• Updating a table with the max date of another table

  In Oracle 10g, I need to update Table A with data from Table B. Table A has LOCATION, TRANDATE, and STATUS. Table B has LOCATION, STATUSDATE, and STATUS I need to update the STATUS column in Table A with the STATUS column from Table B where the STATUSDATE is the max date upto and including the TRANDATE for that LOCATION (basically, I'm getting the status of the location at the time of a particular transaction). I have a PL/SQL procedure that will do this but I KNOW there must be a way to get it to work using an analytic, and I've been banging my head too long. Thanks!

• Hosted EBS 11i Integration Repository Temporarily Offline

  Most developers know that they can integrate their external applications with the E-Business Suite via the business service interfaces and SOA service endpoints documented in the E-Business Suite's Integration Repository.  This is shipped as part of EBS 12.  Until recently, it was provided as a hosted environment on the Oracle.com domain for EBS 11i. Unfortunately, we identified some standards-related issues in the process of switching from the existing server that hosts the EBS 11i environment to a new one, notably in the area of accessibility. Some of those issues will require coding changes to resolve.  Given our focus on EBS 12.2 right now, it may take some time to prioritize this relative to our other existing commitments. In the meantime, we are required to suspend access to the EBS 11i Integration Repository.  I don't have a firm schedule for getting this back online yet, but you're welcome to monitor or subscribe to this blog. • Couldn't run loadjava on user schema to load dbwsclientws.jar dbwsclientdb102.jar

  I am trying to load oracle webservice client jars to my schema. I did set the PATH to inlcude: /u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/bin When I try to run loadjava as "loadjava -u myschema/myscehmapwd -r -v -f -genmissing dbwsclientws.jar dbwsclientdb102.jar" I am getting error: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: oracle/aurora/server/tools/loadjava/LoadJavaMain. Does it mean that jvm is not setup on the box? How can I check if the jvm is enabled or not? I am running it on Oracle 10g in UNIX environment. Any help with the issue is greatly appreciated.

• Invoking a function call in a string in an Oracle Procedure

  Hello, I writing an application using Oracle 10g. I am currently facing this problem. I take in "filename" as parameter of type varchar2. A sample value that filename may contain is: 'TEST || to_char(sysdate, 'DDD')'. In the procedure, I want to get the value of this file name as in TEST147. When i write: select filename into ffilename from dual; I get the value ffilename = TEST || to_char(sysdate, 'DDD') whick makes sense. But how can I get around this issue and invoke the function in the string value? Help appreciated. Thanks.

• Oracle, slow performance when using sub select

  I have a view that is very slow if you fetch all rows. But if I select a subset (providing an ID in the where clause) the performance is very good. I cannot hardcode the ID so I create a sub select to get the ID from another table. The sub select only returns one ID. Now the performance is very slow and it seems like Oracle is evaluating the whole view before using the where clause. Can I somehow help Oracle so SQL 2 and 3 have the same performance? I’m using Oracle 10g 1 slow select * from ci.my_slow_view 2 fast select * from ci.my_slow_view where id = 1; 3 slow select * from ci.my_slow_view where id in (select id from active_ids)

  After many months of deliberating I have finally gotten around to starting this blog! The reason for doing this is the large number of half finished articles lying around on my hard disk, unpublished and unloved. These articles have been of huge benefit to me, and have been written in an attempt to consolidate my own thinking, in order to help me structure my thoughts and ideas as I have tried to digest new ideas and understand abstract theories. It is my hope that by tidying up these articles and publishing them here that I can continue this learning process by getting feedback on the ideas from within the developer community. i have worked with .NET for 8 years now, and have worked with ASP.NET, SQL Server, Windows programming as well as general network administration. Since 2004 my focus has been on integration, web services, and more often than not Biztalk Server. The last two years have seen me focus on SOA and WCF, and the Managed Services Engine, so this is probably where the main focus of the blog will to start with, but there are so many fun things to play with these days that i have no idea where it will end up.....   Barry

• pl/sql does not work with %rowtype

  I want to do a simple PL/SQL program on the Oracle 10g internet environment. The program is: DECLARE stud_rec students%ROWTYPE; last_name VARCHAR2:='Clinton'; BEGIN SELECT * INTO stud_rec FROM students WHERE student_id=100; END; I have a table called students with data inside of it. The issue is that when I want to run this in the SQL command window I got this message: ORA-06550: line 3, column 11: PLS-00215: String length constraints must be in range (1 .. 32767) I have checked the syntax and I cannot find the error. • The Increasing Focus on Architecture

  If you follow my updates on Twitter or on the OTN ArchBeat page on Facebook you have probably noticed that I'm a regular reader of Joe McKendrick's SOA blog on ZDNet. Usually I'm content to simply share a link on my social networks when I find one of McKendrick's posts interesting. But with a recent post, In the cloud era, let's start calling IT what it is: 'Innovation Team', McKendrick hit on a point that warrants more than a quick link: "IT is no longer just a department full of people who code, build and maintain systems. IT is the business partner that plans and strategizes what types of technology solutions the business needs to move forward." Of course, what McKendrick is describing is an increased focus on architecture. Assuming that McKendrick's assessment is correct — and I do — that expanding focus, from coding, building, and maintaining systems to planning and strategizing technology solutions that serve the business, isn't limited to the organizational level. The individual roles within the IT organization will also have to shift to a more broadly architectural mindset. McKendrick's post references Dr. Irving Wladawsky-Berger's assessment of cloud computing as a critical "third model" of computing to emerge in the 50-year history of Information Technology. As computing itself evolves, the underlying roles that make computing possible must evolve accordingly. That evolution will be defined by an increased focus on architecture.

• Dynamic Monitoring Service (DMS) Configuration Dumping and CPU Utilization

  There was recently a report of CPU spikes on a system that were occuring at precise 3 hour intervals. Research revealed that the spikes were the result of the Dynamic Monitoring Service generating a metrics dump and writing it under the server 'logs' folder for every WLS server in the domain. This blog provides some information on what this is for and how to control it. The Dynamic Monitoring Service is a facility in FMw (JRF to be more precise) that collects runtime data on the components deployed to WebLogic. Each component is responsible for how much or how little they use the service and SOA collects a fair amount of information. To view what is collected on any running server you can use the following URL, http://host:port/dms/Spy and login with admin credentials. DMS is essentially always running and collecting this information in the runtime and to protect against loss of this data it also runs automatic backups, by default at the 3 hour interval mentioned above. Most of the management options for DMS are exposed through WLST but these settings are not so we must open the dms_config.xml file which can be found in DOMAIN_HOME/config/fmwconfig/servers/<server_name>/dms_config.xml. The contents are fairly short and at the bottom you will find the following entry: <dumpConfiguration>     <dump intervalSeconds="10800" maxSizeMBytes="75" enabled="true"/> </dumpConfiguration> The interval of 10800 seconds corresponds to the 3 hours and the maximum size is 75MB. The file is written as an archive to DOMAIN_HOME/servers/<server_name>/logs/metrics. This archive contains the dump in XML format. You can disable the dumps all together by simply setting the 'enabled' value to 'false' or of course you could modify the other parameters to suit your needs. Disabling the dumps will NOT impact DMS collections or display at runtime. It will only eliminate these periodic backups.

If insted of WHERE fl.nome = nome; I write WHERE fl.nome = 'folder1'; -- it works. I think im not using the parameter in the right way. How can I use it?

• Unable to return large result set ORA-22814

  Hello All I am encountering an issue when I am trying to load a large result set using a range query in Oracle 10g. When I try a smaller range (1 to 100), it works but when I try a larger range(1 and 1000), I get the following error "ORA-22814: attribute or element value is larger than specified in type" error. I have a basic UDT (PostComments_Type) and I have tried using both a VArray and a Table type of PostComments_Type but that hasn't made a difference.   Hi, I have a product database and I am displaying trying to display them as clean URLs, below is example product names: PAUL MITCHELL FOAMING POMADE (150ml) American Crew Classic Gents Pomade 85g Tigi Catwalk Texturizing Pomade 50ml What I need to do is display like below in the URL structrue: www.example.com/products/paul-mitchell-foaming-gel(150ml) The problem I have is I want to do the following: Remove anything with braquets(and the braquets) Remove any numbers next to g or ml e.g. 400ml, 10g etc... I have been banging my head trying different string replaces but cant get it right, I would really appreciate some help. Cheers

  In Oracle 10g, I have this SQL: select dog.id as dogId from CANINES dog order by dog.codename asc which returns: id -- 204 203 206 923 I want to extend this query to determine the oracle rownum of a dog.id in this resultset. I have tried select rownum from (select dog.id as dogId from CANINES dog order by dog.codename asc) where dog.id=206 But this does not work out very well (it returns 1 no matter which dog.id I match on).   I have this query (that runs on Oracle 10g database): SELECT ge.*, ge.concept AS glossarypivot FROM s_glossary_entries ge WHERE (ge.glossaryid = '161' OR ge.sourceglossaryid = '161') AND (ge.approved != 0 OR ge.userid = 361) AND concept = '?' ORDER BY ge.concept The query must display all words that begin with the arabic letter "?" but unfortunately, it returns empty result .. However, if I run the same query on the same database which runs on MYSQL, it works well and displays the correct result .. What should I do in order to get this query working the right way on oracle 10 database? P.S. the oracle database character set is : "AL32UTF8" thank you so much in advance

• [SQL] Getting the sum of several columns from two tables

  I want to get the sum of several columns from 2 different tables (these tables share the same structure). If I only consider one table, I would write this kind of query: SELECT MONTH_REF, SUM(amount1), SUM(amount2) FROM T_FOO WHERE seller = XXX GROUP BY MONTH_REF; However, I would like to also work with the data from the table T_BAR, and then have a select query that return the following columns: MONTH_REF SUM(T_FOO.amount1) + SUM(T_BAR.amount1) SUM(T_FOO.amount2) + SUM(T_BAR.amount2) everything grouped by the value of MONTH_REF. Note that a record for a given MONTH_REF can be found in one table but not in the other table. In this case, I would like to get the sum of T_FOO.amount1 + 0 (or 0 + T_BAR.amount1). How can I write my SQL query to get this information? For information, my database is Oracle 10g.

• Selecting data effectively sql

  Hi, I have a very large table with over 1000 records and 200 columns. When I try to retreive records matching some criteria in the WHERE clause using SELECT statement it takes a lot of time. But most of the time I just want to select a single record that matches the criteria in the WHERE clause rather than all the records. I guess there should be a way to select just a single record and exit which would minimize the retrieval time. I tried ROWNUM=1 in the WHERE clause but it didn't really work cause I guess the engine still checks all the records even after finding the first record matching the WHERE criteria. Is there a way to optimize in case if I want to select just a few records? Thanks in advance. Edit: I am using oracle 10g.

The situation is as follows: --> Start Process (Begin Transaction) --> Begin Transaction for step 1 --> Step 1 --> Commit transaction for step 1 --> Begin transaction for step 2 --> Step 2 --> Rollback transaction for step 2 --> etc ... --> End Process (Commit or Rollback ALL commited steps) Can that be done with transaction scopes? Could anyone post an example? In addition I'd need the prcoess to work for SQL Server 2005 AND Oracle 10g databases... will transaction scopes work with both database engines?
