• Is Code Completion speed improved in Delphi 2010?

  I am working with Delphi 2009 Pro and just tried to find out why code completion is so slow in my setup. Whenever code completion is invoked, the IDE locks up for up to 30s, which really interrupts any workflow. When working with BDS 2006, code completion was incredibly fast compared to Delphi 2009. After reading this post it seems to be normal for Delphi 2009, but just turning off the automatic code completion is not anything I want to do. My question is: If I switch to Delphi 2010, will I have the same slow speed for code completion or was it improved to a point to be usable?

• Javascript Intellisense not working on Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate (Windows 7 x64)

  Hi guys, I've just got the new Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate and Javascript Intellisense is not working on .aspx/.ascx files inside blocks. It does work on external .js files. After VS2010 setup, it asked me if I wanted to import the settings from previous VS version (I have VS2008 SP1 installed), I say yes. I've tried resetting the settings like explained here. Didn't work. I've also installed Resharper 5. I thought it might be conflicting, so I tried suspending it like it says here. Didn't work. Anyone experiencing the same issue? I really want javascript/jQuery intellisense =(

  What should I worry about if I move to Delphi 2007 to 2010? I've checked this article and there was a lot of interesting stuff but not precisely for this jump that I need. To clarify my question and situation: I have all 3td party components' code. I will need the unicode, but not this year. • Need to debug LINQ simple queries in Visual Studio 2010

  I often get in a position when I need to know why my LINQ doesnt work as intended... I use object collections and extensions. I dont want spend more than couple of minutes on it. LINQ supposed to make developer's life easier not harder. I hoped VS 2010 will have it fixed but I now use RC and it still doesnt let me type LINQ and check what is going on... Says as before "Expression cannot contain lambda expressions"... Is there some add-on for Visual Studio so I can quickly and effectively run ad-hoc queries and find out what is going on and where I am wrong?

• Visual Studio 2010 does not discover new unit tests

  I am writing some unit tests in Visual Studio 2010. I can run all tests by using "Run all Tests in Current Context". However, if I write a new unit test, it does not get picked up by the environment - in other words, I am not able to find it in Test List Editor, by running all tests, or anywhere else. If I unload the project and then reload it; the new test is available to run. When I am adding a unit test, I simply add a new method to an already existing TestClass and decorating it with [TestMethod] attribute - nothing fancy. What might be causing this behaviour, and how do I make it work ?

• Minifying Javascript on Visual Studio 2010 on release mode

  I have a ASP.NET MVC 2 project on Visual Studio 2010. I want to be able to use my plain javascript files in debug mode so I can understand what's going on when debugging, but I want to used a minified/compressed version when using release mode. I was planning to create some extenders to include the js files in each page, something like: <%: Html.IncludeJS("/Content/foo.js") % In that extender method I would determine whether I am on debug or release mode and pick the appropiate JS file. The disadvantage here is that I would end up manually compressing/minifying the JS every time I change something. Is there an automated way to compress/minify and include the JS file when compiling in release mode?

• Debug .Net Framework's source code only shows disassembly in Visual Studio 2010

  Hi! I'm trying to debug .Net Framework's source code using Visual Studio 2010 Professional. I followed the steps described in Raj Kaimal's post but I must be doing something wrong since the only code I'm getting to see is the disassembly code: As you can see in the image, the Go to Source Code and the Load Symbols options are disabled. Nevertheless, symbols are downloaded from Microsoft's server since I can see them inside the local cache directory. The code I'm debugging goes as follow: var wr = WebRequest.Create("http://www.google.com"); Console.WriteLine("Web request created"); var req = wr.GetRequestStream(); Console.Read(); When I hit F11 to step into the first line of code, a window pops us looking for the "WebRequst.cs" file inside "f:\dd\ndp\fx\src\Net\System\Net\WebRequest.cs" which does not exists on my machine. What am I missing? Thanks a lot for your help.

  What is the significance of the ProjectTypeGuids tag in a visual studio project?? When I created a WPF application, i am seeing two guids in here. {60dc8134-eba5-43b8-bcc9-bb4bc16c2548};{FAE04EC0-301F-11D3-BF4B-00C04F79EFBC} Does these represent WPF and Windows type of applications? If I create my own project type (.myproj) that has .xaml and .cs files, what should I fill in this ProjectTypeGuids tags? Should I also need to fill the ProjectType tag? It would also be better if someone differentiate the ProjectType and ProjectTypeGuids tags. P.S. I am using Visual Studio 2010 RC currently Thanks

  I have recently upgraded to Visual Studio 2010. I have kept database projects separate to application projects. The database project was converted from and old DPR project and added a whole lot of additional folder. I deleted those, but now I suspect I need to recreate the project as these new projects work very differently. Now that I have need to update scripts, it seems I can even paste new SQL files into the project so am a bit stuck. Are there any tutorials / walkthrough that show the basics on starting and creating a database project? Or even better a video? Also if there are any tips and tricks or comments on this, I will be happy to hear them?

  Hi, It seems that there is a really annoying issue in Class Diagram designer in VS (my version is 2010 Ultimate, but the issue is also observed in VS 2008). When I'm trying to create a class diagram for particular simple class from DLL I'm getting the following error: "Some of the selected type(s) cannot be added to the class diagram. Check the code for errors and ensure that all required assemblies ... blah-blah-blah" My code doesn't contain any error. I have multiple class and interface definitions in one separate .cs file, but these classes are really simple - even no calls to unmanaged/interop. Any solution for this?

  I have a custom control, a groupbox, which reacts on key events on a assigned key. It is possible to remove this groupbox, as well as adding more dynamically. Havnt been any trouble in VS 2008 so far. Two days ago i installed VS 2010. And i started to get multiple event fireing, and removing a groupbox did not remove the specific key events attached to it. Where did it go wrong? I use -= on the events present in the gruopbox code to remove them before removing the groupbox.

  I have a third-party project type in Visual Studio which for some reason only supports the .NET Platform configuration for the build, for all other (standard C#) projects in the solution I only have AnyCPU. Unfortunately, ever since upgrading to VS 2010 it produces following error when built : Error 39 The OutputPath property is not set for project 'ReferencedBusinessProject.csproj'. Please check to make sure that you have specified a valid combination of Configuration and Platform for this project. Configuration='Debug' Platform='.NET'. This error may also appear if some other project is trying to follow a project-to-project reference to this project, this project has been unloaded or is not included in the solution, and the referencing project does not build using the same or an equivalent Configuration or Platform. • Glew in VS 2010: unresolved external symbol __imp__glewInit

  I am learning OpenGL by following the redbook. When I come to around page 90, I need use glGenBuffers(); Then I need install "glew". By following the steps in www.cs.uiowa.edu/~cwyman/classes/common/howto/winGLUT.html I download glew.zip from glew.sourceforge.net/ and unpack the files. I put glew.h in C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.0A\Include and put glew32.lib in C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.0A\Lib and put glew32.dll in C:\Windows\System32. After that, I build my project in VS 2010 and in Linker-input, I add dependencies glew32.lib. But when I build it, I have error unresolved external symbol _imp_glewInit I spend whole day to search solutions, but did not find one. Hope someone can help me with this.

  Hello SO, I want to be able to develop code using Visual Studio 2010. I just got VS2010 and I'm not able to get the languages I want on it. The main reason that I'm asking this is that I'm trying to migrate to ONE IDE that does it all for me. Thus far eclipse has been doing a good job, but I've been informed that VS2010 is better and I'm trying to get into the groove of that standard So my question is two-fold. I am not able to find a complete list of languages supported by VS2010. What are these languages? How can I get VS2010 support for: a. Python/IronPython b. C/C++/C#/XNA c. Java My Googling has given me no promising/definitive results. I'd really appreciate any help.

• Powershell call web service on new email event (Exchange 2010)

  I have Exchange 2010 and I need to run a process using web services against every new email to come in to a mailbox. The process will basically add the email to an internal task list. Can I use Powershell for this? Having never used Powershell before I don't really have a clue on it's capabilities.   Hello, I am interested in building a Silverlight application that uses RIA Services. I am using this video (http://live.visitmix.com/MIX10/Sessions/CL08) as an example. In that video, the presenter uses the "data sources" tab to populate the view. However, I cannot figure out how to add a data source from within Visual Studio 2010. I have a database on my local machine. This database is the sample AdventureWorks database. When I select my Silverlight application, there is a UserRegistrationContext in the data sources window. However, I cannot figure out how to add a new one that connects to my AdventureWorks database. Can somebody tell me how to do this? Thank you!

  I have a sharepoint 2010 web application with 2 different zones, default zone with windows login (for search crawl), internet with Claims (FBA) for users to login. I have custom webparts that uses using (SPSite mySite = new SPSite(SPContext.Current.Site.ID)) using (SPWeb web = mySite.RootWeb) { string url = web.Url I use this url to include to emails etc... Problem is: when user connects to FBA (extended zone), and goes to the webpart,string url in my code returns the url of the default zone(windows auth) where user should not be touching. I have different host headers for these zones, any help would be very appreciated. Update: fixed it with using (SPSite newsite =new SPSite(SPContext.Current.Site.ID,SPContext.Current.Site.Zone)) using (SPWeb web = newsite.RootWeb) { //do your implementation here }

• Issue with Visual C++ 2010 (Express) External Tools command

  I posted this on SuperUser...but I was hoping the pros here at SO might have a good idea about how to fix this as well.... Normally we develop in VS 2005 Pro, but I wanted to give VS 2010 a spin. We have custom build tools based off of GNU make tools that are called when creating an executable. This is the error that I see whenever I call my external tool: ...\gnu\make.exe): * couldn't commit memory for cygwin heap, Win32 error 487 The caveat is that it still works perfectly fine in VS2005, as well as being called straight from the command line. Also, my external tool is setup exactly the same as in VS 2005. Is there some setting somewhere that could cause this error to be thrown?

• Script.PostDeployment.sql not executing in CI build VS 2010

  I have a database project in VS 2010 (SQL 2008). The local Deploy Solution action works and executes all of the SQL in the Script.PostDeployment.sql file. When I check changes in, the Build Definition for the continuous integration server executes. The database is deployed into the CI environment, but the PostDeployment script doesn't get executed. I wasn't able to find anything specific to this particular scenario. I also expect I'll need to provide additional information unless this is a trivial problem that I missed somewhere. Additional Information: The build is executing vsdbcmd.exe to deploy. The deployment manifest references the PostDeployment.sql file and it's present in the path with the rest of the files.   what is the right way to setup VisualStuio 2010 for working with *.cl files? I have added *.cl under Tool/Text editor/File extensions and copied usertype.dat into the common7/ide folder, but VS underlines keywords like float4 or cross. Is it necessary to add some key in registry or can somebody propose a tutorial? Thanks in advance.   I just did a clean install on Windows 7 x64 Professional with the final release of Visual Studio 2010 Premium. In order to duplicate what I'm experiencing do the following in: Create a new ASP.NET MVC 2 Web Application Right click the project and select Properties On the Web tab, select "Use Local IIS Web Server" Click on Create Virtual Directory Save all Unload the project Edit the project file Change MvcBuildViews to true Save all Reload project Right click the project and select Publish Choose the file system publish method Enter a target location Choose Delete all existing files Select Publish Right click the project Select Publish Each time I do the above I get the following errror: "It is an error to use a section registered as allowDefinition='MachineToApplication' beyond application level..." The error originates from obj\debug\package\packagetmp\web.config, relative to the project directory. I can repeat this all day long with any MVC 2 project I've built. In order to fix this problem, I need to set MvcBuildViews to false in the project file. That's not really an option. This wasn't a problem in Visual Studio 2008 and it seems to be an issue with the way the Publish command stages files beneath the project directory. Can anyone else duplicate this error? Is this a bug or by design? Is there a fix, workaround, etc...? Thanks.
