    I am trying to write some code that will allow me to dynamically load DLLs into my application, depending on an application setting. The idea is that the database to be accessed is set in the application settings and then this loads the appropriate DLL and assigns it to an instance of an interface for my application to access.   • Best way to integrate StyleCop with TFS CI

    I've been doing research on how to enable source analysis for the project I'm working on and plan to use StyleCop. The setup I have is a TFS Server for source control, using TFS Continuous Integration. I want to enable source analysis for CI builds and daily builds run on the build machine, and not only for those run on developers' machines. It basically modifies the csproj file for the purpose. The component returned a failure code when the pipeline engine called PrimeOutput(). The meaning of the failure code is defined by the component, but the error is fatal and the pipeline stopped executing. There may be error messages posted before this with more information about the failure.

  • TFS and shared projects in multiple solutions

    Our .NET team works on projects for our company that fall into distinct categories. Some are internal web apps, some are external (publicly facing) web apps, we also have internal Windows applications for our corporate office users, and Windows Forms apps for our retail locations (stores). Of course, because we hate code reuse, we have a ton of code that is shared among the different applications. Currently we're using SVN as our source control, and we've got our repository laid out like this: - = folder, | = Visual Studio Solution -SVN - Internet | Ourcompany.com | Oursecondcompany.com - Intranet | UniformOrdering website | MessageCenter website - Shared | ErrorLoggingModule | RegularExpressionGenerator | Anti-Xss | OrgChartModule etc... So.. The OurCompany.com solution in the Internet folder would have a website project, and it would also include the ErrorLoggingModule, RegularExpressionGenerator, and Anti-Xss projects from the shared directory. Similarly, our UniformOrdering website solution would have each of these projects included in the solution as well. We prefer to have a project reference to a .dll reference because, first of all, if we need to add or fix a function in the ErrorLoggingModule while working on the OurCompany.com website, it's right there. Also, this allows us to build each solution and see if changes to shared code break any other applications. This should work well on a build server as well if I'm correct. In SVN, there is no problem with this. SVN and Visual Studio aren't tied together in the way TFS's source control is. We never figured out how to work this type of structure in TFS when we were using it, because in TFS, the TFS project was always tied to a Visual Studio Solution. The Source Code repository was a child of the TFS Project, so if we wanted to do this, we had to duplicate the Shared code in each TFS project's source code repository. As my co-worker put it, this "breaks every known best practice about code reuse and simplicity". It was enough of a deal breaker for us that we switched to SVN. Now, however, we're faced with truly fixing our development processes, and the Application Lifecycle Management of TFS is pretty close to exactly what we want, and how we want to work. Our one sticking point is the shared code issue. We're evaluating other commercial and open source solutions, but since we're already paying for TFS with our MSDN Subscriptions, and TFS is pretty much exactly what we want, we'd REALLY like to find a way around this issue. Has anybody else faced this and come up with a solution? If you've seen an article or posting on this that you can share with me, that would help as well. As always, I'm open to answers like "You're looking at it all wrong, bonehead, HERE'S the way it SHOULD be done.

    Hi there, I am running a SSAS cube that stores facts of HTTP requests. The is a column "Time Taken" that stores the milliseconds a particular HTTP request took. Like... RequestID Time Taken -------------------------- 1 0 2 10 3 20 4 20 5 2000 I want to provide a report through Excel that shows the distribution of those timings by percentage of requests. A statement like "90% of all requests took less than 20millisecond". Analysis: 100% <2000 80% <20 60% <20 40% <10 20% <=0 I am pretty much lost what would be the right approach to design aggregations, calculations etc. to offer this analysis through Excel. Any ideas?     I have just installed the GDR RTM version of Visual Studio Team System Database Edition GDR RTM. It all seems to work wonderfully, but I seem to have to edit XML (Database.sqlpermissions) for specify SQL Permissions. Am I missing something? For that matter where is the schema diagram tool? I understand GDR exposes alot for extending the Database Edition components, so am I supposed to wait for third party extensions to provide the diagram tool and permissions designer?

    Hi In SQL Server 2008: I have one table, and I want to do something along the following lines: SELECT T1.stuff, T2.morestuff from ( SELECT code, date1, date2 from Table ) as T1 INNER JOIN ( SELECT code, date1, date2 from Table ) as T2 ON T1.code = T2.code and T1.date1 = T2.date2 The two subqueries are exactly identical. I have been trying to get my ReadProcessMemory() and WriteProcessMemory() functions to be working for so long and have tried almost every possibility but the right one. It launches the target program, returns its PID and handle just fine. But I always get a error code of 5 - ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED. When I run the read function(forget the write for now). I am launching this program as what I believe to be a CHILD process with PROCESS_ALL_ACCESS or CREATE_PRESERVE_CODE_AUTHZ_LEVEL. I have also tried PROCESS_ALL_ACCESS and PROCESS_VM_READ when I open the handle. I can also say that it is a valid memory location because I can find it on the running program with CheatEngine. As for VirtualQuery() I get an error code of 998 - ERROR_NOACCESS which further confirms my suspicion of it being some security/privilege problem. The only solution I found until now was to set $IPT -P INPUT ACCEPT and $IPT -I INPUT -i eth0 -j ACCEPT, but this configuration does not protect me of any attack, which is a great shame for a firewall. iptables, but SSH rules were not. This does not make any sense... Does somebody understand where my error comes from? EDIT #3 : After some more tests, I found out that commenting the SYN flood countermeasure removes the problem. I continue researches in this way but, meanwhile, if somebody sees my anti SYN flood rule error...

In this case, I've added a impersonation in the the code that runs asynchronously. I have no errors, but the issue I'm having is that the impersonation does not work when it is used in the async method. In code this looks something like this: instantiate a BGWorker, and add an event handler to the DoWork event: _bgWorker = new BackgroundWorker(); _bgWorker.DoWork += new DoWorkEventHandler(_bgWorker_DoWork); in the above handler, a impersonation is made before running some code. private void _bgWorker_DoWork(object sender, DoWorkEventArgs e) { MyImpersonation myImpersonation = new MyImpersonation(); myImpersonation.impersonateValidUser(user, domain, pass) //run some code... myImpersonation.undoImpersonation(); } the code is launched with BGWorker.RunWorkerAsync(); As I said before, no error is thrown, only that the code acts as if I did't run any impersonation, that is with it's default credentials. Moreover, the impersonation method returns true, so the impersonation took place at a certain level, but probably not on the current thread. This must happen because the async code runs on another thread, so there must be something that needs to be added to the MyImpersonation class. But what?? :) Thanks in advance, Lucian

    Suppose you're working on a project and the time/money budget does not allow 100% coverage of all code/paths. It then follows that some critical subset of your code needs to be tested. Clearly a 'gut-check' approach can be used to test the system, where intuition and manual analysis can produce some sort of test coverage that will be 'ok'. However, I'm presuming that there are best practices/approaches/processes that identify critical elements up to some threshold and let you focus your test elements on those blocks. For example, one popular process for identifying failures in manufacturing is Failure Mode and Effects Analysis. I'm looking for a process(es) to identify critical testing blocks in software.
