectly normally.

Where are my Vista documents?

Hi, on my compputer here at work, the motherboard on one machine decided to fry over the weekend, all of my saved work is on the harddrive here, it has Vista Business as it's OS and my documents were in My Documents. I have since moved the HDD over to a new computer and am trying to locate these files, as I can't work without them and it's not a case of doing it again, this is over three months work. There were three user accounts, mine, my bosses and a guest accont. Where are these My Documents? How can I get them? Thanks for any help you can provide :)

2 new HP Pavilion notebooks with 7 Home Premium pre-loaded with Norton. My first act was to use the Norton Removal Tool and load ZoneAlarm free and AVG Free. Virtual Box state not saving upon restart/reset/shutdown - reverting to an earlier state

Every time I restart/shut down my VM in VirtualBox (image is Ubuntu 10.02), whenever I start it back up, it reverts to the state it was in after I installed Guest Additions. This is extremely frustrating as every time I make progress on a project, whenever it restarts (mostly from crashing), I have to redo mostly everything. Is this a known problem with Guest Additions or with Virtual Box in general, and if so is there some solution?

Windows 7 - Runs in safe mode, crashes in "normal" mode

A couple of days ago I came back from a meeting to find my laptop had locked up. Power lights still on but the screen was blank (by which I mean black, though still "backlit" so not dead). Didn't respond to anything. I rebooted and it powered up fine and I got to the login screen. I logged in and it seemed to be going fine for about 30 seconds (gmail notifier and pidgin popped up) then the same thing happened - black screen. If I boot into Safe Mode it's all fine, no problems. I've tried removing everything from the startup folders (All users and my login), everything from the Run section of the registry (Local Machine and my login) and I've disabled every service which doesn't run in Safe Mode (assuming anything running in safe mode is OK) but the problem still exists. I've scanned the memory for errors (all fine). Any thoughts on what else I could try?

Computer is totally crashed

my computer kept restarting on its own at random times varying from 1 minutes, to 20 minutes(then goind in a constant restart loop every ~10 seconds). I had to turn it off and wait minutes or hours before attempting to restarting to go further in the boot process. Now, it just does not turn on. I posted this before: Computer crashes every 2 to 10 minutes but I did not have the time to check the temperature. I don't want to pay to get it checked up, but I want to know what is wrong. Is the processor fried? Thank you

How can I find out why my Apache webserver crashes? Sorry about my first post. Here is what I am doing: I am running xampp on windows xp. I was working on this tutorial and when i got to page 13 of the pdf version it crashed. I cant see anything weird in my error.log nor in my access log. When i go to my localhost on my machine it straight away crashes. Any Idea's? AWStats on Plesk consumes all of CPU and crashes server - how do you disable plesk.

Hello, I have Plesk 9.0.1 running on a Red Hat server. Every week or so at about 4:10am the server locks up. At this time the server CPU usage shhots from 4% to 90% at the same time as a mass of awstats.pl processes start (I can't see how many as my datat only shows the top 30 processes, but all of these are awstats.pl). I turned off awstats through the Plesk control panel for all but 5 domains but I still get 90% CPU usage and at least 30 instances of awstats.pl happening at 4:10am as usual. Does anyone know why this may be? Does anyone know how to disable awstats (I have stats covered using piwik)? Thanks
