  • Windows 7: System date and time resets to 2007

    My desktop computer has been upgraded to Windows 7 and ever since whenever I start it up, it resets the date and time to 2007. I tried changing the battery on the motherboard thinking that it would solve, but its still the same. I didn't face this trouble when Windows XP was installed on this computer. Any ideas how to fix this?

  • How do I login to SQL Server without having to use "Run as Administrator" when starting Management S

    When I start Management Studio, unless I use the "Run as Administrator" selection, I cannot login to my local SQL Server. Is this normal? I am a normal developer and don't believe I have a need for high security on my local machine. I'm running SQL Server 2008, Windows 7. The error I get is: Cannot connect to (local) Additional Information Login failed for user 'MYCOMPUTER\MyName'. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 18456)

    I'm trying to parse a single string and get multiple chunks of data out from the same string with the same regex conditions. I'm parsing a single HTML doc that is static (For an undisclosed reason, I can't use an HTML parser to do the job.) I have an expression that looks like: $string =~ /\<img\ssrc\="(.*)"/; and I want to get the value of $1. However, in the one string, there are many img tags like this, so I need something like an array returned (@1?) is this possible?

    Let's suppose you're an IT student with a basic knowledge of C++ and C#. Let's suppose that you want to design apps that: need to deliver some performance like archivers, cryptographic algorithms, codecs make use of some system calls have a gui and you want to learn an Api that will enable you to write apps like those described earlier and: is mainstream is future proof entitles you to find a decent job is easy enough - I mean easy like VCL, not easy like winapi So, making these assumptions, what Api will you choose? MFC, WPF, other? I really like VCL and QT, but they're not mainstream and I think few employers will want you to write apps in QT or Visual C++ Builder... Thanks for answers.

  • Executing a DTS package from Sql Server 2005

    I am trying to run several DTS packages from a sql 2000 box. The DTS calls will originate from .net 2.0 - 3.5 code. I have been unable to find a good way to programmatically accomplish this. What I have read is running a sql job from a stored procedure that calls the DTS package. Does anyone has any experience with this or know of a good way to call the DTS? Note: For the forseeable future these packages will remain DTS. Eventually we will convert them to SSIS. Any insight or experience would be very helpful.

  • DynDNS updating IP address via Cisco ASA 5505

    I'm setting up an ASA 5505 where the ISP provides a dynamic IP address (rarely changes.) I would like to start using some of the services provided by DynDNS such as Custom DNS. I've come across some information regarding Cisco Routers and DynDNS, but nothing definitive on the ASA platform. My question is whether I can configure the ASA5505 to update the IP address rather than install the DynDNS Updater software on a machine running on the LAN? Thanks

    I'm trying to write a script to do the following: Open a terminal window which runs a long running command (Ideally) move the terminal window to the top left corner of the screen using xdotool Close the terminal window only if the long running command exited with a zero return code To put it in Windows terms, I'd like to have the Linux equivalent of start cmd /c long_running_cmd if long_running_cmd succeeds, and do the equivalent of start cmd /k long_running_cmd if it fails. What I have so far is a script which starts xterm with a given command, and then moves the window as desired: #!/bin/bash # open a new terminal window in the background with the long running command xterm -e ~/bin/launcher.sh ./long_running_cmd & # move the terminal window (requires window process to be in background) sleep 1 xdotool search --name launcher.sh windowmove 0 0 And ~/bin/launcher.sh is intended to run whatever is passed as a command line argument to it: #!/bin/bash # execute command line arguments $@ But, I haven't been able to get the xterm window to close after long_running_cmd is done. I think something like xterm -e ~/bin/launcher.sh "./long_running_cmd && kill $PPID" & might be what I'm after, so that xterm is launched in the background and it runs ./long_running_cmd && kill $PPID. So the shell in the xterm window then runs the long running command and if it completes successfully, the parent process of the shell (i.e. the process owning the xterm window) is killed, thereby closing the xterm window. But, that doesn't work: nothing happens, so I suspect my quoting or escaping is incorrect, and I haven't been able to fix it. An alternate approach would be to get the PID of long_running_cmd, use wait to wait for it to finish, then kill the xterm window using kill $! (since $! refers to last task started in the background, which will be the xterm window). But I can't figure out a nice way to get the PID & exit value of long_running_cmd out of the shell running in the xterm window and into the shell which launched the xterm window (short of writing them to a file somewhere, which seems like it should be unnecessary?). What am I doing wrong, or is there an easier way to accomplish this?

  • Intermittently, IIS7 requests get stuck in WindowsAuthenticationModule

    We're running an IIS7 server hosting several dozen websites. Several of these websites are all part of the same legacy app we've developed. These sites all run the same code and run in the same app pool. Roughly once a month over the past few months, we've found that all requests for this app pool start hanging indefinitely. When this happens, we receive an alert and we recycle the app pool. After that, the sites start working again. This only ever affects this one app pool - never any others on the same server. A couple times, before recycling the pool, I've looked at the currently-executing requests in the worker process. They all show up as executing inside the WindowsAuthenticationModule. Which is strange, because the vast majority of the application does not require authentication. There is a small admin section which uses Windows auth... but all the other requests should be anonymous. Does anyone have any idea as to what might be causing this? There are several unusual things about the way these sites are set up. As I mentioned, they all run the same code - multiple sites point at the same physical directory. The only difference is the host header bindings. I'm not sure why there isn't just one site with all the host headers, but that's how it works. In several of these sites, the same physical directory is mapped at two levels - as the root of the site and again as an application within the site. So if a user goes to http://oursite.com/index.aspx, that maps to c:\files\oursite\index.aspx. If a user goes to http://oursite.com/foo/index.aspx, that also maps to c:\files\oursite\index.aspx. I think there is code which looks at the request URL and handles the two requests differently. This is strange because the same web.config ends up being interpreted as a site config file, and also as an application config file within the site. I don't know if this might be related to the authentication problem. If we can't find the cause, we're thinking of a few workarounds we could try: Move the admin section into a separate site, and give the client a new admin URL. Run that separate site in its own app pool. Then in the web.config shared by all the other sites, remove the WindowsAuthenticationModule. That way there should be no possibility of a hang within the WindowsAuthenticationModule. Try running all these sites in the classic pipeline instead of the integrated pipeline. They were working fine on our old IIS6 server... (If we get desperate) Set up a watchdog script which monitors the sites and auto-recycles the app pool when it detects that requests are getting stuck. What do you think?     I have been searching the web for some time for a solid FFmpeg wrapper for C#/.NET. But I have yet to come up with something useful. I have found the following three projects, but all of them apears to be dead in early alpha stage. FFmpeg.NET ffmpeg-sharp FFLIB.NET So my question is if anyone knows of a wrapper project that is more mature? I am not looking for a full transcoding engine with job queues and more. Just a simple wrapper so I do not have to make a command line call and then parse the console output, but can make method calls and use eventlisteners for progress. And please feel free to mention any active projects, even if they are stil in the early stages.

  • What setting can cause a monitor to flicker under X11?

    I've been dinking with the xorg.conf file on my system and now when I try to start X I get a flickering effect and no usable image. I think (and this is just a guess) that it's a settings out of bound error of some kind but I don't know what setting. I'm almost completely sure that the hardware is good given that everything is brand new.and works just fine in text mode. Any ideas?

  • Wordpress FORCE UPDATE of permalink settings

    I've been having issues on creating new wordpress blogs where I'm setting permalinks via script on theme activation. However, even though they appear to be correct when I check the permalink settings in WP, my new pages are throwing 404 errors. The only fix I've found is that I have to go back to permalink options and click "Save Changes", even though, according to the display, I've made no changes to need to save... I'm setting permalinks to /%postname%/ Here's how I'm doing it. if(get_option('permalink_structure')==""){update_option('permalink_structure', '/%postname%/');} That script gets run when my theme is activated. Any ideas why it only partially does the job?

  • Optimize php-fpm and varnish for a powerfull server

    My setup is: Intel® Core™ i7-2600 and RAM 16 GB DDR3 RAM varnish+nginx+php-fpm+apc for a not very heavy WordPress blog with W3 Total Cache and CDN My problem is that after 55 hits per second according to blitz.io varnish starts giving out timeouts. CPU usage at this time is hardly 1%. Free memory at all time remains 10GB+. I tried benchmarking php-fpm directly with result of 150hits/s without any timeouts. But after that the CPU usage goes 100% and it stops responding. Can you help me optimize it to handle more?   • Slow ASP.NET site using IIS6

    Hi, I have two servers, one virtual and one physical, running the exact same site on both machines. Both machines are running on ~ 2% CPU load and very much RAM available for usage. Somehow the site, with cache turned off ofcourse, loads in ~ 500ms on the virtual machine (which is a dev-server by the way) but almost 3 full seconds on the physical machine. They're both running Server 2003, IIS6 aswell as asp.net version 2.0 Any ideas where I can start troubleshoot this? Best Regards LP

  • How can I restore programs that were sent to the background (Ubuntu)

    I was fooling around with my dual display setup (turned on my second monitor is almost all) and a handful of programs that were running seem not to be available anymore. Thunderbird, Gvim, Tomboy ps shows them, but I can't see them. Can't cycle to them with alt-tab. They aren't just in some other window. I'm not even sure how to start figuring out where everything went. Ideas?

  • Replicating MySQL DB to development machine - bad idea?

    I am considering replicating a production MySQL database to my development machine so I've always got current data. The production database is externally hosted. My development machine is behind an unreliable internet connection. It is entirely possible that the development machine could be disconnected from the internet for extended periods of time (hours). Would there be any adverse effect on the production database by doing this? (I don't strictly need live data - but it would be nice, and good excuse to dabble with replication. If the consensus is that this is a bad idea, I'll set up a daily job to import the previous night's backup into my development database)

  • Spring bean's DESTROY-METHOD attribute [does not work for me]

    Can get work the attribute "destroy-method". First, even if I type non-existing method name into "destroy-method" attribute, Spring initialization completes fine (already strange!). Next, when a bean has a "prototype" scope, then I suppose it must be destroyed before the application is closed. That not happens, it is simply never called in my case. Though, after extracting this bean I can call this method explicitly and it does its job. Could you explain why this method is never called in my Spring 2.5 case? p.s. The method exists, it is public and has no arguments.

  • Whats wrong with this task queue setup?

    I've setup this task queue implementation on a site I host for a customer, it has a cron job which runs each morning at 2am "/admin/tasks/queue", this queues up emails to be sent out, "/admin/tasks/email", and uses cursors so as to do the queuing in small chunks. For some reason last night /admin/tasks/queue kept getting run by this code and so sent out my whole quota of emails :/.   • How to generate pdf files _with_ utf-8 multibyte characters using Zend Framework

    Hello, I've got a "little" problem with Zend Framework Zend_Pdf class. Multibyte characters are stripped from generated pdf files. E.g. when I write aabccdee it becomes abcd with lithuanian letters stripped. I'm not sure if it's particularly Zend_Pdf problem or php in general. Source text is encoded in utf-8, as well as the php source file which does the job. Thank you in advance for your help ;) P.S. I run Zend Framework v. 1.6 and I use FONT_TIMES_BOLD font. FONT_TIMES_ROMAN does work
