• Cisco 7206 error trying to copy running-config (Bad file number)

  I have a cisco 7206 that terminates a bunch of pppoa sessions for dsl users. Today I noticed that if I tried to "show run" nothing happened. I mean that it doesn't show anything and just sends me right back to the command prompt. I decided I should probably try and back up the config and that is where I'm stuck. Any time I try to copy the running-config to tftp or to pcmcia card that I know is not full I get the following error: %Error opening system:/running-config (Bad file number) I get this error when I try to do anything with the running config. I've been googling around, but I haven't found any thing else that talks about this error. I've seen people say to erase the nvram and then try to "copy run start", but I don't want to erase the nvram until I can pull off a copy of the running-config. I would try to reboot it, but the startup-config that is on the nvram looks to be woefully out of date (good job me!). Any ideas what might be wrong? or how I can get the running config off the router?

• should i and how do i backup my database for a webapp that is hosted on amazon ec2 server?

  I set up an amazon ec2 instance using ubuntu server edition. I install LAMP stack on it. I did up a php web app running on mysql. I have not officially launched, but I need to know this before launching. Should I backup my database data? If so, how should I do it as cost effective as possible? Previously for another web app, i wrote a perl or bash script (cannot remember) that will be executed by cron on a daily basis. The script will then backup the database into a single .sql file and send as email attachment to my gmail account. That web app was on shared hosting hence, I was quite sure i needed to do backup of my database. My files are on git repo so I am not worried about that. Please advise. I am totally unfamiliar with AWS. Only know as much as setting up an account. That is all. Thank you.

• Big and reaaaally strange problem with a web server (host InMotion Hosting)

  Hi. I have a terrible problem that I have tried to solve since three days ago: I browse my own web site and after a while I cannot access the web site. AT ALL! I can only see a 501 error message: "Method Not Implemented. GET to / not supported. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request." Once I get that error the site is totally and permanently inaccessible in that browser!! Reboot, browser restarts, clear cache, clear all history and cookies, etc., are not working. I have reproduced it in 4 different computers. Three computers are in one city, the 4th is in another city. Two different ISP's also. One computer is Linux, the others are on Windows (XP and 2000). Browsers are FF 3 to FF3.5 and IE 8. The error is ALMOST reproducible on demand (for me at least). It appears when I browse the forum under certain circumstances. I don't know which are these circumstances, but if I browse it long enough (10 sec to 5 minutes) it eventually appears. Just to make it clear, once the error appears (while browsing the forum) then the whole web site become inaccessible, not only the forum! My host is not willing to help because they say they cannot reproduce the error. I sent screenoshots but they don't care. NEWS Reseting browser's settings from the 'Tools-Clear private data' din't worked. However! When I have cleared the same settings (more exaclty) cookies from the special menu that appears when you right click website's icon, it worked. So it was something related to a cookie BUT it manifests in all browsers (FF, IE, Opera). So it cannot be a browser related problem.

• Designing a persistent asynchronous TCP protocol

  I have got a collection of web sites that need to send time-sensitive messages to host machines all over my metro area, each on its own generally dynamic IP. Until now, I have been doing this the way of the script kiddie: Each host machine runs an (s)FTP server, or an HTTP(s) server, and correspondingly has a certain port opened up by its gateway. Each host machine runs a program that watches a certain folder and automatically opens or prints or exec()s when a new file of a given extension shows up. Dynamic IP addresses are accommodated using a dynamic DNS service. Each web site does cURL or fsockopen or whatever and communicates directly with its recipient as-needed. This approach has been suprisingly reliable, however obvious issues have come up and the situation needs to be addressed. As stated, these messages are time-sensitive and failures need to be detected within minutes of submission by end-users. What I'm doing is building a messaging protocol. It will run on a machine and connection in my control. As far as the service is concerned, there is no distinction between web site and host machine -- there is only one device sending a message to another device. So that's where I'm at right now. I've got a skeleton server and a skeleton client. They can negotiate high-quality authentication and encryption. The (TCP) connection is persistent and asynchronous, and can handle delimited (i.e., read until \r\n or whatever) as well as length-prefixed (i.e., read exactly n bytes) messages. Unless somebody gives me a better idea, I think I'll handle messages as byte arrays. So I'm looking for suggestions on how to model the protocol itself -- at the application level. I'll mostly be transferring XML and DLM type files, as well as control messages for things like "handshake" and "is so-and-so online?" and so forth. Is there anything really stupid in my train of thought? Or anything I should read about before I get started? Stuff like that -- please and thanks.

• Hosting options for data-enabled web application

  I am independently developing an asp.net business application with a MySQL database. I currently have a Windows web hosting account which includes MySQL and MS SQL as installed supported options. I am not yet finally committed to using MySQL and I want to keep my options open to evaluate MS SQL and possibly other options such as PostGreSQL later when more of the business logic is in place - my data access layer will handle the database connectivity. The web hosting setup I have now is fine for development purposes, but if in future I want to use, say, PostGreSQL Server, and a level of usage of, say, 10,000 hits per day concentrated in business hours, I'm assuming I'll need a dedicated server. But in that case, should I just install PostGreSQL on the dedicated server, or is best practice to have a separate database server - perhaps locked down so that it can only be accessed through the web server? And supposing it was only 2000 hits a day - how would that change things? I'd appreciate it if anyone could point me in the direction of a useful guide to these sorts of issues. Naturally if I start paying for separate servers, I would like to know exactly why I'm doing it and what the performance issues and thresholds are.

• Migrating to web application with AjaxControlToolkit

  Hi All, We are currently migrating our ASP.NET website to a web application in Visual Studio 2008. Most of the process has been fairly straight forward, but I have hit one block that is driving me a bit nuts. We are using the AjaxControlToolkit for some functionality, specifically an AutoControlExtender. When this is run locally through VS's development server the extender (dropdown) does not render after the service returns the resultset. However if I deploy the migrated solution to our UAT server the extender functions correctly. I have ensured the Ajax Control Toolkit is properly installed locally on my dev machine (and the dll available in the bin directory), and using debugging have ensured the service is called correctly and runs through without error (which it does). The web application was taken from a server running IIS7. Can anyone confirm if Visual Studio 2008 development server requires a different configuration to IIS 7 (as I believe IIS 6 requires a different configuration to IIS 7), and if there is a resource that provides more info? My own searches have turned up very little in this area. On the other hand, if I am looking in the wrong area any other tips would be appreciated. Thanks Chris

  By default TFS 2008 Web Access has the limit of 100 record when you open any query in report mode. Even if you tried to export the query to excel or PDF you will only get first 100 record exported. To overcome this issue, you have to reconfigure this count in the web.config file Navigate to web access files C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Team System Web Access\Wiwa Open web.config modify maxWorkitemsInReportList count to whatever count you need. • Getting WCF Bindings and Behaviors from any config source

  The need of loading WCF bindings or behaviors from different sources such as files in a disk or databases is a common requirement when dealing with configuration either on the client side or the service side. The traditional way to accomplish this in WCF is loading everything from the standard configuration section (serviceModel section) or creating all the bindings and behaviors by hand in code. However, there is a solution in the middle that becomes handy when more flexibility is needed. This solution involves getting the configuration from any place, and use that configuration to automatically configure any existing binding or behavior instance created with code.  In order to configure a binding instance (System.ServiceModel.Channels.Binding) that you later inject in any endpoint on the client channel or the service host, you first need to get a binding configuration section from any configuration file (you can generate a temp file on the fly if you are using any other source for storing the configuration).  private BindingsSection GetBindingsSection(string path) { System.Configuration.Configuration config = System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.OpenMappedExeConfiguration( new System.Configuration.ExeConfigurationFileMap() { ExeConfigFilename = path }, System.Configuration.ConfigurationUserLevel.None); var serviceModel = ServiceModelSectionGroup.GetSectionGroup(config); return serviceModel.Bindings; }   The BindingsSection contains a list of all the configured bindings in the serviceModel configuration section, so you can iterate through all the configured binding that get the one you need (You don’t need to have a complete serviceModel section, a section with the bindings only works).  public Binding ResolveBinding(string name) { BindingsSection section = GetBindingsSection(path); foreach (var bindingCollection in section.BindingCollections) { if (bindingCollection.ConfiguredBindings.Count > 0 && bindingCollection.ConfiguredBindings[0].Name == name) { var bindingElement = bindingCollection.ConfiguredBindings[0]; var binding = (Binding)Activator.CreateInstance(bindingCollection.BindingType); binding.Name = bindingElement.Name; bindingElement.ApplyConfiguration(binding); return binding; } } return null; }   The code above does just that, and also instantiates and configures the Binding object (System.ServiceModel.Channels.Binding) you are looking for. • web.config, configSource, and "The 'xxx' element is not declared" warning.

  I have broken down the horribly unwieldy web.config file into individual files for some of the sections (e.g. connectionStrings, authentication, pages etc.) using the configSource attribute. This is working file, but the individual xml files that hold the section 'snippets' cause warnings in VS. For example, a file named roleManager.config is used for the role manager section, and looks like this: <roleManager enabled="false"> </rolemanager> However I get a blue squiggle under the roleManager element in VS, and the following warning: The 'roleManager' element is not declared I guess this is something to do with valid xml and schemas etc. Is there an easy way to fix this? Something I can add to the individual files? Thanks P.S. I have heard that it is bad practice to break the web.config file out like this. But don't really understand why - can anyone illuminate me?

Am I correct in saying that using a GPL'ed web application framework such as Composite C1 would NOT obligate a company to share the source code we write against said framework? That is the purpose of the AGPL, am I correct? Does this also apply to Javascript frameworks like KendoUI? The GPL would require any changes that we make to the framework be made available to others if we were to offer it for download. In other words, merely loading a web sites content into my browser is not "conveying" or "distributing" that software. I have been arguing that we should avoid GPL web frameworks and now after researching I am pretty sure I am wrong but wanted to get other opinions? Seth

• Lightweight .NET web development?

  Fellow stack overflowers, I'm currently working on a project that has a sizable amount of both client and web code. The client code is written in C# and the web piece is written in PHP. Maintaining consistency between the two worlds is becoming cumbersome, and I want consolidate the web code to .Net. The issue is that I hate web development in ASP.Net Web Forms. I want something as raw as PHP, just using C# instead. I've read a little about ASP.Net MVC, but it looks like it abstracts too much of the request logic for my liking. Does anyone know of a lightweight way to allow C# + .Net to handle web requests? Should I be looking more closely at MVC? Thanks in advance, -- Breck

• Converting web.config from IIS6 to IIS7 format

  I'm a bit stuck, kinda been lumbered with a website developed over a year ago. The company that designed it and the company that own it dont now speak so I have been lumbered with trying to get it to work. Bought the web space and have loaded it on to one of our sub domains while I get it working. Problem is that the Hosting provider is running ISS7 and the web.config was designed in IIS6 so am getting an error500 cause the tags are wrong. Could anyone give me some pointers on how to migrate the current web.config file over to IIS7.

• C# wpf helix scale based mesh parenting using Transform3DGroup

  I am using https://helixtoolkit.codeplex.com/ as a 3D framework. I want to move black mesh relative to the green mesh as shown in the attached image below. I want to make green mesh parent to the black mesh as the change in scale of the green mesh also will result in motion of the black mesh. It could be partial parenting or may be more. I need 3D rotation and 3D transition + transition along green mesh's length axis for the black mesh relative to the green mesh itself. Suppose a variable green_mesh_scale causing scale for the green mesh along its length axis. The black mesh will use that variable in order to move along green mesh's length axis. How to go about it. I've done as follows: GeometryModel3D GreenMesh, BlackMesh; ... double green_mesh_scale = e.NewValue; Transform3DGroup forGreen = new Transform3DGroup(); Transform3DGroup forBlack = new Transform3DGroup(); forGreen.Children.Add(new ScaleTransform3D(new Vector3D(1, green_mesh_scale , 1))); // ... transforms for rotation n transition GreenMesh.Transform = forGreen ; forBlack = forGreen; forBlack.Children.Add(new TranslateTransform3D(new Vector3D(0, green_mesh_scale, 0))); BlackMesh.Transform = forBlack; The problem with this is the scale transform will also be applied to the black mesh. I think i just need to avoid the scale part. I tried keeping all the transforms but scale, on another Transform3DGroup variable but that also not behaving as expected. Can MatrixTransform3D be used here some how? Also please suggest if this question can be posted somewhere else in stackexchange.

• Junior software developer - How to understand web applications in depth?

  I am currently a junior developer in web applications and specifically in ASP.NET MVC technology. My problem is that the C# senior developer in the company has no experience with this technology and I try to learn without any guidance. I went through all tutorials (e.g music store), codeplex projects and also read Pro ASP.NET MVC 4. However, most of the examples are about CRUD and e-commerce applications. What I don't understand is how dependency injection fits in web applications (I have realized that is not only used for facilitating unit testing) or when I should use a custom model binder or how to model the business logic when there is already a database schema in place. I read the forum quite often and it would very helpful if some experienced developer could give me an insight about how to proceed. Do I need to read some books to understand the overall idea behind web applications? And what kind of application should I start building myself - I don't think it would be useful to create similar examples with the tutorials.

• Do I need to store a generic rotation point/radius for rotating around a point other than the origin for object transforms?

  I'm having trouble implementing a non-origin point rotation. I have a class Transform that stores each component separately in three 3D vectors for position, scale, and rotation. This is fine for local rotations based on the center of the object. The issue is how do I determine/concatenate non-origin rotations in addition to origin rotations. Normally this would be achieved as a Transform-Rotate-Transform for the center rotation followed by a Transform-Rotate-Transform for the non-origin point. The problem is because I am storing the individual components, the final Transform matrix is not calculated until needed by using the individual components to fill an appropriate Matrix. (See GetLocalTransform()) Do I need to store an additional rotation (and radius) for world rotations as well or is there a method of implementation that works while only using the single rotation value? • java - call web service operation - wrong return type

  i have a simple web service with one method that returns List<org.company.data.mp> i've created a simple web service client and specified a web service with wsdl. in netbeans i try to call a web service operation: right click, insert code, ... and i pick my web service operation. the code gets inserted but the method's return type is not List<org.company.data.mp> but it is List<org.company.server.mp>! i don't get it.. in the package "server" there is no class called mp! i check the implementation class of my web service - it says the return type is ...data.mp not ...server.mp

• C# WCF client configuration for X509 secured web service over https

  Hi guys I been pulling my hair out for the past few days trying to connect to a web service using .Net 3.5 and WCF (have also tried using WSE 3.0) without much luck. The web service is hosted by a 3rd party and we can access via https. They also make use of X509 certificates for security, to sign the message. I've been given some basic info and am able to connect and test the service using SOAP UI 3.5 without any problems, so we know that this is not the issue. Just trying to get it done in code! I've added the X509 certificate into the certificate store using the mmc snap-in, and using tracing and logging i can see that the message is being signed, just unable to see which part i have got wrong. Been going round and round a bit, and I am sure it is very simple once the cofig is set :( I'm sure I've missed loads out, let me know if seeing the SOAP UI generated envelope and the currect WCF generated envelope will help. many thanks. • Do I need to know servlets and JSP to learn spring or hibernate or any other java web frameworks?

  I've been asking a lot of people where to start learning java web development, I already know core java (Threading,Generics,Collections, a little experience with (JDBC)) but I do not know JSPs and servlets. I did my fair share of development with several web based applications using PHP for server-side and HTML,CSS,Javascript,HTML5 for client side. Most people that I asked told me to jump right ahead to Hibernate while some told me that I do not need to learn servlets and jsps and I should immediately study the Spring framework. Is this true? do I not need to learn servlets and JSPs to learn hibernate or Spring? All of their answers confused me and now I am completely lost what to learn or study. I feel that if I skipped learning JSP and servlets I would missed a lot of important concepts that will surely help me in the future. So the question, do I need to have foundation/know servlets and JSP to learn spring or hibernate or any other java web frameworks.?

• Extract derived 3D scaling from a 3D Sprite to set to a 2D billboard

  I am trying to get the derived position and scaling of a 3D Sprite and set them to a 2D Sprite. I have managed to do the first part like this: var p:Point = sprite3d.local3DToGlobal(new Vector3D(0,0,0)); billboard.x = p.x; billboard.y = p.y; But I can't get the scaling part correctly. I am trying this: var mat:Matrix3D = sprite3d.transform.getRelativeMatrix3D(stage); // get derived matrix(?) var scaleV:Vector3D = mat.decompose()[2]; // get scaling vector from derived matrix var scale:Number = scaleV.length; billboard.scaleX = scale; billboard.scaleY = scale; ...but the result is apparently wrong. PS. One might ask what I am trying to achieve. I am trying to create "billboard" 3D sprites, i.e. sprites which are affected by all 3D transformations except rotations, thus they always face the "camera".

  I'm working on a radiosity processor in DirectX 9. The process requires that the camera be placed at the center of a mesh face and a 'screenshot' be taken facing 5 different directions...forward...up...down...left...right... ...The problem is that when the mesh face is facing up( look vector: 0, 1, 0 )...a view matrix cannot be determined using standard trigonometry functions: Matrix4 LookAt( Vector3 eye, Vector3 target, Vector3 up ) { // The "look-at" vector. • Rotate/Translate object in local space

  I am just trying to create a movementcontroller class for game entities. These class should transform the entity affected by the mouse and keyboard input. I am able to calculate the changed rotation and the new globalPosition. Then I multiply: newGlobalMatrix = changedRotationMatrix * oldGlobalMatrix; newGlobalMatrix = MatrixSetPosition(newPosition); The problem is that the object rotates around the global axis and not around the local axis. I use XNAMath for the matrix calculation.

• How to test the render speed of my solution in a web browser?

  Ok, I need to test the speed of my solution in a web browser, but I have some problems, there are 2 versions of the web solution, the original one that is on server A and the "fixed" version that is on server B. I have VS2010 Ultimate, so I can make a web and load test on solution B, but I can't load the A solution on my IDE. I was trying to use fiddle2 and jmeter, but they only gave me the times of the request and response of the browsers with the server, I also want the time it takes to the browser to render the whole page. Maybe I'm misusing some of this tools... I don't know if this could be usefull but: Solution A is on VB 6.0 Solution B is on VB.Net Thanks in advance!
