  Was ist ADF? ADF steht für Oracle Application Develoment Framework. • Patterns & Practices: Composite Services CTP2 is Public

  Finally the last CTP and pre-release version for the Composite Services is out. There were quite a lot of changes since CTP1. We added many new samples and many enhancements to the repository (DB) which is now called Inventory in sync with SOA Patterns. Here is a brief list of the main changes according to the included documentations.   Changes and additions in this release This CTP release contains reusable source code and samples to illustrate implementation for the following patterns and scenarios: Repair and Resubmit – this pattern is implemented in ESB Toolkit 2.0 as part of Exception Management Framework (EMF). This code drop provides code sample how to implement this pattern for Windows AppFabric workflow service, using Exceptions Web Service and workflow activities to create fault message, which will be created in EMF database.  Analytic Tracing – this code drop contains reusable code and samples for implementing ETW tracing: event collector service and database that store collected events. This capability may be used for scenarios that need flexibility on how collected events are decoded and processed via extensibility points you can configure and implement:  plugins and event decoders with leveraging ETW tracing capabilities provided by the event collector service.   Inventory Centralization – this code drop contains service catalog database, web services and samples to show how to implement Metadata Centralization, Schema Centralization and Policy Centralization patterns.  Service Virtualization – we included sample for implementing this pattern using WCF routing service( which is part of .NET framework) and service metadata centralization capabilities to define routing service metadata in service catalog. • How to read a CLOB column in Oracle using OleDb ?

  Hi, I have created a table on an Oracle 10g database with this structure : create table myTable ( id number(32,0) primary key, myData clob ) I can insert rows in the table without any problem, but when I try to read data from the table using OleDb connection, I get an exception. Here is the code I use : using (OleDbConnection dbConnection = new OleDbConnection("ConnectionString")) { dbConnection.Open(); OleDbCommand dbCommand = dbConnection.CreateCommand(); dbCommand.CommandText = "SELECT * FROM myTable WHERE id=?"; dbCommand.Parameters.AddWithValue("ID", id); OleDbDataReader dbReader = dbCommand.ExecuteReader(); } The exception details seems to point on an unsupported data type : System.Data.OleDb.OleDbException: Unspecified error Oracle error occurred, but error message could not be retrieved from Oracle. Data type is not supported. Does anyone know how I can read this data using the OleDb connection ? PS : The driver used in this case is the Microsoft one.

• Changing the connection factory JNDI dynamically in Ftp Adapter

  Consider a usecase where you need to send the same file over to five different ftp servers. The first thought that might come to mind is to create five FtpAdapter references one for each connection-factory location. However, this is not the most optimal approach and this is exactly where "Dynamic Partner Links" come into play in 11g.    If you're running the adapter in managed mode, it would require you to configure the connection factory JNDI in the appserver console for the FtpAdapter. In the sample below, I have mapped the connection-factory JNDI location "eis/Ftp/FtpAdapter" with the ftp server running on localhost.           After you've configured the connection factory on your appserver, you will need to refer to the connection-factory JNDI in the jca artifact of your SCA process. In the example below, I've instructed the FTPOut reference to use the ftp server corresponding to "eis/Ftp/FtpAdapter".     The good news is that you can change this connection-factory location dynamically using jca header properties in both BPEL as well as Mediator service engines. In order to do so, the business scenario involving BPEL or Mediator would be required to use a reserved jca header property "jca.jndi" as shown below.     Similarly, for mediator, the mplan would look as shown below.       Things to remember while using dynamic partner links: 1) The connection factories must be pre-configured on the SOA server. In our BPEL example above, both "eis/Ftp/FtpAdater1" and "eis/Ftp/FtpAdater2" must be configured in the weblogic deployment descriptor for the FtpAdapter prior to deploying the scenario. 2) Dynamic Partner Links are applicable to outbound invocations only.

• (Oracle Performance) Will a query based on a view limit the view using the where clause?

  In Oracle (10g), when I use a View (not Materialized View), does Oracle take into account the where clause when it executes the view? Let's say I have: MY_VIEW = SELECT * FROM PERSON P, ORDERS O WHERE P.P_ID = O.P_ID And I then execute the following: SELECT * FROM MY_VIEW WHERE MY_VIEW.P_ID = '1234' When this executes, does oracle first execute the query for the view and THEN filter it based on my where clause (where MY_VIEW.P_ID = '1234') or does it do this filtering as part of the execution of the view? If it does not do the latter, and P_ID had an index, would I also lose out on the indexing capability since Oracle would be executing my query against the view which doesn't have the index rather than the base table which has the index?

• McAfee Virus Scan and Oracle RAC

  Hi, We're experiencing a strange problem with Oracle RAC and McAfee anti-virus. As part of the installation of the Oracle RAC we disable anti virus as directed. We have had our RAC running fine, but when we came to re-enable the AV and reboot we got the BSOD. Abnormal Program Termination (BugCheck, STOP: 0x00000035 (0x8E984678, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000 NO_MORE_IRP_STACK_LOCATIONS Following the standard process of raising this problem with Microsoft they identify the problem and also a fix. Microsoft talk about too many file filter drivers being present and pushing the DFS upper limit beyond the default size. Upping this value, as per msdn, has no impact. We're able to recover from this BSOD by disabling AV. We don't have the problem if we run the AV service manually whilst the system is up. However, if we make the service automatic we fail to boot.   What is the order of evaluation in the following query: UPDATE tbl SET q = q + 1, p = q; That is, will "tbl"."p" be set to q or q + 1? Is order of evaluation here governed by SQL standard? Thanks. UPDATE After considering Migs' answer, I ran some tests on all DBs I could find. While I don't know what the standard says, implementations vary. • How to resolve this very heavy query that slows down the application?

  Hi, We have a web application running in a production enviroment and at some point the client complained about how slow the application got. When we checked what was going on with the application and the database we discover this "precious" query that was being executed by several users at the same time (thus inflicting a extremely high load on the database server): SELECT NULL AS table_cat, o.owner AS table_schem, o.object_name AS table_name, o.object_type AS table_type, NULL AS remarks FROM all_objects o WHERE o.owner LIKE :1 ESCAPE :"SYS_B_0" AND o.object_name LIKE :2 ESCAPE :"SYS_B_1" AND o.object_type IN(:"SYS_B_2", :"SYS_B_3") ORDER BY table_type, table_schem, table_name Our application does not execute this query, I believe it is an Hibernate internal query. I've found little information on why Hibernate does this extremely heavy query, so any help is very much appreciated!   Hi, I have a stored procedure in an Oracle 10g database, in my java code, i call it with: CallableStatement cs = bdr.prepareCall("Begin ADMBAS01.pck_basilea_reportes.cargar_reporte(?,?,?,?,?); END;", ResultSet.TYPE_SCROLL_INSENSITIVE, ResultSet.CONCUR_READ_ONLY); cs.setInt(1, this.reportNumber); cs.registerOutParameter(2, OracleTypes.CURSOR); cs.registerOutParameter(3, OracleTypes.INTEGER); cs.registerOutParameter(4, OracleTypes.VARCHAR); cs.setDate(5, new java.sql.Date(this.fecha1.getTime())); cs.execute(); ResultSet rs = (ResultSet)cs.getObject(2); i do obtain an ResultSet with correct records in it, but when i try an "scroll_insensitive - only" operation, (like absolute(1) ). I keep getting an SQLException stating that it doesn't work on FORWARD only resultSet. So how can i obtain this ResultSet with scroll_insensitive capabilites? Thanks in Advance.

• How to ...set up new Java environment - largely interfaces...

  Hi, Looks like I need to setup a new Java environment for some interfaces we need to build. Say our system is X and we need to interfaces to systems A, B and C. Then we will be writing interfaces X-A, X-B, X-C. Our system has a bus within it, so the publishing on our side will be to the bus and the interface processes will be taking from the bus and mapping to the destination system. Its for a vendor based system - so most of the core code we can't touch. Currently thinking we will have several processes, one per interface we need to do. The question is how to structure things. Several of the APIs we need to work with are Java based. We could go EJB, but prefer to keep it simple, one process per interface, so that we can restart them individually. Similarly SOA seems overkill, although I am probably mixing my thoughts about implementations of it compared to the concepts behind it... Currently thinking that something Spring based is the way to go. In true, "leverage a new tech if possible"-style, I am thinking maybe we can shoe horn some jruby into this, perhaps to make the APIs more readable, perhaps event-machine-like and to make the interface code more business-friendly, perhaps even storing the mapping code in the DB, as ruby snippets that get mixed in... but thats an aside... So, any comments/thoughts on the Spring approach - anything more up-to-date/relevant these days. EDIT: Looking a JRuby further, I am tempted to write it fully in JRuby... in which case do we need any frameworks at all, perhaps some gems to make things clearer... Thanks in advance, Chris

• VS 2010 Server Explorer Database Showing No Tables

  I'm working on a .Net application that needs to read from an Oracle 10g database behind Siebel. In VS 2010 Server Explorer, I've created a connection using the OracleClient type connector with a reference to the Oracle TNS service name as the "server name." The "Test Connection" button shows that the connection is successful. However, in the Server Explorer, when I go to expand the Tables, no tables are shown. I know for a fact that there are 3000+ tables in the database (thanks Siebel). Anyone know what's happening here? I'd like to create an Entity Framework 4.0 Entity Data Model... Thanks for the help!
